Mobile phones, an indispensable part of our lives, is basically used for communication beyond the bounds of geographic area along with varied applications.

Mobile phones, a small hand held electronic device and the part and parcel of our lives, have brought a great revolution in the telecommunications era. It made life easier through long distance communication facilities. Dr. Martin Cooper, an employee of Motorola Inc. first invented this useful and innovative device in 1973. Mobile phone development paved its way through two way radios used for communication purposes prior to the development of this technologically innovative gadget. From radiotelephones to the latest 4G, mobile phones have traversed a long journey with the advancement of technology.

In today’s world, mobile phones are equipped with various gizmo technology features such as text messaging, internet access, games, cameras, music players, bluetooth, radio and the list go endless with latest trends in mobile market. The advantages of mobile phones are manifold such as instant communication worldwide, entertainment through movies, games and music, a helpful friend in emergency situations, information access through internet, mobile banking and photography. This hand held device also has certain disadvantages including health problems due to electromagnetic radiations, suffering of children due to weaker immune system, legal issues due to privacy problems and the cause of accidents while driving.

The year 2010 saw enormous mobile subscriptions and crossed the mark of 4.5-5 billion users worldwide. With a worldwide population of around 6.8 billion, 3/4th of them are users of mobile technology. By the end of 2015, people accessing internet through smart phones will exceed desktop users. New mobile models are developed by various telecommunication companies with respect to latest technological trends and to compete with each other in the mobile market. All in all, mobile phones served the greatest boon to the telecommunication era.
