Agencies Up Warnings As UK Modelling Scams Gain Momentum

Leading modelling agencies from across the UK have increased the amount of warning information they publish in response to an increasing number of modelling scams.

London, England, 28th February 2011– As more and more reports are received of people being conned out of their money by people purporting to be representatives of modelling agencies the legitimate industry has decided to up their ante and publicise the most common scams and how to avoid them.

A representative from one of London’s leading agencies explains, ‘Although we have had warnings and advisories on our website for a significant amount of time now we have decided to make the warnings more prominent. The number of scams we hear about are becoming increasingly sophisticated and it appears that a growing number of unsuspecting people are falling victim to these con artists. The only way we can fight back at this time is by increasing people’s awareness of the warning signs to look out for. If we can provide people with the information in order to avoid these scams this will start to put the crooks out of business, no victims, no money, no scams.’

Although the legitimate modelling industry and their representatives are no way at fault for these increased occurrences of UK modelling scams they can be affected by the negative publicity surrounding these scams. A number of leading agencies are upping their game in the fight against the con men by publicising the most common scams, providing information on how to spot the warning signs as well as basic common sense tips and advice.

The representative goes onto say, ‘As an industry the only way we can put a dent in the profits of these criminals is to try our best to inform people. The more people that are informed the less people will fall victim to this kind of crime. If the number of victims these people snare slows to a trickle the less money they will make and ultimately make their dubious enterprises not worth the effort’.

Although obtaining money by deception is what these scam agencies/casting agents ultimately do the reason why they get away with it is because they are so convincing. As a rule they dress well, speak with authority and more often than not holding casting sessions/auditions at upmarket venues.

Our representative concludes by saying, ‘In scenarios such as modelling scams knowledge is everything, simply put ,if you possess the knowledge you won’t get snared and that is what we are trying to give people.’
