FED Publishing Releases New Book, “American Prisons: A Critical Primer on Culture and Conversion to Islam” by SpearIt

American Prisons: A Critical Primer on Culture and Conversion to Islam, by SpearIt, takes a sober look at our prison system, the 700,000 inmates released annually and their communities.

Houston, TX, USA — SpearIt’s American Prisons: A Critical Primer on Culture and Conversion to Islam is a critical exploration of prisons in contemporary America. Paying special attention to race and Islam, the work draws on a range of data and sources, including interviews and written correspondence with current and ex-prisoners, documentary research, and congressional hearings on topics that include criminal justice and religion, culture, conversion, radicalization, and reform.

“The overarching message of my anthology, American Prisons: A Critical Primer on Culture and Conversion to Islam, is that problems in prison are not isolated from society, and unlike the Las Vegas slogan, what happens in prison doesn’t stay in prison. Prisons are not neatly cornered off from society, but rather, are partners in toxic relationships with the communities to which ex-prisoners return.”

SpearIt is an Associate Professor of Law at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University. He has taught for the Prison University Project at California’s death-row facility, San Quentin State Prison, as well as taught Corrections Law at Saint Louis University School of Law, in addition to serving on the Advisory Board of the Prison Program–a program that offers courses to both inmates and staff. He is currently active in the American Bar Association’s Corrections Committee and its work to restore Pell Grant Funding for prisoners.

New Book Release – Fractured Idols, by Kevin Austin

Fractured Idols, by Kevin Austin, is a tale of Interior Designer Sebastian Cartwright as he emerges from the financial chaos of the Great Depression into a world still dominated by corporations.

London, UK (October 8, 2015) — Kevin Austin’s Fractured Idols is a snapshot of the lives of wealthy Metropolitans who inhabit London’s super-rich Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This is the world of Sebastian Cartwright, top International Interior Designer and friend of the great and the good. His larger-than-life chums include Magda, a glamorous Hungarian émigré, her lover Phillip, Viscount Brampton, scion of an Aristocratic English family and trusted confidant, Karim, a Moroccan Architect who commutes between Marrakesh and Amsterdam with his Dutch partner Christiaan.

But Sebastian Cartwright is angry. His career as an Interior Designer took a hit during the Credit Crunch in 2008 and has never recovered. He feels adrift in a world that has changed beyond his recognition; his whole being fractured. A classicist in style, his old-fashioned values have also suffered at the hands of what he feels to be a Media-led destruction of all he holds dear. His world-view, influenced by his innate Christianity, is affronted by the idolatry he sees around him.

Magda introduces him to Madeleine Armitage, an avaricious, antipodean corporate wife and Sebastian’s life is turned upside down. His deep antipathy towards her is put aside during a weekend house party in rural Southern Spain where a significant person from his past appears and he is forced to confront a panoply of emotions buried deep in his soul.

A timely and humorous look at the issues of Big: Government, Banks, Media, and Religion, Fractured Idols reinvents a well-worn idiom: “Hell hath no fury like a Homosexual scorned”.

Author Bio: Kevin Austin attended school and University in Perth, Western Australia before moving to London in 1987. Experience working in the City of London, Television Production, and as co-owner of a Boutique Hotel in Spain gave him the background for this, his first novel. He co-owns British Society Salon EQUUSHAIR with his partner Geoffrey and they live in Kensington with their Labrador Charlie.

Fractured Idols is the first of two parts. Goliath and the Kitten Factory will be published by First Edition in March 2016.

Genre – Politics, Government, Religion, Drama, Fiction

The ebook version of Fractured Idols ISBN 9781622879540, published by First Edition Design Publishing, is available on-line wherever ebooks are sold. The 154 page print book version, ISBN 9781622879533 is published by First Edition Design Publishing and distributed worldwide to online booksellers.

Christian Faith Challenged in Future World Without Religion

It’s the story of the classic human journey, one filled with great sacrifice and much pain. That’s how author Martin Gene Durst describes his new book, Templar, The Age of the Dark Prince.

Houston, TX (USA), February 01, 2013 — It’s the story of the classic human journey, one filled with great sacrifice and much pain. That’s how author Martin Gene Durst describes his new book, Templar, The Age of the Dark Prince.

Available through Halo Publishing International, Templar is the story of Marcus Stevens, a man in his early 20s living in a world without religion. “Stevens’ mother has been executed because of her faith and he experiences great sacrifice and enduring individual pain while making his classic human journey in a future world where religion has been outlawed,” Durst said. The character wrestles with his own faith as he becomes leader of the few Christians that remain and must fight against a Directorate questing for complete control of the Earth. “Human and spiritual conflictions are prevalent throughout the story,” Durst explained.

“I was inspired to write this book because of my love for Christ and because there is little to no Christian science fiction to entertain young adult readers who enjoy adventure stories,” the author said. “I love to read and I have a really good imagination.”

The Army Guard Reservist, who joined the Regular Army at age 18, now continues to serve his country full-time as an Operations Non-Commissioned Officer of a bridge engineer unit. He has authored two other non-fiction volumes including The Soldiers Creed: Hard Lessons of the U.S. Army for the Success of a Future America in 2011, and Army Recruiter Survival Guide in 2007.

Templar is the first in a series of fiction writing for Durst. “It’s a niche’ I’ve wanted to get into,” he said.

“This story will appeal to people who enjoy science fiction and adventure and likely will inspire Christian readers to examine their own faith,” said Halo International Publisher Lisa Umina.

Durst grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the second oldest of five children with a twin brother. He attended West Virginia University after his first Army enlistment and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He taught school for seven years in North Carolina before returning to full-time military employment.

Durst and his wife, Barbara, have three children, Ryan, 14, Emily, 7, and Ethan, 5. The family resides in Philippi, West Virginia, where they are members of the Living Water Church. The author enjoys long distance cycling, hiking, hunting, and playing music.

Church of Scientology Gala Benefits Local Charities

A total of £37,500 donated to three Sussex-based charities.

East Grinstead, UK, November 01, 2010 — On Sunday evening, October 17th, the annual Gala Charity Concert was staged at Saint Hill, home of L. Ron Hubbard and headquarters for the Church of Scientology UK. The charities chosen to benefit from this year’s concert were the East Grinstead Museum, the Mayor of Crowborough’s Charity, and the British Engineerium Trust.

Around 1,500 were in attendance, including Mayors, District Council Chairmen, Town Councillors, and community leaders from all over the South of England. In addition, guests flew in specially from all over Europe and as far away as the United States.

The evening’s entertainment covered a wide spectrum of music – from the legendary Kenny Ball accompanied by the number one swing jazz band The Jive Aces to the Caribbean’s premier female vocalist Michele Henderson; and from award-winning Gospel singer Jesse Stevenson and rapper Chill E.B., to the Italian Queen of Jazz Elena Roggero and drummer Woody Woodmansey (best known for his years with David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars). The Academy Award-nominated Hollywood actress Anne Archer hosted the evening and presented the official cheques on stage to the representatives of each of the local charities including the Mayor of East Grinstead Cllr Stephen Barnett and the Mayor of Crowborough Cllr Mrs Kay Moss.

Now in its 14th year, the Saint Hill Gala Charity Concert has supported numerous charities, such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, the RSPCA , the National Drug Prevention Alliance and the Bluebell Railway Trust. The concert follows the tradition that was started by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1960’s when he resided at Saint Hill Manor and supported many of the local charities.

The Gala Concert concluded a three-day jam-packed weekend of activities at the Church of Scientology with over 7,000 people from around the world. The weekend is an annual staging of conferences and seminars for parishioners and community leaders alike, encompassing the Church of Scientology’s social betterment programmes in the areas of human rights, drug education, common sense morals, and the volunteer ministry.
