Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History Opens Exhibit Oct. 5, Exploring Its 135-Year History

A new exhibit at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History will examine its own 135-year history when it opens Oct. 5, at the Pacific Grove institution.

Pacific Grove, CA, September 21, 2018 — A new exhibit at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History will examine its own 135-year history when it opens Oct. 5, at the Pacific Grove institution.

The exhibit, “135 Years of Natural History,” will have an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, in the Special Exhibits Gallery at the Museum.

This exhibit will explore the museum’s history from its beginnings in the Pacific Coast chapter of the Chautauqua Literary and Science Circle in 1879, through the several expansions and reorganizations of the 20th century and up to how the Museum is honoring its legacy through extensive outreach and education programs. The original Museum opened in 1883.

“This is a pretty exciting exhibit,” said Juan Govea, Director of Exhibits and Education. “The exhibit will take people from the 1880s until now, speaking to changes at the Museum, from building to expansion, through stories and by showing bits of our collections that coincide with their times. There’s a lot of variety and lots of areas where people can interact.”

Govea said the exhibit will feature items from the Museum’s extensive collections, models, art pieces, specimens, and vintage photographs. “It’s a journey from one era to the next in five major blocks,” he said.

When he was asked what he discovered about the Museum that surprised him, Govea said he was reminded of the prominent role women played and still play, in the history of the Museum. For example, of the original association, nine of the 12 members were women and Mary E. B. Norton was one of its first curators. Women continued to play a prominent role in the Museum’s progress over the year. The current executive director is also a woman, Jeanette Kihs.

History of the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History

The Chautauqua (shuh-TAH-kwuh) Literary and Scientific Circle established its Pacific Coast branch in Pacific Grove in 1879. A two-week Chautauqua assembly was held here every summer, featuring lessons, exhibits, lectures, picnics, and concerts. Over the years several members felt the need to have a storeroom and exhibition site to house collections of nature’s wonders and to make them available for study.

In 1883, a petition calling for a Museum building was signed by Professor H. B. Norton, Dr. J. H. Wyeth, Dr. C. L. Anderson, Miss Lucy M. Washburn, Miss Mary E. B. Norton, and Professor Josiah Keep. The petition was sent to F. S. Douty, secretary of the Pacific Improvement Company, a small wooden octagonal building on their land the Chautauqua Museum’s first home.

The original Chautauqua Museum in Pacific Grove was initiated at the second meetings of the Chautauqua Assembly in 1881, and the actual Museum was founded in 1883. The Museum was created to house collections of nature’s wonders and to make them available for study. In 1900 the Chautauqua Museum disbanded to form a more permanent organization as the Pacific Grove Museum Association. The Pacific Improvement Company donated the Museum’s current lot to the Association, and the Museum subsequently moved into a large building on its current site.

The Association maintained the Museum until 1916 when it was transferred to the City of Pacific Grove through a Charter election. The Museum remains city owned and is operated by a non-profit 501.c.3, The Museum Foundation of Pacific Grove. The Museum has been accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1972, the first such institution in Monterey County.

As Far back in History as the mid 1700’s certain Experimenters have known that there are certain things that can kill Microbes and that had value in stopping infections but were being blocked from the public

The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information.

Horton, AL, August 10, 2017 – The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information. You may have not heard of the Rife machine nor of the Lahkovsky MultiWave Oscillator, as well as many other devices because the medical profession and the FDA work hard to keep people from leaqrning about these devices, even to the point of destroying historically significant objects. There is also a continuous stream if lies and misinformation claiming that things such as colloidal silver do not work.

As far back as the 1750’s, the first experimenters discovered that even low levels of electricity could kill the newly discovered microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi and resultingly could stop many diseases. The medical industry was extremely against such use because it was not profitable to them. One of these early experimenters was John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. Over a period of time, he set up and operated 3 clinics in London that used mostly electricity combined with natural therapies to treat and heal the poor. The clinics were such a resounding success that the medical authorities tried extensively to shut them down. You can read more about this in The Electric Cure.

Since the time of John Wesley, there has been a stream of electric and electronic products that have been offered to help relieve pain and suffering, as well for fighting disease and illness in the human body. The FDA has stepped in at every turn to suppress the products in favor of expensive and profitable medicines. In the 1870’s a product called “The Medical Electric Battery” was introduced and was available up into the 1930’s when the FDA stepped in and shut them down. There were even more advanced products such as the Rife machine that has a long list of successes claimed by users. Not only has the FDA forced these products off of the market, they have suppressed the information about these and even destroyed the original products whenever there have been able to get away with it.

Another significantly important issue is the suppression of colloidal silver. Silver has been used for centuries to fight unknown causes of death, including microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi. Yet the current medical profession even goes so far as trying to tell people that it does not work and that it can turn you blue ( which is true if you take way too much of the wrong form ). There are many many thousands of users of colloidal silver, yet there are only perhaps 3 or 4 who have actually turned blue. A current improvement to the use of colloidal silver is a product called Nano Silver.

At issue is the current situation in the medical industry where many people are dying every day from infections, both, those aquired in the hospital and those which are established before going to the hospital. These infections are difficult to stop with antibiotics because antibiotics are slow in working and in some cases may even suppress the immune system and cause other problems such as liver failure and kidney failure. Yet from reported experiences, the use of LVPEF ( low voltage pulsed electric fields ) can actually destroy or incapacitate many microbes in minutes or within a few hours of usage. The off-label use of these products can possibly save the lives of your friends, family members, or even your own.

What can be done? First, contact your congerssman or congresswoman and make them aware that the FDA is using its power to suppress potentially life saving technology. There are thousands of signatures and comments at http://paradevices.com/petition_link.html where you can add yours. Lastly, contact the FDA and let them know that this technology needs to be made available for the medical industry to use as well as for private individuals to use on themselves. Currently, this technology is used to kill microbes in water such as in cooling towers and backyard ponds. Similar technology is use to kill microbes in juices and drinks as well as elsewhere in the food industry.

Why should people die just because the medical industry does not want to allow this type of prduct for the sake of their own profits. The right to live is a basic human right and no one should be denied access to this type of product when life is at risk but that is the very reason that the FDA uses to justify preventing public access to these products. Their rule is that if it can save lives, it must be subjected to the most strengent and expensive regulations and requirements.

Notice: These devices are currently sold only for the experimental use of killing microbes in water. Any other usage is considered to be off-label and such usage is at the discretion of the user. This is not a Medical device and is not represented as such. The information above is posted only to highlight the potential of such use and to create public awareness.

First Images Of WWII German Submarine Sunk 68 Years Ago In Brazil

The U-Boat was located by the Schurmann Family in July 2011. Almost one year after locating the submarine, the Schurmanns joined efforts with deep sea diving experts to collect images of the U-513. With specialized technology, using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) the expedition made a 135 meters dive to film and take pictures of the wreck, for the first time in history.

“After years of research, finally we watched this historical moment. We first saw a shadow then gradually the images became very clear, the submarine is almost intact and whole as if she was placed there to sleep” said Vilfredo Schurmann leader of the expedition.

“The ROV (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) did several dives and with every new image we celebrated this great feat” says David Schurmann, the film director.

It all began in 2001 aboard their sailing yacht “Aysso”, when the Schurmanns a well-known sailing and expedition family in Brazil, was told of the story of a German submarine, sunk in 1943 during WWII in the waters of Southern Brazil.

Vilfredo and Heloisa Schurmann where hooked on the mysterious story and started researching the facts in the National Archives in Washington – USA, Berlin – Germany and in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil.

They were granted a license from the Brazilian Navy, and obtained the support of the Santa Catarina Government and UNIVALI University and were sponsored by TOTVS, CPE (Coastal Planning & Engineering) and FUGRO BRAZIL to further the search.

A team of 35 professionals (all volunteers) which included divers, oceanographers, retired officers from the Brazilian and USA Navy & Air Force, archaeologists, historians, filmmakers and the last surviving member of the USA airplane responsible for the U-boat sinking aided on the search.

After 2 years and 18 expeditions at sea, operating Side Scanning Sonars and Magnetometer, on July 17th 2011 on board their adapted sailing yacht “Aysso”, the Schurmanns located the exact position of the sunken submarine.

On March 8, 2012, aboard two ships, the expedition led by Vilfredo Schurmann and a crew of 20, filmed for the first time in history since her sinking 68 years ago, images of U-513. The U-boat is considered one of the WWII submarines sunk furthers away from Germany during battle.

THE UNDERWATER FILMING
The underwater footage of the U-513 was made with a ROV model Sea Eye Falcon Marine, capable of operating up to 300 meters deep, assigned and operated by FUGRO BRAZIL.

S/V “Aysso” and M/V “Thunder” anchored at the location, launched the ROV (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) and with sonar-aided navigation (similar to a ship’s radar – working under water) located the submarine.

The recordings were performed with the ROV camera itself. For best results, HD 3D cameras were also mounted in housings to captured images of the submarine.

HISTORY
The U-513, under the command of the German captain Karl Friedrich Guggenberger, had the mission to sink any enemy vessel on the route between Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. She had already torpedoed three ships, including two Americans and a Brazilian.

The U-Boat-513 sank on July 19th, 1943. Lieutenant Roy S. Whitcomb was on a PBM-VP-74 flying-boat bomber on an antisubmarine sweep and spotted the surfaced U-boat. He ordered the attack. Captain Guggenberger on the deck of the submarine saw the approaching plane, he knew there was no time to submerge and began a counterattack. Whitcomb’s dropped six 225-pound bombs depth charges and the U-boat absorbed the full impact on her hull.

The U-513, 76 meters in length sunk immediately with its 46 crew. 7 men who were on deck where the only survivors, among them the captain Guggenberger.

THE SCHURMANN FAMILY
The Schurmann Family is the first Brazilian family to circumnavigate the world on a sailboat and the only Brazilian family to have done it twice. A household name in Brazil, the Schurmann Family has been active around the world through their online school program, as well as their films and TV programs.

In 1984 Vilfredo, Heloisa and their children left their home, their work and school and set off from Florianópolis, the capital city of the State of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, to pursue their dream: circumnavigate the world on a sailing yacht.

Their children, Pierre, David and Wilhelm, were 15, 10 and 7 years old. On this first adventure, the Schurmann Family spent 10 years at sea.

In 1997 the Schurmann Family began their second great adventure Magellan Global Adventure. The goal was to retrace the route sailed by Ferdinand Magellan’s fleet, the first complete circumnavigation of the planet. For this adventure, apart from the parents only their son David Schurmann and Kat, their 5-year-old daughter went along. Magellan Global Adventure was followed by more than 1,5 million people, from 44 countries. Every month the adventure’s filmed reports, broadcast internationally, had an average of 40 million television viewers in Brazil and many more around the world. After 30 months, the Schurmann’s yacht returned to Brazil.

The Family members are: Vilfredo, Heloisa, Pierre, David, Wilhelm and Kat Schurmann (d. 2006).

Bonaventure to Boston College: Here come The Bogside Artists!

The Bogside Artists of Derry, Tom Kelly, William Kelly and Kevin Hasson are on their way to St. Bonaventure University Buffalo to give talks and paint a mural for campus. “We look on this as a farewell gesture of sorts,” explained one of the trio Kevin Hasson. “The focus of our creativity from now on will be in Europe as part of the Art of Reconciliation program begun by our friend and agent Desmond Doyle.”

From Buffalo they will travel to Boston College to hold workshops and similarly give talks on their lives and work. Many documentaries have been made about the artists and one or two of these will comprise the visuals of their presentations.

The Bogside Artists are world renowned for the series of twelve murals they created for Derry called The People’s Gallery. These august images that stand like colossal sentries guarding the Bogside – the area that witnessed the worst of the troubles since 1968 – constitute the most visited tourist attraction in the city if not the whole of Ireland.

It has been over a decade since the artists last addressed the students of BC. Now, new students take the place of the old but their eagerness to hear the story of N.Ireland’s three decades of political strife is assured by hosts Profs, John Michalczyk and international peace negotiator Raymond Helmick both friends of the artists. Said spokesman Tom Kelly. “It will be wonderful catching up with old friends at BC. We have very fond memories of the people we met there. Our sincerest thanks to St. Bonaventure for inviting us over in the first place. The murals we created, as everybody knows, have been dumbed down by incumbent politicos who flourish and are kept in power by a Westminster sponsored policy of appeasement. Understandable as that may be, it is entirely reprehensible on many levels, as the murals contribute mightily to the economy of the city. One would think that, at a bare minimum, they would be properly marketed to the world at large but personal resentment towards us and political in-fighting have ensured that the exact opposite has been the consensus policy – to keep them hidden, in a word, an idiot interprise at best and very insulting not just to us but to all those who fought for democratic rights for so long and whose story we have told in the Bogside. Nevertheless, the murals we have created have made their own way in the world and are visited annually by tens of thousands of people despite the shameless attempts of Sinn Fein and Unionists alike to keep them out of sight. As we speak these paintings of ours that have featured in countless documentaries and articles all over the world have fallen into a bad state of disrepair from lack of local funding. We have just recently submitted an application so that we can bring the matter before council. That we are driven to do this is an appalling indictment against those who have purportedly been elected to represent the interests of the people. History, the very thing they have tried to stifle, will be their judge. In America we look forward to receiving the respect we feel we deserve. It will be a breath of fresh air for all of us.”
