Dark Fantasy Novel Malagon Rising Hits Bookshelves This October

Southern California-based publisher Luecrota Press announced today that upcoming dark fantasy novel, Malagon Rising by G. Winston Hyatt, will hit bookstore shelves on October 20, 2010.

Malagon Rising tells the story of the Solaran Empire as it rots from within. Imperial Prince Prince Corvun survives an assassination attempt by invoking the spirit of Malagon, an ancient dragon-god. Malagon’s corrupted magic saves Corvun’s life but costs him his throne. Now an outlaw reviled by the empire he was born to rule, he alone dares to battle an expanding theocracy led by the vicious Veiled Hierophant. Will a fallen prince’s wrath become mankind’s salvation or foreshadow its ultimate doom?

G. Winston Hyatt, a former staff writer for a production company, currently writes and teaches in Chicago. His fiction has appeared in Night Terrors: A Horror Anthology, Necrotic Tissue, Thuglit.com, and many other publications. This is his first novel.

According to Medieval Bestiaries, the Leucrota is the swiftest of wild animals. It is a composite animal with the head of a badger, the chest and front legs of a lion, the hindquarters and cloven hooves of a stag, and a mouth that stretches from ear to ear lined with a single row of bone.

So why a Leucrota? Well, because it’s different, just like them. They’re proud of their uniqueness, running ahead of the pack by testing limits and working with authors on a personal level that seems to be missing lately in the publishing industry. While they are a smaller house in size, they are by no means lacking in any division with dedicated marketing and sales staff, as well as experienced editors and graphic designers ready to work day or night to make the chosen books the success stories they all deserve to be.

Horror Film “The Kult” Begins Principal Photography in Southern California

Horror Film “The Kult” Begins Principal Photography in Southern California

San Diego-based Gharial Productions announces that upcoming horror film The Kult began principal photography on September 27, 2010 in San Diego and Riverside Counties under the direction of Kip Shelton.

The screenplay is based on the best selling thriller by UK author Shaun Jeffrey, and it weaves a terrifying story of a hunt for a serial killer. Acting out of misguided loyalty to his friends, Detective Prosper Snow is goaded into helping them perform a copycat killing. But when the real killer comes after him, it’s not only his life on the line, but his family’s too. If he goes to his colleagues for help, he risks being arrested for murder. If he doesn’t, he risks being killed.

The screenplay went into negotiations in the middle of November 2009 between Gharial Productions and Leucrota Press, and emerged with a solid contract offer and acceptance in early December.

The film stars Joe Soro, an unknown to the Hollywood movie scene, as Detective Prosper Snow. His casting carries on Gharial’s history of casting fresh faces. The entire film will be shot on location in San Diego and Riverside Counties, including the cities of San Diego, Poway, Temecula, and Lake Elsinore.

With two weeks of shooting already under the cast and crews’ belts, the level of excitement on set is palpable. As an added bonus, Shaun Jeffrey flew out to the US on October 5th to visit the set. He and the cast attended a book signing at the Barnes & Noble store in Oceanside, CA on the 6th.

The movie website and Facebook page are updated almost daily with new content. Find out more information at: http://www.thekultmovie.com or follow us at http://www.twitter.com/thekultmovie

A San Diego Reality Show’s Sneak Preview Makes A Big Splash Helping The Homeless

The PB Reality Show as it’s called, gave the world a peek of the first episode in an exclusive advanced screening at Moondoggies in Pacific Beach last week and the reviews are in.

San Diego, CA, October 14, 2010 — It’s not often you see scantly clad bikini models and homeless people on the same TV Show. Even more curious is how one man who once slept on the the beach is now a millionaire making a bikini calendar on that same beach. Known locally as the PB Millionaire, Jim Lawlor’s latest brainchild is a reality show based on his new lifestyle of living in a castle and the behind-the-scenes drama of making a swimsuit calendar.

The PB Reality Show ( http://www.pbreality.com ) as it’s called, gave the world a peek of the first episode in an exclusive advanced screening at Moondoggies in Pacific Beach last week and the reviews are in. Over 200 people stood in line and were handed questionnaires as they entered. Despite some technical problems with the club’s sound system the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

When asked who the most interesting character was, many said Jim. “Because he went from sleeping on the beach to living the California Dream”, Eric White wrote. “I can’t believes what he’s done. It’s a great idea.”, wrote an anonymous person. Another said “Jim- because he has a charismatic persona.”

When Lawlor first moved here to San Diego some 18 years ago the only money he had was in his wallet. Although college educated, he found it tough finding work in a bad economy at the time and had to paint houses just to get by. Ironically, he invented a pair of painting goggles for spraying that made him a millionaire. Now he has devoted his life to giving back with his main focus – helping the homeless of San Diego. “I admit I have an ulterior motive” Lawlor says. “Viewers are drawn in by the beautiful bikini girls then I re-direct their attention to the homeless issue. But I also want to give them genuine entertainment too.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ1VM3Q6xkA

When the show began with it’s opening of music and scenes of Pacific Beach, the audience cheered with excitement and pride for their hometown. And when the show ended they jumped out of their seats in applause, clapping, cheering, and shouting in praise.

“I felt it was very real and it grabbed my attention right away”, said one attendee. “Interesting in a way that is a new kind of reality show”, said another. When asked what they felt was best about the show one said “That it was filmed right here in San Diego”. Many others answered with “The beautiful girls”. “Good concept – bust the “O.C.” and “The Hills”!! – Ashley I. wrote.

The exclusive premiere event had a dual function; the spotlight was shared with a local charity, Photo Charity (http://photocharity.org ), which is devoted to helping the homeless youth of San Diego. Part of the show actually shows Jim helping the homeless. “…Giving away money is genuinely generous of that man”, somebody said. Jim matched the contributions made to charity that night.

When asked if asked if they would watch the show if it was aired on television, most said “YES!”

“Connected Souls” Packs the House at CD Release Party

More than 175 people attended the CD release party of Connected Souls, one of the Treasure Coast’s newest music duos featuring Mike Jordan and Doreen Poreba. The audience gathered to hear and buy the debut CD of the two singer-songwriters from Stuart.

Stuart, FL, October 08, 2010 — More than 175 people attended the CD release party of Connected Souls, one of the Treasure Coast’s newest music duos featuring Mike Jordan and Doreen Poreba. The audience gathered to hear and buy the debut CD of the two singer-songwriters from Stuart.

During the September 12th event held at Unity of Stuart, Poreba and Jordan began by thanking their producer, Albert Miller, an award-winning singer-songwriter and keyboardist who has performed alongside such artists as The Angels, Richie Havens, The Cowsills, The Rascals, The Lemon Pipers and Rod Stewart.

“This CD absolutely, positively would not have happened without Albert’s professionalism and guidance,” said Poreba, who is also known in the community as head of The PR Czar® Inc., http://www.prczar.com.

“When I first heard Doreen and Mike sing together, I thought, ‘what a nice combination those two have.’ Maybe I should produce them because they could make a nice CD,” said Miller, http://www.albertmiller.net, who is a member of the popular Critters Band with Don Ciccone and the Unity of Stuart music director. “I’m proud of the work we did together.”

Additional acknowledgments followed for Don Rowell, an award-winning guitarist from Stuart who played lead and slide guitars on the CD; Glenn Robinson for his Connected Souls logo design; Mitch Kloorfain for his photography featured on the CD packaging; and Rev. William Gill of Unity of Stuart and Rev. Janice Cary of Unity of Ft. Pierce for giving them steady performance opportunities.

“We appreciate all of the support we’ve gotten not only from those directly involved with the making of the CD, but also our growing fan base,” said Jordan.

The pair then told the audience about their musical backgrounds, how they formed their duo, and the inspiration behind each original song they wrote. For the first time, they played the songs featured on their full-length debut CD. To cap off the evening, the Unity of Stuart Joyful Noise Band & Choir joined them on stage for a live performance of “Treat Each Other Like God Would,” “The Miracle is You,” and “Time to Play,” the title track. The audience responded with a standing ovation.

The Connected Souls CD, described as positive thought, pop or easy listening music, features 10 original tracks, four written by Jordan and four by Poreba. A ninth song was co-written by Poreba, Miller and the late Walter Wurster. The CD includes a tenth original written by Miller and Geri Duryea, both Stuart residents. Jordan and Poreba handle all of the lead and background vocals and play guitar. They’re backed up by Miller, who provided a mix of keyboards and other instruments along with Rowell on guitar.

The CD is now available for sale online at CDBaby.com, iTunes, amazon.com, and digstation.com and locally through local nonprofit organizations, including Unity of Stuart and Unity of Fort Pierce. A portion of the proceeds will benefit each of the participating nonprofit groups. Any retail store or nonprofit organization wishing to sell the CD should call 772-221-2425.
