Cheer Channel Inc. Launches First Original Branded Web Series for Cheerleaders

AUSTIN, Texas (April 12, 2012) Cheer Channel Inc. (CCI), the premiere online digital news and entertainment network dedicated entirely to the spirit industry, announced today that they will debut the world premiere of the first original Web series written and produced specifically for cheerleaders and their millions of fans, “Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader,” in early April.

The spirit industry is a $4 billion industry, with its target demographic reaching female teens, tweens and ‘cheer’ moms.

“Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader” is a scripted, dramatic Web series consisting of six webisodes that will air on the Cheer Channel website and Facebook fan pages, the “Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader” Facebook fan pages, and YouTube channel and has locked in distribution deals with some of the largest distributors of Web series on the Internet, including Vimeo, Blip.TV, Koldcast.TV, Hulu, iTunes, Brightcover, Veoh, Web Series Today, Grab Networks, and Alphabird . In addition, “Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader” clips, trailers and full episodes will be posted on more than 70 of the most popular teen and tween social media platforms, including Twitter, Delicious, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Blogger.

“This is the first ever branded entertainment opportunity not only for vendors actively engaged with the cheer and dance industry, but from major brands that have wanted to find a way to gain access to this elusive yet attractive demographic” said Lance H. Robbins, President of Cheer Channel.

Sponsors can opt for integration of their brand into the storyline and/or place their banners and video ads that contain bonus material, such as deleted scenes, blooper reels, cast interviews, early audition tapes and behind the scenes of the production. The Web series rollout includes print, mobile, radio, on-site event promotions, and social media contests and sweepstakes.

Robbins, is the executive producer of the series that was developed from a story created by the author of “The Cheerleader’s Guide to Life”, and CCI CEO, Cindy Villarreal.  Robbins is the former President of Saban Entertainment (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”) and Fox Family Studios Worldwide, where he executive produced more than 70 movies for network and cable television, as well as hundreds of live action and animated series, including “Ninja Turtles”, “Sweet Valley High”, “Big Wolf on Campus”, “Casper Meets Wendy”, “The Addams Family”, “Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish” and “Au Pair”.

According to Robbins, “this series is the culmination of the Cheer Channel’s goal to provide not just news and information about the spirit industry, but to find new ways to reach millions of cheerleaders and their fans with original and cutting-edge entertainment programming”. Robbins adds, “this also gives or national advertisers and spirit industry vendors an opportunity to market their products online where our demographic of female tweens and teens spend most of their time”.

“Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader” is written and produced by Aaron Mendelsohn, who has written the screenplays for the multi-million dollar film franchise, “Air Bud,” and its 11 sequels for Disney, as well as numerous webisodes for brands and networks including Coca-Cola, Toyota, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and The Gap.  Most recently, Aaron wrote the screenplay for “12 Days of Christmas”, which was the highest rated Christmas movie this past holiday season on ABC Family Channel.

The series will be directed by Jared Seltzer who has directed and edited award-winning Web series, documentaries and reality shows for studios such as Paramount, Warner Bros, Universal and cable nets including Discovery, AMC and Bravo.

National casting calls began on Feb. 11 at cheer event producer Epic’s “Battle of the Boardwalk” as well as at the Cheersport Nationals February 17-19. Hundreds of girls turned out to audition for various roles that will be populated by real cheerleaders in the series.  Open casting calls will continue through the end of week.

“Having been a cheerleader and coach my entire life, we want to cast as many ‘real’ cheerleaders as we can so that it is truly authentic and relatable for this core audience,” said Villarreal.

Cheerleader Casting, the listing agency out of Los Angeles that specializes entirely in representing cheerleaders of all ages who can act, dance and perform stunts and routines is handling the casting duties for CCI.

First Images Of WWII German Submarine Sunk 68 Years Ago In Brazil

The U-Boat was located by the Schurmann Family in July 2011. Almost one year after locating the submarine, the Schurmanns joined efforts with deep sea diving experts to collect images of the U-513. With specialized technology, using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) the expedition made a 135 meters dive to film and take pictures of the wreck, for the first time in history.

“After years of research, finally we watched this historical moment. We first saw a shadow then gradually the images became very clear, the submarine is almost intact and whole as if she was placed there to sleep” said Vilfredo Schurmann leader of the expedition.

“The ROV (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) did several dives and with every new image we celebrated this great feat” says David Schurmann, the film director.

It all began in 2001 aboard their sailing yacht “Aysso”, when the Schurmanns a well-known sailing and expedition family in Brazil, was told of the story of a German submarine, sunk in 1943 during WWII in the waters of Southern Brazil.

Vilfredo and Heloisa Schurmann where hooked on the mysterious story and started researching the facts in the National Archives in Washington – USA, Berlin – Germany and in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil.

They were granted a license from the Brazilian Navy, and obtained the support of the Santa Catarina Government and UNIVALI University and were sponsored by TOTVS, CPE (Coastal Planning & Engineering) and FUGRO BRAZIL to further the search.

A team of 35 professionals (all volunteers) which included divers, oceanographers, retired officers from the Brazilian and USA Navy & Air Force, archaeologists, historians, filmmakers and the last surviving member of the USA airplane responsible for the U-boat sinking aided on the search.

After 2 years and 18 expeditions at sea, operating Side Scanning Sonars and Magnetometer, on July 17th 2011 on board their adapted sailing yacht “Aysso”, the Schurmanns located the exact position of the sunken submarine.

On March 8, 2012, aboard two ships, the expedition led by Vilfredo Schurmann and a crew of 20, filmed for the first time in history since her sinking 68 years ago, images of U-513. The U-boat is considered one of the WWII submarines sunk furthers away from Germany during battle.

THE UNDERWATER FILMING
The underwater footage of the U-513 was made with a ROV model Sea Eye Falcon Marine, capable of operating up to 300 meters deep, assigned and operated by FUGRO BRAZIL.

S/V “Aysso” and M/V “Thunder” anchored at the location, launched the ROV (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) and with sonar-aided navigation (similar to a ship’s radar – working under water) located the submarine.

The recordings were performed with the ROV camera itself. For best results, HD 3D cameras were also mounted in housings to captured images of the submarine.

HISTORY
The U-513, under the command of the German captain Karl Friedrich Guggenberger, had the mission to sink any enemy vessel on the route between Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. She had already torpedoed three ships, including two Americans and a Brazilian.

The U-Boat-513 sank on July 19th, 1943. Lieutenant Roy S. Whitcomb was on a PBM-VP-74 flying-boat bomber on an antisubmarine sweep and spotted the surfaced U-boat. He ordered the attack. Captain Guggenberger on the deck of the submarine saw the approaching plane, he knew there was no time to submerge and began a counterattack. Whitcomb’s dropped six 225-pound bombs depth charges and the U-boat absorbed the full impact on her hull.

The U-513, 76 meters in length sunk immediately with its 46 crew. 7 men who were on deck where the only survivors, among them the captain Guggenberger.

THE SCHURMANN FAMILY
The Schurmann Family is the first Brazilian family to circumnavigate the world on a sailboat and the only Brazilian family to have done it twice. A household name in Brazil, the Schurmann Family has been active around the world through their online school program, as well as their films and TV programs.

In 1984 Vilfredo, Heloisa and their children left their home, their work and school and set off from Florianópolis, the capital city of the State of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, to pursue their dream: circumnavigate the world on a sailing yacht.

Their children, Pierre, David and Wilhelm, were 15, 10 and 7 years old. On this first adventure, the Schurmann Family spent 10 years at sea.

In 1997 the Schurmann Family began their second great adventure Magellan Global Adventure. The goal was to retrace the route sailed by Ferdinand Magellan’s fleet, the first complete circumnavigation of the planet. For this adventure, apart from the parents only their son David Schurmann and Kat, their 5-year-old daughter went along. Magellan Global Adventure was followed by more than 1,5 million people, from 44 countries. Every month the adventure’s filmed reports, broadcast internationally, had an average of 40 million television viewers in Brazil and many more around the world. After 30 months, the Schurmann’s yacht returned to Brazil.

Bonaventure to Boston College: Here come The Bogside Artists!

The Bogside Artists of Derry, Tom Kelly, William Kelly and Kevin Hasson are on their way to St. Bonaventure University Buffalo to give talks and paint a mural for campus. “We look on this as a farewell gesture of sorts,” explained one of the trio Kevin Hasson. “The focus of our creativity from now on will be in Europe as part of the Art of Reconciliation program begun by our friend and agent Desmond Doyle.”

From Buffalo they will travel to Boston College to hold workshops and similarly give talks on their lives and work. Many documentaries have been made about the artists and one or two of these will comprise the visuals of their presentations.

The Bogside Artists are world renowned for the series of twelve murals they created for Derry called The People’s Gallery. These august images that stand like colossal sentries guarding the Bogside – the area that witnessed the worst of the troubles since 1968 – constitute the most visited tourist attraction in the city if not the whole of Ireland.

It has been over a decade since the artists last addressed the students of BC. Now, new students take the place of the old but their eagerness to hear the story of N.Ireland’s three decades of political strife is assured by hosts Profs, John Michalczyk and international peace negotiator Raymond Helmick both friends of the artists. Said spokesman Tom Kelly. “It will be wonderful catching up with old friends at BC. We have very fond memories of the people we met there. Our sincerest thanks to St. Bonaventure for inviting us over in the first place. The murals we created, as everybody knows, have been dumbed down by incumbent politicos who flourish and are kept in power by a Westminster sponsored policy of appeasement. Understandable as that may be, it is entirely reprehensible on many levels, as the murals contribute mightily to the economy of the city. One would think that, at a bare minimum, they would be properly marketed to the world at large but personal resentment towards us and political in-fighting have ensured that the exact opposite has been the consensus policy – to keep them hidden, in a word, an idiot interprise at best and very insulting not just to us but to all those who fought for democratic rights for so long and whose story we have told in the Bogside. Nevertheless, the murals we have created have made their own way in the world and are visited annually by tens of thousands of people despite the shameless attempts of Sinn Fein and Unionists alike to keep them out of sight. As we speak these paintings of ours that have featured in countless documentaries and articles all over the world have fallen into a bad state of disrepair from lack of local funding. We have just recently submitted an application so that we can bring the matter before council. That we are driven to do this is an appalling indictment against those who have purportedly been elected to represent the interests of the people. History, the very thing they have tried to stifle, will be their judge. In America we look forward to receiving the respect we feel we deserve. It will be a breath of fresh air for all of us.”

Meet LoveFooty.net – Football Blog Launches New Look Site

LoveFooty.net one of the webs oldest and most popular football blogs has launched a new look website with improved community & social features.

LoveFooty.net was initially launched at the start of 2007 and features all the latest news, gossip, opinions & football videos from the world’s most popular sport.

The new changes include a fresh design which is fast loading and easy to navigate. This is coupled with close integration with the internet’s top social networks including Facebook, Twitter and Google+ which makes it easier than ever for fans to share their views and content with other fans from across the globe.

Lead project designer James Scott who was in charge of the overhaul had this to say about the new look LoveFooty.net: “We had to completely overhaul the site design and we gave it a fresh lick of colour as the old site was rather bland, just in time for the African Cup of Nations 2012.”

Scott also had this to say about the social networking integration “The staggering growth in social networking sites and huge audiences available for popular topics like sports means we can tap into a huge audience very quickly.”

Not only does LoveFooty.net closely integrate their site with the top social networks but they also participate and engage with football fans worldwide using their social networking accounts on Twitter and Facebook.
