Two Rosendin Electric Construction Projects Singled Out as “Best of the Best” for 2015 by Engineering News Record

Leading Private Electrical Contractor Key Contributor to ENR Winning Projects in Health Care and Energy/Industrial Categories.

San Jose, CA, USA — Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and an employee-owned company, is pleased to announce that two of the company’s construction projects have been named Best of the Best for 2015 by Engineering News Record (ENR) magazine. Rosendin Electric was a key contributing contractor on both the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay and the Stanford Energy System Innovation construction projects, which were chosen as the Best Health Care Project and the Best Energy/Industrial Project, respectively.

The UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay in San Francisco is a $1.5-billion hospital construction project with 17 trade partners, including Rosendin Electric, led by DPR Construction. What made the UCSF Medical Center challenging was not only the scope and complexity of the project, but also the addition of plans to accommodate a new cancer-treatment center 18 months after construction began. Rosendin Electric was instrumental in working with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) team to create a detailed design using the latest BIM technology, and mapping the design for field inspection via mobile tablets. The project was finished at $200 million under budget, including $55 million in changes that were implemented without affecting the completion date.

The Stanford Energy System Innovation (SESI) project was a $380 million power systems upgrade to Stanford University’s power infrastructure to meet new, high-efficiency building standards and improve energy efficiency to existing buildings. The project included the addition of a high-voltage substation, installation of state-of-the-art solar arrays, and building a new central energy facility with the largest heat-recovery chillers installed in the U.S. Rosendin Electric was an important contributor to this project, aiding in the design-assist effort for the engineering and construction of the Heat Recovery Plant, OSHPD energy plant, new Administration building, and various site upgrades.

“There were more than 750 entries for ENR’s Best of the Best Projects and we are delighted that we had two projects selected as winners,” said Todd Mazza, Division Manager for Rosendin Electric. “Both the USCF Medical Center and the SESI project gave us an opportunity to display the latest in electrical engineering and design techniques, including computer modeling, prefabrication, and advanced solar technology. We are honored to be contributors to these types of innovative, ground-breaking projects.”

The software allows users to print Adobe PDF files from watched hot folders saving the time and effort of opening and printing each document manually.

“This is one of those apps that you never knew you needed until you spend a day using it,” says Glen Saville, a designer from Hornchurch, UK. “If you handle a large number of PDFs daily, this will save you a lot of time, without a doubt.”

BatchOutput PDF offers reliable, robust and affordable solution for users of any trade, whether it’s print, publishing, graphic design, education or financial sector:

Safe International offers First Nations Train the Trainer Self-Defense Classes for Aboriginal Protection

SAFE International™, a mobile self-defense business with certified partners in Canada, the US, and Australia, has developed a Self-Defense “Train the Trainer” program for First Nations to equip their communities with the training, knowledge, and information to protect themselves from violent victimization.

Lunenburg, ON, April 15, 2016 – SAFE International™, a mobile self-defense business with certified partners in Canada, the US, and Australia, has developed a Self-Defense “Train the Trainer” program for First Nations to equip their communities with the training, knowledge, and information to protect themselves from violent victimization. Since Aboriginal people are unfortunately twice as likely to experience assault, sexual assault, or robbery in their lifetime, SAFE International™ created a specific self defense certification that can be learned and implemented in the community to help people feel safer.

“Aboriginal people are almost twice as likely to be the victim of spousal violence as non-Aboriginals,” said Christopher Roberts, Founder and Instructor at SAFE International™. “Even worse, the homicide rate for an Aboriginal individual was almost seven-times higher than that of non-Aboriginals. At SAFE International™, it’s our goal to curb these alarming statistics and equip the community leaders with the training they need to protect their youth, teens, and adults.

The First Nations Self-Defense Classes are not Martial Arts programs, nor are they designed with complex techniques that take months to perfect. The self defense training focuses on the awareness and avoidance component of unexpected assault rather than just the physical part of self-defense. The ultimate goal is to train the Aboriginal people in identifying, avoiding, and removing themselves from situations that could turn violent.

“We know these are a serious and life-threatening situations we’re training people through,” said Roberts. “What’s so different about our courses is that we take a humor-based approach to sift through the honest and chilling information. We want our attendees to remember everything they were taught, and we believe the best way to do that is to make the entire course informational and fun at the same time.”

SAFE International intends to change the alarming statistics and ensure all Aboriginal people are free from harm. Our self defense “Train the Trainer” courses are currently available for communities in Canada and the United States.

AILBIEA Calls for Modernization of Ports and Rationalization of Policies at The Association’s 15th Anniversary Event

Lifetime achievement award conferred on Mr. Nadir B. Godrej, MD, Godrej Industries ltd.

Mumbai, India, April 15th, 2016 — The All India Liquid Bulk Importers and Exporters Association (AILBIEA) celebrated its 15th Anniversary on 1st April 2016 with glittering presence of officials like Mr. Prakash Mehta, Mr. Najib Shah, Mrs. Shobha Chary and Corporate dignitaries like Padma Bhushan Mr. Adi Godrej, Mr. M.P. Taparia of Supreme Industries, Mr. Rupesh Aggarwal of HUL, Mr. Sudhir Malhotra of Aegis Logistics Ltd., Mr. Himanshu Sanghvi of Overseas Polymers Pvt. Ltd, and many other dignitaries. The highlight of this event was conferring lifetime achievement award on Mr. Nadir B. Godrej, MD-Godrej Industries Ltd., along with presentation of AILBIEA Stellar Awards 2016 to Star Performers.

On the receipt of award Mr. Nadir Godrej said, “AILBIEA under the leadership of Jayyannt Lapsiaa has played an excellent role in bringing together the trade, service providers and the government. It has been my pleasure to work hand in hand with AILBIEA to facilitate India’s global trade over the last twenty years. I am honoured to receive this award and I am sure that AILBIEA will continue to facilitate India’s global trade.”

AILBIEA, an association of traders, manufacturers, importers, exporters and service providers engaged in the business of liquid bulk, which has an whopping volume of 180-200 Million Tons with a revenue of over Rs. 6.5 Lakh Crore, has called for an urgent need for various taxes and policies to be rationalized, with removal of antiquated policies and systems, as also for Mumbai and JNPT Ports to be modernized in order to make this industry a globally competitive one.

Padma Bhushan Mr. Adi Godrej, a captivating orator said, “India is a country with immense potential for growth and AILBIEA is playing a significant role from the front. Let us all work towards this metamorphosis of our nation, economy and international trade. The association also called for removal of operational constraints, stamp duty on transfer of shipping documents, rationalization and systemization of customs / excise procedure and a complete overhaul of the available infrastructure.

India is set to become a major importer of a wide variety of liquid bulk commodities such as biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel in the near future. In such a scenario, it is imperative for our ports infrastructure to be upgraded with state of the art technology. Changes in the infrastructure along with change in mindset of process owners is equally important, e.g., the customs department to change their drive into ‘Facilitation’ gear. According to Mr. Jayyannt Lapsiaa, President, of AILBIEA, “Any country’s economic growth is intertwined with its infrastructure development. High transaction cost arising from inadequate and inefficient infrastructure, delays and hassles due to antiquated procedures and systems, is one of the major hurdles that our economy is unable to attain its full growth potential regardless of progress on other fronts. Port connectivity is still the soft underbelly of the port sector. Efficient infrastructure combined with quality and expeditious clearance procedures will help reduce costs and sharpen the competitive edge.”

Mr. Jayyannt Lapsiaa added, “In addition, the association strongly believes in taking along other likeminded associations and trade bodies who pursue fostering of EXIM TRADE, so as to create a conducive and friendly environment for ensuring better results.” In addition to infrastructure development, the Association has identified 3 issues which require urgent remedial attention for the Liquid Bulk industry particularly imports and exports to match global scales and standards. It is time that Government at the Centre and State modifies its out-dated policies and procedures and gives the right encouragement to trade.

Octroi levy, sales tax, stamp duty on import / export of cargo, removal of antiquated procedures and systems, and, facilitation to trade by revenue departments, other governmental departments and Port are a few issues which have to be addressed immediately, if “Make in India” and ease of doing business have to succeed.

Ever since its inception, AILBIEA has striven to address various technical, legal, infrastructural, administrative and procedural issues of liquid bulk trade. The stakeholders include importers, exporters, clearing and forwarding agents, shipping agents, installation owners, Surveyors, Barge operators and intermediaries connected with liquid bulk trade. The primary objective of this association continues to be that of playing a significant role of ‘Catalyst’ between various Port Authorities, Governmental and Revenue Departments and provide more solidity and clarity in ensuring smooth and fair operations.

AILBIEA’s anniversary events are aimed at providing an ideal platform to Trade and Revenue and Port Departments to have healthy interactions and also bring in closeness so that various issues could be amicably understood and settled.

New Conventional Charter Captain’s Special Fishing Reel from KastKing®

KastKing® creates an affordable conventional round baitcasting reel with the needs of charter boat, party boat, and head boat captains in mind.

Garden City, Long Island, NY — KastKing, a division of Eposeidon, Inc., (http://www.eposeidon.com) located on Long Island, New York, has introduced a new round conventional baitcasting reel for the professional fishing charter market – the KastKing Rover B Charter Captain Special.

The KastKing® Rover B Charter Captain Special series in 40, 50, and 60 sizes comes without a level-wind line guide and are equipped with 6 premium shielded stainless steel ball bearings, carbon fiber drag washers, instant-stop anti reverse, 5.3:1 gear ratio, precision machined brass gears, centrifugal brake, hard anodized aluminum alloy spool and side plates, stainless steel components, and line-out alarm clicker.

“We have met with many fishing guides and captains around the country for their input. Our objectives were to help them keep their operating costs down and provide durable tackle, which also translates to savings,” says Tom Gahan, Marketing Director at Eposeidon, Inc. “We originally set the stage with KastKing® braided line. It sells for less than half of competing brands and is as good as or better than anything out there. It will be the same for the KastKing® Rover. We are not the first to have a non-levelwind reel. But, we can safely say we’re the first to offer a quality reel of this type at this price point with so many features such as carbon fiber drag. We listened to the professional fishing public, and the KastKing Rover Charter Captain’s Special is the result.”

The all new KastKing® Rover, has several upgrades from the original RXA model with all new and improved features including: carbon fiber drag washers, centrifugal brake, hardened stainless steel main shaft, non-slip foam grips on dynamic strengthened handles, reinforced side plates, and an ergonomic thumb release line out bar. Rover is also available with a level-wind line guide in all sizes for those who want that feature. Rover reels are available right or left-handed models and are saltwater approved.

“I chose the 60 size for fishing off the East End of Long Island where I commonly use eight-ounces of sinker weight when bottom fishing. The KastKing Rover B 60 should be perfect for inshore work on saltwater species such as fluke, sea bass, and porgies. In addition, this reel should have no problem with school sized stripers, bluefish, and also redfish and large catfish,” says Capt. Tom Mikoleski of Grand Slam Charters in Montauk, NY and author of Bass Buff- A Striper Fishing Obsession Guide. “The reason for the ‘no level wind’ is twofold. Firstly, it’s something else that can break, and in addition, newbies can very easily get their fingers pinched between the level wind guide and the frame when using a level wind reel. Now this can’t happen. It’s a safety factor for clients.”

KastKing® Rover will be initially available through http://www.Amazon.com/KastKing and other online retailers. MSRP ranges from $62.98 to $67.98 for 40, 50, and 60 sizes and will be discounted to sell in the mid-$40 to mid-$50 range based on size.

KastKing is a division of Eposeidon, Inc.

Salinas, CA, April 12, 2016 – The Steinbeck Festival is back! The National Steinbeck Center, at One Main Street, Salinas, offers a weekend of engaging “JON talks,” new films, and a variety of tours (the Red Pony Ranch, Salinas walking tours, an Ag tour, Ricketts’s lab tour, and whale watching). Friday night’s banquet at the NSC features a talk by the Aquarium’s new Director of Science, Kyle Van Houtan. On Saturday, May 7, the NSC is partnering with Steinbeck Rotary’s Home Beer Fest on Main—adding more “fest” to the annual festival. Sunday features a slate of teacher workshops at the NSC.

The three-day Festival celebrates Steinbeck’s land/sea ethic and his enduring legacy as writer, activist, and ecologist.

At Friday night’s banquet and wine tasting, Dr. Van Houtan will discuss “The sea turtle populations of Hawaii—linking ocean, land and culture.” (John Steinbeck and each crew member on the Western Flyer brought stuffed sea turtles back from Baja!)

This year’s Festival features films and crowd-pleasing “JON talks,” lively half hour discussions of Steinbeck’s enduring legacy as well as local history. Director Susan Shillinglaw kicks off at 9:00 AM Friday with remarks about Steinbeck’s sense of place: How is the local, global? Friday morning speakers also include biographer William Souder (author of Rachel Carson and John James Audobon biographies), who will introduce his Steinbeck-biography-in-progress. Stanford English Department Chair Gavin Jones considers Steinbeck, land, drought and race. A round table discussion follows. Afternoon speakers consider the cultural impact of braceros in the Salinas Valley—with author Sergio Chavez; documentary filmmaker Ignacio Rodriguez; and photographer Daniel Ruanova. Jean Vengua discusses Filipinos newspapers and Eric Palmer will show a “teaser” of his documentary film about Japanese Flower growers.

Tours on Friday include the Red Pony Ranch and Salinas’s Main Street.

Saturday features presentations on Steinbeck and the sea, with Steinbeck scholar Robert DeMott kicking off the day’s events with a talk on Steinbeck and fishing. Ricketts’s scholar Katie Rodgers will discuss a newly-published essay by Edward F. Ricketts. John Gregg, owner of the boat Steinbeck and Ricketts sailed to Baja in 1940, explains recent restoration work on The Western Flyer. Mary Ellen Hannibal talks about her new book on citizen science. After morning sessions, participants can stroll Main Street’s Home Beer Festival, sponsored by the Steinbeck Rotary (one beer garden is at the NSC!). That afternoon offers a “cioppino” of different “JON talks,” including “Craft Beer 101” (Steinbeck once appeared in an ad for Balantine Ale.) Former National Book Award director Harold Augenbraum discusses The Pearl in English and Spanish; Stanford professor William Gilly recounts his 2004 trip retracing Ricketts and Steinbeck’s 1940 Sea of Cortez trip; and David Dennis discusses how he creates surfboards from Steinbeck themed wood.

On Saturday night at the Steinbeck House, there will be a craft beer tasting benefit dinner at the Steinbeck House, with all proceeds going to the Steinbeck Center.

Sunday’s teacher workshop theme is “crossing boundaries” and panelists will discuss integrated lessons: jazz, teaching the common good, and Japanese internment.

A three-day Festival pass is $75 (excluding dinners and tours). Tickets are available online at Steinbeck.org or call 831-775-4721.
