The Monterey Museum of Art Announces Year of the Woman 2018 Exhibition and Events Schedule

The Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) is pleased to announce a full slate of exhibitions, lectures, pop-up dinners, tours, workshops, and fundraisers with a focus on notable women artists of California and the Central Coast.

Monterey, CA, January 11, 2018 – The Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) is pleased to announce a full slate of exhibitions, lectures, pop-up dinners, tours, workshops, and fundraisers with a focus on notable women artists of California and the Central Coast.

Why is the very idea of artistic greatness rarely extended to women? The MMA puts the question center stage in a series of exhibitions showing groundbreaking work of California women artists spanning 100 years plus of style, medium, and perspective.

“We have some amazing work by women,” said Stuart Chase, the Museum’s Executive Director, “but their work only makes up about twenty percent of our entire collection. By recognizing the work and wisdom of women artists past and present, we hope to help articulate an inclusive vision for the future.”

From E. Charlton Fortune, a bold and free-spirited early 20th century impressionist, to Kim Campbell, an abstract expressionist, women artists exhibited this year are not only “as good as the men,” some of them have blazed new trails where no man has gone before.

Please note: the MMA on Pacific Street will be closed February 5 through March 14, 2018 for gallery renovations.

Exhibitions slated to open in 2018 include:

About the Exhibition:
The most remarkable aspect of Huihan’s art is his ability to infuse his painted characters with life and a sense of living history. For this, he is known as one of the pre-eminent narrative painters of this generation. His paintings tell a story well beyond the moment in time that is captured in the image. The people he paints are real. He is dedicated to recording the people of disappearing cultures in their native costumes and at their historical work in the high reaches of the Himalayas. Most of the images for his exhibition at Mountainsong Galleries were painted during recent trips to Tibet. The innate pride, beauty and serenity of the Tibetan people is brilliantly represented in these pieces full of delicate color and light. Liu and Liang are both artists of immense talent. Weizhen combines traditional Chinese art with impressionism to create pieces with soft colors and peacefulness. Weizhen is a Master Artist with the American Impressionist Society. In Huihan Liu’s words, “My passion is to capture the Tibetan culture before it fades … on their journey; their spirit was what inspired me to complete this work.”

Artist Statement:
A master signature member of the Oil Painters of America, a master signature member of American Impressionist Society and an artist signature member of California art Club, Huihan Liu was trained in the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in China in 1972 with a BA and MFA from the Academy of Art College of San Francisco in 1989. With more than twenty years of his professional career as an illustrator, teacher, and painter, he won Best of Show Award in the Oil Painters of American Regional Exhibition in 1996. Huihan Liu was featured in Art of the West magazine in 1998, 2003, and 2005; in The Artist’ Magazine in April 1999; and in Southwest Art in April 2000.

Luxury Travel Vietnam Wraps Up a Successful WTM Latin America 2013

Vietnam’s First Luxury Travel and Tour Operator (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) to Attract Long Haul Travelers from South America.

Hanoi, Vietnam, May 11, 2013 – Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) has pinned high hopes on expanding its Latin America clientele following its successful show at the recent World Travel Market Latin America 2013.

Pham Ha, CEO and founder of Luxury Travel, held high level meetings with representatives of a large number of companies and the leaders of the luxury tourism industry. Luxury Travel Ltd. is an Asian pioneer in venturing into long haul markets such as Latin America.

The WTM Latin America Exhibition took place from April 23-25 and attracted a total of 1,230 exhibitors from all over the world. World Travel Market Latin America brings the world to Latin America and promotes Latin America to the world. It will be staged annually in the economic powerhouse of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Luxury Travel Ltd. (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) delegation returned home last week, satisfied and very optimistic that visitor arrivals from Latin America (especially Brazil) will grow in the future and at a faster pace than before.

The team believes that Vietnam is the ‘new’ exotic destination for Brazilian travelers from this year onwards. The meetings went well with the media, as well as with local trade partners from Brazil and the Latin American region.

“Three years ago there few bookings from the region and now there are far more, thanks in large part to our wholesales tour operator, Lameco Viajes. We now have a new website in Spanish www.luxurytravels.es, a representative office and a Spanish speaking team to tap into this emerging market.” says Pham Ha.

Vietnam now has world-class hotels and resorts, beaches, and cuisine, in addition to its natural beauty, rich history, and traditional culture.

Travelers from Latin America traveling to Vietnam are looking for a more authentic experience and seek to have a deeper understanding of the country’s culture, food, history, and everyday life.

The country received 6.8 million international arrivals in 2012, and the number of travelers from Latin American has increased annually over the last 3 years.

“The volume of long haul holiday tourists and first time visitors is increasing from Brazil and the Indochinese Peninsula has the potential to exploit its strength as a ‘choice’ holiday destination for the Brazilian market and Latin America since Air France, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines, Thai Airways fly to Brazil from their hubs, with easy access to other Latin America countries.” added Pham Ha.

Latin America is in a strong financial position at the moment and Pham Ha stressed the importance of diversifying markets by participating in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets, which provide an ideal platform for the latest contemporary trends and the ability to communicate and establish business partnerships with experts and tourism companies.

During the exhibition, Luxury Travel Ltd. also announced the appointment of a representation company based in Uruguay, as the official representation company for Luxury Travel Ltd. in South America, including Brazil. This appointment confirmed how serious Luxury Travel Ltd. is about the South American market.

This exhibition is a part of Art Bengaluru 2012 and we would like to invite participation from everyone to make this unique art festival a true success.”

“Travel has been my greatest source of inspiration, and this collection is inspired by the historical jewellery and traditions of the South-East Asian archipelago, where each motif and texture is rooted in reason. When I visualized this collection, it evoked a feeling of romance which I have expressed through the jewels, using pearls as the expression of moonlight, with motifs and textures which find their origins in history… I call it ‘By the Lombok Moonlight’.” added Ms. Pallavi Foley – renowned jewellery designer.

Acclaimed artist, Vijit Pillai commented on the collection, “My artworks have been inspired by Pallavi’s exquisite jewellery and I have used textures, patterns and colours to create abstract forms that complement her designs. I have also used Buddha and Ganesha figures as backdrops in a few of the artworks to add a slight twist to the creations. To bring all these elements together and yet retain the original concept has been challenging, but enjoyable. My art is unpredictable, with inconclusive endings leaving a lot to the viewer’s imagination – which is what makes it interactive and hopefully exciting! ”

The exhibition will be on at the Sublime Galleria ( http://www.sublimegalleria.com ) in UB City during Art Bengaluru 2012 from 10-24 August from 11am to 8pm.

About the exhibition:
The stylization of both the artists – Pallavi Foley & Vijit Pillai is modern and contemporary. The jewellery art pieces do take inspiration from historical jewellery pieces, yet are a modern and avant-garde version of the same. The digital art is a unique abstraction, where jewellery becomes the protagonist and each form, a new artistic expression.

Pallavi’s focus areas are the textures of the palm leaf and its abstractions, the simplistic hornbills, the leafy forms and sculptural tones with three-dimensional folds and curves, modern and layered.

After Surpassing USA, UK and Japan to Become India’s Largest Trading Partner, Trade Between India & China Expected to Continue at a Record Breaking Pace

* Over 120 Chinese companies participating in the 9th China Products (Mumbai India) Exhibition 2011 to continue the business momentum with India. The exhibition will be held from 15th – 17th December, 2011 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai, India.

Mumbai, India, Wednesday – December 07, 2011 — With China overtaking USA, UK & Japan to become India’s largest trading partner in 2010-11 and trade relations between the two countries continuing to grow at a fast pace, Chinese entrepreneurs are tapping opportunities like the 9th China Products (Mumbai India) Exhibition 2011 to get in touch with Indian businessmen. The exhibition will be held from 15th – 17th December, 2011 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai, India.

Trade volumes between India and China reached US $ 61.7 billion in 2010 and it is anticipated to reach US $ 100 billion by 2013. In the first 8 months of 2011, India-China bilateral trade reached US$ 48.17 billion, an increase of 19.47% over the same period last year. The added impetus to the growing Indo-China trade is the debt crisis in Europe and the anticipated slowdown in the US. Additionally, trade confidence between both India & China – which have strong domestic consumption – is also quite high.

According to Mr. Suresh Prabhu, four time Member of Lok Sabha and former Union Cabinet Minister for Power, Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, who has consented to preside as Chief Guest at Opening Ceremony of the expo, “Many areas of common interest between India and China can be addressed through bilateral co-operation. There are a lot of opportunities for India and China to collaborate and develop positive relations based on trust and friendship for mutual benefit”.

The 9th China Products (Mumbai India) Exhibition 2011 ( http://www.chinamumbaiexpo.com ) is the biggest platform for Indian and Chinese entrepreneurs to interact with each other, and – as in the previous years – will serve as a platform for the Indian Industry to explore long-term business associations with Chinese companies in the form of tie-ups, joint ventures, collaborations and import-export trading relations.

On display at the Exhibitions will be an extensive range of products across a wide section of industries like building, construction and interiors, cosmetic and beauty products, diesel engine and diesel generator sets, electrical appliances, electronics, fabrics and garments, food and beverages, gifts and toys, glassware, handicrafts, hardware and tools, health and hygiene, home appliances, industrial products, sanitary ware, stationery, water pumps etc.

The trade show is being organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Sub-councils of Commercial Industry, Guangdong, Ningbo and Hangzhou. The Exhibition is supported by the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and the India-China Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCCI) and managed by Worldex India.
