T5 Data Centers(TM) Adds a Level 3 Fiber “Point-of-Presence” in the T5@Atlanta Data Center

T5@Atlanta, the Southeast’s premiere multi-tenant data center, now provides its customers direct access to the Level 3 network by way of an on-site Point-of-Presence.

Atlanta, GA, USA (March 25, 2015) — T5 Data Centers™, a provider of Multi-Tenant Data Centers with a portfolio of facilities across North America, today announced global telecommunications company Level 3 Communications, will provide a fiber point-of-presence (PoP) at the company’s “T5@Atlanta” data center. Current and future tenants will have the option to lease direct network access from Level 3 for greater reliability and flexibility.

T5@Atlanta is a purpose-built, Tier III, server-ready data center that features multiple independent data suites occupied by various tenants. Enterprises can take advantage of stronger service level agreements (SLAs), more available bandwidth and better service and support through the new access to Level 3’s highly secure fiber backbone.

“By establishing a PoP at T5@Atlanta we can offer enterprise customers around the country faster, more reliable access to their critical data,” said Brian Dolan, vice president and general manager of Georgia for Level 3. “We recently expanded our network presence in the technology corridor Alpharetta to provide the local to global connection for the more than 600 companies working out of the area.”

One of seven sites across the United States, T5@Atlanta has more than 100,000 square feet under one roof, including 55,000 feet of raised floor, with individual data halls, each separated by slab-to-deck, fire-rated walls for autonomous operation. The data center also has an installed critical IT power load of 6,000 kW, expandable to 9,000 kW and is fed by five separate substations; two of them on Georgia Power’s “Hi-Reli” system for mission-critical users. It’s ideally suited for companies that require secure, dedicated control of their mission critical data operations, such as financial service firms, insurance companies, and health care providers.

“Although we remain a carrier-neutral colocation provider, we want to be able to offer our tenants a choice in telecommunications providers, including direct network access over high-speed fiber,” said Jason Chartrand, Executive Vice President of National Business Development for T5 Data Centers. “This new agreement with Level 3 puts us in a stronger position to serve regional customers with highly reliable colocation services.”

Currently Level 3 is the only network services provider to have a PoP facility on-site.

T5 Data Centers(TM) Breaks Ground on T5@Portland Data Center Campus

T5 Begins Construction on Silicon Forest’s Most Advanced Wholesale Colocation Data Center to Accommodate Growing Demand for Business-critical Computing in the Pacific Northwest.

Hillsboro, OR, USA (September 16, 2014) — T5 Data Centers™, innovators in providing state-of-the-art, customizable and highly reliable computing support environments for any enterprise, today announced that the company has broken ground on T5@Portland, a two building wholesale colocation data center campus in suburban Portland. The company is also pleased to announce that a Fortune 100 company has already leased T5@Portland’s first building.

T5@Portland is the first purpose-built, state-of-the-art data center campus to be constructed in the Silicon Forest. The new data center campus will consist of two separate buildings; one of which has already been pre-leased. The second building will be a 110,000 square foot, nine (9) critical megawatt data center and pre-leasing is already underway for this facility. The T5@Portland data centers should be ready for occupancy in early summer 2015.

Like T5’s entire portfolio of data centers, T5@Portland’s facilities are purpose-built and offer server-ready IT solutions capable of housing multiple independent data center tenants. T5@Portland is being constructed to LEED Silver specification, and will take advantage of the coastal Pacific Northwest climate to offset cooling costs and maximize power usage effectiveness (PUE) of the data centers. The T5@Portland data centers will also have extremely reliable power from two redundant power feeds into the facility and are being designed as high-performance, highly efficient, seismic secure, purpose-built data centers.

“We have built a national reputation for delivering high-quality data centers that provide superior reliability,” said Aaron Wangenheim, Chief Marketing Officer for T5 Data Centers, “and this project is another great example of that philosophy. T5@Portland meets all the criteria that enterprise customers are looking for – purpose built performance, high resiliency and low cost. T5’s strategy is to continue to build the best data centers in the best locations.”

In addition to its technical specification, T5@Portland tenants will be able to take advantage of the favorable business and economic climate of Oregon, and specifically the City of Hillsboro. The area offers a number of economic incentives, including tax exemptions to stimulate e-commerce and technology companies, including significant sales and property tax benefits. With the combination of low-cost infrastructure, attractive economic incentives, flexible control over customer operational space, and guaranteed power, T5@Portland promises to be one of the most attractive corporate data center colocation options in the Pacific Northwest.

T5@Portland is one of seven sites across the United States within the T5 Data Centers portfolio, all designed with the same attention to reliability and service. Each data center is purpose-built to give customers total control of their own dedicated data hall so T5’s customers can better manage their Total Cost of Occupancy.

Skybox Datacenters and T5 Facilities Management Partner to Bring Top Tier Data Center Operations to Skybox Houston One

Skybox Datacenters Teams with T5 Facilities Management to Launch Turnkey Data Center Services to Companies in the Houston Energy Corridor.

Houston, TX, USA (September 9, 2014) — Skybox Datacenters™, a Dallas-based data center developer, today announced it has formed a strategic partnership with T5 Facilities Management (T5FM). Through this strategic partnership, Skybox will offer move-in ready wholesale data centers in mid-market locations operated by the same team that operates T5 Data Centers’™ national portfolio of wholesale data centers. Construction on the first data center initiative, Skybox Houston One, is expected to be completed in November and it will be commissioned in January 2015.

Skybox Datacenters recently broke ground on its Skybox Houston One facility, an 86,960-square-foot purpose-built data center with four independent data halls; the first wholesale data center to serve the Houston Energy Corridor. The new Skybox Houston One facility offers dedicated data halls at 1.2 to 2.4 MW each with lower overall total cost of operations than retail data centers. Additionally, Skybox uniquely offers tenants the ability to procure and negotiate their own power contracts directly with the provider of their choice. Under the partnership agreement, Skybox will serve as landlord and T5FM will provide facilities support and operations management for Skybox Houston One.

“Skybox and T5 have very similar philosophies as to how to best serve data center customers, and through this partnership we can bring T5’s facilities management expertise to new customers in mid-market regions,” said Mike Casey, COO of T5. “The expertise and protocols that existing T5 customers rely on will adapt quite well to Skybox’s clientele.”

T5FM offers comprehensive on-site data center management; the same comprehensive facilities management that T5 uses in its data centers in Atlanta, Colorado, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, North Carolina, and Portland. T5FM will apply the same kind of best practices used in all of T5’s data centers, including policies and procedures to mitigate risk and eliminate operational concerns with an emphasis on safety, training, and communications.

“The strategic partnership between Skybox Datacenters and T5FM will bring the best data center management expertise available to our customers,” said Rob Morris, Managing Partner, Skybox Datacenters. “This partnership allows us to focus on our core development business while knowing that the T5FM team will keep operations running smoothly. It’s a great marriage.”

Using this wholesale data center business model, Skybox will lease self-contained data center halls to customers, each with its own dedicated mechanical and electrical infrastructure, so customers retain total operational control. An on-site T5FM team will provide infrastructure support. Skybox Houston One is specifically designed to cater to the needs of oil and gas, healthcare, and other large corporations in the region to meet their business-critical, high-performance, ultra low latency computing needs.

New CIR Report States that Sales of Active Optical Cables for the Data Center To Reach $1.5 billion

According to a new report from Communications Industry Researchers, sales of active optical cables (AOCs) for the data center will produce $1.5 billion in revenues by 2019.

Charlottesville, VA, USA (June 27, 2014) — According to a new report from Communications Industry Researchers, sales of active optical cables (AOCs) for the data center will produce $1.5 billion in revenues by 2019. The report “Active Optical Cable Markets – Data Center Applications,” is part of a two-volume set. CIR has also recently published an analysis and forecast of the market for AOCs for applications in personal computing, consumer electronics and digital signage.

More details about this report can be found at: http://www.cir-inc.com/reports/active-optical-cable-markets-and-opportunities-2014-to-2024-volume-i-data-c.

About the report:

This report identifies and quantifies opportunities for selling AOCs for the data center. AOCs in this sector carry Ethernet, InfiniBand (IB), Fibre Channel and SAS. Specifically, the report provides coverage on AOCs supporting the CX4, SFP/SFP+, QSFP, CXP, CFP, CDFP, and SAS/Min-SAS MSAs. In addition, the report provides detailed nine-year forecasts of data center AOC markets, with breakouts by end-user application, interface standard, cable lengths, type of cable and wavelength. Forecasts are provided in units shipped and revenue terms.

This new CIR study also assesses the product/market strategies of the leading AOC suppliers including: 3M, 10GTEK, A3CUBE, Amphenol, Avago, Brocade, Centera Photonics, ConnPro, Eoptolink, FCI, Fiberon, Finisar, Fujikura, Gigalight, Fujitsu, Hitachi Cable, IBM, InnoLight, JDSU, Juniper Networks, Luxtera, Mellanox, Molex, Multilane, Samtec, Siemon, Sopto, Sumitomo, TE Connectivity, Volex.

From the report:

Data centers are getting bigger and are requiring much higher data-rate pipes and interconnects than ever before. Mobile broadband and video applications are flooding data centers with content and this creates a growing incentive to shift to fiber in at least part of the data center. It is becoming increasingly difficult for data center managers to avoid fiber optics and at the same time AOCs offer an excellent entry point for fiber optics to all but the most structured-cabling savvy network managers.

Chinese AOC suppliers are showing that they can compete with the best U.S., European and Japanese AOC suppliers. They are now able to supply 40 Gbps cables with ease and a few are offering 100-Gbps AOCs. A few years back CIR would have seen the whole optical engine concept as beyond the capabilities of Chinese suppliers. But today Gigalight is using optical engines as the basis for its optical data center products, and other Chinese firms are expected to follow suit.

The Chinese AOC challenge will require a strategic response from established AOC firms. This could take the form of better branding, improved supply chains or upgraded products. For example, the TE Connectivity line was upgraded in 2011 with 40-Gbps products that offered reduced power consumption and lighter-weight cables and other leading AOC firms will follow suit.

We also expect to see more activity in AOCs that use the highest-performance modules. Such AOCs are not easy to make and this presents barriers to entry into the data center markets for smaller, less able AOC firms; providing market protection for the largest suppliers. The markets for such high-end AOCs are also not inconsiderable. CFP and CDFP together are expected to generate $190 million in revenues by 2019. Indeed, we think that the proverbial “next big thing” in the AOC space will be CDFP AOCs and expect to see such products prominently displayed at the OFC, ECOC and SC trade shows in 2015. For now, the three companies to watch in this space are Finisar, Molex and TE Connectivity, all of which have already introduced CDFP AOCs.

Nonetheless, throughout the period considered in this report, the “workhorse” QSFP and CXP AOCs will be the biggest revenue earners, with combined sales of $1.3 billion in 2019. These MSAs support both the Ethernet and IB protocols that are core to any data center and at data rates that are likely to be the ones most used in data centers over the next decade. The earliest QSFP AOCs catered to the 10-Gbps market, but the QSFP AOC business is now centered around the 40-Gbps opportunity. CXP can support 100 GigE or three 40-GigE channels. At this point almost every firm offering a range of AOCs includes CXP options.

About CIR:

Communications Industry Researchers has been publishing hype-free industry analysis for the optical networking industry for almost 25 years. We have provided market coverage of Active Optical Cables (AOCs) for six years. Our annual reports on this topic are widely regarded as the most authoritative market forecast and technology assessment in the AOC space.

T5 Data Centers™ Launches T5@NY Data Center Facility in Westchester County to Serve Metro New York Market

Powered Shell Data Center Located 30 Miles North of Manhattan Ideal for Disaster Recovery and Mirrored Data Processing for Financial and Trading Firms.

Briarcliff Manor, NY, USA (January 8, 2014) — T5 Data Centers™, innovators in providing state-of-the-art, customizable and highly reliable computing support environments for any enterprise, today announced the launch of T5@NY in Westchester County, the company’s seventh U.S. data center location and the first T5 facility in the Northeast.

Developed in conjunction with Lincoln Rackhouse, the data center division for Lincoln Property Company, the new powered-shell, purpose-built data center is a completely renovated facility located 30 miles north of Manhattan. The 38,000-square-foot building is located on 9.4 acres and the site was chosen because of its proximity to New York City, making it ideal for disaster recovery or use as a “mirror” data center location for enterprise, financial services, trading, and technology firms. It has an existing 2 MW capacity expandable to 4.25 MW, with fiber telecommunication connections available from multiple providers.

“When we decided to open our T5@NY facility, we applied what we learned from Hurricane Sandy,” said Aaron Wangenheim, Chief Marketing Officer for T5 Data Centers. “We chose Briarcliff Manor because we believe it to be one of the safest data center locations in the New York metro, as evidenced by the fact that the area was largely unaffected by Sandy and never lost power. It’s also in the heart of a booming technology region. T5@NY is a great addition to our portfolio, expanding our presence into the Northeast and giving us access to new clients seeking data center resiliency and customization.”

T5@NY is located in the heart of the New York BioHud Valley, home of the largest biotechnology workforce in New York State. T5@NY can serve as an excellent laboratory or incubator space for regional medical and research institutions, such as Cornell, New York Medical College, Phelps Memorial Hospital, and Westchester Medical Center. Westchester County is also home to the headquarters of New York Life, Chrysler Financial, Liberty Mutual, PepsiCo, IBM, and other global companies.

T5 Data Centers is marketing to new tenants for T5@NY now. The facility is expected to be completely operational by the second quarter of this year.

T5 Data Centers’ T5@LA Data Center Facility Receives LEED(R) Silver Certification

USGCB Awards T5’s Los Angeles Data Center Green Building Certification.

Los Angeles, CA, USA (October 22, 2013) — T5 Data Centers, innovators in providing state-of-the-art, customizable and highly reliable computing support environments for any enterprise, today announced that the company’s T5@LA facility has been granted LEED® Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the third T5 data center to be granted LEED certification and serves as another example of the company’s commitment to maintaining environmentally responsible data centers.

T5@LA was fully commissioned in August 2012 and is a tier III-plus MEP design (mechanical, engineering, plumbing) purpose-built data center located in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport. The building boasts 181,489 square feet under one roof and uses Munters evaporative cooling systems mounted on the roof for a lower PUE (power usage effectiveness). The data center also has its own dedicated onsite power station and is capable of delivering 15.9 MW of critical IT load.

To qualify for LEED Silver certification, T5@LA was built using sustainable materials and is equipped with the latest energy-saving heating, cooling, and lighting systems. The data center has a 40% greater energy efficiency than competing data centers in the region and has an optimal PUE. The building also is located adjacent to the Los Angeles Metro Rail and can be easily reached via mass transit. T5@LA has already started attracting tenants, including a major transportation service operator.

“The lower our carbon footprint, the better it is for our tenants as well as the environment,” said Robbie Sovie, LEED AP, Vice President, Development for T5 Data Centers. “T5 is committed to maintaining green data centers to save our customers operating expenses at the same time we are conserving natural resources. Our goal is to ultimately receive LEED certification for all of our data center facilities as proof of our environmental commitment as green corporate citizens.”

T5’s Data Center’s T5@Atlanta and T5@Dallas facilities are also LEED Silver certified, and T5 anticipates its T5@Kings Mountain, T5@Portland, and T5@Colorado Springs projects will be LEED certified in the near future.

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. More than 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, which represents more than 8 billion square feet of construction space spanning the 50 United States and 120 countries.
