T5 Data Centers Breaks Ground on New Build-to-Suit Data Center at Kings Mountain Campus

New Custom-Designed Data Center Contract Reaffirms T5’s Expertise in the Design and Construction of Build-to-Suit, High-Performance Data Centers.

Kings Mountain, NC, USA (January 6, 2016) — T5 Data Centers™, innovators in providing state-of-the-art, customizable and highly reliable computing support environments, has broken ground on a new build-to-suit data center at its Kings Mountain, North Carolina, campus. Construction of the new enterprise-grade data center follows an exhaustive national search led by Kristina Metzger, Data Center Specialist at CBRE Data Center Solutions on behalf of an unnamed Fortune 50 company.

T5 Data Centers won the competitive bid for this build-to-suit contract after meeting and exceeding the stringent specifications outlined in a comprehensive Basis of Design and RFP. “Following a highly competitive process, T5 was ultimately selected as the right solution based on their extensive expertise in build-to-suit enterprise data centers, the company’s ability to meet and exceed a rigorous set of requirements, and because T5@Kings Mountain proved to be an ideal location,” said Kristina Metzger of CBRE. Ultimately T5 Data Centers will achieve several Uptime Institute Certifications including: Tier III Certification of Design Documents, Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility, and Tier III Gold Certification of Operational Sustainability.

In addition to T5’s design and engineering team having responsibility for the facility’s construction, T5 Facilities Management (T5FM) will be responsible for on-site building operations management and systems support.

“This new contract is a real testament to the discerning customer’s recognition of T5’s expertise and excellence in building and operating true enterprise quality data center environments. We brought a solution to the table that included design and construction expertise, a proven data center location, and best-in-class facilities management capabilities,” said Aaron Wangenheim, Chief Operating Officer for T5 Data Centers.

T5 has been designing and building customized data centers from the ground up for 20 years. The company recently completed a similar project for a tenant at its T5@Portland campus. T5 Data Centers maintains seven data center campuses strategically situated across the country. T5’s Kings Mountain campus has the added advantage of being located in North Carolina, since the state recently passed the North Carolina Competes Act, which includes tax incentives for data center operations, including power and equipment.

T5 Data Centers(TM) Adds a Level 3 Fiber “Point-of-Presence” in the T5@Atlanta Data Center

T5@Atlanta, the Southeast’s premiere multi-tenant data center, now provides its customers direct access to the Level 3 network by way of an on-site Point-of-Presence.

Atlanta, GA, USA (March 25, 2015) — T5 Data Centers™, a provider of Multi-Tenant Data Centers with a portfolio of facilities across North America, today announced global telecommunications company Level 3 Communications, will provide a fiber point-of-presence (PoP) at the company’s “T5@Atlanta” data center. Current and future tenants will have the option to lease direct network access from Level 3 for greater reliability and flexibility.

T5@Atlanta is a purpose-built, Tier III, server-ready data center that features multiple independent data suites occupied by various tenants. Enterprises can take advantage of stronger service level agreements (SLAs), more available bandwidth and better service and support through the new access to Level 3’s highly secure fiber backbone.

“By establishing a PoP at T5@Atlanta we can offer enterprise customers around the country faster, more reliable access to their critical data,” said Brian Dolan, vice president and general manager of Georgia for Level 3. “We recently expanded our network presence in the technology corridor Alpharetta to provide the local to global connection for the more than 600 companies working out of the area.”

One of seven sites across the United States, T5@Atlanta has more than 100,000 square feet under one roof, including 55,000 feet of raised floor, with individual data halls, each separated by slab-to-deck, fire-rated walls for autonomous operation. The data center also has an installed critical IT power load of 6,000 kW, expandable to 9,000 kW and is fed by five separate substations; two of them on Georgia Power’s “Hi-Reli” system for mission-critical users. It’s ideally suited for companies that require secure, dedicated control of their mission critical data operations, such as financial service firms, insurance companies, and health care providers.

“Although we remain a carrier-neutral colocation provider, we want to be able to offer our tenants a choice in telecommunications providers, including direct network access over high-speed fiber,” said Jason Chartrand, Executive Vice President of National Business Development for T5 Data Centers. “This new agreement with Level 3 puts us in a stronger position to serve regional customers with highly reliable colocation services.”

Currently Level 3 is the only network services provider to have a PoP facility on-site.

T5 Facilities Management (T5FM) is the only data center management firm operated by the same organization that owns and operates the finest top tier, state-of-the-art data centers in the United States, providing comprehensive infrastructure support to keep data centers operational 24/7.

With the launch of T5FM, T5 Data Centers is offering the same on-site data center facilities management services available in T5’s own data centers. T5FM is prepared to provide on-site support to any data center operator, bringing the T5 team’s own experience and comprehensive understanding of data center operations from managing T5 Data Center’s seven U.S. locations.

“Creating our own data center facilities management company was a logical next step for T5 Data Centers,” said Mike Casey, COO of T5 Data Centers. “Unlike other facilities managers, we don’t operate apartment buildings or office buildings or other property types – we only operate data centers. That’s our core competency and we want our customers to benefit from our extensive experience managing T5’s own enterprise grade wholesale data centers.”

The T5FM executive management team has more than 100 years of combined experience managing data centers of all kinds. By offering their expertise to other data center operators as a service, T5FM will be able to assist customers in making critical operational decisions and ensuring unparalleled data center uptime through best-in-class service.

T5FM has developed policies and procedures to mitigate our customer’s risk and eliminate operational stress. The cornerstones of T5FM’s service philosophy include:

Safety – T5FM has a custom electrical safety program that follows NFPA 70 guidelines, and all T5FM technicians are certified in OSHA, NFPA 70, and first aid/CPR/AED.

Training – T5FM has developed a customized facility management training program, complete with textbook, portfolio training classes, and online tests. The training program includes details about mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) and fire protection (FP) systems. Training is modified to suit each location.

Process and Procedures – Drawing from T5’s portfolio policies, T5FM has a baseline for all site-specific methods of procedures (MOPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency operating procedures (EOPs). The overarching objective is superior quality control.

Customer Communications – The T5FM team believes in flexibility and transparency and develops streamlined communications strategies to suit each customer’s needs. T5FM also provides visibility into its computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) so customers can track preventive maintenance, alarms, and trouble ticketing.

T5 Data Centers’ T5@LA Data Center Facility Receives LEED(R) Silver Certification

USGCB Awards T5’s Los Angeles Data Center Green Building Certification.

Los Angeles, CA, USA (October 22, 2013) — T5 Data Centers, innovators in providing state-of-the-art, customizable and highly reliable computing support environments for any enterprise, today announced that the company’s T5@LA facility has been granted LEED® Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the third T5 data center to be granted LEED certification and serves as another example of the company’s commitment to maintaining environmentally responsible data centers.

T5@LA was fully commissioned in August 2012 and is a tier III-plus MEP design (mechanical, engineering, plumbing) purpose-built data center located in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport. The building boasts 181,489 square feet under one roof and uses Munters evaporative cooling systems mounted on the roof for a lower PUE (power usage effectiveness). The data center also has its own dedicated onsite power station and is capable of delivering 15.9 MW of critical IT load.

To qualify for LEED Silver certification, T5@LA was built using sustainable materials and is equipped with the latest energy-saving heating, cooling, and lighting systems. The data center has a 40% greater energy efficiency than competing data centers in the region and has an optimal PUE. The building also is located adjacent to the Los Angeles Metro Rail and can be easily reached via mass transit. T5@LA has already started attracting tenants, including a major transportation service operator.

“The lower our carbon footprint, the better it is for our tenants as well as the environment,” said Robbie Sovie, LEED AP, Vice President, Development for T5 Data Centers. “T5 is committed to maintaining green data centers to save our customers operating expenses at the same time we are conserving natural resources. Our goal is to ultimately receive LEED certification for all of our data center facilities as proof of our environmental commitment as green corporate citizens.”

T5’s Data Center’s T5@Atlanta and T5@Dallas facilities are also LEED Silver certified, and T5 anticipates its T5@Kings Mountain, T5@Portland, and T5@Colorado Springs projects will be LEED certified in the near future.

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. More than 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, which represents more than 8 billion square feet of construction space spanning the 50 United States and 120 countries.
