Storytelling Mom and Grandma Creates Children’s Adventure Series

Alyce Joy Rininger is ready to release Ka-Boom, the first in what she hopes to be a series of books about Sprunetta Brunetta, a fairy nicknamed “Sprout” from the fictitious town of Spritesville.

Houston, TX (USA), Tuesday – July 17, 2012 — For decades, Alyce Joy Rininger has been writing and telling tales to her children and now grandchildren. The Ohio woman said she was in grade school when she discovered how much she loved to write. Rininger is ready to release Ka-Boom, the first in what she hopes to be a series of books about Sprunetta Brunetta, a fairy nicknamed “Sprout” from the fictitious town of Spritesville. Ka-Boom will be available through Halo Publishing International.

“I hope every child who reads my stories will look forward to each new adventure as Sprout becomes entangled in many, outrageous happenstances,” Rininger said.

“This is a delightful character and a wonderful story for families to share,” said Publisher Lisa Umina. “Rininger’s book will be enjoyed by many as they fall in love with little Sprout.

The author and her five siblings grew up in Akron, Ohio, where their father worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Rininger graduated from Kenmore High School and found employment at a few different Akron companies before meeting her husband, Arland, at a roller skating rink. The couple owned and operated Valley View Lake Park Recreation Area, a swimming and camping facility, for about 20 years.

The author said her husband encouraged and helped her get a booklet of original prayers published at an Akron-area printer and numerous copies of Priceless Gems were sold. She loved writing so much that she enrolled in a long distance learning course from the Institute of Children’s Literature located in Connecticut. And now, years later, she’s focused on creating a variety of story lines involving Sprout.

“I’m ready to fly,” she said. And, Rininger is again getting plenty of encouragement and help from her family and friends, particularly a daughter and granddaughter who have assisted her with learning new computer skills.

She recently presented Ka-Boom to educators and children in the Highland Local School District near her residence in Sharon Center Township, a rural community west of her hometown.

“This is a charming book that incorporates a magical fairy, adventure and a great message about having a positive attitude,” said Sharon Center Elementary School Principal Connie Marzullo. “This is a perfect bedtime story that is bound to be a real page turner.”

Rininger plans to share Ka-Boom with her high school graduating class who will host a book signing. She also is scheduling book signings at area libraries and schools.

New StuffAlert Website and Improved eBay Alert Service Launched by SonicZero Limited

SonicZero London, England 31st May 2012 is pleased to announce the successful launch of its new upgraded website and improved email eBay alert service that helps increase the probability of buyers finding exactly what is being searched for on eBay.

eBay buyers have been using StuffAlert to locate hard to find items on eBay since 2007. Now, as well as setting up alerts when no matching items are found, users can create email alerts where up to 25 items have been found. A complete record of all the items found matching users searches is automatically created and available to users on the website.

With StuffAlert users can quickly and easily search eBay and set up email alerts for the items they are looking for. StuffAlert continues to search eBay all day everyday and automatically sends email eBay alerts notifying users of new listings with direct links to the item on eBay. Users can manage all their eBay searches and alerts in one place with no cap on how many alerts can be set up and with complete control over email alerts.Passwords are encrypted so only users know what searches they have set up.

“The decision to upgrade the service was made in response to users requests and coincided with a decision to get eBay approval to increase the frequency of our automatic eBay searches. The result has been to deliver more frequent and consistent eBays alerts to our users who in turn are successfully completing more transactions” stated Rene Bachman, Managing Director of SonicZero.

StuffAlert currently works on iPads and other similar tablet devices and should be accessible via smartphone later this year. It is available to eBay buyers using the US and UK eBay marketplaces. Plans are already underway for StuffAlert to be rolled out to other English speaking countries in the forthcoming weeks.

eBay buyers whether newcomers and seasoned users interested in learning more about StuffAlert’s eBay alert service can visit the website (http://www.stuffalert.com) or for more information Contact Us.

U.S. Spanish Children’s Book Sales Climb

Amazon Spain launch and U.S. book sales indicate next big market. November is National Picture Book Month.

Midvale, UT, November 22, 2011 – Publishing is evolving and crossing borders like never before, as is children’s literature. Amazon.com’s recent entry into Spain and the explosion of Spanish-language ebook platforms are indicators of the next big publishing market.

Sales of Spanish language books in the United States demonstrate significant demand–including for children’s literature in Spanish. Bilingual author Karl Beckstrand has seen an increase in demand for his Spanish-language and bilingual picture books and e-books.

This year Beckstrand has had three titles on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” in Spanish list. His Spanish titles outsell the English versions, though most of his titles come with an English/Spanish pronunciation guide. Positive national reviews by the Horn Book blog and ForeWord Reviews don’t hurt either.

During November, National Picture Book Month, Beckstrand expects record sales–not because of the added emphasis–but because, lately, every month is a record sales month. Customers are not all likely to be to Spanish-speakers. It may be that individuals, schools and families agree with Amazon: an additional language is a good idea.

Considering that native Spanish speakers are more common than native English speakers worldwide (the only other native language more common than Spanish is Mandarin, according to Time and Wikipedia), Amazon’s lead should be followed. Beckstrand’s picture books may be a good start.

Premio Publishing has been delighting readers since 2004. Nationally lauded (ForeWord Reviews, Horn Book blog, Midwest Review), our activity picture books–including a cookbook for kids, Spanish/bilingual books with pronunciation guide and English, Spanish or bilingual text, and ebook mysteries–feature minority characters, capture attention and create repeat readers. Distribution via: Ingram, Brodart, Baker & Taylor, Follett/BWI, Amazon, Nook/Kindle/ibooks/Kobo, Premiobooks.com

How Liberating Information Will Transform Our World

MEDFIELD, MA (June 20, 2011) – Innovative, cheap ways to use real-time data plus removing restrictions to it will help companies make better decisions, streamline and improve government, and empower the public, according to “Data Dynamite,” published today.

The book, subtitled “how data will transform our world,” was written by “data dude” W. David Stephenson, and published by Data4All Press. It is available in e-book and print versions.

The book draws parallels between a potential explosion in uses for data if it becomes accessible to everyone and if new tools make it easy to share and understand, and how publishing of new works bloomed after Luther translated the Bible into German so ordinary people could understand it and printed it rather than having monks copy it. Stephenson says legitimate reasons made it hard for government and companies to gather, process, and disseminate data in the past. Technology removed the barriers, but the old “data scarcity” mentality prevails on the part of management and must be ended.

The book calls for a 4-step process to liberate data:

  • apply “tags” to it the first time it is entered, giving data meaning and context
  • distribute it automatically and in real time, when it will be of most use
  • make it available to everyone in an organization – and often outside it – who needs the data (rather than to just a few elites)
  • provide new Web 2.0 tools letting non-technical users analyze and act on data collaboratively.

The book is aimed at senior managers in business and government and at the general public.

“Data Dynamite” details a wide range of pioneering examples of liberating data, including:

  • online medical records
  • an “Internet of Things” prescription jar that notifies your doctor when you take a pill
  • a Mexican concrete company gaining competitive advantage by operating with real-time data,
  • and an online patient community which shares information on their conditions to help drug companies find cures.

It also outlines principles of liberating data, describes characteristics of companies that liberate data, and concludes with a 13-point “Liberating Data Manifesto.” An entire chapter describes the innovative strategies U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra used while he was the District of Columbia CTO.

Stephenson is principal of Stephenson Strategies, Medfield, Ma, and has an international reputation as a consultant and thought leader in both data and Web 2.0 strategies, especially open data and disaster management strategies that empower the general public.

The book is available from all leading e-book sources, and costs $9.99. The print version retails for $16.99 and is available through Amazon and local bookstores.

Free Book, “Fight the Blues as a Black Woman,” to Benefit an Ohio Mental Health Cause

Ohio-based creative writer Tanisha Herrin is releasing a powerful new book, “Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman: How I Survived Suicidal Depression.” The book-her 10th work to be self published-is available for free and will help raise awareness about depression and benefit an Ohio mental health cause.

Akron, Ohio, February. 21, 2011 — Seasoned author Tanisha Herrin is pleased to announce the upcoming release of her new book, “Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman: How I Survived Suicidal Depression.” Although she has nine other self-published books, this will be her first book in the self-help, inspirational genre.

“Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman” is Herrin’s personal perspective on how depression and several suicide attempts almost destroyed her life. It is also a book of inspiration and triumph. Herrin says: “Even though I have been through a lot over several years-being robbed at gun point, three suicide attempts and losing my mother to name a few-I found a way to view my life in a new light. Others who have been through similar downfalls can bounce back to fulfill their life’s purpose.”

Herrin, who is 28 years old, battled depression for 11 years, starting at an early age and continuing through young adulthood. In her book, she poignantly describes her struggles, talks about what may have perpetuated her depression and shares details about the three suicide attempts she had before the unexpected passing of her mother. She also recounts how she used healthy eating, exercise, positive thinking and other strategies to improve her life—not just for herself, but for her children.

Interestingly, “Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman” is not for sale. Instead, people can request a free copy of the book in paperback, ebook or digital format. For each copy of the book that is requested, $1 will be donated toward an Ohio mental health cause via the Nancy A. Herrin Foundation. The non-profit foundation-started in memory of Herrin’s late mother-will donate up to $2,000. “I hope to help raise awareness of how depression can have serious effects on your life if the proper steps aren’t taken to improve your well-being,” Herrin says. “So many people are affected by depression daily that they think it’s normal or okay to be miserable and live an unfulfilling life.”

“Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman” was written for and dedicated to Herrin’s children, who are 6 and 2 years old. “It is possible my children may deal with depression when they get older, and I wanted to set an example for them while hoping to help others.”

Depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year, reports the National Institute of Mental Health. And according to the World Health Organization, depression will be the second-largest killer after heart disease by 2020. These statistics make “Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman” a timely and valuable resource.

The book, which has a bonus section on poetry, has been described by reviewers as emotional and powerful. For instance, Richard Farrell said, “Tanisha Herrin’s latest publication is far more then it sets out to be. This is because it not only charts the personal history of her twenty-eight years, and the lessons learned that she wishes to pass on. It also does this in a tumbling way that made it impossible for me to leave her book alone.” Virginia Gatmaytan described “Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman” as recommended reading for people who are going through depression. She said, “They will certainly be inspired by Tanisha’s journey. It is likewise worthwhile for people who belong to the inner circles of people in despair. They will be guided in extending support.”

The official release date of “Fight the Blues as a Black Woman” is February 23. The book will be available at Amazon.com, Lulu.com and Herrin’s Website at www.therrinpoetry.com. For more information about the book, call 330-258-0053. For details about the Nancy A. Herrin Foundation, visit www.nancyherrinfoundation.org.

The Undergrads Inspires Each of Us to Use Our Talents

Law student Matthew Hebebrand has long been a lover of books (especially comics), storytelling and writing, so for him to now be a published author is not really surprising to his friends and family.

Cleveland, OH, January 22, 2010 — Law student Matthew Hebebrand has long been a lover of books (especially comics), storytelling and writing, so for him to now be a published author is not really surprising to his friends and family.

“I write all the time,” said the 2009 Miami University alumnus who recently released The Undergrads. Originally a writing project for an honors program class at his Oxford, Ohio, college, Hebebrand’s book about a group of students with supernatural abilities and the life-impacting choices they make is available through Halo Publishing International.

Hebebrand said the college life experience is ripe for storytelling and a school campus is the perfect back drop for a story that readers relate to their own educational journeys.

“The Undergrads highlights problems that take place on all college campuses and ways students can solve them,” said the author.

Starting college can be a scary experience, Hebebrand explained. In The Undergrads, 10 freshmen at the fictional Pine State University develop amazing abilities after being exposed to a science experiment gone wrong. When someone else discovers the source of their powers, each student faces a choice about using them and they begin to discover who they really are and the true meaning of friendship.

“Their powers are metaphors for talents,” Hebebrand said. “It is important for each of us to recognize our talents, understand what we are capable of doing, embrace it and use it, preferably for the greater good.” “Parts of my personality are in all of the characters in The Undergrads,” said the writer.

During the past several years, Hebebrand has had opinion pieces published in student newspapers and online. A 2005 graduate of Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio, he plans to return to the school and give a presentation about his book.

“I encourage people to look inside themselves and make a commitment to follow their dreams,” Hebebrand said.

The oldest of Michael and Maria Hebebrand’s three sons, the author grew up in North Royalton, Ohio, near Cleveland. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Miami where he majored in political science and minored in Italian. He studied abroad in Italy, his mother’s native country. He attends the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law while working part-time for the Ziccarelli & Martello law firm.
