FED Publishing Releases New Book, “Cole’s Perfect Puppy, Perfect Puppies Book One” by Frances Crossno

Cole’s Perfect Puppy, Perfect Puppies Book One, by Frances Crossno, is an adorable early chapter book with ups and downs and a happy ending.

Plano, TX, USA — Frances Crossno’s Cole’s Perfect Puppy, Perfect Puppies Book One is a Christian novel intended for young readers who love animals, especially dogs. The story revolves around Cole, his younger brother Caleb, and their new-found friend Rachel who teaches the brothers about friendship, sacrifice, and God’s perfect love. 5 Star Reviews!

I found this to be a great story for early chapter book readers. Cole wants a puppy and has the opportunity to work for one that he has fallen in love with at the mall’s Dog House store. But it’s just not that simple. Both boys and girls will fall in love with Cole, Caleb, Dandy and Scarlet and will look forward to a sequence. Christian values, family, and perseverance are all expressed through this tale. ~Angel Drew – Goodreads

FED Publishing Releases New Book, “100 things I love and hate about losing 100 lbs!” by Angela Hartshorn

100 things I love and hate about losing 100 lbs!, by Angela Hartshorn, shares her thoughts on the trials and tribulations she endured in her emotional rollercoaster of losing weight.

San Diego, CA, USA — Angela Hartshorn’s 100 things I love and hate about losing 100 lbs! is an easy, quick read, loaded with humor and honesty. 5 Star Reviews!

Losing weight is an emotional experience and not all of it is happy. Actually, most of it is not happy. Luckily for me I was able to take the big things that stuck to me and focus on the love and hate of each of those things.

At the age of 36 I was over 225 pounds when I decided I needed to lose weight. I really had no idea how to do it so I just made sure I did not eat every single thing I wanted, and tried to get some exercise. As I changed my lifestyle the weight began to come off and over five years I lost 100 pounds. As I went through this process I noticed there was a lot of things I hated. I found myself not nearly as happy as I thought I would be about losing weight so I began to look at those things I hated in a more positive light. In the end I created a list of 100 things I loved, and hated about losing 100 pounds. I have been able to list these things and add commentary to each one of those things. Humor has always been a coping mechanism for me and this book is a great example of how I approach just about everything in life. Good, and bad.

Author Angela Hartshorn is a 42 year old woman who has been described as a chocolate chip cookie with a dash of Tobasco sauce. She spent over five years losing 100 pounds, and has since successfully NOT kept all the weight off. She takes one day at a time, and has been known to have several months of bad eating at a time, but has been able to keep her weight under control by her own standards. As the 100 goal line was approaching she felt a deep need to share her thoughts with others who may be experiencing the same things. She enjoys spending time with her family, learning new things, and eating cupcakes.

Genre – Honest, Humorous, Weight Loss, Struggle, Love, Hate, Cupcakes, Food, Frustration, Happiness

School Counselor Teaches Resiliency to Combat Future School Shootings

Releases third book called, “Relax”.

Westlake, OH (USA), December 12, 2014 — Middle School Counselor Kasey Kellem says about 50% of the students she works with have problems with anxiety. That’s one of the reasons why she wrote the book “Relax.” Recently released through Halo Publishing International, it’s the third book in a three-part series called “Mind Over Matter” or M.O.M. Geared toward pre-school students, each book teaches a certain characteristic of becoming resilient.

“Everybody faces adversity at some point in life,” says Kellem. “The earlier children learn how to become resilient, the easier it will be for them to deal with the challenges and obstacles that come with life.”

Through her research, Kellem found that teens and young adults are not prepared to handle adversities such as bullying, conflict, divorce, abuse, death and disease, which may occur in their lives.

“This lack of resiliency, I feel, has been the cause of increased school violence and shootings,” says Kellem.

She studied 9 school shootings along with the most recent one at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Almost two years ago to the day, on Dec. 12, 2012, Adam Lanza fatally killed his mother and then shot 20 children and six adult staff members before he took his own life. The troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying who also dealt with disease and divorce.

Kellem’s books teach on the five characteristics of resiliency: 1.Believe that you can get through adversity; 2. Surround yourself with those who love and support you; 3. Take time and find ways to relax; 4. Set goals and follow your dreams; 5. Maintain a sense of humor. She says these characteristics help kids develop social competence, problem-solving skills, critical consciousness, autonomy and a sense of purpose. Kellem says all the students responsible for school shootings dealing back to Columbine in 1999 were missing one or more of these factors.

Kellem says she and her husband both practice the five characteristics of becoming and staying resilient. Currently, she lives with Multiple Sclerosis, while her husband is fighting metastic cancer.

“We live with hope and a positive attitude despite the stressors in our life,” says Kellem. “We are surrounded with loving and supportive people and we look for humor in everyday situations. We still keep busy but find ways to relax each day. Finally, we still believe in our dreams and that we will overcome our challenges. This is what gets us through life.”

You can purchase The Mind Over Matter (M.O.M) books including “Relax” through Halo Publishing. Each sells for $16.95

“These books are also designed to be decorations on bookshelves, nightstands, or desks in a child ´s bedroom or playroom which will serve as constant resiliency reinforcement,” says Halo Publisher Lisa M. Umina.

Think Most Immigrants Eventually Adapt to America? New Memoir Tells of Two Whose Experience Was Bumpy, Funny, and Painfully Poignant

In a world filled with memoirs, “Eat Now; Talk Later” is truly different. Unlike most memoirs, which focus on the tragic and the dysfunctional, “Eat Now” shows the how the telling of family stories builds loyalty, mutual understanding, and kinship.

New York, NY, USA (March 31, 2014) — Ten years ago, author James Vescovi began collecting stories about his unusual grandparents. While they lived in the modern world, their minds remained stuck in a medieval Italian farming culture. The newly published “Eat Now; Talk Later” features 52 hilarious and poignant stories about immigrants in New York who were stumped by telephones, banks, fast food, TV wrestling, and supermarkets.

When Tony and Desolina Vescovi arrived in America in 1929, they collided with the 20th century. They’d been born around 1900 in farming communities where little had changed for hundreds of years. It was up to their only child, a son, to serve as their shepherd, and it wasn’t easy For example, how to explain that his job was taking him and his family 700 miles away when, in their day, sons stayed put to work the family farm? Or that it wasn’t wise to hide $10,000 in the bedroom? Or you needed bring cash to the hospital to pay your bill?

Not only is the subject of the book original, but so is the way it is written. Tony and Desolina’s life is recounted through stories recalling incidents and ideas that reveal their character. Several of the stories have already appeared in print in publications such as The New York Times, Creative Nonfiction, Newsday, and Ancestry Magazine.

“I could never have written a traditional, birth-to-death memoir of my grandparents,” says Vescovi. “They were not famous and did nothing that we might deem extraordinary, like invent a successful product or argue before the U.S. Supreme Court. Instead, like most of us, they lived quiet, anonymous lives. Yet, how do we tell others about remarkable family members-through story.”

Vescovi’s collection-the full title is “Eat Now; Talk Later: 52 True Tales of Family, Feasting, and the American Dream” – began with his father. He traveled around the world as a pharmaceutical executive and he returned home with amazing stories. He was a born storyteller. He also told tales about his childhood with Tony and Desolina in New York, which the author collected. The book also contains a scrapbook of family photos and recipes.

According to Vescovi, the book’s title comes from his grandmother, who disliked conversation during meals. “To her, eating was sacred. Conversing while eating tortellini was like talking loudly during mass. You just didn’t do it.” Vescovi is quick to point out that while the tales have an Italian flavor, they have a universal quality about them. “We all have relatives like my grandparents. Part of my goal in writing ‘Eat Now; Talk Later’ is to encourage people ferret out and collect their own precious family stories.”

Eat Now; Talk Later” is also a book for modern, busy people. Stories can be read before bed, on a lunch hour, or waiting in line. “They can even be shared with friends who complain they have enough to read,” says the author.

New Book: Grace of the Cast off Cross – The Decision is Always Ours

In March of 1942 7,000 American, British, and Dutch Japanese POWs on the island of Java were ordered into camps. Dolf Unger, a Corporal in the Dutch Royal Army was one of these soldiers. Newly married with an infant daughter Dolf was not to see his wife and daughter for over three years. This book is a compilation of articles, letters, and mementoes documenting his camp experiences. Dolf’s story is not just one of survival, but of spiritual transformation.

For Dolf this transformation began one cold fall day when he was forced to shovel scrap metal. In a moment of utter despair; as he cried out silently to God, he kicked a pile of scrap metal. God’s answer came in the form of a perfectly shaped four-inch iron cross, which landed on his boot. Dolf soon became involved in a Christian community in the camp called “The Church Under The Cross”. The spiritual growth and transformation of this community of sick, starving, and often beaten men offers a greater context to Dolf’s own spiritual Journey.

That Dolf’s witness and that of “The Church Under The Cross” speaks so unerringly to the church and culture of our own time hints that God’s providential hand is at work here. It witnesses to the many churches to mired in outdated tradition, and legalistic doctrine to the meet the challenges of a cynical materialistic culture. It also offers a powerful witness to the individual Christian that we can experience the saving, and liberating love of Christ even when our external circumstances seem hopeless.
