Varsity Tutors Expands Operations to San Francisco, Seeking 100 Tutors

Premier tutoring service offering 1-on-1 personalized academic support for K-12 and college students in the Bay Area

St. Louis, MO, June 24, 2013 – Varsity Tutors, the leading private, in-home tutoring service with 25 metropolitan locations, is expanding its operations to another major metro area. As of June 2013, the company has started offering private tutoring services in the San Francisco Bay Area and is seeking 100 talented tutors for part-time roles.

The academic tutoring and test prep provider operates in many large markets including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Houston, and Atlanta. As college admissions has become increasingly competitive, the demand for top tutoring and test prep services, particularly for ACT tutoring, has increased. Varsity Tutors is responding to this demand by further expanding its geographic footprint. In addition to San Francisco, other expansion plans are in the works for the summer of 2013.

The new San Francisco tutoring location will cover the entire greater metropolitan area, including San Jose and Oakland. Expanding to the Bay Area had been on the company’s roadmap for several years as it grew into one of the largest private tutoring companies from its headquarters in St. Louis, Mo. Founder and CEO Chuck Cohn said he expects the Bay Area market to be one of Varsity Tutors’ largest centers of operation with 18 months.

“San Francisco was one of the last major U.S. cities left for us to enter. We are launching in three other major metro areas this summer, but my expectation is that San Francisco will be the largest of those markets for us,” says Cohn. “Expansion into locations where we can match the best tutors with students is key to our growth. We believe that we can offer a higher quality service at a lower cost than the existing tutoring companies in the San Francisco market.”

Varsity Tutors was started in 2007 by Cohn while an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis. The small, college-based business quickly grew into a market leader with 2,000 tutors and 80 employees nationwide. The company’s tutors specialize in a wide selection of subjects including all academic areas of PreK-12, college, and graduate school courses, as well as test prep for entrance exams (SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT). Tutors are chosen not just based on grades and test scores, but also on how effectively they are able to communicate challenging material.

Varsity Tutors’ San Francisco operations is open for business and taking inquiries.

Renewable Home Energy.org Educates and Connects

Renewable energy – if you haven’t noticed, it’s the buzz around the world. We are using an alarming amount of fossil fuels every day; fossil fuels that won’t last forever. Some experts say we will be known as the generation that destroys the earth unless we change our energy behavior now.

“Renewable Energy makes sense from both a financial and a green responsibility” says Todd Sachs, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of www.renewablehomeenergy.org.

“We are committed in educating consumers on how to turn their homes into Renewable Energy Homes. We help by connecting consumers with qualified installers throughout the United States so they can save money on their fast rising energy bills, create more value in their home investment, and join together in reducing dependency on fossil fuels; together reducing the carbon footprint.” Sachs says.

A recent press release from the whitehouse.gov states the following:
“President Obama is committed to an “all-of-the-above” approach that develops all American energy sources in a safe and responsible way and builds a clean and secure energy future. That’s why the President’s plan:

Challenges Americans to double renewable electricity generation again by 2020. In order to double generation from wind, solar, and geothermal sources by 2020, relative to 2012 levels, the President called on Congress to make the renewable energy Production Tax Credit permanent and refundable, which will provide incentive and certainty for investments in new clean energy. Instead of continuing century-old subsidies to oil companies, the President believes that we need to invest in the energy of the future. During the President’s first term, clean energy tax incentives attracted billions of dollars in private investment in almost 50,000 clean energy projects, creating tens of thousands of jobs. Permanent extension keeps the momentum building, while creating new jobs in clean energy.”

Once Americans realize just how possible it is to remove their home from the grid completely and/or partially, many will turn to clean energy sources such as wind, solar and geothermal for home energy systems. Renewable Home Energy (www.renewablehomeenergy.org) just launched last week and is serving-up a great way to connect homeowners with qualified renewable energy installers throughout the entire United States.

Renewable Home Energy is committed to working with local governments, manufactures and installers to help develop affordable ways for consumers to save money with Renewable Energy to remove them from the grid and reduce the carbon footprint by reducing the usage of the finite fossil fuels.

The process is easy. Just click on www.renewablehomeenergy.org and learn about Renewable Energy for your home. You can also complete a form to connect with a Renewable Energy Installer. You will be contacted by qualified installers in your immediate area. They will review your current energy consumption and suggest the best Renewable Energy alternatives for your home.

There are great tax incentives for you to install renewable energy in your home, and great finance options with 4% or less interest rates for up to 10 year terms for qualified buyers.

New Program Launches in June with Subject Matter from the International Facility Management Association

Denver, Colorado, June 05, 2013 – Across America in small towns and thriving cities, a similar issue is cropping up: aging buildings. While older buildings are often respected for their historical nature, there is often a need to update them for structural reasons, aesthetic purposes and even energy usage. In fact, right now The Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) is underway to collect data on the structure, operational characteristics and energy use of 12,000 buildings across the U.S. The data collected is only going to heighten the role of sustainability of buildings, both new and old, around the country.

With new window technology, energy efficiency options, water conservation choices and more, entire cities can improve their sustainability with renovation. Ecotech Institute, the first and only institution entirely focused on green jobs training, is launching its Facilities Management degree in June, which will train professionals to tackle this issue.

Research shows gap between how job seekers view their own employability and what employers value

Bryant & Stratton College Online will host a live online event on July 19 with HR experts from CareerBuilder and top employers like Marriott Hotels and Microsoft to discuss employability and advice for job seekers

Buffalo, NY, June 05, 2013 – Research shows there is a gap between how job seekers view their own employability skills and what employers value. According to a new survey from Bryant & Stratton College Online and Wakefield Research, 80 percent of 18-34 year olds feel they are job ready and possess all the skills, experience, and education needed to advance in their desired career path or obtain their next job. Comparatively, data released by global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company found almost 40 percent of employers attribute the main reason for job openings to lack of skills among entry-level applicants. The research indicates that college students and young employees have inflated assumptions about their own career readiness in today’s job market. To help connect individuals looking for a job understand what employers want, Bryant & Stratton College Online today announced a free career information webinar titled “Job Ready or Not?” as part of its ongoing Employability Series. The event will be streamed live online on July 19 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Other results from the Bryant & Stratton College Online survey show how far out of step young job seekers are from employers. For example, only 16 percent of 18-34 year olds believe improving their soft skills will have the greatest impact on their career advancement. However, a survey conducted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities found 93 percent of employers said soft skills such as critical thinking, communicating clearly and complex problem solving are weighed more heavily in the hiring process than an individual’s undergraduate major. The contrasting data underlines a key oversight for job seekers.

“This event is an opportunity for anyone in the midst of a job search – students, new graduates or people looking for a career change – to hear directly from employers about what factors they consider before hiring,” said Scott Traylor, Associate Campus Director for Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College. “Being employable today is all about knowing how to communicate to employers that you have IQ as well as EQ. Our experts will share useful anecdotes, practical tips and new ideas so attendees will have the best information to make themselves stand out in a crowded marketplace.”

The “Job Ready or Not?” event will feature a panel of hiring and human resources experts from CareerBuilder, Enterprise, Humana, Marriott Hotels and Microsoft. In addition to giving attendees a look into the mind of an employer, the speakers will also offer resume help, practical tips for interview preparation, ideas for using social media in the job search and advice on how to communicate important soft skills during the hiring process. The event will be live streamed for free on July 19 from the Bryant & Stratton College campus in Buffalo, New York between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Those interested in joining online can register at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/employability-summit. A recorded version of the event will be available for download afterward.

“Job seekers need to start marketing themselves based on the skills, competencies and traits employers need and value most,” said Beth Tarquino, Chief Academic Officer at Bryant & Stratton College. “Too often the background experience and soft-skills attributes needed to successfully look for a job are underestimated, especially by college students and new graduates. Searching for a job can become a fulltime job, but putting in the extra work to understand hiring trends and needs of employers is worth it.”

For more information about the “Job Ready or Not?” event and what employers are looking for in job candidates, watch this video.

This event is part of the Bryant & Stratton College Employability Series, a program dedicated to helping students become career-ready upon graduation. By focusing on the development of employability skills, the College purposefully helps students develop technical, industry-specific knowledge as well as soft skills. Varsity Tutors Highlights Relationship Between Education and Income Level in New Infographic

Data Serves as a Resource for Parents and Students in Assessing the Value of College Degree

St. Louis, MO, June 04, 2013 – To help parents and students better understand the value of higher education, Varsity Tutors, a premier one-on-one private tutoring and test prep provider, today released an infographic that delves into the perceived importance and actual effects of higher education on income and career prospects. Entitled “Education vs. Income Level,” the infographic compares educational attainment to U.S. employment and salary statistics.

In 2009, 73 percent of Americans said they agreed with the statement, “In order to get ahead these days, it’s necessary to get a college degree,” compared to just 49 percent in 1978. This increasingly common perception aligns with employment and salary statistics for college-educated adults.

“Data has shown that highly educated individuals are more likely to earn higher wages throughout their lives,” said Varsity Tutors founder and CEO Chuck Cohn. “It’s important for parents and students to understand the value of a college degree when making decisions about their education and future career plans.”

The infographic features survey data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources, including these key facts:

* The unemployment rate for college graduates is well below the national average, and has been consistently lower than the rates of unemployment for individuals without a Bachelor’s degree over the past 10 years.

* In 2013, the unemployment rate for people with a Bachelor’s degree or greater was 3.7 percent, compared to 7 percent for those with some college experience or an Associate’s degree, 8.1 percent for those with a high school diploma, and 12 percent for those with less than a high school diploma.

* Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree are expected to earn $2.422 million over the course of their lives, compared to just $1.371 million for those with only a high school diploma.

The infographic also highlights differences in income among individuals with master’s and doctoral degrees, and compares wages and annual earnings across several career fields from Engineering to Social Sciences. To learn more about the impact of higher education on income, view the full infographic at http://www.varsitytutors.com/blog/education+vs+income+level+in+the+usa+infographic.

Ready for a New Job? Bryant & Stratton College Hosts Career Expo and Job Fair in Akron on June 11

Over 30 area businesses will be in attendance and ready to interview qualified candidates; students and job seekers alike can also receive resume help and polish their interview skills with College experts

Akron, OH, May 29, 2013 – Bryant & Stratton College announced today that it will host a career expo and job fair at its Akron campus on June 11. Over 30 area companies will be in attendance and ready to speak with qualified job seekers. Additionally, campus career experts will be on hand to provide tips on how to improve resumes and interview skills. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 190 Montrose West Avenue.

Campus officials encourage job seekers, especially those interested in the medical and healthcare field to attend. To help attendees prepare for the event, Bryant & Stratton College offers these tips for being successful at a job fair:

* Be prepared – Attendees should bring plenty of copies of their resume for potential employers. Additionally, attendees only have a brief window of time to make a good impression. Preparing a short introduction, also known as an elevator speech, that highlights personal background information, leadership or professional successes and the reason a candidate will be an asset to a company will help quickly grab a recruiter’s attention. “Being able to communicate who you are and what you might bring to a company in under two minutes is a critical skill at a job fair. Attendees will be meeting with several potential employers and you want to be sure to leave a good impression,” said Dr. Florentine Hoelker, Akron Campus Director, Bryant & Stratton College. “Having a couple questions prepared is also a good way to show you will be a thoughtful and proactive employee.”

* Be polished – Looking and sounding professional are critical at a job fair. There is always a chance of being interviewed on the spot at a job fair, so attendees should plan to wear suits just as they would to any other interview. Practicing answers to common interview questions is also helpful and can help attendees communicate confidence.

* Be polite – Companies often meet hundreds of applicants during a job fair so little things can go a long way. Job seekers who say thank you at the end of a meeting or get the recruiter’s business card and send a hand-written thank you note give themselves a chance to stand out among the crowd.

“Job fairs are a great opportunity to meet with several employers in a short amount of time. However, attendees only have one chance to make a good impression, so it’s a good idea to spend time planning for the event,” said Dr. Hoelker. “At Bryant & Stratton College part of our mission is to teach students employability skills and make sure they are career ready upon graduation. This fair and expo is part of that effort. We are very excited to help job seekers connect with prospective employers and get any extra help they need with their job search from our knowledgeable counselors.”

CSU-Global Offers Greater Insight Into Out-Of-Pocket Costs of Degree Completion, Access to Tuition Planners

Colorado State University-Global Campus takes a proactive approach in helping students who use Federal financial aid properly plan for degree completion.

Greenwood Village, CO, May 17, 2013 – Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSUGlobal.edu) today announced that it has implemented an innovative practice to help students better understand the out-of-pocket cost of their education and ensure that they have the funds they need to complete their degrees. New students who use Federal financial aid will now receive greater insight into their borrowing history and have access to Tuition Planners available to provide counseling, guidance and support.

Student loan debt in the United States recently surpassed $1 trillion and as an institution with a mission to help adults complete bachelor’s degrees and earn master’s degrees, CSU-Global has seen many of its recently admitted students bring significant loan debt accrued while attending other institutions. To help inform students of their loan obligations beyond Federal loan best practices and requirements, CSU-Global has notified current students of their borrowing associated with Federal loan limits.

Additionally, all new students who have been accepted for enrollment into CSU-Global and who use Federal financial aid, are being provided a statement which reflects their borrowing to-date and the additional funds that they will need to complete their degrees at CSU-Global. Before taking their first course with CSU-Global, new students who are close to their Federal loan limit receive special counseling that integrates their degree plan needs, less expensive credit alternatives than CSU-Global standard course credit, and information on their loan limit status.

“CSU-Global is focused on adult degree completion as a pathway to workplace success. In the area of bachelor’s degrees, we embrace nontraditional transfer students who might not otherwise be able to optimize their previous course work and complete their degrees as they are able to at CSU-Global,” stated Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker, President of CSU-Global Campus. “Bachelor’s degree transfer students, and some master’s degree students, bring to us their various credits and their Federal loan history which has accumulated over the years to be at or close to their loan limits. We want to help both our current students and those now seeking enrollment at the university to more proactively manage what remains of their Federal loan funds.”

As part of its role as a public non-profit institution, CSU-Global believes that it is has the responsibility to provide transparency in all of its processes and to provide direct and clear communication to its students. The university conducted a review of all of its students to understand their varying paths to successful degree completion and has reached out to those that appear to have insufficient funds for basic tuition and book costs for remaining credit hours.

“CSU-Global is committed to student success in achieving degree completion. Our Tuition Planners will assist students in understanding their financial loan status and provide information on other financial resources or alternative ways to complete their degrees in a financially responsible way,” concluded Ms. Pamela Toney, Senior Director of Financial Services.
