Nutrition Breakthroughs Announces ‘Joints and More’ for Healthy Joints, Energy, More

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, arthritis is the #1 cause of disability among adults. The ingredients in ‘Joints and More’ have been proven to provide natural joint relief, relief for allergies, increased energy and more.

Glendale, CA, July 04, 2014 – An estimated 50 million U.S. adults (about 1 of 5) have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, arthritis is the #1 cause of disability among adults. It is defined as painful inflammation, aching, stiffness and swelling in or around the joints. Arthritis can occur in any joint, but usually it affects the hands, knees, hips, neck or spine. Common limitations from arthritis include difficulty with climbing stairs, walking, lifting, reaching, bending or kneeling.

NutritionBreakthroughs.com of Glendale California is announcing their newest product called ‘Joints and More’, which contains a natural form of sulfur known as MSM. According to research studies, MSM is known to help joint symptoms, muscle soreness, headaches, allergies, hair growth and more by supporting collagen in the cells and reducing inflammation. Collagen is the main protein in connective tissues. The body’s hormones, enzymes and immune system also depend on MSM on a daily basis.

MSM sulfur (methyl-sulphonyl-methane) is a white, odorless, water-soluble element found in nature and in foods such as milk, fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood and meat. Food processing methods such as heating, washing and freezing, all deplete MSM in foods, which makes daily replenishment beneficial. Many people with joint pain may be deficient in MSM. In a 1995 study, sulfur concentration in arthritic cartilage was shown to be about one-third the level of normal cartilage.

The Arthritis Foundation’s web site lists the most common side effects of those medications used to treat arthritis. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen can create edema (swelling of the feet) heartburn, stomach ulcers and possibly increased risk of blood clots and heart attack. Corticosteroids (cortisone) may contribute to cataracts, elevated blood sugar levels, increased appetite and bone loss. Injections at the arthritis site can create redness and swelling and increased risk of infections.

In the breakthrough book called “The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain,” Stanley Jacob, M.D., the co-discoverer and ‘Father of MSM’, and Ronald Lawrence, M.D., share their experiences with successfully treating people with MSM. Together they have treated over 12,000 people with MSM for a variety of conditions at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland Oregon.

Dr. Jacob says: “MSM is a surprising supplement. When you start taking it, you may notice a number of good things happening in your life in addition to pain and allergy relief: More energy, cosmetic benefits such as softer skin, thicker hair, stronger nails; decreased scar tissue; and relief of constipation.”

Ellen N. of Littleton, Colorado says: “I had developed painful arthritis in both knees. The orthopedist prescribed physical therapy, knee braces, ibuprofen daily and an eventual surgery. Someone I know who works for a nutritional supplement company offered me a sample of MSM. I started taking it, I began noticing improvement, and this continued. Soon I had the same spring back in my legs just like before all this started. I was feeling major relief. Now I’m walking faster and even climbed on my roof to trim some trees. I feel like a new woman.”

In one research study, patients suffering from degenerative arthritis were treated with either 2,250 mg per day of MSM or placebo. Sixteen patients were enrolled in the study. With the MSM group, the researchers reported “A better than 80 percent control of pain within six weeks of beginning the study.”

There is no known cure for arthritis. According to Dr. Stanley Jacob, “Steroidal drugs such as cortisone are widely prescribed to reduce the inflammation associated with a wide array of painful conditions. These frequently lead to unhealthy weight gain, high blood pressure and even diabetes…..MSM offers a natural way to reduce pain and inflammation without serious side effects.”

Research shows gap between how job seekers view their own employability and what employers value

Bryant & Stratton College Online will host a live online event on July 19 with HR experts from CareerBuilder and top employers like Marriott Hotels and Microsoft to discuss employability and advice for job seekers

Buffalo, NY, June 05, 2013 – Research shows there is a gap between how job seekers view their own employability skills and what employers value. According to a new survey from Bryant & Stratton College Online and Wakefield Research, 80 percent of 18-34 year olds feel they are job ready and possess all the skills, experience, and education needed to advance in their desired career path or obtain their next job. Comparatively, data released by global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company found almost 40 percent of employers attribute the main reason for job openings to lack of skills among entry-level applicants. The research indicates that college students and young employees have inflated assumptions about their own career readiness in today’s job market. To help connect individuals looking for a job understand what employers want, Bryant & Stratton College Online today announced a free career information webinar titled “Job Ready or Not?” as part of its ongoing Employability Series. The event will be streamed live online on July 19 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Other results from the Bryant & Stratton College Online survey show how far out of step young job seekers are from employers. For example, only 16 percent of 18-34 year olds believe improving their soft skills will have the greatest impact on their career advancement. However, a survey conducted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities found 93 percent of employers said soft skills such as critical thinking, communicating clearly and complex problem solving are weighed more heavily in the hiring process than an individual’s undergraduate major. The contrasting data underlines a key oversight for job seekers.

“This event is an opportunity for anyone in the midst of a job search – students, new graduates or people looking for a career change – to hear directly from employers about what factors they consider before hiring,” said Scott Traylor, Associate Campus Director for Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College. “Being employable today is all about knowing how to communicate to employers that you have IQ as well as EQ. Our experts will share useful anecdotes, practical tips and new ideas so attendees will have the best information to make themselves stand out in a crowded marketplace.”

The “Job Ready or Not?” event will feature a panel of hiring and human resources experts from CareerBuilder, Enterprise, Humana, Marriott Hotels and Microsoft. In addition to giving attendees a look into the mind of an employer, the speakers will also offer resume help, practical tips for interview preparation, ideas for using social media in the job search and advice on how to communicate important soft skills during the hiring process. The event will be live streamed for free on July 19 from the Bryant & Stratton College campus in Buffalo, New York between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Those interested in joining online can register at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/employability-summit. A recorded version of the event will be available for download afterward.

“Job seekers need to start marketing themselves based on the skills, competencies and traits employers need and value most,” said Beth Tarquino, Chief Academic Officer at Bryant & Stratton College. “Too often the background experience and soft-skills attributes needed to successfully look for a job are underestimated, especially by college students and new graduates. Searching for a job can become a fulltime job, but putting in the extra work to understand hiring trends and needs of employers is worth it.”

Innovative Drug Discovery Business, Biosortia Pharmaceuticals, Lands Two Health Care Veterans

Kurt Dieck formerly SVP of Strategy and Business Execution at Cardinal Health, will lead early stage drug discovery business at Biosortia Pharmaceuticals. Dieck was named President and CEO in November 2012 and has quickly identified other key executives, including Dr. Guy Carter, former Natural Product head at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, as his Chief Science Officer. In conjunction, other collaboration partners have joined the team, including NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), NCI (National Cancer Institute) and key universities, to strategically accelerate the development of novel drug leads in the therapeutic areas of cancer, infectious diseases, inflammation and neurological disorders. Biosortia Pharmaceuticals has seen promising early results with dozens of novel compounds having already been requested, and are under evaluation with NCI and Eli Lilly.

Dieck has spent nearly 30 years in healthcare, including 18 years at Arthur Andersen as a global equity partner and then 10 years with Cardinal Health, a Fortune 20 public company, as a senior executive; there he worked with a broad spectrum of partners, including brand pharmaceutical manufacturers, throughout the supply chain. Dr. Guy Carter has over 30 years of experience working in pharmaceutical R&D, primarily in the discovery and development of microbial natural products. He previously was the leader of natural products drug discovery at Wyeth Research, as head of the Chemical Technologies Department.

“Kurt and Guy make a great team. Their complementary Pharma experiences and backgrounds create great opportunities to accelerate Biosortia’s objective to become the premier, aquatic natural products company with a primary focus in drug discovery,” says Ross Youngs, Biosortia’s Founder and Chairman. “Kurt and Guy bring a wealth of research and business experience along with deep industry relationships in building successful Pharma partnerships. Everyone involved with this young biotech is excited about the future.”

Industry observers have commented that late-stage R&D pipelines are not providing Pharma with the desired revenue growth the market is expecting. Therefore, large Pharma is evolving the way it performs R&D in order to optimize efficiency and to boost patent cliff defenses. These changes require shifting from relying solely on in-house chemistry-based R&D to acquiring and licensing external technologies and natural products based compounds in various stages of development. Biosortia’s ability to supply novel, highly active and potent compounds with drug-like characteristics will increase the productivity and success rate for Pharma as well as reduce the overall cost of the discovery process. The cost to discover, develop and launch a new drug is estimated to reach nearly $3B per drug by 2015. Biosortia’s business model is designed specifically to support Pharma’s needs.

“With nearly unlimited microorganisms (3.7 nonillion), the aquatic environment and its consortia represent an extraordinary opportunity…a new frontier, to access extremely potent and chemically diverse secondary metabolites with drug-like properties with unique mechanisms of action never researched before,” said Dieck. In describing the opportunity, Dieck goes on to say, “Biosortia is on the cutting edge of natural product discovery
and has the capabilities to deliver on its aspiration. Our powerful natural products research team, led by Dr. Guy Carter, in partnership with NOAA’s Dr. Peter Moeller, a leader in aquatic natural products research, has the experience and know-how to decipher the complex unexplored environment in a very efficient manner leveraging all the current state of the art instrumentation. The need for more efficient and effective approaches to drug discovery has never been more important. Biosortia’s innovative technologies, deep research skills and key relationships will efficiently provide thousands of unique natural products as candidates for drug discovery at a time when Pharma is in critical need for “high quality shots on goal.”

“Aquatic microbial consortia are a rich source of metabolically active organisms including microalgae, bacteria, fungi and their secondary metabolites,” states Carter. “Owing to the competitive nature of their habitat, chemical investigations of microbial consortia reveal unique structurally diversified natural products that are responsible for signaling and self-defense that have potential as therapeutics with novel mechanisms of action. Since they have been pre-optimized by nature, these compounds are typically closer to a drug candidate than a synthetic lead, thus requiring less optimization and shorter time when found as ‘hits’ in screening programs.”

The team has also focused on agreements with strategic collaboration partners as vital components to the strategy. Biosortia has recently entered into several collaboration agreements with NOAA, Analyticon and exclusive harvesting relationships, just to name a few. Several others will be advanced by the end of January. Biosortia’s cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with NOAA’s Center for Human Health Risk at Hollings Marine Laboratory provides a 5-year framework for research and development regarding the analysis and purification of novel bioactive compounds. According to NOAA’s Technology Partnerships Office, “Success will result in the commercial development of new and unique chemical compounds from the sea which have benefits to human health, either through disease prevention or new treatments for disease.”

Dr. Peter Moeller, NOAA’s Research Scientist who leads the Toxins Natural Products Program stated after analyzing fractions of Biosortia’s biomass, “Coupling NOAA’s mission of characterizing toxins affecting environmental and/or human health with Biosortia’s drug discovery focus turns one man’s toxin into another’s chemotherapeutic. The microorganisms analyzed in the Biosortia biomass identified more unique activity than I have seen in my 30 year career. The volumes achieved from a single harvest delivered an equivalent of 30 years of accumulation. This could materially change the landscape for natural products drug discovery research.”

As of December 31, 2012, Biosortia has identified more than 30 bioactive candidate compounds (hits) from a fresh water eutrophic lake consortium. Therapeutic areas of focus include treatments for cancer, infectious diseases, inflammation and neurological disorders. In addition, more than a dozen of its patent protected compounds are in initial evaluation stage within Eli Lilly’s Open Innovation Drug Discovery Program.

Dieck states, “Looking forward, it is with great optimism. We have a great team built around mutual respect, deep experience, and a desire to succeed and make a difference. We are aligning with the right partners and collaborators to execute our strategy with speed and discipline to provide Pharma with much high quality & diverse compounds vs. “me-too” drugs than they have had in the past 10 years. We are excited about what this company can accomplish, not only for its shareholders but also for the millions of people who have been diagnosed with various forms of chronic diseases who are looking for Pharma to identify better ways to help them extend their lives or live a more productive life. Biosortia can play a big role in identifying compounds that can help Pharma achieve these goals. I am looking forward to the challenge and opportunity to build an industry leading drug discovery company.”

New Research into Impact investing endorsed by AAA

AAA has welcomed news that pension funds in the UK are increasing their exposure to impact investments.

Boston, MA, December 08, 2012 – Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) has welcomed news that pension funds in the UK are increasing their exposure to impact investments.

Research carried out by social investment intermediary Social Finance, found that 48 per cent of the 47 pension funds it surveyed were planning to invest in socially and environmentally sound asset classes, such as microfinance, green energy and social housing over the coming 1 to 2 years.

At the moment, only 23 per cent of the pension funds, with assets under management totalling some $230 billion, hold such investments. AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson spoke on behalf of the alternative investment advocacy group: “We welcome the news that pension funds in the UK are starting to realise the benefits of social investment.”

“Here in the US, institutional investors and individuals alike are all starting to increase their exposure to both alternative investments and impact investments and we wholeheartedly welcome this transition to a more responsible approach to investments.”

AAA also claims that alternative, ethical investments are a great way to diversify an investment portfolio against risk.

Social Finance’s David Hutchison, stated, “Impact investment is a visible asset with clear cash flow, stability and low correlation to other asset classes.”

AAA said it agreed with this, adding that other alternatives, such as forestry and timberland investment through firms like Greenwood Management, which operated sustainable plantation projects in countries like Brazil and Canada – also carry very low correlation with other economic trends. Mr Johnson said, “This means when other asset classes are losing value due to wider economic factors, these alternatives are staying strong.”

Mr Hutchison added that the next step in encouraging impact investing is setting up diversified, larger funds, to ensure people can get involved without putting up hundreds of thousands of dollars in initial investment. This will allow more individuals to get involved with this ethical side of investment.

FRA claims Romania is increasingly Attractive to Ethical investors

The latest economic figures to come out of Romania show that the country’s forestry sector is bucking the overall trend for recession, by growing by more than 4 per cent.

Bainbridge Island, WA, July 13, 2012 – The latest economic figures to come out of Romania show that the country’s forestry sector is bucking the overall trend for recession, by growing by more than 4 per cent. Forestry Research Associates (FRA) claims that this news will attract more foreign investment into the forestry industry in Eastern Europe.

FRA, a research and analysis organization, is a keen advocate of sustainable forestry projects and believes that investing in forestry can be a great way of diversifying a portfolio. “Forestry has a low correlation with equity markets and can also be a good option to offset inflation,” stated FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins.

In the first quarter of 2012, Romania’s GDP fell slightly, indicating the country is in recession, following a period of growth in 2011. However, the figures released by the country’s Statistics Institute, show that the forestry industry grew by 4 per cent. The growth in the forestry market and the fact that most analysts believe that the current slump is just a blip, means that foreign investors are likely to remain interested in Romania.

“Ethical investments, such as investing in plantation and sustainable forestry projects all over the world, are proving much more popular following the global economic crisis.

“We believe that countries like Romania will begin to attract more and more investment from foreigners in the coming year or so,” added Mr Collins.

Bogdan Ion, Ernst & Young’s managing partner, told Romanian Business Insider: “We see more and more investors attracted by the renewable energy sector. More privatizations are planned in the future, encouraging investors worldwide to look to our country.”

FRA supports a number of forestry projects run by firms like Greenwood Management in Brazil and elsewhere. “Investing in plantations is a good way to gain something tangible in exchange for your cash and can also help to prevent deforestation,” concluded Collins.

FRA says British Columbia seeing signs of Timber industry uptick

FRA has welcomed news that timber producers in British Columbia, Canada, are slowly returning to profitability after major damage from Pine Beetles over the past few years.

Bainbridge Island, WA, May 15, 2012 – Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has welcomed news that timber producers in British Columbia, Canada, are slowly returning to profitability after major damage from Pine Beetles over the past few years.

The news has come courtesy of industry analysis from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The firm has recently held its Global Forest and Paper Industry Conference in Vancouver, outlining how the industry is seeing a return to its previous good fortune.

The analysts claim that the industry in the region is set to return to profitability by the end of this year or early next year. A spokesperson for PwC said, “It’s a combination of events driving it, but it’s probably a long, slow process rather than a big bang.”

“The trend is in the right direction,” he added. FRA is a research and analysis consultancy specialising in forestry and timber investments. It’s analysis partner, Peter Collins explained, “We have always had faith in Canada’s forestry industry because the demand for timber just keeps growing.”

He added, “Emerging economies such as China and India, are demanding more and more raw materials to allow them to continue to grow. Meanwhile, the US real estate market is picking up and more houses will need to be built, using timber, in the coming months and years.”

FRA claims that all this will lead to an increase in the demand for timber while a shortage in supply keeps prices growing. It is this trend that also leads FRA to support forestry investments as a good option for those who are looking for a way to diversify their investment portfolio. “Investing in plantation projects, such as the sustainable teak and eucalyptus plantations run by firms like Greenwood Management, can bring balance to a portfolio while generating very healthy returns for anyone interested in alternative investments.”
