Lineworkers from FPL and Other Utilities Honored By State

Seth McKeel of Lakeland, reading from an honorary resolution that designated August 26 as “Lineworker Appreciation Day” in the State of Florida.

Tallahassee, Fla. – March 2, 2012 — Judging from the scene outside the Florida Capitol on March 2, 2012, you might have thought that lawmakers were facing a serious power outage – with bucket trucks and hard hat-clad lineworkers gathered by the dozens. But quite the contrary, lawmakers had invited utility employees from across the state, including many from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to recognize them for their outstanding service.

“The hardworking men and women of Florida who risk their lives daily in extremely dangerous situations to ensure the reliable delivery of electric energy to all citizens of the state are most deserving of gratitude, appreciation and honor,” said State Rep. Seth McKeel of Lakeland, reading from an honorary resolution that designated August 26 as “Lineworker Appreciation Day” in the State of Florida.

McKeel was motivated by Tracy Moore, wife of former Lakeland Electric Lineman Marc Moore, who died in an unfortunate accident several years ago. Tracy has been working to keep her husband’s memory alive by honoring lineworkers who respond to emergencies and often work in harm’s way to restore power for Floridians.

Lineworkers from many Florida utilities converged on Tallahassee for the announcement. FPL was represented by five North Florida employees – Distribution Supervisor Danny Dean, Sr. Line Specialist Bob Harrison and Restoration Specialists Corey Koshinski, Wes Richardson and Otis Smith.

“We came to show support and respect for our colleagues across the state,” said Dean. “While safety is always our top priority, there’s always an element of risk involved in our jobs, but we take a great deal of pride in serving the people of Florida. It’s an honor to be recognized for the work that we do.”

The line specialists were joined by several members of FPL’s Tallahassee office, who turned out to support their fellow employees.

“It’s important for all of us to honor the vital work that our line specialists perform every day to ensure our customers have safe, affordable, reliable electricity,” said Paul Hamilton, FPL Vice President of State Legislative Affairs. “They’ve got tough jobs, and we’re proud that the state is recognizing the work they do.”

AAA has welcomed support for ethical investments from the director of Emerald Knight, Robert Hague.

Boston, MA, March 02, 2012 – Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) has welcomed support for ethical investments from the director of Emerald Knight, Robert Hague.

The alternative investment advocacy group has spoken out in support of Mr Hague’s assertions that just because an asset class is ethical, does not mean it won’t produce some very healthy yields for investors.

Emerald Knight was initially launched as a provider of ethical investments with the ethos that investing in sustainable, ethical projects can also generate healthy returns. Mr Hague stands by this claim in his recent statement to the press, where he said, “This may sound obvious but many people don’t know, or are just not interested in what happens to their money once they’ve put it in their bank or pension.

“Going down the SRI route allows you to choose exactly how your cash is being invested and what difference it’s making,” he added.

He added that many of those who have invested in ethically, environmentally or socially responsible funds, projects or markets have often see their investment generate better returns that if they had invested in traditional asset classes.

AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson, agrees with Mr Hague, adding, “There is simply no validity in the argument that you can’t make money by investing in ethical projects or making socially responsible investments.”

AAA claims that it is no longer unusual for investors to look for ethical investments as, with the increase in interest in alternative investments, there has also been a general increase in interest in ethical options as the two things often come hand in hand.

A popular option for ethically minded investors is forestry investment, which can help to support sustainable approaches to forestry all over the world, and particularly in emerging economies. Writer Inspired on Facebook to Publish New Peace Book

Columbia, SC (USA), March 02, 2012 — When Cynthia Legette Davis ( http://www.peaceinus.net ) began posting inspirational messages for her Facebook friends in 2010, little did she know the posts would wind up as a book. But that’s exactly what happened. The inspirational Facebook posts now make up Davis’ newest book entitled, Peace Tips for Life, and subtitled, Ideas and Inspiration for Personal Peace.

“I originally wrote the messages for myself,” Davis says. “Although they were initially for my spiritual growth and benefit, I always knew they were meant to be shared to also encourage others. I thought, ‘What better way than on Facebook?”’

Davis says she began posting the messages as “peace tips”—ones she had written over the years and new ones she wrote that year—on her Facebook page. She did that three to five times a week throughout most of 2010.

Along the way, she started a Facebook group entitled “Peace in Us,” through which to better share the peace tips with interested Facebook friends. Within less than two weeks, nearly 500 people had joined the group. Within a few months, the “Peace in Us” group had grown to more than 1200 people who wanted to receive the peace tips.

“Throughout that year, I received so many messages from my Facebook friends saying how much the peace tips meant to them and encouraged them,” Davis says. “By the end of that year, I was inspired to compile them into a book. I knew a book would enable me to share the peace tips with even more people in a bigger way.” Davis says she doesn’t know if she would have compiled the peace tips into a book had it not been for the encouragement she received from her Facebook friends.

Peace Tips for Life was recently published as a gift-sized book packed with nearly 200 thought-provoking inspirational messages for people seeking more peace and balance in their lives. Davis says many of the ideas are not necessarily new, but offer different insights and perspectives on familiar ideas about personal peace.

“I believe we know deep inside what to do in life to have peace. God is constantly revealing it to us, but sometimes we’re too busy to hear or sometimes we simply forget,” Davis says. “Peace Tips for Life is, therefore, a book of reminders—inspirational memory joggers for us all.”
