Rosendin Electric Receives Photovoltaic Project of Distinction Award for Groundbreaking Arizona Western College Solar Project

Leading Electrical Contractor Honored by SEPA and SEIA at PV America West 2012.

SAN JOSE, CA (March 24, 2011) — Rosendin Electric (http://www.rosendin.com), one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and a 100% employee-owned company, was awarded one of three PV Project of Distinction Awards presented by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) for the design and construction of an innovative solar array at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona. The PV Project of Distinction Awards recognize major accomplishments in the U.S. solar energy industry and were presented at the PV America West conference held this week.

The award is in recognition of the 2011 installation of a five-megawatt solar power system for Arizona Western College. Rosendin Electric served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the project. Main Street Power Company, Inc. was the solar financier, PPA Partners was the developer, and Arizona Public Service (APS) was the local utility.

The award-winning project included five one-megawatt sites positioned around the campus using concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) panels from SolFocus Inc. and GreenVolts, Inc., Thin Film panels from Sharp Solar, Mono Crystalline panels from SolarWorld AG, and Poly Crystalline panels from Suntech. Utilizing single-axis trackers from OSolar and dual-axis trackers from SolFocus and GreenVolts allows the panels to continually align their position with the sun in order to maximize generation of electricity. This is the first time that these five components have been combined into a utility-grade array.

The system was designed by Rosendin Electric to produce enough electricity to meet all of the campus’s daytime power needs. It is estimated that the new solar array will save the college $40 million over the next 30 years through the college’s purchase agreement with Main Street Power. The project also serves as the basis for a demonstration system for researchers and a new course of study for students. The curriculum will include a Certificate of Renewable Energy degree program, and hands-on educational support for workforce training and continuing education programs.

“This was an innovative solar project and we are delighted to receive such a prestigious industry award as recognition for our design-build work,” said David Lincoln, Division Manager, Solar Operations, for Rosendin Electric. “Arizona Western College gave us a real challenge and with the help of our partners, the end result was a groundbreaking project that will not only save AWC money in energy costs, but will also help the students shape the future of the solar industry.”

ManagePLUS Gold™ lets QuickBooks Users Allocate Overhead Expense with Drag-and-Drop Ease…and Spreadsheet Accuracy

The new release of ManagePLUS Gold™ for QuickBooks, from Flagship Technologies, Inc. (www.goflagship.com) lets users allocate expense from cost- and support-center classes and accounts to profit center classes, using a visual drag-and-drop approach.

Many businesses and nonprofit organizations use the classes feature of QuickBooks to track revenue and expense for the departments or activities of the organization—its cost centers, support centers, and profit centers, such as Office and Administration, Packing & Shipping, or Manufacturing. They set up classes to represent these, and apply those classes when entering transactions to identify income and expense with specific departments or activities.

This is all part of a cost accounting technique known as activity-based costing (ABC), the goal of which is to determine whether each income-producing area of the business—each profit center—is profitable. To get this done, the “overhead” expense accumulated for the organization’s cost centers must be allocated among profit centers on some reasonable basis.

Using QuickBooks by itself, allocation is anything but simple. It requires making journal entries or using “zero-dollar checks”, and there’s no way to automate the calculations involved. In fact, most users export transaction totals from QuickBooks to a spreadsheet, do the allocation calculations there, then manually enter the results as journal entries in QuickBooks. The entire process is difficult and offers plenty of opportunities for making errors.

ManagePLUS Gold overcomes all of these problems. With a couple mouse clicks, it retrieves transactions from QuickBooks and totals the amounts available for allocation from each class to other classes. Users then build allocation formulas visually by dragging a class onto the other classes to which it will be allocated. (The allocation formulas can be re-used in subsequent accounting periods, so the job is even faster and easier the next time.)

Because accuracy is just as important as ease of use, ManagePLUS Gold supports allocation based on “management quantities” the user has associated with individual classes, as well as on a percentage basis. Management quantities can be any physical or dollar amount related to the activity–things like labor hours, tons/gallons/bushels produced, miles driven, dollars of direct expense, etc. The result is spreadsheet-like allocation capability but without building spreadsheet formulas, exporting accounting data, or making journal entries.

Once allocations have been built, with a couple more mouse clicks the user can prepare a profit and loss report for any class, showing direct revenue and expense as well as the amounts that have been allocated to it.

But that’s not all. The new version 3.1 of ManagePLUS Gold adds the ability to send allocation transactions to QuickBooks, with a single click of the mouse. So now users can choose whether to get class profitability reports in ManagePLUS Gold or in QuickBooks, and have the option of doing anything with the allocation journal entries that they can do with other QuickBooks transactions—create customized reports, export them, include them in backups, etc.

Allocation capabilities are the “tip of the iceberg” with respect to ManagePLUS Gold’s features. Here’s a few of the other things it does:

    – Lets users associate “extra” data with accounts and classes, and manages that data separately for each accounting period.

    – Uses the “extra” data to automatically add management information and per-unit statistics to reports—things like average cost per unit of sales or per unit of production for each class.

    – Provides advanced quantity handling and storage in QuickBooks transactions by supporting entry of two quantities per transaction, such as the weight and count of items bought or sold.

    – Provides specialized reporting capabilities for the two-quantities feature, including automatic statistics like weight per each, count per weight, cost per weight (pound/ton/etc.), and cost per each.

    – Supports advanced, automatic unit of measure labeling on reports.

ManagePLUS Gold sells for $149 per single-user license and is compatible with Microsoft Windows versions of the Pro, Premier, and Enterprise editions of QuickBooks, 2004 and later, including U.S., UK, and Canadian releases. A 30-day free trial is available to download from the product’s Web page: http://www.goflagshipcom/products/mphome.htm.

SAFE International Launches Columbia Women’s Self Defense Parties – Columbia, MD Self Defense

SAFE International is expanding its seminar options to include women’s self defense parties in Columbia, MD.

Columbia, MD, March 22, 2012 – (Straight Line PR) – Columbia Self Defense, SAFE International Launches Columbia Women’s Self Defense Parties.

SAFE International ™ is a leading provider of mobile self defense/personal protection training in North America. SAFE International has taught more than 150,000 clients in the private, corporate and high school environments since 1994. SAFE International is expanding its seminar options to include women’s self defense parties in Columbia, MD.

SAFE International quickly realized that women had completely different concerns, fears, and needs than males. Chris Roberts, CEO of SAFE International listened to their concerns and tailored something that was not only educational, but also met their personal fears. Men have no idea what women go through on an everyday basis from the stares and comments to the physical gestures and advances.

One of the reasons that SAFE International enjoys teaching women’s self defense Columbia, is how receptive women are to the skills that the SAFE International instructors provide. SAFE International teaches self defense concepts, rather than techniques. This allows women to learn in a much shorter time. SAFE International always covers Awareness and Avoidance strategies which are based on one’s daily routines.  We examine what an attacker looks for, what an attacker wants and doesn’t want in confrontation. One of the biggest topics we explore is how most people are too polite, even when their intuition is telling them the complete opposite. We cover the most common distraction techniques an attacker will use to gain an advantage. We then move on to verbal strategies in the event that avoidance is no longer possible. Rather than just teaching to yell at a potential attacker, we cover a few verbal strategies based on the aggressor and the scenario.  The third step is addressing the physical aspect of Columbia women’s self defense. We begin with the advantages of adopting a passive stance rather than an aggressive stance. We only teach gross motor strikes due to the adrenal rush one gets when they are in a highly stressful state such as an attack scenario.  We teach a philosophy of “Attack the Attacker” which reverses one from being the Prey, to that of being the Predator. Another philosophy is to attack the head if all avoidance and verbal strategies have failed. This is only 30 minutes into the physical training and you can see how the self defense concepts are very effective. The self defense drills increase with intensity as the participants gain more confidence. It is important to build rapport with your students and the results will be seen as the drills progress. The following YouTube video shows how much can be learned in only 30 minutes of women’s self defense instruction.

Forget Tupperware Parties!
Invite 6 to 8 of your friends for a few hours of fun, education and potentially life- saving instruction. Plan a meal, bbq, snacks, maybe some dessert! Be prepared for a unique Columbia Women’s Self Defense experience! What has made SAFE International so popular is their unique method of teaching with humour and sharing of anecdotes. Get to experience their simulated attacks in scenario specific situations such as at the front door, the kitchen, the car, etc.

SAFE International has taught more than 150,000 clients including mothers, fathers, daughters, police officers, seniors, and people with disabilities.
