Renowned eLearning Expert Jay Cross to Headline April 30 Learning Techniques Webinar by Harbinger Knowledge Products and Raptivity Software

Harbinger Knowledge Products, a global leader in interactive eLearning, presentation and website software, announced today that renowned eLearning expert Jay Cross will headline the company’s free learning techniques webinar, “Making Learning Stick,” April 30 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.

Cross has been called the Guru of Informal Learning and is credited with originating the term eLearning. He is the CEO of the Internet Time Alliance, which helps corporations and governments use networks to accelerate performance. Cross has challenged conventional wisdom about how adults learn since designing the first business degree program offered by the University of Phoenix.

The 60-minute “Making Learning Stick” seminar is designed for anyone responsible for course development and instruction learn innovative techniques that will help students retain knowledge better and enhance their performance. Instructors and course designers in the educational arena, government sector and the corporate world are invited to attend.

According to Cross, as much as 85 percent of what a student learns in the traditional classroom environment is forgotten before it is ever put into practice. “The tragedy of the way many of us were taught for years in school is that you really can’t remember any of it – geometry, Latin, history – after you leave school,” he said.

Part of the problem, Cross said, is that the information was that curriculum was taught in age-old methods more appropriate for training soldiers than students and professionals. And knowledge was retained just long enough to pass a test, but not reinforced and used again in our everyday lives.

So how do you make sure students carry the knowledge home and continue to use it?

In the “Making Learning Stick” webinar, Cross will describe and demonstrate ways to increase knowledge retention and promote memory recall through a variety of innovative techniques and concepts, including informal and formal learning, experiential learning, interactive workscapes, reinforcement, push vs. pull learning, and memory experts’ tricks.

Cross will give an in-depth view of these effective learning techniques and share tips on how instructors can implement them easily into the learning environment.

There will also be a demonstration of Raptivity, the award-winning do-it-yourself eLearning interactivity builder, to show how course designers and instructors can use variety of interactions for memory recall and knowledge retention.

“Using interactive elements in course material has proven to be one of the best ways to truly engage students, keep their attention and help them retain information,” said Seema Chaudhary, president of Harbinger Knowledge Products.

“Raptivity software allows course developers to quickly and easily create engaging learning interactions, including games, simulations, brainteasers, interactive diagrams, virtual worlds and many more.”

During the webinar, there will be a “Best Tips for keeping memories alive” contest for attendees with a variety of prizes, including Jay Cross’ books and Raptivity software.

EssentialSkillz Launch New Online E-Learning Solution Including New Rapid Authoring Tool

EssentialSkillz,a global E-Learning solutions expert, will be launching the new E-Learning suite, O-LAS, at the Learning Technologies show at Olympia 2 in London on the 26th and 27th January 2011.

This unique suite of tools has four modules that can work together or independently. O-LAS LMS , O-LAS Author, O-LAS Assess and O-LAS Content combined create a unique and unrivalled online E-Learningsystem with the power and flexibility of systems many times more expensive.

Each element of the O-LAS suite has its own unique functionality.

O-LAS LMS. This powerful LMS is the core of the suite. A SCORM compliant LMS, it features powerful reporting and tracking along with the ability to use the content library from EssentialSkillz, SCORM content created with O-LAS Author, or third party SCORM content. Hosted online, it provides a low cost and worry free solution for businesses. As a scalable solution, it is also perfect for large or small organisations and for companies that will need to expand their LMS solution as they roll it out.

O-LAS Author. Powerful E-Learning authoring tools can be complex to use and require highly trained content developers. O-LAS Author is a rapid authoring tool that has been designed to enable almost anyone in your organisation to create and publish E-Learning courses. Simple to use, yet powerful enough to create engaging, immersive training, you can leave course creation down to the people that really know the subject rather than a developer. O-LAS Author can be used with O-LAS LMS to enable you to roll out your new course, or, if you have an existing SCORM LMS, you can export the courses from O-LAS Author.

O-LAS Assess. Online assessment is essential for many organisations. Whether the assessment is Health and Safety related, HR related or company specific, you can create comprehensive assessments using O-LAS Assess. Uniquely, O-LAS Assess will create user prompts if there is advice that can be given during the assessment; for example helping to reduce risks. Combined with O-LAS LMS, you can create a curriculum of online activity including training created in O-LAS Author and Assessments created in O-LAS Assess plus any third party SCORM content that you wish to include.

O-LAS Content. Offering a broad range of training courses in either Health and Safety or Employment Law, O-LAS Content is a comprehensive library of SCORM courses that you can deploy with O-LAS LMS or your own LMS. Using O-LAS Content combined with O-LAS Author, you are able to edit and amend the courses to suit your own business requirements.

Ryan Pavey, Sales and Marketing Director at EssentialSkillz commented, “We have been working tirelessly to create an end to end integrated E-Learning solution and we are proud to be bringing what I believe is a market leading solution to the Learning Technologies show. We have a dynamic LMS, simple yet powerful rapid authoring tool, unique assessment functionality and a broad library of our own content – I don’t know of any other company offering a comparable solution.”

EssentialSkillz will be at the Learning Technologies show from the 26th to 27th January on stand 125.
