Vendange Carmel Inn & Suites Partner With Monterey County Wineries

To Offer Unique Wine-Themed Experience In The Heart Of Carmel

Carmel, CA, November 24, 2014 – When Brian and Jonathan Lee sought inspiration around the transformation of their family’s Carmel inn a few years ago, they looked no further than Monterey County’s Wine Region.

In 2013 Wine Enthusiast magazine bestowed the county as the top wine destination in the world. In the article, writer Steve Heimoff hailed the region’s “beautiful scenery, upscale galleries, glamorous resorts and stellar local wines.”

Faced with a major renovation and re-imagination of the property the Lees once owned but sold seven years ago, the answer became obvious: Name the inn Vendange (French for “vintage”), capitalize on its supreme location, design everything around a wine theme and create two stunning, fully equipped barrel rooms” for traveling families or couples.

“After we sold the property it really declined, and passing by it was difficult for our family,” said Jonathan Lee. “We wanted to modernize it and make it beautiful again, but also we knew we wanted to make each suite on our property a reflection of Monterey County’s flourishing wine industry.”

The Lees had the idea to partner with local wineries, especially those with tasting rooms in Carmel (currently there are more than two dozen tasting rooms, wine bars and bottle shops in the village, and the Carmel Wine Walk is thriving).

The wine-centric idea was to have wineries “adopt” a room at Vendange, putting their personal stamp on the furniture and décor. Each suite now provides a romantic ambiance of luxuriousness and charm.

“It took some time to get our ideas across to local wineries (Twisted Roots came on board first), but once they completed their suite, and the wineries could visually see the ideas we were striving for, the rest took off from there.”

Following the lead of Twisted Roots were: Galante, J. Lohr, McIntyre, Dawn’s Dream, Joullian, Ventana, Manzoni, Tudor, Cima Collina, Holman Ranch and Blair.

The novel idea allows the wineries to reflect their own style and statement through the rooms, while Vendange allows the wineries to use the rooms for clients or wine club members to create valuable cross-promotion.

“For us it creates a cachet and makes it a unique experience,” Lee said.

The family also created the two adjoining “barrel rooms,” designed ideally for couples rooms to create a relaxed “hang-out” experience. Each room is more than 900 square feet, with separate bedrooms, radiant floor heating, private patios, personal entrances and parking spaces. One room comes equipped with a high-end kitchen, complete with granite countertops, Viking appliances and all the comforts of home.

Whether it’s a walk around the manicured gardens, or quiet conversation and complimentary wine and cheese tasting around the fire pit under a lighted pergola, guests at Vendange find themselves pampered in an intimate environment with expert, attentive service.

Nestled beneath the pine trees in a tranquil neighborhood, Vendange Carmel Inn & Suites is one of the few inns in Carmel to provide parking. Located just a short walk from Carmel’s legendary downtown, visitors can absorb a complete wine experience in and out of their suites.

Lee points out that “vendange tardive” means “late harvest” in French. The phrase refers to a style of dessert wine where the grapes are allowed to hang on the vine until they start to dehydrate, concentrating the sugars.

“It fits because we want guests to come here, rest and get sweeter for the next day,” he said.

High season in Krabi, Thailand to be record-breaking as new flights and accommodations abound

High season in Krabi, Thailand to be record-breaking as new flights and accommodations abound Krabi, Thailand’s popularity has grown so much in the past few years that pundits are predicting this year’s high season (November-April) will be record-breaking. As a result, airline companies and the hospitality industries are ramping up their offers.

Krabi, Thailand, October 13, 2014 — For years, Phuket, Thailand was the darling of tourism on the western shores of the Andaman Sea. Because of too much growth too fast, it became unpleasantly over-crowded and hectic. Krabi was the perfect alternative, with its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, fewer crowds, plentiful activities and extraordinary attractions.

A Relaxing and Refreshing Vacation Destination

Krabi Province, located on the southwest mainland coast of Thailand on the Andaman Sea is comprised of several districts. Archaeological evidence shows humans inhabited the area 25,000-30,000 years ago. Its colorful history includes pirates, merchants and sea gypsies.

Visitors looking for a secluded beach have no trouble locating one on from the approximately 132 inhabited and uninhabited islands. Tourists can participate in a number of water-related activities, including kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving, shipwreck diving, sea cave exploration and fishing. The coral reefs are beautiful, and the sea is filled with exotic marine life.

The numerous and towering limestone cliffs draw rock climbers from around the world, with different levels of difficulty available, including climbs for beginners. Attractions include wildlife sanctuaries, natural hot springs, national parks, Buddhist shrines and temples, kickboxing matches, snake handling, shopping and more.

Travelers’ Demand Equals Additional Airline Routes
Before Krabi began to grow in popularity, most of the tourists came from Scandinavian countries and Europe. With positive economic changes in Asia, many travelers started coming from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and China, yet flights were few and far between. Recently, however, the airline industry has responded with a host of new routes and flights to Krabi.

In addition to their flights from Singapore and Bangkok that began last year, AirAsia just introduced a new round-trip route that flies between Guangzhou, on mainland China, and Krabi.

Malaysian Airlines, Bangkok Airways, and Tiger Airways have all increased the number of flights to and from Krabi, while the number of charter flights from Europe, Russia and Australia is also growing.

Krabi Nakharin Hospital, Krabi’s New First-Rate Medical Facility
Those travelers who fear that there are no advanced care medical facilities in Krabi can now rest easy. Krabi Nakharin is Krabi’s newly opened advanced-care hospital, rivaling the sterling reputation of the medical facilities in Bangkok. Knowing top-notch medical care is locally available is of great importance to older retirees and those planning extended vacations in Krabi.

The Growing Krabi Hospitality Industry
Just as there has been a need for additional airline flights to Krabi, there has been a need for more accommodations to house the growing number of visitors. With a lot of new construction, the hospitality industry has grown to be able to accommodate all the travelers coming to Krabi.

There are many different types of accommodations from which to choose: hostels, guesthouses, budget inns and hotels, boutique resorts, bed and breakfasts, and private villas. Big hotel consortiums, like the Ibis Styles Hotel with its newly opened 206-room facility, are coming to Krabi.

Krabi Beach House, New Rental Villas Offered by Krabi Riviera
Krabi Riviera Co., Ltd. is a well-established villa management and construction company in Krabi, Thailand, specializing in private luxury vacation homes. With the expected record-breaking high season and increased tourism, the company recently completed six new villas.

The Krabi Beach House is one of their newest editions. With enough accommodations to house 8-10 guests comfortably, it is the perfect holiday rental for a family reunion, a wedding, or a friends’ get-together.

Situated on a private beach, the villa has four individual, air-conditioned suites. All were built around the central living areas: a lounging TV/media room, a dining room, and open-air living space, providing maximum privacy and quiet.

The outdoors complements the beauty of the interior, with a private saltwater swimming pool surrounded by a deck that leads down to the landscaped gardens and the beach. Guests can use one of the villa’s two kayaks to paddle over to nearby Railay Beach, or arrange with the on-site concierge to have a longtail or speedboat pick them up at their private beach and take them to their desired location.

Pierre Yves Loriers, Managing Director of Krabi Riviera Villas said, “Krabi Beach House is the ultimate in private luxury villas. With its own fully equipped kitchen and beautifully appointed home sitting on a private beach, surrounded by lush gardens fronting the Andaman Sea, guests think they have found paradise on earth.”

As with all of Krabi Riviera’s other properties, the Krabi Beach House has wireless Wi-Fi Internet throughout the property, as well as 24/7 security.

The tourist industry is very excited about the coming high season, and all involved are prepared to ensure that travelers to Krabi have a memorable experience.

Set Sail in Style with All-Inclusive Luxury Cruising

Vietnam’s first five-star all-inclusive cruise in Nha Trang Bay – Fit for an Emperor

Hanoi, Vietnam, September 28, 2014 – The project was started in September 2014 and the first sailing is expected to be in the summer of 2015. The participants include Luxury Travel Ltd with the high-end cruise company, Huong Hai Ha Long Ltd.

One of the 29 most beautiful bays in the world, with miles of long, beautiful white-sand beaches and warm water, year-round green tropical islands and parks, rivers, typical fishing villages, special culinary characteristics and gorgeous seafood… Just some of the highlights of Nha Trang that appeal to seasoned holidaymakers.

Indeed Nha Trang Bay is a natural world of sparkling sea, marine life and islands waiting to be explored in style. Emperor Cruises (www.emperorcruises.com) combines oriental style with contemporary luxury. Together these create the perfect recipe for exploration, luxury adventures, enchantment, relaxation and memorable experiences.

The project will create jobs, boost the region’s economy and help to position Nha Trang Bay as one of the world’s luxury tourist destinations with smart international hotels and resorts such as the Intercontinental, Six Senses, Evason and Amanoi, and the Marriott and Hyatt coming soon on Long Beach.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Khanh Hoa Province, in 2013, over 3 million domestic and foreign tourists enjoyed overnight stays and sightseeing in the beach resort of Nha Trang and the surrounding attractions in the province, an increase of 29% compared to 2012. Of these, nearly 712,000 were international tourist arrivals.

Nha Trang has been the top attraction for travelers for both domestic and international tourists for many years and is also popular with day visitors because of its delightful beach, considered the most beautiful beach in Vietnam, with deep blue sea and seemingly endless white sand.

Inspiration for Emperor Cruises came from the recreational activities of Emperor Bao Dai when he used to stay in his villas in Nha Trang. He took great pleasure in sailing in Nha Trang Bay to go fishing around the offshore islands. Almost a half century later, Emperor Cruises have recreated his vessel, using inspirational designs, and still fit for an emperor.

The Emperor Cruises fleet has a junk cruise boat (from February 2015 with a capacity of 32 passengers) fit for royalty for day cruises around Nha Trang Bay as well as sunset cocktails and dinner on board.

“Emperor Cruises will also launch overnight luxury cruises in June 2015 in world-famous Nha Trang Bay, accommodating 30 people in 15 en-suite cabins, the first in a total of five cruise ships in this particular project, with each one designed to be a sanctuary where every moment counts for our guests.” said Bui Duc Long, Owner and Director of Emperor Cruises.

“With Emperor Cruises luxury doesn’t mean there won’t be adventure! You spend your time watching wildlife, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, kayaking, embracing Mother Nature, and passing the time with your fellow passengers and crew.”

The benefit of an ultra-luxury cruise with Emperor Cruises is that, apart from being small boats with personalized service and outstanding facilities on an all-inclusive basis, often there is no bill to pay at the end whether on a one-day or two-day cruise.

The cruise fleet will accommodate up to 150 guests in five unique boats within five years in the initial stage and then the joint-venture company will develop a fleet of 10 boats carrying up to 300 to 500 passengers cruising the bay on a daily basis.

The project has chartered capital of VND250 billion and the project aims to promote Nha Trang and Vietnam as a luxury cruise destination.

For international tourists, Russia is the country that occupies first place in the number of visitors to Khanh Hoa Province with about 150,000, thanks to chartered direct flights and Vietnam Airlines’ route straight from Moscow to Nha Trang.

With significant numbers of visitors from Australia, America, France, England and Germany, Vietnam expects to receive around 8 million tourists in 2014.

LondonTown.com: London gallery prepares to explore sex, penguins and much more

Wellcome Collection unveils an idiosyncratic autumn events programme for 2014

LONDON, September 17, 2014, The Wellcome Collection, one of London’s most stimulating and unusual venues is preparing to reopen after a lengthy closure for redevelopment and has revealed details of its event-packed autumn programme featuring a busy calendar of exhibitions and one-offs. The Wellcome Collection is located on the Euston Road close to Euston, King’s Cross and St Pancras International stations and features items covering art, science and history from an idiosyncratic personal collection accrued by a pharmacology billionaire on his travels almost 100 years ago. The venue is being extensively refurbished but several areas are open, including some gallery space, a café and bookshop. For more about the Wellcome Collection, see LondonTown.com, where you will also find the best information about London events and exhibitions, as well as London hotels, shops and restaurants.

The Wellcome’s programme includes An Idiosyncratic A to Z of the Human Condition, a free exhibition that runs until 12th October featuring a curious combination of objects, medical artefacts, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and contemporary artworks. Running until July 2015 is the free video installation, Eye Contact, which forms two giant pairs of eyes that stare out from the windows of the Wellcome Trust’s headquarters, winking and blinking at passing tourists and traffic. The eyes will be ‘awake’ and active through the day and will close at sunset to ‘sleep’ through the night – unless they are woken by a passing pedestrian.

The Wellcome will also be running the Age Of Exploration event series, which looks at the history of exploration and the nature of human curiosity. Events include a talk called Into The Unknown on Thursday 11th September (7-8.30pm), that looks at the human desire to question the unknown and the impact this has on our minds and bodies, and The Worst Journey on Thursday 9th October (7-8.30pm), which looks at the formation of Henry Wellcome’s vast hoard of medical curios and features a specially commissioned musical performance that looks at how how Apsley Cherry-Garrard, the youngest member of Captain Scott’s fateful expedition, risked life and limb to collect emperor penguin eggs in the Antarctic winter.

Coming later this year is a new exhibition, The Institute Of Sexology – from 20th November 2014 to 13th September 2015 – which will be a candid exploration of sexuality, featuring more than 200 objects spanning art, archival material, erotica, film and photography. It will be the first ever UK exhibition to look at the work of the pioneers of the study of sex.

LondonTown.com: Tate galleries in London prepare for another bumper year

Sculpture, painting, photography and Pop Art all lined up for 2015 programme

LONDON, September 16, 2014, London’s Tate galleries have announced the highlights of their 2015 exhibition programme. The two galleries, which are among Europe’s leading cultural attractions, will be holding major exhibitions on sculpture, Pop Art and photography, featuring the work of the likes of Barbara Hepworth, Alexander Calder, Frank Auerbach and David Hockney. Tate Britain in Pimlico and Tate Modern in Borough are both located on the River Thames and are connected by a ferry service that travels between the two galleries. For more on this and other attractions and exhibitions to look forward to in 2015, as well as news about London hotels, restaurants, shops and museums, see LondonTown.com, the city’s best guide for tourists.

The first half of 2015 at Tate Modern features three major retrospectives by prominent modern and contemporary painters. Sonia Delaunay (1885 – 1979) celebrated the modern world of movement, technology and urban life as a significant figure of the Parisian avant-garde from the 1920s. American minimalist painter Agnes Martin (1912-2004) came to prominence in the 1960s with her subtle, evocative canvases marked out in pencil grids and pale colour washes. And Marlene Dumas’s (b.1953) paintings reflect contemporary anxieties about life and death, gender and sexuality, and the influence of mass media and celebrity.

Tate Modern’s later exhibitions will include Alexander Calder: Performing Sculpture, the artist’s first major retrospective in the UK. Calder was a pioneer of kinetic sculpture and played an essential role in reshaping the history of modernism. The World Goes Pop  will tell new and different stories about Pop art from the 1960s and 1970s. It will reveal how one of the world’s most accessible art movements was often a subversive international language for criticism and public protest.

At Tate Britain in Pimlico, the first retrospective in London since 1968 of the work of Barbara Hepworth opens in the summer. One of the most successful sculptors in the world during the 1950s and 1960s, it will emphasise Hepworth’s prominence and significance in the international art world. Frank Auerbach (b.1931) has made some of the most resonant and inventive paintings of recent times, of people and of the urban landscapes near his studio in Mornington Crescent. Tate Britain is working closely with the artist on an autumn exhibition of works from the 1950s to the present day. From the autumn, the group exhibition  Art and Empire  will present art of the last three hundred years, including contemporary works, associated with the British Empire.

There is an emphasis on photography at Tate Britain in the spring of 2015. Salt & Silver: Early Photography 1840-1900 is devoted to original salted prints, one of the earliest forms of photography.  Nick Waplington and Alexander McQueen  is the result of a unique collaboration between photographer Nick Waplington and acclaimed fashion designer Alexander McQueen. For more on these exhibitions at Tate Modern and Tate Britain, see LondonTown.com.
