Beta Testing Begins On A New Cloud Web Hosting Platform

Hybrid Logic Ltd, a United Kingdom-based company today announced the commencement of the first round of beta testing of their PaaS (platform-as-a-service) software product, Hybrid Web Cluster in partnership with CloudSigma AG of Zurich, Switzerland.

Hybrid Web Cluster is a Cloud web hosting platform designed to run over any number of real physical servers, cloud server instances or a combination of the two. Matalans new store opts for multi-channel selling with Protouch kiosks

Matalan the leading clothing and homeware retailer is piloting multi-channel retailing in-store with the introduction of self service EPoS kiosks provided by Protouch.

The pilot is being deployed in Matalan’s new High Wycombe store, due to open this week, and will provide an additional means for customers to purchase products and services across the entire Matalan range.

Matalan were looking to provide in-store access to their entire product range including the extended lines that can only be found online. By incorporating transactional kiosks they are able to display products that cannot currently be found in-store.

In turn the kiosks also accommodate customers without internet access and enhance the shopping experience of customers who come to the store. This will allow Matalan to drive incremental revenues in-store by increasing average basket size and cross/up selling.

Ross Williams, Ecommerce Trading Manager, said: “We are always looking to improve our customer’s shopping experience, by giving in store shoppers the option to buy from our online range, they benefit by getting new products sooner, and also by being able to select from our full range. We recognise a shift in our customers shopping behaviour, and are looking to use technology to service customer requirements however they wish to engage with us.”

Protouch is providing the total solution; hardware, software and a managed service with support and maintenance. Matalan elected for Xen X4 kiosks featuring a keyboard and 80mm receipt printers running a secure browser version of their website.

Customers simply browse the website as they would at home then add their desired items to basket and proceed to check out where they can pay and arrange in-store collection or delivery.

The kiosks were launched at the store opening on November 18h.

The company has recently invested heavily in a number of additional high-value Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). While expensive, the technology allows precise X, Y, Z positioning, attitude and robustness during periods of deterioration in GPS navigation saving clients valuable vessel or Rov operation time. Additional expenditure in the latest Sonardyne 6G® long baseline (LBL) equipment, Subsea Gyrocompasses’, BlueView Technologies 2D and 3D Multibeam Sonar and the latest advances in Fibre Optic Multiplexer technology has continually been incorporated into Seatronics’ extensive rental inventory supporting both local and global construction projects.

The company also invests in its staff; with in excess of 100 employees worldwide, 59 of whom are based within Aberdeen, boast an average annual spend on training of about £50,000. While many of its engineers are recruited straight out of university some staff are recruited from the armed forces, and complete ongoing training whether it be in-house or directly with equipment manufacturers.  Mr Coutts said: “We generally put new employees through our own internal training until they reach a level of competence where we are satisfied that we can send them offshore with our rental equipment and provide the highest level of service our clients require.”

Those who are involved with the servicing and maintaining of equipment and offshore support are educated to a minimum HND or degree level in electronics or mechanical engineering.
