KISS Star Gene Simmons’ Therapist On His Issues: ‘Do I Have To Pick Just One?’

July 26, 2011 – /RTPR/ – Dr. Ann Wexler is a Beverly Hills-based psychologist specializing in couples therapy. She is currently appearing onGene Simmons Family Jewels, where she has been helping theKISS star and his longtime partner Shannon Tweed sort through their relationship troubles. In a new interview with Examiner.com, when asked to identify Simmons’ primary therapy issue Wexler quipped, “Wow. Do I have to pick just one?”

On a more serious note she said, “When I very first met him, I thought, ‘Wow, we really need to break through this rock star persona, this TV persona. We have to break through this and I need to find out who he really is. I need to get to who he really is for us to do real work.’ And it turned out that he really did let me in, but I didn’t know if he was going to.”

Dr. Wexler said that Simmons’ public displays of cockiness are actually a front to cover up insecurities that stem from his father abandoning him when he was a child. “I believe that insecurity has stayed with him his whole life,” she stated. “Even though he’s been so hugely successful, and he’s so talented, he still has this feeling deep inside of having to prove that he’s the man. And I think that’s why he sometimes comes off with an overblown self-confidence.”

The show’s season finale airs Tuesday night, and previews show Simmons finally proposing to Tweed after 28 years of being, as he terms it, “happily unmarried.” Wexler said that despite the hard work she’s done with the couple, the decision whether to stay together or go their separate ways has to come from them. “I don’t have an agenda as a psychologist. It’s not my place to determine whether a couple should stay together or be apart,” she observed. “I work with the couple based on what they each express, what they each need and want, both as individuals and as a couple. ”

New NeverLate Online After Party Application Lets People Connect on Facebook

A new Facebook online dating application is giving partygoers a second chance to connect with people they saw at a bar or nightclub, but didn’t get an opportunity to meet.

Miami, FL, Thursday – July 07, 2011 — A new Facebook online dating application is giving partygoers a second chance to connect with people they saw at a bar or nightclub, but didn’t get an opportunity to meet.

Called NeverLate, the online after party app puts a high-tech spin on following up with people. It allows users to find someone they may have seen at a bar/club on Facebook, chat with them at the virtual bar, send virtual drinks and more. “This is a great solution for many people who are looking to meet new people who they already saw and (almost) shared an evening with at the same place,” said Sean Ben-Shmuel, president of N.L. Corporation, the app’s creator.

So exactly how does the online after party app work? The application contains a list with nightclubs and bars all over the world. All users need to do is search for the club they attended, connect to its page and see who is also connected to the same club. They can tag themselves in that club, so anyone who connects to that club in the next 48 hours will be able to find them and view their Facebook profile or send them a message.

Here’s an example of how the Facebook online dating app can be used: Let’s say someone went clubbing, saw a cute girl or guy, shared good eye contact-but never initiated a conversation. Then after they went home, they regretted not speaking to the person and wanted to see them again. Now with the new online after party app, they have a chance to get in touch with that person. “You just connect to NeverLate application on Facebook with your profile, find the club you went to and see if she/he is online or is tagged in the same club page,” Ben-Shmuel explained. “Or you can just tag yourself, so the person can find you there in the next 48 hours.”

The NeverLate online after party app is designed to make the experience of online dating more real and thrilling. It is also a great platform for club and bar owners to advertise their venue. Registered venues have a private zone in the online after party application with photos, a guest book and reviews, upcoming events, and other information about their establishment.

The development of the new Facebook app combines the popularity of online dating and Facebook with traditional clubbing. With Facebook having millions of users worldwide, the app has the potential to impact a broad audience of people who visit the site each day. The NeverLate Facebook app is effectively leveraging social media to bring people together in a unique and exciting way.

The NeverLate online after party app can be accessed at apps.facebook.com/neverlate or by searching for “neverlate” on the Facebook app search. Club owners can register for the app for just $20 a month at www.fbneverlate.com. For more information, please visit www.fbneverlate.com or contact Sean Ben-Shmuel directly at (305) 890-5289.

Citizen Watches Ambassador Kim Clijsters Misses Wimbledon

Jun 22 2011 /RTPR/ – Citizen watches ambassador Kim Clijsters has confirmed that she will miss this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

The injury is the second suffered this year by Clijsters, after the first prevented her from playing in this year’s French Open. Clijsters sustained the new injury during her match against Romina Oprandi at the UNICEF Open in the Netherlands.

During the match, she skidded on the grass court and fell, twisting her right ankle which resulted in severe bruising and a tendon injury. The new injury is unrelated to her previous ankle problem and it is thought it could not have been prevented by the application of ankle tape.

The Citizen watches ambassador has been ordered to rest and will resume training in a month’s time to enable her to take part in this summer’s major US events such as the US Open, which takes place in late August. The event features Clijsters’ major sponsor Citizen watches as the official timekeeper.

Earlier this season, the player had to take time off to recover from shoulder and wrist injuries sustained as a result of the WTA tournament in Miami at the end of March. In early April, she injured her ankle whilst attending the wedding party of a cousin. She returned to the courts at the French Open but her lack of competitive play and training activity showed and she was ousted in the second round by the Dutch player Arantxa Rux, currently ranked 114th in the professional standings, 112 places below Clijsters.

Clijster has so far reached four Grand Slam finals and has won 34 singles titles in her career. She has also won 9 doubles titles with her partner, Japanese player Ai Sugiyama. She retired from the sport in 2007, playing her last tournament in Warsaw. Kim returned to the game in March 2009 initially aiming to participate in exhibition tournaments but returned to competitive tennis in August 2009. A few weeks later she returned to the US Open, the tournament she won in 2005.

How Liberating Information Will Transform Our World

MEDFIELD, MA (June 20, 2011) – Innovative, cheap ways to use real-time data plus removing restrictions to it will help companies make better decisions, streamline and improve government, and empower the public, according to “Data Dynamite,” published today.

The book, subtitled “how data will transform our world,” was written by “data dude” W. David Stephenson, and published by Data4All Press. It is available in e-book and print versions.

The book draws parallels between a potential explosion in uses for data if it becomes accessible to everyone and if new tools make it easy to share and understand, and how publishing of new works bloomed after Luther translated the Bible into German so ordinary people could understand it and printed it rather than having monks copy it. Stephenson says legitimate reasons made it hard for government and companies to gather, process, and disseminate data in the past. Technology removed the barriers, but the old “data scarcity” mentality prevails on the part of management and must be ended.

The book calls for a 4-step process to liberate data:

  • apply “tags” to it the first time it is entered, giving data meaning and context
  • distribute it automatically and in real time, when it will be of most use
  • make it available to everyone in an organization – and often outside it – who needs the data (rather than to just a few elites)
  • provide new Web 2.0 tools letting non-technical users analyze and act on data collaboratively.

The book is aimed at senior managers in business and government and at the general public.

“Data Dynamite” details a wide range of pioneering examples of liberating data, including:

  • online medical records
  • an “Internet of Things” prescription jar that notifies your doctor when you take a pill
  • a Mexican concrete company gaining competitive advantage by operating with real-time data,
  • and an online patient community which shares information on their conditions to help drug companies find cures.

It also outlines principles of liberating data, describes characteristics of companies that liberate data, and concludes with a 13-point “Liberating Data Manifesto.” An entire chapter describes the innovative strategies U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra used while he was the District of Columbia CTO.

Stephenson is principal of Stephenson Strategies, Medfield, Ma, and has an international reputation as a consultant and thought leader in both data and Web 2.0 strategies, especially open data and disaster management strategies that empower the general public.

The book is available from all leading e-book sources, and costs $9.99. The print version retails for $16.99 and is available through Amazon and local bookstores.

Amazing Forest: Rebuilding the Amazon Rainforest One Tree at a Time

Jun 15 2011 /RTPR/– Yes, the Amazon rainforest is being cut down as you read this. 17% is already gone. The world’s lungs – as it’s referred to – is decreasing in size. Yes, everyone knows this. But what can we really do about it? The Amazing Forest is a chance to do something right from where you are, sitting in your chair, a few clicks and USD 60 away.

Amazing Forest is the venue where people from all over the world are combining their efforts into one single strain to restore the Amazon rainforest to its original state.

We sell trees. Not trees to be delivered to your door, but to be planted on your behalf, in your name, in a designated specific area of the Amazon rainforest. The trees being planted are new trees. So, instead of preserving already existing areas of the rainforest, the Amazing Forest is actually reversing deforestation. We take so much from Earth everyday; this is a way to give something back to it.

It’s a common saying that, to eternalise your passage in this life, one must have children, write a book and plant a tree. Well, the four tree species that are currently being planted in the Amazing Forest (they are native species typical of the region: jatoba, copaiba, ipe rosa and louro freijo) live in average 200 years.

And what’s cool about it, people get their own tree, which will never be cut down and remain throughout its life individualised by a name tag, with the name they choose for it.
“We want to give people the opportunity to make a difference for the environment while leaving their own positive footprint in the planet”, says Rodrigo Nascimbeni, the founding partner of the company, “a footprint so tangible and concrete that people can come and see it, show to their children, to their great-grand-children, to their friends…” he goes on referring to the fact that customers can visit their tagged trees in situ while walking inside the realAmazon rainforest.

Amazing Forest goes much beyond simply selling trees online, it is each person’s way to contribute to a better world and to guarantee that future generations will share the same bliss to live here on our planet.

And, better yet, this noble act of planting a tree and committing to a better world can be renewed as often as wanted. Each tree is sold for USD 60.

Besides doing your share of good for a better planet, people can buy trees either as a present for a loved one, a memorial, a way to mark an important occasion or as a simple and convenient method of offsetting their carbon emissions.

Amazing Forest launched on Monday the 23rd of May 2011. The first piece of land to be replanted is situated approximately 34 miles outside the city of Boa Vista, Roraima State in North Brazil (if you go to Google Maps, we’re right where the green arrow points to at these coordinates 2 29 44.40 N 60 56 40.85 W).

The Amazon rainforest is the world’s largest rainforest. It is the home of the world’s richest area of plant and animal diversity and an enormous source of potential lifesaving medicines. Not only that, it is a massive carbon sink that acts as the lungs of the world. Sadly, it is believed that “at current [deforestation] rates, 55% of [the Amazon’s] rain forests could be gone by 2030 – a looming disaster not only for the region’s plants and animals, but for the world”. (Quote Source:http://www.worldwildlife.org/what/wherewework/amazon/)

Who is behind Amazing Forest
Amazing Forest is the realisation of four guys. It all started when the Brazilian Rodrigo Nascimbeni and the New Zealander Ben Cook, two lifelong friends, decided to take on this journey.

“We don’t believe that the size of a task should limit your ambition,” says Ben Cook. “The sad fact is that over 17% of this forest which is so integral to the health of our planet has been devastated by deforestation. If we all wait for someone else to take on this problem then we might just be too late. Rodrigo and I believe we have the passion and the skills to make this project work as a viable business where we can have fun whilst using our respective abilities to actually do something positive for the world we live in.”

Before launching Amazing Forest, Rodrigo created something called a receivables investment fund, the first one in Brazil. He also started and managed a few companies in the financial sector – which means he probably just gave up a successful international career in Investment Banking to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest.
Ben, although he achieved an honours degree in Plant Science, is the co-founder of Shake Interactive, a digital marketing agency operating from South Africa and the UK.

The two met in 1993 when Ben took part in a Rotary youth exchange programme in the tiny town of Votuporanga in Brazil. What started as a mutual need to learn the others native tongue ended in a lifelong friendship. Both have always wanted to work together but their respective careers had taken them in opposite directions and to different hemispheres.

As Amazing Forest was boiling inside their minds, they met Manuel Haas and Florian Herzog, two German Forest Engineers – also lifelong friends – living in Brazil and widely experienced in rainforest management and regeneration. Manuel and Florian came on board at the founding stages and are now an integral part of the team.

Not only do the four men aim to reverse the deforestation process in the Amazon, but 10% of any profits made will be donated to the WWF and a range of local Amazon charities.

Motorcycles – one of the biggest savings available on daily travel

Jun 13 2011 /RTPR/ – Budget conscious motorists could be missing one of the biggest savings available on daily travel – Motorcycles! Did you know that small motorbikes and scooters can achieve well over 100 miles per gallon? How does that compare with your car?

Look around during your commute and you will notice that most cars have one occupant. That is a lot of spare space and metal to drag around and means they are simply burning money as fuel.

Learning to ride is not as difficult as you might think either; a one-day CBT test is all that is required for smaller motorcycles and scooters. Even if you can’t see yourself as a motorcyclist, then you will still gain vital road knowledge from the perspective of people on two wheels.

Switching from a medium sized car to a 125cc motorbike will net you savings on fuel, tax and insurance and in many cases will cover the cost of a brand new motorbike in the first year.

Combine all of the monetary advantages with the fact that motorcycles are great fun and can cut right through the traffic and they offer a solution to modern traffic problems that cannot be ignored.

http://www.cbt-test-training.info gives people looking to take their first steps in to the world of motorcycling all the information required from the moment they learn to ride a motorbike right through to taking the CBT or bike test.

This Sunday will mark the 30th anniversary of the first reports of AIDS in the United States

Jun 06 2011 /RTPR/ – This Sunday will mark the 30th anniversary of the first reports of AIDS in the United States. There is still a long road ahead toward eradicating HIV, but a “dream team for HIV reservoirs cure” has been created since 2003 with this objective.

While the HIV pandemic is still growing, with more than 7,100 daily new cases of infection, there is evidence that antiretroviral therapy costs could treble over the next 20 years.

Today there are more than 30 drugs approved to treat HIV, and while they cannot cure it, they can keep the virus suppressed to undetectable levels in blood. But HIV persists dormant in some “reservoir” and each time antiretroviral therapy is stopped, the infection rekindles. Lifelong therapy is therefore mandatory but brings problems of compliance, resistance, toxicity and cost.

These reservoirs were first described in 1997 and 5 years later Alain Lafeuillade, a French Doctor involved in HIV research, considered that it would be the challenge of the 21st Century. He consequently founded a working group uniting researchers from all over the world that first met in December 2003. This first “HIV Reservoirs, Persistence and Eradication Strategies Workshop” welcomed around 130 scientists actively involved in the field. “At that time we were seen as utopists, Doctor Lafeuillade said, and quite ignored by funding agencies and pharmaceutical companies”.

But minds greatly changed in the following years and in 2009, when the “dream team” met for the 4th time, the workshop was officially supported by the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and the ANRS (French Agency for AIDS Research). In between 2 workshops, the group of scientists are in touch via a specialized website portal they also have created.

“At the end of this year we will reconvene, Doctor Lafeuillade added, and be more than 200 scientists working on HIV cure”. The program of this 5th workshop goes from in vitro models of HIV persistence to HIV eradication clinical trials. “Participants will be able to define a clear road map for HIV cure research with a precise agenda”, Doctor Lafeuillade emphasized.

Advanced Cell Technology has pioneered a solution to the ethical, moral & legal debate raging in regards to protection of a human embryo

May 10, 2011 /RTPR/– Advanced Cell Technology with laboratory facilities in Marlborough Massachusetts has pioneered a solution to the ethical, moral & legal debate raging in regards to protection of a human embryo. ACT has developed the “single-blastomere” technique. Patent Number 7,893,315 a non-destructive alternative for deriving human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines.

This achievement in Regenerative medicine is a ground breaking feat for both Catholic and U.S. law.

• The 1995 encyclical The Gospel of Life, of which Pope John Paul II wrote: “Human embryos obtained in vitro are human beings and are subjects with rights; their dignity and right to life must be respected from the first moment of their existence. It is immoral to produce human embryos destined to be exploited as disposable ‘biological material'” (1,5 )
• The Dickey Amendment (also known as the Dickey-Wicker Amendment) is the name of an appropriation bill rider attached to a bill passed by United States Congress in 1995, and signed by former President Bill Clinton, which prohibits the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from using appropriated funds for the creation of human embryos for research purposes or for research in which human embryos are destroyed.

The single-blastomere technology uses a one-cell biopsy approach similar to pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), which is widely used in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process and does not interfere with the embryo’s developmental potential. The stem cells generated using this approach are healthy, completely normal, and differentiate into all the cell types of the human The safety record for one-cell biopsy as part of PGD now has a 15-year track record, and is carried out routinely as part of IVF processes around the world. ACT’s technique of protecting the human embryo from harm can be expounded to the smallest blood transfusion in the world. As does a human being give millions of blood cells in a pint of blood so does ACT’s “single blastomere” process take but “one cell” from a 2 day old embryo. As the blood removed from a human donor “regenerate” the removed pint of blood so does the human embryo “regenerate” the one cell. Both of these procedures leave the human body & two day old embryo healthy. Both procedures are similar in that they both provide life saving material to those whom need them most to due to disease and other aliments of a medical nature.

Advanced Cell Technology has been granted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a Phase I/II multicenter clinical trial using retinal cells derived from human embryonic stem cells for both Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy (SMD), one of the most common forms of juvenile macular degeneration in the world and Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) the most common form of macular degeneration in the world affecting an estimated 150 million people. ACT is using RPE cells developed from the patented (SCB) technique for this trial. The trial will take place at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute in California. Because of the biological nature of the human eye the trial will be able to provide a 100% irrefutable proof that the (hESC) derived RPE cells used attached to the Bruch’s membrane. Before and after state of the art imaging will take place.

Raymond Lund, Ph.D., a scientific collaborator with ACT, and considered one of the world’s foremost experts in retinal cell physiology and vision restoration, commented, “The study results of ACT’s RPE cells implanted in the various animal models of macular degeneration was phenomenal. If ACT observes even a fraction of that benefit in humans, it will be nothing short of a home run.”

FDA validation will occur for (hESC) medicine in less than 12 months. Will those that dictate law and morality to others lead? Will those suffering from disease all over the world finally have conclusive proof that (hESC) work? Life is filled with multifaceted choices and in a rare occurrence a quantum leap shows itself to the world. Human flight, computers and now regenerative medicine.
