Oklahoma!, One of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Best Musical Theater Collaborations Ever

[Orlando, FL] March 24, 2011 – Central Florida Performing Arts’ (CFPA) a musical theater group for kids in Orlando, FL will perform the student adaptation of Oklahoma! in May 2011, where the content has been edited to better suit younger performers, but still retains all the elements that make this show a classic!

Delisa Dean, director and owner of CFPA, for the past 13 years, and graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, had this to say about the G2K (“Getting to Know”) Oklahoma! musical adaption, for younger students, “Rogers & Hammerstein were the most successful team ever to write for the musical theater genre and Oklahoma! was considered one of their best and a milestone in the way that it told its story through drama, comedy, music and dance. This G2K version is a perfect way for our Star Kids group ages 4th grade and up to experience performing one of the greatest musical theater shows ever!”

Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

Performances will be held at Skye’s the Limit Theater in Winter Park (2721 N. Forsyth Rd., Suite #410) on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, May 7 at 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10. Shows frequently sell out in this small black box theater, so reserve your tickets ahead of time by emailing cfpatheater@embarqmail.com.

Delisa a soprano for over 15 years with Disney’s Voices of Liberty (EPCOT Center in Orlando, FL) started CFPA in 1998 had this to say about her musical theater group for kids,

“CFPA is a non-auditioned group because we wanted to provide all children in the Orlando area an opportunity to grow and develop in the areas of singing, dancing, and acting while building confidence and self-esteem through performing. We have programs for ages 3 to teen.”

It seems the idea has been a success, the group has performed such musicals as The Music Man Jr., Annie Jr., Aladdin Jr., The King and I, Willy Wonka Jr., Seussical Jr., High School Musical Jr., Guys and Dolls Jr. and Alice in Wonderland Jr.

Delisa still performs herself and had a short part in the recent movie, Letters to God. She also sings with Re’Gen Again directed by the well-known arranger and producer Derric Johnson.

Summer Programs in 2011 will include camps for kids age 5 to 18. “We love summer camps because we get to spend several hours a day teaching the children the elements of musical theater, such as audition tips, improvisation games, singing and dance techniques all with the goal of putting on a show for families and friends at the end of the week,” says Delisa. “This year we will have several Disney professionals come to speak with the kids at each camp!”

Summer Camps for CFPA start June 13th and fill up fast.

Pinflap Live! — Feb 26 8.30-10pm @ Dunn Bros Coffee House, Beltline Road Addison, TX

The patrons glanced up at the musician from behind their laptop screens drawn from their cyber worlds by the unique acoustic songs which permeated the Texas coffee shop.

Their glances to the musician, their smiles and loud cheers at the end of each song indicating they were enjoying the performance. Such is the ambience of a coffee shop audience as they work on their laptops while enjoying the live music.

The singer/songwriter that night was Pinflap (Gregory Wooldridge) from Dallas Texas, who’s first CD Pinflap 2 is a current hit with international radio audiences.

By popular request, pinflap will return to Dunn Bros Coffee House, Addison Texas on Saturday night, Feb 26 to share more of his unique acoustic songs.

Wooldridge has been writing music for about 28 years. At the age of 21, he brought a used acoustic guitar and taught himself how to play. Three months later he was in a band and playing bass.

As a former member of several successful bands in the 80s and 90s, including the Cadillac Cowboys, he then went on to carve out a solo career as a singer/songwriter and an acoustic guitarist performing under the name Pinflap.

Pinflap credits Lindsey Buckingham, James Taylor and Ian Anderson, as musicians who inspired his career. One amazing fact about Pinflap is that he never uses a pick, ever! His unique acoustic style sounds simplistic but yet it is complex if not impossible to emulate.

In an industry often permeated with mixers and voice synthesizers it is refreshing to hear the raw talent of a singer/songwriter acoustic guitarist who sounds as good live as he does on his 2010 released album, Pinflap 2. But don’t take my word for it check him out yourself at Dunn Bros Coffee, Addison from 8.30pm on Feb 26.

Pinflap (Gregory Wooldridge) from Dallas will be performing his hit songs ‘the branch’, ‘holding’, ‘package sealed’ and ‘forever begins’ live at Dunn Bros Addison on Feb 26

Pinflap has been writing music for 28 years and performing in a variety of bands before embarking on a solo career. Best known for playing bass and later acoustic rhythm for the Cadillac Cowboys from 1991-97. More recently Pinflap has been carving out a successful solo career as a singer/songwriter and an acoustic guitarist.

Pinflap credits Lindsey Buckingham, James Taylor and Ian Anderson, as musicians who inspired his career. Having transitioned from Bass to Acoustic Pinflap never uses a guitar pick. His music style is hauntingly beautiful and simplistic but yet it is complex if not impossible to emulate.

He has a number of internationally acclaimed songs available on itunes including The Branch a favourite amongst internet radio audiences. ‘The Branch was inspired by singer/songwriter Michelle Branch’ said Pinflap. On release of the single Michelle Branch sent a message to Pinflap ‘‘ Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone write a song for me. Thank you! Sounds great’

Pinflap 2 his self titled CD is still available at all major e-retailers.

Supporting artist for Pinflap at Dunn Bros will be Buck Morgan who was inspired by John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and Bruce Springsteen and is drawn to singers/songwriters who tell a story, share an adventure and introduce you to a character.

‘I’d like to write a pop song some day. I’m still on my first hundred songs, and the songs are all so close to me. They’re literally family.’ Said Morgan.

President of Dallas Songwriters Assoc, Morgan always been a writer, first in newspapers, and later in public relations and is respected amongst his peers for his support of local musicians.

With the release of The Christmas song, Le Blues du businessman and LoveUmadly Eric van Aro proves to be one of the most versatile singers today

In 2001 Eric van Aro released his album “from the heart”, a collection of songs dating from the mid ’20s to the end of the last century that covers different styles including valse musette, world music, country & western, jazz, nursery rhymes, rap and hard rock.

“Friends”, the CD released in 2005, contains collaborations with musicians of the caliber of trumpet player Franco Ambrosetti, harmonica player Bruno de Filippi, drummer Flaviano Cuffari and many other Italian jazz and rock musicians. The album has won over the public and critics worldwide, establishing Eric van Aro as one of the most interesting and accomplished singers to have appeared on the jazz scene in the past few years.

With the release of DESERT MOTEL in 2008 Eric returns with an intriguing selection of songs from such tunesmiths as Winwood, Stills, Manilow, Webb and Metheny for a sublime musical Americana “on the road” experience.

In Summer 2010 Eric changes style and with the Beats4life label the first song JAZZ a collaboration with Marco Soundee, one of Italy’s major house music creators, is released in its various mixes and remixes to major acclaim from DJs around the world.

LoveUmadly (released on December 16ht 2010), The painting in my heart 2010 remix and UR are just a few of the exciting songs from the Soundee/vanAro/Beats4lifestable that will have audiences dance this coming year.

Meanwhile Eric’s COLLABORATIONS project for the ERAKI label is on its way and the first two songs are ready for release. Luca Verde, one of Italy’s major rock guitarists and producers gave the famous French ballad Le blues du businessman a hard rockingarrangement which Eric performs in its original language.

On the other hand Mel Torme’s The Christmas song receives an exciting Latin Jazztreatment with the fabulous IGUAZU acoustic trio.

The Vincent Hayes Project’s “Reclamation” CD Snags #6 Spot on B.B. King’s Bluesville on XM Radio

East Lansing, Michigan – November 21, 2010 – The Vincent Hayes Project snags the Number Six Spot on B.B. King’s Bluesville Channel 74 on Sirius/XM Radio after making its Capital City debut performance at Reno’s East Sports Bar in East Lansing just two weeks ago. Returning to East Lansing where the band recorded their debut CD, “Reclamation” at the Grammy winning producer/engineer Glenn Brown Studios, the Vincent Hayes Project is rapidly claiming attention from some of the most influential names in the Blues Music industry. In the October-November 2010 issue of Big City Blues Magazine, Gary von Tersch refers to Vince Hayes as “Michigan-based blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter extraordinaire.” von Tersch’s review of “Reclamation” reads, “Few musicians these days can sustain that aura of inner moodiness that is at the core of the blues for ten minutes on even one album cut – here Hayes does it twice.

Aided immeasurably by [Doc] Yankee’s piano, the slow-burning, long-ashed “I’ve Got A Right To Change My Mind” contains some brilliant, cliché-free lyrics and one of Hayes’ most soulful (a la Ray Charles or B.B. King) vocals along with some inspired, persuasively pensive guitar work that might even cause Clapton to raise an eyebrow in appreciation while the even longer “Some Kind Of Fool” has an organ backdrop, some deep-soul charged lyrics and a series of guitar passages that slowly and smoothly build the song’s intensity far into the red zone.” Blues lovers and professionals in the industry are welcoming “Reclamation” as is made evident in comment from B.B. King’s Bluesville, Sirius/XM D.J., Pat St. John’s comment of the band’s debut CD.

“I’m digging these tunes of yours! Everything I’ve heard from it is a winner. It’s a smoker!” says St. John. “Reclamation is a thoroughly modern blues album, but not a stale blues-rock album. The results speak for themselves: Alves [Dave Alves on bass and vocals] and Hugley [Donnie Hugley on percussion] form an air-tight unit that backs Hayes with a loose, funky groove, and Hayes proves to be a dexterous axe man whose charisma and love for the music shine strong throughout the disc,” says Living Blues Magazine October 2010. “Reclamation” is available on CDbaby, iTunes, Rhapsody, CDMojo, Amazon, Reverbnation, North61 Records the Vincent Hayes Project’s Record Label, and Amazon. About The Vincent Hayes Project Formed in 2004, the Vincent Hayes Project continues to perform for and impress blues lovers, recording artists, and industry professionals worldwide. Members include: Vincent Hayes, Guitar and Lead Vocals; Dave Alves, Bass and vocals; Donnie Hugley, percussion; Christian Van Antwerpen and Doc Yankee sharing keyboard duties.
