Love Locks on Paris Bridges to be Removed This Week

‘The Glow of Paris- The Bridges of Paris at Night’ author says “It’s about time.”

Paris, France (June 1, 2015) — Napoleon’s final battle is in its final throes and it looks like it will be a victory. The love locks on Paris’s Pont des Arts Bridge, which Napoleon commissioned in 1807 will be removed from bridge beginning next week.

“It’s about time,” says Paris Bridge Photographer Gary Zuercher, “The problems of the locks has become an urban nuisance and they are defacing some of the most beautiful architecture in the world.” How long would we as American tolerate thousands of ‘love locks’ on our national monuments, say at the Golden Gate Bridge or at Gettysburg? Not long.”

Love Locks are padlocks that ‘lovers’ attach to bridges, then the key is tossed into the Seine River to embody their affection. Now Paris fed up and will remove the locks.

Zuercher spent five years photographing the bridges of Paris at night and another year in historical research for his book.

The Glow of Paris: The Bridges of Paris at Night is an eclectic collection of extraordinary gelatin-silver photographic prints of the 35 bridges of Paris – nighttime images that are breathtaking. (ISBN 978-0-9906309-0-6, Marcorp Editions, 2014, 208 pages, $49.95 available on Amazon and at: http://www.marcorp-editions.com).

The London Book Festival and The Los Angeles Book Festival recently proclaimed his book The Glow of Paris- The Bridges of Paris at Night one of the best books in the photography/art category in the 2015 competitions. Last week in NYC, the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) bestowed a Gold Medal First Place award.

These awards come on the heels of the accolades by Kirkus Reviews who called The Glow of Paris one of “Nine Best Books Out This Week.” (Jan 20) and named it “This Week’s Book to Discover.” (May 14) Kirkus further stated:

“A superb pictorial evocation of the City of Light, full of dazzling images and intriguing lore.” – Kirkus Reviews

“For the most part Parisians take these architectural wonders for granted, relying on their functionality to get them where they want to go each day,” says author Zuercher. “They don’t appreciate the beauty because most don’t see the glow of the bridges at night. And most have forgotten that from Julius Caesar to Princess Diana, the bridges of Paris have played in important role in world history.”

The fascinating narrative that accompanies the artistic black and white photos includes historical facts and little known tidbits about the bridge, such as:

• The history of these bridges precede the birth of Christ. In 52 BC Julius Caesar conquered Paris; the earliest recorded mention of the bridges is found in Caesar’s Gallic War commentaries. Most of the later history evolves from around the time of the Middle Ages and thereafter.

• On the morning of October 3, 1943, an aircraft hit the Pont de Tolbiac Bridge and crashed into the Seine, killing the four Frenchmen on board. The four were members of the Free French Air Force who had flown from an airfield in England to participate in the allied bombing of a power station outside of Paris.

• Bridges constructed prior to the late eighteenth century normally had houses and shops built directly on them. Floods, ice floes, fires, boat collisions, and structural failures frequently destroyed the bridges. The collapsing bridges took the houses and shops down with them, and often their occupants as well. In 1769 Louis XV finally outlawed the construction of houses on the bridges, but it took until 1808 for the last building to be removed.

• The Pont des Arts seems to have the densest proliferation of locks, perhaps because of the French adage that roughly translates as “a lock on the Pont des Arts is your commitment for life and a lock on the Pont de l’Archevêché is your commitment to your lover.” It is estimated that more than 250,000 are attached to the Pont des Arts. According to the newspaper Le Figaro, the weight of the locks is 300 kilos per lineal meter. That equals 205,207 pounds, a considerable weight for the bridge to bear. From time to time the guardrail fence starts to fail under the weight and has to be replaced, at which point the locks are simply thrown away.

• Early on, the Pont Neuf was the center of a permanent fair, a meeting point for all the sophisticated as well as the vulgar pleasures of the capital. At any moment you would find street performers-acrobats, fire-eaters, and musicians- charlatans and quacks, as well as hustlers and pickpockets, not to mention a lively trade in prostitution. Among the many businesses were several famous “tooth pullers.”

“This information will be of great interest to not only tourists and historians but also to Parisians who have limited knowledge of the 35 bridges in their city and are surprised at the number of islands in the Seine,” says Zuercher. “There is a great deal of truth in the words of author Monique Marty who wrote of the bridges – ‘They are the extension of the streets, the hyphens between the two river banks. We cross them on foot, by car, by Metro. We see them without looking at them and that’s a shame’.”

Zuercher, an artist in the darkroom as well as behind the lens, lives half a year in Paris and the other half in Washington, D.C. He develops the film into negatives in Paris and then makes the prints in the D.C. darkroom. Often he would make 20 to 30 prints before coming up with just the right photo for his book. The results of his work prove what was written by Ansel Adams, “The negative is like the score of the music and the print is like the performance.”

The stories related to the project are rich enough to fill another book, such as the time he was refused access to a church roof to photograph an aerial shot because he could not be there while the nuns were sleeping. Or when he had to use mountain climbing equipment and the aid of city firefighters to climb to the top of city hall to shoot seven bridges from the air. Or when young thugs threatened him while Zuercher was working at night but were defused when he offered to take their pictures and email it to them.

Limited Edition: Along with a signed copy of the book, a gelatin silver photographic print of the “Seven Bridges” featured on the book’s cover, hand made to museum archival standards, will be available in limited quantity, signed by Gary Zuercher, mounted on 16″ x 20″ acid free mat board and ready for framing. For more information visit http://www.marcorp-editions.com.

Landmark Study Urges Immediate and Universal Affirmation of “The Right to be Creative

A body of knowledge no one thought or knew existed uncovers the authentic, inherently creative, but universally overlooked human essence – a discovery that will forever change the way humanity perceives itself, organizes society, and conducts affairs.

Blacksburg, Virginia, May 31, 2015 – An astonishing compendium and synthesis of creativity wit and wisdom brings humanity face-to-face with its innermost, but historically overlooked essence. In words that speak to the reader personally, deeply, and directly, Creativity: Revealing the Truth about Human Nature conclusively demonstrates:

The inherence of creativity in human nature and, therefore, its universal distribution.

The naturalness of creativity: a quality, ability, and “right” that exists by virtue of natural law, and that therefore is both universal and inalienable; a right inherent in the person as “a direct prerogative from the Infinite Will and Consciousness”; a right that is not contingent upon tradition, custom, belief, culture, or government.

The centrality of Creativity in human life, i.e., its primacy among the forces that drive human behavior and shape people’s lives.

Actualization of one’s creative potential as the primary goal of life; “the healthiest and highest expression of human nature”; and “the optimal state of being.”

Widespread blockage of people’s Creativity as the root of the global epidemic of meaninglessness, and the resultant social and psychological problems that are ruining the lives and destinies of countless millions of people around the world, traumatizing families and societies.

Analysis and interpretation of the insights that are brought together in Revealing the Truth about Human Nature resolves three persistent psycho-social, psycho-spiritual issues, with fundamental implications for the way humanity perceives itself, organizes society, and conducts affairs:

* What it really means to be human

* What a one’s life is all about

* What gives it meaning and enduring significance

The crux of Revealing the Truth about Human Nature and reasons for its writing are two and related: The first is to return humanity to the proper understanding of its authentic, quintessentially creative, nature. The second is to free mankind from obsolete self-perceptions that, clearly, are no longer serving it well – self-perceptions that are at the root of most social and psychological problems.

A global treasure, Revealing the Truth about Human Nature signals the beginning of a movement to reclaim humanity’s defining and most important quality – creativity; and necessarily, to formally recognize and protect that quality – The Right to Be Creative – in all existing and future charters of humanity.

The E-Book version of Creativity: Revealing the Truth about Human Nature, ISBN 9781622875160, published by First Edition Design Publishing, is available online across e-book reading platforms.

Philly’s “The Cake Lady” Releases Irresistibly Yummy Family-Friendly Cookbook

Lynn April is the woman behind the popular blog FreshAprilFlours.com and is the former owner of Lucky Duck Cakes, where she become known as “The Cake Lady” in her hometown of West Chester, PA.

Philadelphia, PA (USA), May 23rd, 2015 — Lynn April is the woman behind the popular blog FreshAprilFlours.com and is the former owner of Lucky Duck Cakes, where she become known as “The Cake Lady” in her hometown of West Chester, PA. It would be cliché to say Lynn had “always been in the kitchen” or “grew up baking with her grandmother.” Neither is true. Lynn considers herself a “self-taught” baker. However, on a whim, she did decide to take up a Wilton Cake decorating class at her local craft store and fell in love with it.

“I never had an interest in baking until I forced myself to find a hobby,” says Lynn, “and I never had an interest to be in the kitchen when I was younger. It wasn’t until my 20’s when I decided to put on my baker’s hat and learn to bake from scratch. I found the experience therapeutic, stimulating, and science-y.”

In her recently released cookbook “The Chow Down” (published by Halo Publishing International), Lynn shares some irresistible cereal snack mix recipes the whole family will enjoy. Each recipe is kid-friendly and simple to follow.

“I wanted a cookbook the whole family can do together. I didn’t want a cookbook that makes baking unenjoyable or complicated. I’m all about families gathering in the kitchen and making memories there,” says Lynn.

In “The Chow Down” Lynn shares some of her favorite puppy chow recipes she loves to make at home and bring with her to parties and gatherings. Lynn’s favorite puppy chow flavor, Piña Colada, is on page 25.

“Lynn April’s cookbook is a great way to get families involved in making fun treats together for entertaining, gifting or simply enjoying as a weekday night treat,” says Halo Publisher Lisa M. Umina.

You can purchase “The Chow Down” cookbook through Halo Publishing’s website ( http://halopublishing.com ), Amazon, and Lynn April’s blog FreshAprilFlours.com. If you purchase your cookbook from FreshAprilFlours.com, Lynn will personally autograph it, making it a great gift for the baker or chef in the family.

Biography:
Lynn April lives outside of Philadelphia with her husband, Matt. Lynn’s full-time job is at a lab bench in an immunology lab, but she practices a different kind of science in her home kitchen in the evenings and on weekends. Lynn loves creating new recipes, putting them to life, and sharing them with friends and loved ones. If you can’t find her in the kitchen or behind her camera lens, there’s a good chance she’s at the gym with her husband or sipping a cup of coffee in her sweatpants.

Delightful Children’s Picture about a Tiny Tree Frog Wins Multiple Book Awards

Children’s book author Anita Turnage understands the importance of sharing nature with children. Animals and nature are the perfect medium through which to gently teach important lessons and about the world we live in.

Houston, TX (USA), May 23rd, 2015 — Children’s book author Anita Turnage understands the importance of sharing nature with children. Animals and nature are the perfect medium through which to gently teach important lessons and about the world we live in. In this endearing tale filled with vivid and colorful illustrations by Kim Sponaugle, a little boy named Haden, who loves to catch bugs, shares exciting adventures with Nana T in her garden. One day, while on hands and knees, they come face to face with a tiny little tree frog. Hops begins to visit daily and Haden’s fascination grows as he learns about frogs, what they eat and where they live in the winter time.

“Hops” is based on the escapades of a very real tree frog in author Anita Turnage’s backyard. “I’m an avid gardener and I fell head over heels in love with this little tree frog,” said Turnage. “After several weeks of him following me around the yard and house, and my grandson becoming really excited about our little visitor, I decided to write down the different adventures my grandson and I were having together with our tree frog friend.”

Recently “Hops” won the Conversations Award for the Best Regional Book of the Year (2015), the Loewenherz-Creative Award for Best Children’s Picture Book and the Reader Views Kids Award for Best Children’s Picture Book of the Year (2015).

“I’m very excited and still in shock Hops won so many awards,” said Turnage. “My head has been spinning since receiving the news.”

The criteria for each award is chosen from the first place winners in both fiction and nonfiction, and “Hops” placed first in each award category, honoring the this cute children’s picture book with many gold seals.

“I’m really humbled that so many readers found value in my story,” said Turnage. “However, I really feel I need to share these awards with all those who helped make this book possible, those who supported me through this process, and of course, with my fans as it was a team effort.”

Author Anita Turnage feels writing and reading is something that brings everyone together. She loves sharing ideas and the different events she experiences with her grandchildren while out in nature. She does give a lot of credit to her grandson who was such an enjoyable creative mind to work with as she penned the different events with their little tree frog, Hops.

Halo International Publisher, Lisa Umina said, “Anita is an amazing author and her stories are always full of fun and adventure. Hops is a delightful story that inspires children to explore their natural world, something many caregivers feel is important as children are easily drawn indoors by technology. Hops helps get children and adults alike sharing adventures with Nana T and Haden in their garden during reading time.”

Readers can find “Hops” in the Halo Publishing bookstore ( http://www.halopublishing.com ) or at any online bookstore such as Amazon and B&N. Available both in Hardback and eBook.

Biography:
Anita Turnage, “Nana T,” lives in the Carolinas with her husband, Ralph, “Pop”, and English Setter, Izzie. She retired from corporate life after 27 years and is now a full time wife, mother, grandmother and gardener. The days she savors the most are those spent with her grandchildren. As a gift to her grandchildren, “Nana T” takes pen in hand to recount delightful adventures she shared with them.

A Bold Move: 79-year old champion bodybuilder competes against 40-, 50-, 60-year olds!

Amador County, CA, May 08, 2015 — /EPR NETWORK/ — A career spanning nearly 50 years isn’t over yet for Amador County veteran bodybuilder and one of the original Mr. Venice Beach competitors, Arthur Peacock. Peacock, who is turning 80 this year, takes the stage with 40-, 50-, and 60-year olds this Saturday, May 9 at the Contra Costa Bodybuilding Championship, to be held in the Chabot College Performing Arts Theatre.

“There is no doubt that this is a career turning point for me. It’s what I’ve been training for my entire life, but especially the last three years. I’ll have 60-seconds to prove myself—my physique and my poses—with competitors between 40 and 69. That’s potentially almost 40 years younger than me.”

Peacock chose to compete in three classes for a couple of reasons—no 70s bracket existed, and he has every intention of continuing his legacy to inspire others who want to follow their bodybuilding dreams.

“I want people to see me and say, ‘I can do that. Look at that guy up there at 80.’ I want to inspire to the end; I’ve done it all my life. I’ve had world champions come up to me and say, ‘I remember when you stopped and spoke to me as a teenager, and now, 20 years later, I’m the number one guy. Thank you.’”

It was in 1965, as an already athletic young man in his early 30s, an avid swimmer, surfer cyclist, and hiker, that Peacock went as a spectator with his friends to his first bodybuilding competition. “I knew I wanted to do that—that I could do that.” And that he did, taking home his first trophy in the 1968 Mr. Venice Beach competition, which gave rise to a half-century career with more than 50 major titles earned.
