First Edition Design Publishing Releases New Book, “Chicken Salad and Ghosts” by Melanie Spycher

Chicken Salad and Ghosts, by Melanie Spycher, tells us a ghost story filled with ghostly encounters of a positively playful and prank filled kind.

Tampa, FL, USA — Melanie Spycher’s Chicken Salad and Ghosts is partially an autobiography and part female mystery adaptation. But first, let me introduce myself: I am Nonni in this book. As I am writing this, I can hardly believe it’s been over thirty years since the depicted events took place. You may not believe in ghosts, and I am not documenting these experiences to convince you. I’m simply writing this book because, when reflecting on these memories in my life, thought they were worth sharing with others, both believers and nonbelievers.

Back in the seventies I owned a shop in the basement of a three-story, early 1900s house for three years. Though the area was quite small, I managed to keep it well stocked with hand crafted items representing over one hundred consignors. Above my business was the two-story house that functioned as an antique store. As the strange events began taking place, and then increased in frequency, Cookie, who owned the antique store, and I assumed that someone was playing pranks on us. What other explanation could there be? But that was until we began sharing our experiences with other shop owners and found that they, too, had stories to share.

Melanie Spycher was a nurse for thirty years, but ventured down a different path in 1976 when hearing a small consignment shop was for sale. While she expected some challenges in the new business environment, she never anticipated that ghosts would be amongst them. Though Melanie’s time as a small business owner was brief, the playful antics of a resident ghost changed her life forever.

Unique Slow Flowers Workshop in Santa Cruz Features Innovative Bay Area Floral Designer Teresa Sabankaya and Internationally Known Outdoor Living Expert, writer, lecturer and Slow Flowers Founder Debra Prinzing

Innovative Bay Area floral designer Teresa Sabankaya will team up with renowned floral expert Debra Prinzing, founder of Slowflowers.com to offer an inspiring two-part workshop for floral professionals at a beautiful private garden in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz, CA, June 20, 2016 — Innovative Bay Area floral designer Teresa Sabankaya will team up with renowned floral expert Debra Prinzing, founder of Slowflowers.com to offer an inspiring two-part workshop for floral professionals at a beautiful private garden in Santa Cruz.

“Slow Flowers Creative Workshop,” set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, is designed to help floral designers and Farmer-Florists clarify, document and communicate their personal artistic message as a floral professional by focusing on brand-building, floral storytelling and media messaging.

Sabankaya, founder and creative director of Bonny Doon Garden Co. and creator of the unique Bonny Doon Posies arrangements, will work with participants to explore and expand their approach to garden-inspired design and identify the inspiration for their floral designs.

The will participate in her hands-on exercises that build support for their designs’ inspired floral elements and complementary elements and focus on how to make the mechanics that support their style work as they create an arrangement of their own.

Sabankaya, whose floral designs have become highly desirable due to their unique style of arranging and elegant garden appeal, is considered one of the most innovative florists in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prinzing is a writer, speaker, outdoor living expert and advocate for American flower farming and author of “Slow Flowers: Four Seasons of Locally Grown Bouquets from the Garden, Meadow and Farm” and “The 50 Mile Bouquet: Seasonal, Local and Sustainable Flowers.”

The website slowflowers.com is an online directory to help people find floral professionals who are committed to using American-grown flowers.

The workshop will take place over one and a half days in a private garden in the Santa Cruz area. Guests will receive location and map to the garden after they register.

Cost for the workshop is $525 and includes all instruction, materials, supplies, flowers, morning coffee/refreshments, two lunches and a cocktail reception in the garden. It also includes a guest’s own gallery of images from the sessions and their design work.

In a safe, supportive and intimate setting, the small group will spend 24-plus hours focusing on Slow Flowers “brand building” and how each participant can find his or her own voice as a floral storyteller. Subjects that will be covered include:

• How to evoke and express your personal story as a creative individual
• How to play with words to describe the natural world’s color, texture and form
• How to tell your flower memoir as metaphor for your brand
• How to flex your sensory muscles
• How brand development can capture key distinctives in words and images that define you
• How to use storytelling in a media pitch — learn how to be a resource for targeted media

On the second day, Sabankaya will lead participants in a floral design exercise that identifies the essential spirit of “garden-inspired design.” They will learn how to build the support for the inspired/complementary elements and learn how to make the mechanics work.

After her presentation, participants will choose from local, seasonal roses, dahlias and other signature blooms and create an arrangement that expresses their personal take on garden-inspired design. Sabankaya will cover sourcing of botanical ingredients, growing decisions and foraging approaches. Coached by her, each student will photo-style her/his creation for web, marketing and portfolio use.

During the design portion of this module, Prinzing will interview each participant individually about their philosophy and provide them with tips on creating a floral narrative for their design.

Registrants will be sent a pre-planning packet of exercises created by Prinzing two weeks prior to the workshop. The goal for these exercises is that the more time and thought invested in the exercises, the more rewarding the 24-hour experience will be.

Lady Justice and the Ghostly Treasure released by Robert Thornhill

Award-winning mystery author, Robert Thornhill, announces the release of Lady Justice and the Ghostly Treasure, volume #23 in his Lady Justice series.

Independence, MO, June 11, 2016 – Independence, Missouri author, Robert Thornhill, has just released Lady Justice and the Ghostly Treasure, volume #23 in his award-winning Lady Justice mystery/comedy series.

Robert began writing at the age of 66 after a 36 year career in real estate. In six years, he has published 23 novels in the Lady Justice series, the seven volume Rainbow Road series of chapter books for children, a cookbook and a mini-autobiography.

Nine of the Lady Justice novels received the Pinnacle Achievement Award from the National Association of Book Entrepreneurs for best new mystery novel, fourteen have received 5 Star Reviews from Reader’s Favorite, and nine have been ranked #1 on Amazon in the past twelve months.

Having never learned to type, all Robert’s novels have been written with one finger and a thumb!

In Lady Justice and the Ghostly Treasure, Robert asks the questions; Is there really a spirit world? And if there is, can those disembodied souls communicate with the living?

Can departed love ones speak to family from beyond the grave?

These are questions Walt must ponder when a bizarre series of paranormal events lead his friend, Mary, to a treasure hidden away for seventy years, and a family she never knew existed.

Walt’s ultimate answer lies in the words of the Professor, “There are still many things beyond the comprehension of mortal man.”

A light-hearted look at things that go ‘bump’ in the night.

C.F. Jones of Independence writes, “Cozy means something that’s comfortable, warm and familiar. A cozy mystery is one where the reader likes the characters, feels justice is served at the end, and has enough twists and turns to the plot that their mind is actively engaged in helping solve the crime.

In my opinion, this is one of Robert Thornhill’s best novels in his Walt Williams Mystery/Comedy series. Lady Justice and the Ghostly Treasure is the 23rd book in this series and is full of mysteries: hidden gold; spooky specters; providential coincidences; and a cast of characters that interweave around and about each other.

The pace of the story is quick and quirky. There are several funny scenes that may cause the reader to laugh out loud and the paranormal episodes will give even the non-believer pause. The characters are well defined and realistic.

A definite thumbs-up and five stars, this is one of the coziest mystery cozies he’s written!” For more about the series, go to http://booksbybob.com

New Book Release – Major Wager: The Pure Round of Golf Jack Challenged Tiger To, by Colin Koenig

Author Colin Koenig announces the release of his second book, “Major Wager: The Pure Round of Golf Jack Challenged Tiger To” is now available through Amazon.com.

Bridgeport, CT, USA — It’s 1997 and golf legend Jack Nicklaus watched the riveting new star, Tiger Woods, destroy the competition at the Masters. When Woods declares his goal is to beat Nicklaus’ 18 major golf titles, that gets Nicklaus wondering. Does the kid have what it takes?

What if Jack Nicklaus challenged Tiger Woods to a totally private round of golf? Just the two of them?

Following this exciting premise, author Colin Koenig crafted together a fictional match between golf’s greats that carries an 18-hole round of golf through an entire book. Major Wager (The Pure Round of Golf Jack challenged Tiger To) is that tale, and is now available through Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/Major-Wager-Round-Challenged-Tiger/dp/1518748562/182-6638860-8750045).

Nicklaus wants to play the round at Augusta National, home of The Masters. But can he arrange it? What about keeping a low profile? Would they not use their caddies, and even carry their own golf clubs? And not tell their families? It would be just them—-two men meeting to play a round of golf…but it turns into so much more.

With witty dialogue and vivid imagery, Koenig creates a round of golf that will never be forgotten. Taking into account the age difference and the character of each man, he brings their personalities to life on the course. With human touches: “Tiger took off his cap, which was drenched with sweat. He wanted a new one,” and inside glimpses into their minds: “(Jack) was beginning to feel a bit nervous about what he was going to propose to Tiger, and the fear of rejection was something Jack Nicklaus was unaccustomed to.” The book reads like a Sports Illustrated story.

The story answers questions every golf enthusiast has probably asked:
• What would happen if the two pros golfed one-on-one?
• What would they talk about?
• What’s going on inside their heads as they play?
• Stripped of their entourage and away from the public intrusion of the cameras, can these legends of golf play a round like two normal guys?

A long-time sports enthusiast, Koenig reveals what he thinks the answers to those questions are in a fast-paced narrative that will keep readers turning pages. It’s definitely a match that would have made history, had anyone known about it. One reviewer, Grady Harp, a Top 100 Amazon Reviewer, said this about the book. “Colin supplies a jet-propelled adventure on a golf course that reads so well that it vies with any mystery or thriller on the shelf.”

Major Wager: The Pure Round of Golf Jack Challenged Tiger To (ISBN 978-1518748561, 2015, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Paperback $9.75, 140 pages. Kindle $6.50. Available on Amazon.)

About Colin Koenig
Colin Koenig was born in Bridgeport, CT. He later spent time in Pennsylvania training Standardbred race horses. Koenig drives a delivery truck which allowed him to conjure up dialogue every time he passed a golf course. This is his second book.

Entrepreneur Gene Nalbandian Finds Meaning in His Life’s Journey

Gene Nalbandian’s first book, “Lamentations of a Dad: How Takeaways Led to Comebacks” allows the reader to enjoy an intimate conversation with Gene; who openly and honesty shares the lessons he has learned from the roller coaster of his life.

Laguna Beach, CA (USA), 6th June, 2016 — Gene Nalbandian has lived almost eight decades and his personal journey includes being a descendant of Armenian Genocide survivors, founding a number of entrepreneurial businesses, a stint as a pro-ball player for the Chicago Cubs, as well as being the first man in California to legally obtain full custody of his three children. His first book, “Lamentations of a Dad: How Takeaways Led to Comebacks” allows the reader to enjoy an intimate conversation with Gene; who openly and honesty shares the lessons he has learned from the roller coaster of his life.

“It hasn’t always been easy,” shares Gene Nalbandian. “Especially losing my son to a long hard fight with drug addiction, however, through all of my life there have been opportunities to learn and grow and I hope readers will take away information they can use in their own life.”

“Lamentations of a Dad: How Takeaways Led to Comebacks” offers hope to those who have struggled with loss, failure and disappointment. Gene shares the lessons he has learned and the comebacks he has enjoyed by simply mastering the art of picking himself back up and moving forward, one step at a time.

“There are so many experiences for which I am most proud; my children are all wonderfully successful, each in their own right,” says Gene. “I have started several businesses, hold three patents and founded an ice cream franchise that was wildly popular in the 70s. Each of these accomplishments have had moments where I questioned the direction and yet ultimately, whether they failed or exceeded expectations, have provided lessons I hope others can benefit from.”

The loss of his youngest son, Derek, just two short years ago, has certainly been the biggest struggle and most painful experience.

“Derek was an amazing man who was gripped by an addiction no amount of love, support or money could overcome,” shared Gene. “I have walked that nightmare and share what that experience was like and how I have coped both during those years with my son and in the time since he has passed. I hope others going through similar circumstances will gain comfort from this book and the chapters I have dedicated to our relationship.”

“This is an extremely personal book and one which we, at Halo, are so very proud to represent,” says Lisa Umina, founder and President of Halo Publishing International. “Gene offers readers an inspirational message as a father, entrepreneur and mentor. It is a book that I’d recommend for those just starting out in business as well as those who are struggling with raising children of divorce. Frankly, anyone who has tried, failed and wants to try again will benefit from reading “Lamentations of a Dad: How Takeaways Led to Comebacks.”

Lamentations of a Dad: How Takeaways Led to Comebacks – By Gene Nalbandian

Lamentations of a Dad is a wonderfully heartwarming memoir that will lift your spirits and show you that even when tragedy strikes, there are always rainbows that emerge from the darkness and gloom.

Gene was born into an ordinary family who was proud of their culture and beginnings. He graduated from college and was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a promising pitcher. This was a dream come through for Gene. But sadly, a tragic injury ended his career with the Cubs and he had to search another path in his life. But this set back let to another comeback later on.

Gene’s life was also speckled with several other setbacks. He married, divorced, became an entrepreneur, became a single dad, and experienced the death of his son to a drug overdose. But even in the middle of all of these tragic experiences, there were always the comebacks and the rainbows that appear from the darkness.

Gene is a true testament of strength and courage. He shows that we can all learn to cope and not get discouraged, even when there are many really awful things that happen to us in our lives. His walk and trust in the Lord has always given him the strength to endure. All the negative and positive events of his life have made him who he is today, a strong, courageous, grateful, and peaceful man.

I recommend this book to anyone who has experienced a lot of hardship and tragedy and feels trapped by all these events. Gene’s book will enlighten you and give you the strength to courageously carry on.
