Two Rosendin Electric Construction Projects Singled Out as “Best of the Best” for 2015 by Engineering News Record

Leading Private Electrical Contractor Key Contributor to ENR Winning Projects in Health Care and Energy/Industrial Categories.

San Jose, CA, USA — Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and an employee-owned company, is pleased to announce that two of the company’s construction projects have been named Best of the Best for 2015 by Engineering News Record (ENR) magazine. Rosendin Electric was a key contributing contractor on both the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay and the Stanford Energy System Innovation construction projects, which were chosen as the Best Health Care Project and the Best Energy/Industrial Project, respectively.

The UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay in San Francisco is a $1.5-billion hospital construction project with 17 trade partners, including Rosendin Electric, led by DPR Construction. What made the UCSF Medical Center challenging was not only the scope and complexity of the project, but also the addition of plans to accommodate a new cancer-treatment center 18 months after construction began. Rosendin Electric was instrumental in working with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) team to create a detailed design using the latest BIM technology, and mapping the design for field inspection via mobile tablets. The project was finished at $200 million under budget, including $55 million in changes that were implemented without affecting the completion date.

The Stanford Energy System Innovation (SESI) project was a $380 million power systems upgrade to Stanford University’s power infrastructure to meet new, high-efficiency building standards and improve energy efficiency to existing buildings. The project included the addition of a high-voltage substation, installation of state-of-the-art solar arrays, and building a new central energy facility with the largest heat-recovery chillers installed in the U.S. Rosendin Electric was an important contributor to this project, aiding in the design-assist effort for the engineering and construction of the Heat Recovery Plant, OSHPD energy plant, new Administration building, and various site upgrades.

“There were more than 750 entries for ENR’s Best of the Best Projects and we are delighted that we had two projects selected as winners,” said Todd Mazza, Division Manager for Rosendin Electric. “Both the USCF Medical Center and the SESI project gave us an opportunity to display the latest in electrical engineering and design techniques, including computer modeling, prefabrication, and advanced solar technology. We are honored to be contributors to these types of innovative, ground-breaking projects.”

The Metropolitan Council approves a $2M grant to fund a landmark, transit-oriented development in the heart of St. Louis Park, Minnesota

St. Louis Park, MN, December 11, 2015 — /REAL TIME PRESS RELEASE/ — On December 9, 2015 and after overwhelming enthusiasm and support from a rigorous application and vetting process, the Metropolitan Council approved funding for PLACE’s St. Louis Park Community. The Council approved 2 million dollars in funding from its Livable Communities Account for a Transit-Oriented Development (LCA-TOD) grant after the proposed project demonstrated a breakthrough approach to meeting housing and economic development needs in the Twin Cities. The funds will be used to help secure site acquisition at the former McGarvey Coffee property, pioneer alternative energy sources, and integrate stormwater improvement with infrastructure like green roofs and an urban forest.

A nonprofit called PLACE (Projects Linking Art, Community, and Environment) heads up the community endeavor in concert with the City of St. Louis Park, fellow eco-minded and socially conscious companies like Allianz Life, Stantec, Shaw-Lundquist, Lindquist & Vennum, MSR, LIFT, and Rachel Contracting that have invested in the project, other private partners, and public collaborators like Hennepin County. The community will elevate affordable living, design, and artistic culture in the city and will be located near the expected Green Line extension (Southwest Light Rail) Wooddale Station. The development’s potential positive impact is staggering, with healthy homes for 300 households across the income spectrum supported by a mobility hub, urban agriculture, live and work spaces, a hotel, and a renewable energy generation system that consumes food waste created by its inhabitants and surrounding neighbors.

Chris Velasco, PLACE’s Executive Director, observed, “I think this project will be of national significance for communities that want to effectively leverage their scarce resources.”

Ryan Kelley, City of St. Louis Park Planner, says, “The City of St. Louis Park is extremely proud to be the co-recipient with PLACE of the Met Council’s largest transit oriented development grant for a new sustainable community of regional significance.”

“PLACE is an excellent project, for the city and the region. Turning vacant, unused property into a community space with alternative energy features, that is connected to other uses, like transit, is just the kind of investment the Council wants to make toward a livable communities and a prosperous region” – Erin Heelan, TOD Grants Coordinator, Metropolitan Council Livable Communities.

Executive Director Velasco thanks the Metropolitan Council for its confidence and support on behalf of the entire team and the residents of St. Louis Park.

Parallel Infrastructure CEO Addresses Congressional Subcommittee on Using Right-of-Way Real Estate to Finance Passenger Rail Improvements

Frank Chechile, CEO of Parallel Infrastructure LLC (“Parallel”), a leading right-of-way (“ROW”) land management and asset development company, presented testimony yesterday to the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, & Hazardous Materials on how right-of-way real estate can be used in an innovative way to fund passenger rail without placing additional burden on taxpayers. The title of the hearing was, “The Role of Innovative Finance in Intercity Passenger Rail.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 27, 2014) — Frank Chechile, CEO of Parallel Infrastructure LLC (“Parallel”), a leading right-of-way (“ROW”) land management and asset development company, presented testimony yesterday to the U.S.

In his testimony, Chechile stated that collaboration between the public and private sector can enable a new source of financing for passenger rail systems. Parallel Infrastructure has the ability to unlock the value of real estate assets owned by public agencies to create a new revenue stream that can be used to finance capital projects and/or ongoing operations.

“There are more than one million miles of right-of-way transportation corridor in the United States, the vast majority of which is owned by the public sector,” said Chechile. “By tapping the value of ROW real estate, billions of dollars in new revenue can be generated and leveraged to fund passenger rail infrastructure improvements in our country.”

Established just two years ago as an independent company, Parallel Infrastructure has grown to become a national player by securing agreements with public and private sector railroad companies. In addition to securing agreements with public sector railroads, such as North Coast Railroad Authority and SEDA-Council of Government, Parallel recently signed an agreement to help Allegheny County in Pennsylvania increase its earnings from its land assets through telecommunications infrastructure development.

Chechile credits the company’s rapid growth to the unique skillset developed from 100+ years of managing its own ROW in Florida and its ability and willingness to deploy its own capital to realize these real estate opportunities. The company has agreements covering more than 1,800 miles of ROW corridor across 22 states.

“I appreciate the chance to have spoken directly with this group of legislators to share Parallel Infrastructure’s experience with generating new financing streams from proactive ROW management that can offer government agencies at all levels the means to enhance our nation’s passenger rail transportation system,” added Chechile.

The hearing can be viewed at: http://www.transportation.house.gov/hearing/role-innovative-finance-intercity-passenger-rail.
