The SmartTOP convertible top modules offered by automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars allow drivers to open and close the top with one-touch convenience while driving at slow speeds as well as from a distance using the original remote key fob. Now owners of the Carrera 991 and Boxster 981 models get to enjoy two added features: Automatic volume adjustment for the radio allows the sound to be muted upon starting the engine. Las Vegas, NV (USA), July 26th, 2013 — Thanks to the aftermarket SmartTOP add-on top controller module, owners of the Porsche Carrera 991 and Boxster 981 get to enjoy full automatic one-touch top operation. Activate the console switch briefly and the top opens or closes by itself; there is no longer any need to hold the switch for the duration of the operation. Additionally it is possible to activate the top from the factory key fob remote. Here too the operation cycle completes without the need to hold any button the entire time. Each SmartTOP module also comes with a host of bonus features that make owning a convertible more fun and convenient.
Mods4cars has now added two new features to the Porsche Carrera 991 and Boxster 981 modules: If desired, the module can mute the radio when the ignition is first turned on. “Unfortunately the last used volume setting is not preserved on these systems. The radio always turns on at a factory pre-set volume when turning the ignition on, even if it was turned off or muted before.” says PR manager Sven Tornow. “This function is intended for those among our customers who would like to start driving without the radio playing.” Sven Tornow concludes.
Additionally the user configurable settings can now be programmed in cars equipped with the multifunction steering wheel. It is now possible to change settings in the car by using key combinations or by using a laptop connected to the module’s USB port. The USB port also allows customers to update the module firmware using a Mac or Windows laptop or desktop computer. Firmware updates are available online and free of charge for the life of the product. Existing customer always get to enjoy new functionality and updates as well.
The Porsche modules offer the following bonus features: Opening and closing of the windows independently from the top, an extended mode where top operation is not interrupted by turning the ignition on or off. A “valet” switch that turns the entire module off temporarily while retaining all user settings. The kit comes with a custom designed wiring adapter and can be installed or removed easily.
The Carrera 991 wind deflector gains one-touch operation and can be programmed to automatically raise up after the top is opened.
SmartTOP modules are available for Alfa, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, Infiniti, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Volvo and VW. The kits are offered for almost all modern convertibles and roadsters on the road today. Pricing starts at 199 Euros + tax.
