Pioneer of Indian Contemporary Dance, Padma Shri Astad Deboo, all set to perform his first solo in over 10 years in Bengaluru, at The Collection, UB City

The 60-minute solo, ‘Eternal Embrace’, in collaboration with renowned Japanese musician Yukio Tsuji will take place on 16 December 2016 at 7 pm.

Bangalore, India, December 11th, 2016 — Padma Shri Astad Deboo, a pioneer in Contemporary Indian Dance, will perform his 60-minute solo, ‘Eternal Embrace’, at The Collection, UB City. The dance, composed in collaboration with Japanese musician Yukio Tsuji, will take place on 16 December 2016 at 7 pm. This is Astad’s first solo performance after a decade in Bengaluru.

With a career spanning almost 50 years, Astad has performed in 70 countries, collaborated with world-famous legends such as Pink Floyd, and worked with the Government of India to celebrate the coronation of the King of Bhutan. For the last two decades, he has worked extensively with disabled artists, and opened the 25th Deaf Olympics Cultural Festival with his ‘Deaf Group’.

‘Eternal Embrace’, choreographed and performed by Astad and composed by Yukio Tsuji, explores the tension between the ephemeral and material worlds. The piece was recently performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it received a standing ovation, with Astad being touted as “a dancing monk”. He is excited about his performance in the city and is gearing up to enthrall his audience with this Sufi-inspired solo, in his signature style of evoking intense emotion.

Sharing his thoughts on his upcoming performance in Bengaluru, Shri Astad Deboo said, “It’s a pleasure to present my latest creation along with my collaborator, Yukio Tsuji. I’m very excited about my performance in UB City.”

Astad Deboo has choreographed for some of India’s most prominent film directors, including Mani Ratnam and Vishal Bharadwaj as well as for legendry painter M.F. Husain. Internationally, he has performed for the Royal families of Thailand, Japan, and Sweden.

He has performed at innumerable National Dance Festivals including the Khajuraho Dance Festival and the Elephanta Festival. He has also performed at International dance festivals including in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Hong Kong, Ecuador, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, The United Kingdom and The United States of America.

DIVRT Presents “Flavours of UB City” – A Weekend of Food and Entertainment

With pop-up restaurants, art and music, the event will take place on 19 & 20 November 2016.

Bangalore, India, November 18th, 2016 — DIVRT presents ‘Flavours of UB City’, a celebration of the city’s finest restaurants, entertainers and artists. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday – 19 & 20 November 2016.

Over the weekend, 15 of UB City’s restaurants will be presented as pop-ups, offering the best of world-cuisine. Not limited to food alone, the festival will also offer gift hampers from UB City’s finest luxury brands. The proceeds from the gift hampers will go to the U&I Trust, a volunteer-driven charitable organization based in Bangalore. The Trust started off in 2011 with the primary vision of serving the underprivileged and empowering them to reach their fullest potential. Today, U&I has Learning Centres functioning in ten major cities across India, impacting the lives of 850+ students with the help of 1000 volunteers.

Commenting on the event, Uzma Irfan – Director, Prestige Group said “With Bangalore on the list of the Top 10 most developed cities in India, it’s no surprise that people from all over the country and the world flock to the city. As a result, it is now fast emerging as a hub for hospitality and food, with international food chains establishing a presence in the city. Participating Restaurants:
The food festival will kick off on 19 November at 1 pm, with food and beverages provided by Amande, Rasovara, Caperberry, Fava, Café Noir, Café Mangii, Subway, Chocolate D’Luxe by Bliss, Singkong, Shiro, Made in Punjab, Toscano, Sancho’s, Sublime House of Tea, and more. Beautiful floral arrangements from Floradelic will also be available for sale.

Cuisines will range from Italian, French, Mediterranean, Mexican, Pan Asian, Modern Indian Fusion to North Indian and Rajasthani. And there will be flavorsome herbal teas and delicious desserts to compliment the meals.

Line-up of Activities: Entertainment begins 7 pm onwards both days.

With art by Sublime Galleria, installations of a massive chef hat, fork & spoon, and LED lights, the interiors of The Collection, UB City, will reflect the festival’s theme, transforming it into a foodie’s paradise for the weekend.
