Source-Omega Validates Singapore Clinical Model for CereNate™ DHA 2012 Launch

Source-Omega today announced CereNate™ DHA is officially accepted for sale in Singapore.

Chapel Hill, NC (USA), Saturday – January 14, 2012 — Source-Omega today announced CereNate™ DHA is officially accepted for sale in Singapore. The validation is from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Singapore, registration number HPRG-HSU-2011-11-0030, in compliance with the Guidelines for Health Supplements.

CereNate DHA is made from an unblended GRAS registered algae oil omega-3 in an algae-based softgel. Novamed Singapore is the CereNate DHA importer. Novamed expects to establish immediate market share with OB/GYN doctors. CereNate DHA branding and licensing were previously announced in press on October 10th, 2011.

Source-Omega’s algae oil supply-chain has continuance confirmed. “We have two valid license agreements with our supplier, with continuance in supply under the new ownership,” said Dr Doughman.

Dr Doughman suggests successful products will naturally identify future opportunities in conventional markets, converting them into profitable models. CereNate DHA will be the first all-vegetarian DHA finished product in Singapore.

Source-Omega Advocates Algae Oil for Diabetics in India, China and the USA in New Publication

Source-Omega, a finished products manufacturer and educational marketing company, announced today their new peer-reviewed publication titled “A Substitute for Fish Oil: Qualifying Algae Oil Omega-3s as a Medical Food,” written by Dr Scott D. Doughman, PhD, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer.

Chapel Hill, NC (USA), Friday – January 13, 2012 — The Source-Omega company’s invited manuscript was accepted after independent international peer review. It is published as an academic chapter in the book Environmental Pollution: Ecology and Human Health, published by Narosa (India) [http://www.narosa.com/books_display.asp?catgcode=978-81-8487-112-8].

Source-Omega maintains its R&D is always expanding and touts its public health research focus. They are seeking to identify the largest populations with the greatest omega-3 need.

Doughman’s collaborations with senior medical and scientific experts in India helped define trends in onset correlated with urbanization and modern dietary changes. He pointed out the greatest incidence of type-2-diabetes occurs in India, China and the USA, respectively (1).

Their report does not discuss relative rates of onset in these countries other than the fact that world diabetes onset is doubling every 30 years, with 200 million people worldwide diagnosed to have this largely preventable disease.

Doughman commented on the quality and safety of algae oil and the global diabetes need. “Based on a full survey of the evidence-based literature, there is a tremendous opportunity for more omega-3 research from university groups. We report how algae oil significantly and safely benefits diabetics with dyslipidemias and elevated postprandial triglycerides, without introducing any known glucose control side effects or drug interactions in this population,” he said.

Lead editor of the book compilation, Dr. Gottipolu R. Reddy, is Professor and Head, Division of Neuroscience, Department of Zoology, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India. Dr. Reddy is known internationally for his research in the area of developmental neurotoxicity of heavy metals. Dr. Reddy and Dr. Doughman met at a 2009 symposia at the historic Bangalore University, Department of Zoology, where each had been invited speakers.

High-DHA algae oil has no environmental pollutants, is natural cultured oil grown in enclosed controlled systems. The safety of high-DHA omega-3 algae oil intake by a type-2-diabetic was previously published on in review by Doughman et al., 2007 (2).

Other Source-Omega publications and articles in India on algae oil topics include peer reviewed manuscripts published in 2008 with the Indian Science Congress and in 2009 by the University of Madras, Department of Zoology. Recently Doughman’s Visiting Faculty work has been written about by the Asian Scientist (3,4,5).

The company suggested that future studies on environmental pollution-effects will likely show significant contributions to diabetes onset worldwide, but acknowledged that algae oil DHA can only address the chronic dietary component of the disease.

Doughman commented, “Progress is being made in educating about the two sides of the type-2-diabetes coin, sugar and fat, not just sugar.”

He then added, “We should not say the cause is the ‘Western diet’. Diabetes is increasing with convenience diets, affluence, urbanization and possibly pollution. To say Western diet invites cultural blame and most diabetics do not eat a Western diet, rather refined sugars, starches and oils all play contributing roles as added ingredients in processed foods made all around the world.”

Current science and consensus indicates eating fish is linked to lower blood glucose concentrations and the related associations to a reduced risk of developing diabetes, discovered as a result of the Prevention with a Mediterranean Diet study conducted by Mercedes Sotos Prieto in Spain through the University of Valencia. The study was conducted with the Valencia population involving 945 people (340 men and 605 women) between the ages of 55 to 80 who had high cardiovascular risk backgrounds.

Source-Omega is a member of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED), a trade group advocating for the ethical and sustainable use of omega-3 fatty acids in nutrition and medicine. GOED’s website [http://www.goedomega3.com] suggests omega-3 prevention measures worldwide could help save $47 trillion in chronic disease costs, including the long term complications and costs associated with the diabetes epidemic.

Pure One Next Gen Omega-3 Announces Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN

Source-Omega, LLC announces Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN(SM) as the second product in their line of Next Gen Plant Based Omega-3™ for premium optimized vegetarian lipids.

Chapel Hill, NC, February 25, 2011 — Source-Omega, LLC announces Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN(SM) as the second product in their line of Next Gen Plant Based Omega-3™ for premium optimized vegetarian lipids. The product is planned for launch on Earth Day 2011.

Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN(SM) contains select algae oil that is rich in DHA n-3 (300 mg) and DPA n-6 (100 mg) plus EPA n-3 (10 mg). Pure One™ DHA plus DPA n-6 and EPA furthers the company’s proprietary 300 mg DHA + 10 mg EPA formulation using algae oil.

The product will be 30 capsules for a one month supply. One capsule per day of the Pure One product is suggested to support brain structure and function in children 4 and over and in adults. Greater levels of DHA plus EPA are required to lower triglycerides for heart health in adults.

“We seek to most completely educate the consumer about how the new Pure One™ omega-3 product supports brain structure and function. The ForeBRAIN product is consistent with our prior observation that Pure One™ algae oil fatty acids are balanced to match the body’s needs. This means that the human brain make-up of omegas is more closely matched by the Pure One™ ForeBRAIN product ratios” said Scott Doughman, PhD, President and Chief Scientist at Source-Omega.

Since before the company was formed, Doughman started looking at how the human brain and organs are made up in terms of omega fatty acids. He said he observed parallels between ratios and levels of omega fats in eggs, breast milk and one algae oil strain in terms of the oil fat balance and the human brain fat composition.

The DPA n-6 lipid in ForeBRAIN comes from the same Non-GMO algae strain as the first Pure One product and is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. The company stated that it has always known the DPA n-6 potential. Source-Omega is the first to distinguish their new 35 percent DHA plus about 15 percent DPA n-6 through the Pure One™ brand.

DHA AND DPA n-6
The human forebrain contains some of the highest levels of DHA in the brain. More is being discovered about the levels of DPA n-6 in the brain, yet no dietary recommendations are currently available. Many experts recommend DHA intake of at least 300 mg per day, but with little discussion of DPA n-6, a non-inflammatory structural lipid normally found in the brain, in human breast milk and in eggs.

The Pure One™ vegetarian form of the “egg lipids” DHA, DPA and EPA together may provide greater brain support than DHA alone, although literature research on the topic is very early. 100 mg DPA n-6 per serving is considered safe and beneficial as a fatty acid that is also present in the general food supply and is safe at higher dosages. The oil is GRAS and infant formula grade, kosher and pure.

“Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN(SM) has emerged out of years of research. Our published review from 2007 discusses the range and ratio of DHA n-3 to DPA n-6 in human breast milk. Optimized DHA3™ ForeBRAIN features the median ratio of 3:1 DHA/DPA found in human breast milk [REF1],” said Doughman.

Chapel Hill, NC, February 24, 2011 — Source-Omega and its Pure One™ branded products are featured on the website of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED).

The company manufactures and markets Pure One™, the first and only US made Optimized Omega-3 DHA + EPA algae oil supplement formulation sold as a finished product. The Pure One™ omega-3 ratio is based on the science of human omega-3 metabolism.

The product range is kosher, vegan, infant formula grade and safe in all people, appropriate for those with type-2 diabetes, fish allergies, dietary restrictions and food sensitivities. Source-Omega uses only gluten-free, soy-free plant-based ingredients, all GMP processed in the USA.

The GOED Newsletter announced Source-Omega as the 108th member, with 5 new members listed after the First GOED Exchange in Salt Lake City, January 2011, attended by Source-Omega’s President and Chief Scientist, Dr Scott Doughman, PhD.

“Our product offerings are rapidly expanding the branded value of DHA+EPA from algae oil for international products,” said Doughman.

The importance of DHA and EPA are well established and partly informed by the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), which suggests “fortified foods and dietary supplements may be useful in providing one or more nutrients that otherwise may be consumed in less than recommend amounts.”

Government bodies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) recognize the qualified use of DHA and EPA recommendations.

Source-Omega’s qualified products meet GOED’s Monogram and strict ethics, which lend industry recognized credentials to the Pure One product.

“The Source-Omega company has made substantial contributions to the industry in only 3 years, plus our beautiful golden omega-3 oil is a leading international brand that drives awareness of pure algae oil for both DHA and EPA from one strain, Pure One, made without any chemical modifications for our differentiated, premium diabetic-friendly, nutraceutical supplement,” said Dr Doughman, who brought the Pure One™ branded innovations to the public in early 2008.

Source-Omega offers private labeling internationally in liquid oil, dietary supplements and medical food. Source-Omega’s plant-based algae omega-3 DHA + EPA products were first formulated by Dr. Scott Doughman in early 2007 while engaged in Omega-3 research at the University of North Carolina’s School of Public Health, funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Source-Omega is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in historic Chatham County, and offers its patent pending omega-3 products made using an advanced vegetarian softgel technology combined with select algae oil grown in the USA.
