Therapist Andrew Walen’s New Book is a Lifeline for Men with Eating Disorders

Man Up to Eating Disorders Shares Author’s Experience to Help Others Struggling with Body Issues

Columbia, MD, August 21, 2014 — Starting early in his childhood, psychotherapist Andrew Walen, LCSW-C, struggled with body image. The first sentence of his recently released new book, Man Up to Eating Disorders, available on Amazon in both paperback and e-book format, captures the shame he felt about his weight and appearance in a few powerful words: “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve struggled with thinking I am ugly and fat.” That shame led Walen to develop serious eating and body image disorders that lasted well into adulthood.

Walen, who founded The Body Image Therapy Center in Columbia, Maryland and practices psychotherapy there, wrote the memoir and self-help book to help other men and boys struggling with eating, exercise and body image disorders understand that they are not alone and that, with support, there is a way to overcome these issues. In the book, he shares his experiences with anorexia, binge eating, exercise bulimia, the underlying origins of these issues in his life and his process of recovery and self-acceptance.

“This book is to help guys come together, create their own tribe, talk recovery in their own language,” explains Walen. “Straight, gay, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, whatever your background – if it’s anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, compulsive exercise, steroid abuse or some combination of any or all of the above; we are all part of the same brotherhood. We are all dealing with the same core issues of belonging, perfectionism, control, identity, independence, and insecurity. The book is for all men looking for some way to break the shame cycle of their disorder and find real connection to themselves and their loved ones.”

In his practice, Walen specializes in working with men with eating disorders, substance abuse, body image issues, anxiety and depression. He has appeared on the Today Show and Baltimore/DC area TV and radio stations, as well as in the New York Times as an expert in the field of eating disorders. In addition, he is the author of numerous articles and leader of workshops on eating disorders, body image disturbance, exercise addiction, and binge eating disorder.

Waldorf Publishing is Excited to be Releasing the New Book “Inside the Godfather”

Waldorf Publishing is excited to be releasing the new book “Inside the Godfather”, Never Before Told Stories of James Brown by His Inner Circle. Written by: Daryl Brown, the son of James Brown and Michael P. Chabries. If you think you know the soul truth about James Brown, think again!

Grapevine, Texas, July 08, 2014 – “Inside the Godfather” is a history changing book, but most importantly Daryl Brown will set the record straight about his dad, James Brown, The Godfather of Soul! Stories that have NEVER been told such as: Did you know that James Brown, The Godfather of Soul was offered over ten million dollars to convert to a certain religion?

Daryl Brown believes that his dad…James Brown, his brother-in-law and his older brother Teddy were murdered.

Despite what Mick Jagger and the movie “Get on Up” would have you believe – James Brown never discharged a weapon during the insurance seminar prior to James Brown’s arrest ending him up in prison. Primary concern of James Brown was that he was being robbed.

Michael Jackson returned from exile in Bahrain to “play” with the body of James Brown while he was in the casket in a room at The Apollo, left alone for over 2 hours.

Susie Brown did not abandon James Brown as the movie “Get on Up” would have you believe. The relationship turned deadly with a murder attempt. Leaving the child was the only way to preserve both lives.

Black police officer Donald Danner believes James Brown was shot at by white police officers because of the color of his skin. 23 shots fired at the truck. Two shots hit the gas-tank in an effort to “lawfully” murder James Brown.

Tomi Rae was stopped by police for being married to a black monkey and the police told her they were going to kill James Brown. Overt racism and threat of “disappearing” or murder was a challenge for both Tomi Rae and Adrienne “James Brown’s 2 wives.”

The Inner Circle will include but not limited to: the Mistress, the Limo Driver, the Widow, the Bodyguard, Band Members, Personal Physician, an Arresting Officer and many more!

The book will be available August 1st, 2014 as a paperback, eBook and Audio book and will feature unique photos, some of which have never been seen. Pre-order your copy now!

We have partnered with VH1, Save The Music Foundation and The Fender Music Foundation and will be donating 5% of book proceeds to both Foundations.

The book will be released simultaneously with the Universal Studios biographical film “Get on Up” produced by Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer to be released in theatres on August 1st 2014.

In Daryl Brown’s own words: “How can Universal Studios distribute a movie about my dad without even talking to those that were closet to my dad including me?”

James Brown, The Godfather of Soul may be the most misunderstood man in the last century. His contributions toward modern music pale in comparison to the role he played in modern history. Brown lifted all races toward the ideals of equality and opportunity. Tragically, while he had the ability to calm the storms of social turmoil – his personal life was a perpetual tempest; sex, drugs, rhythm & blues.

Inside the Godfather brings together, for the first time, Brown’s inner circle. They will correct the distortions of the past and provide the reader a clear understanding of the brilliance and generosity that was James Brown. This book will have you question your assumptions about politics, religion, sports, money and the entire entertainment industry. You will see inside the man. You will never be the same.

The name, James Brown is an international Brand. His music is still being sold in over 110 countries. His face is certainly one of the most recognizable in the world. He is loved and adored by millions, but how many people really knew him?

Two hundred years from now when they mention James Brown, The Godfather of Soul, they will use this book to understand the person, the mind, the genius of one of the greatest entertainers of all time.

Story Eases Children’s Bedtime Fears

Helps to Improve Their Reading Skills.

Houston, TX (USA), November 15, 2013 — Future educator Alicia Lloyd’s new book When the Monsters Are Quiet will help children become more proficient readers while easing their bedtime fears. “The inspiration for the book truthfully came from my own experience,” Lloyd said. “I was sleeping in a different place and hearing all kinds of unfamiliar noises. My boyfriend later asked me how I slept, and I told him ‘eventually, when the monsters were quiet.’”

Published by Halo Publishing International, When the Monsters Are Quiet offers helpful hints for parents to improve reading and calm their child’s fears of darkness. “Alicia Lloyd took a common fear and created a story that will help children face it while also improving their reading proficiency,” said Halo Publisher Lisa Umina.

Lloyd said When the Monsters Are Quiet is a friendly book that will help children realize there are just different noises in the dark, not monsters. The story’s main character is a young boy modeled after Lloyd’s younger brother Zachary, now 13. “He had those big blue eyes and space pajamas,” said the author.

Lloyd said she has wanted to be a teacher since she was a young child. She attended a Teacher Academy while still in high school and after graduation earned an Associate’s Degree in Education from Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania. Presently, Lloyd is in her senior year at West Chester University of Pennsylvania where she is working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Grades Preparation (pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade) and Special Education. She has a strong passion for working with children and is employed as a preschool teacher at Nottingham Country Daycare in Nottingham, Pennsylvania- very close to where she resides in Oxford, Pennsylvania. Lloyd said she has always enjoyed writing and hopes to publish other books in the future.

Siblings of Special Needs Children are “Special” Too

New book offers positive message about self worth of all family members.

Houston, TX (USA), October 31, 2012 — New book offers positive message about self worth of all family members.

Hey, I’m Alex is a new book positively impacting the lives of families with special needs children. Author Leeann Pellegrin chronicles the experience of living with a special needs child through the eyes of a sibling.

The story is based on the author’s personal experience and originally started out as a tale for her youngest of five sons, Alexander, now 10.

“Out of a family of seven, Alex probably sacrifices the most for his older brother, Kyle,” Pellegrin said. Kyle, age 13, has Klinefelter’s syndrome and an extra X chromosome that results in delayed development.

“I was saying to Alex,” explained the author, “Hey buddy, I know what you go through, but remember, God gave us Kyle because he trusted us to take care of him and teach him.”

“And I also wanted him to know that there is something special in everyone and that all children in each family are loved.” “It’s so important for each child in a family to be aware of their own self worth, particularly in one with a special needs child who gets most of the focus,” Pellegrin said.

Hey, I’m Alex is published through Halo Publishing International. Publisher Lisa Umina said this book is unique in its perspective from a sibling of a special needs child. “It has a valuable message that I support and I know it will help families gain insight,” Umina said.

Pellegrin said she hopes Hey, I’m Alex will help to make parents aware of how a special needs child can affect his or her siblings and have a positive impact on the life of families.

The author is a tireless advocate for the disabled and volunteers for the Disability Action Center and the Special Olympics in the Fairmont, West Virginia community where she resides. Her sons range in age from 28 to 10. Pellegrin grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, and returned to her parents’ hometown about 24 years ago. She is employed full time as a medical language specialist.

Ronald Louis Barbour, a military veteran turned entrepreneur and financial blogger, has published a unique new book entitled “Money Success Without Being Rich”.

Clarksville, TN (USA), Thursday – July 05 2012 — Ronald Louis Barbour, a military veteran turned entrepreneur and financial blogger, has published a unique new book entitled “Money Success Without Being Rich.” The book, which is a compilation of blog posts written by Barbour since 2009, promotes simple strategies for managing money effectively.

The thought-provoking book challenges the myth of financial freedom by maintaining that anyone can be successful with money at any income level. “By learning and applying some basic money management principles starting today, I am confident that anyone can be financially free within the next 12 months—regardless of their monthly income,” Barbour says boldly in the book.

Barbour describes financial freedom as a time when a person’s monthly bills are easily covered by their monthly income; they are not living paycheck-to-paycheck; they can take care of all of their financial needs and many of their desires and they have enough money in savings to cover emergencies, help family and friends and donate to charitable organizations. Barbour is passionate about helping family members, friends and others gain control of and stay on top of their finances. “It’s hard for me to sit back and watch people get their utilities turned off, cars repossessed, homes foreclosed on,” he says. “I can’t stand seeing people lose so much because they don’t handle their money properly.”

“Money Success Without Being Rich” offers a simple, but effective solution. It takes a no-nonsense approach to how one should think about and handle money. The book encompasses 174 pages grouped into four areas for easy reading: Covering the Basics, Improving Your Thinking, Improving Your Situation and Getting Ahead. There’s also a Recommended Reading page featuring Barbour’s top 12 books for improving your finances and life.

“Money Success Without Being Rich” isn’t just another financial improvement book. It takes some of the complex concepts surrounding the utilization of money and puts them in plain terms that the average Joe can understand. In short, the book shows how anyone can use his/her income—regardless of the source and amount—in the most effective way possible. “Money Success Without Being Rich” is packed full of interesting and helpful topics, including:

* Four Basic Areas of Finances
* Good People Getting Bad Results
* Prosperity Is a Responsibility
* A Job Is not Enough
* 3 Ways to Protect Yourself from a Bad Economy
* Hard Work Alone Doesn’t Cut It
* Paycheck-to-Paycheck Living Is Dangerous
* The Less We Know, the More We Pay
* There’s a Solution to Every Money Problem
* How to Always Have an Income
* Three Ways to Improve in 2012

With a considerable number of Americans experiencing job loss, eviction/foreclosure, bankruptcy and financial frustration, “Money Success Without Being Rich” is an extremely timely book. It seeks to counter economic challenges with a much-needed message of empowerment and encouragement. It’s a must-read book for anyone who wants to improve his/her financial perspective and wellbeing. “Money Success Without Being Rich” is currently available online at www.lulu.com.

Counselor Teaches Resiliency is Mind Over Matter

High school counselor and former special education teacher, Kasey Kellem knows a lot about facing life challenges.

Cleveland, OH (USA), Saturday – October 22nd, 2011 — High school counselor and former special education teacher, Kasey Kellem knows a lot about facing life challenges. Her new book series, Mind Over Matter, teaches young children how to be resilient to them. “Everyone faces tumultuous times in their lives,” Kellem said. The Cleveland area conselor said she hopes her books will teach children they can get through their gut-wrenching, stressful troubles using a mind over matter technique that is within everyone.

Kellem’s goal is to get the book into the hands of as many children under age six as possible to introduce them to five concepts of resiliency. In order to overcome challenges, the author said, one must “believe, dream, love, relax and laugh.” If they learn these things early on, they will be able to use them the rest of their lives to overcome the many challenges that will come their way, she explained. The first book in her Mind Over Matter series is Believe.

Halo International Publisher Lisa Umina is pleased to publish Kellem’s inspiring series of books. “This series is something that will help children throughout their entire lives,” Umina said.

Kellem said she grew up in a “traditional nuclear family” that included her mom and dad and three sisters in Fairview Park, Ohio. She attended Magnificat High School and earned her bachelor’s degree at Baldwin Wallace College and master’s degree in Special Education at Kent State University. She also has an Educational Specialist Degree in counseling. While growing up, Kellem said she played sports and percussion instruments in the band, and was pretty much the class clown. She knew then that laughter helps people get through some rotten times.

The Normandy High School counselor has devoted her life to helping thousands of children facing adversity how to be resilient. She has spent 22 years in education, 10 as a special education teacher and the past 12 as a high school counselor.

Kellem also is devoted to her husband, Craig, and two step children, Jessica and Joe, as well as her siblings, father and students. The Mind Over Matter (M.O.M.) series is dedicated to Kellem’s late mother, who taught the author how to be resilient.
