Hottest Trend in Interactive Immersive Entertainment, Escape Rooms, Opens on Cannery Row in Monterey

Save the Date for The Escape Room Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting with the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Tuesday, September 26th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Details to Be Announced Soon. Open To the Public

Monterey, CA, August 15, 2017 — Imagine being closed in a room with a half a dozen other people and you’re given just one hour to figure out — through clues, codes and suggestions scattered throughout the room — to solve a murder.

Change the scenario to a bank heist, a hostage situation, a kidnapping, a prison, pirate ship, a space station, and much more, and you have one of the hottest trends in interactive or immersive entertainment — Escape Rooms. They’re based on escape-the-room video and online games, as if the classic board game “Clue” became a live-action game you play with others in real locations.

And now Monterey has its own version — Exodus Escape Room on Cannery Row — founded by entrepreneur Christina Riddoch of Monterey.

“My granddaughter Andrea and I would play these games online together,” says Riddoch, who opened Exodus Escape Room the first weekend in August. “We were walking around Union Station in Kansas City and we saw a live escape room. We did it and we had so much fun. I said, we need to do this in Monterey, so I started looking into it.”

She contacted an owner of an escape room in Los Angeles to discuss franchising and even attended an escape room conference in Niagara Falls. But it was that first experience with a “live” escape room in Kansas City that sealed it for her.

“I was literally on a high from it for days,” she says. “You feel alive again, it was such an experience, it got us outside of ourselves.”

She talked the escape room operator in L.A. into franchising, found a suitable location above and behind The Whaling Station restaurant on Wave Street in Cannery Row, set up two escape rooms there and opened to capacity crowds — “It was nonstop until 11:30 at night that first night,” she says.

Exodus has two rooms, Sherlock’s Study (recommended for four-10 people) and Masquerade Manor (recommended for four-eight people), with the simple goal of working together with other players, crack codes, solve cyphers and study clues within 60 minutes to escape the room.

In Sherlock’s Study, in the midst of a murder investigation, Sherlock Holmes has been kidnapped by the very murderer he was trying to catch. It’s up to the players to piece together the evidence he has left behind in his study. Will you be clever enough to step into Sherlock’s shoes and solve the mystery?

In Masquerade Manor, wealthy and famous composer Ludovico Manin is the prime suspect in a recent, high-profile crime. That night, during his annual Masquerade Ball, is the best chance to look for evidence against him. Disguised as guests, players must infiltrate the ball, find proof of Manin’s guilt, and leave without being detected. Can you find the stolen object and escape in time?

The rooms are monitored by video cameras with audio. If players fail to solve the mystery and escape, they can return to take another crack at it for half-price. Riddoch says she hopes to open a third room with a bank heist theme.

“Ours is family-friendly since we’re on Cannery Row,” says Riddoch, referring to some of the more gruesome or frightening escape rooms out there. “I think Cannery Row needs this.”

Originating in Japan as Real Escape Game (REG) in 2007, Seattle-based Puzzle Break became the first American-based escape room company in 2013. They are patterned after video or online games such as Zelda, Myst and Crimson Room. There are estimated to be more than 3,000 escape room venues worldwide. There’s even a website directory of escape rooms (escaperoomdirectory.com) and people who are fans of the games are called Escape Room Enthusiasts.

“There is a growing consumer demand for social play experiences that are live and unique and can’t be repeated,” Sam Roberts, assistant director of the Interactive Media and Games division at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, told the Los Angeles Times. Roberts says that immersive entertainment will be the next frontier of gaming — “the future of play spaces,” he says.

“It’s just so much fun,” says Riddoch. “It’s great for team-building, it’s fun playing it together with friends. It’s such a great experience.”

Kenya Elections
Kenya has just concluded its General Election in August, 2017. The tourism industry is set to compensate in the coming months from setback of negative reporting especially from international media channels. In some instances this is not the true state on the ground and only affects some areas cluster and NOT the whole country. Most tourist visited areas are not affected. We urge travelers to seek clarification from credible sources of the Kenya Foreign Missions in their Home country or Ministry of Foreign affairs of Kenya. However, we are optimistic that the work done in the past by Hon. Najib Balala and his teams all over the world will not decrease but increase in the coming months and years.

Video-in-motion Unlocker SmartTV from Mods4cars for BMW Vehicles in a New Design

Mods4cars has reworked the design of their retrofit SmartTV modules. The Video-in-motion unlocker for BMW are now delivered in a new housing. After installation, the passenger is able to use and operate the TV and DVD system during the drive. As the SmartTV Box is firmly installed in the vehicle, the function remains permanently.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), August 11th, 2017 — The company Mods4cars now offers its TV/DVD unblocker, SmartTV, for BMW in a new housing. The retrofitted TV module enables the activation of TV and DVD playback while driving. This allows the passenger to use the entertainment technology and play DVDs on longer journeys.

“With our SmartTV control, we offer a well thought-out and professional solution for TV unlocking,” explains PR spokesman, Sven Tornow. The SmartTV module is firmly installed in the vehicle, which is why the functions are maintained even after inspection by a workshop. A button combination on the steering wheel activates and deactivates the TV unblocker.

The manufacturer Mods4cars has now optimized the design of the SmartTV modules. The housing, designed exclusively for Mods4cars, is 30% narrower and can be installed more easily in the vehicle. Two LEDs provide an installation aid and indicate correct installation. Less plastic and the absence of screws make the new case more environmentally friendly.

A standard USB port is attached to the SmartTV module. This allows the installation of software updates, which Mods4cars provides free of charge. With this the Video-in-motion unlocker always remains up-to-date and does not have to be removed for an update. The SmartTV control can be deactivated as needed. Since no cables are cut through during installation, an untraceable removal is possible at any time.

The Video-in-motion unlocker SmartTV can be used for the BMW models 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 Series, X5 and Z4. In addition, the TV unblocker is also offered to car brands like Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Skoda and Volkswagen. The SmartTV module is available from 169,00 Euro + tax.

Mods4cars is also the manufacturer of the SmartTOP, soft top control systems. Produced since 2001, the clever cabriole modules allow the opening and closing of the convertible top while driving with only a touch of a button, as well as the operation of the roof via the original vehicle key from a distance. They are available for all common convertible and roadster models.

An illustration of the Video-in-motion unlocker can be found here:

About Mods4cars:
Mods4cars was founded in 2002 from the idea to add a highly demanded feature to the otherwise almost perfect Porsche Boxster: Comfort One-Touch roof operation while driving at slow speeds. The resulting product offered not only that, but also allowed quick and easy installation by just swapping out a relay box, thus leaving no traces and no permanent changes on the vehicle. The first SmartTOP roof controller was born.

The success of their first products in Germany and Europe prompted them in late 2004 to move operations to the USA, to be able to serve the American market as well as all other English speaking countries such as Australia, UK and South Africa from one central location. Their business has grown to a full-fledged international corporation with an office in Las Vegas and a full line of innovative products as well as distributors and installation partners all over the globe.

Being highly specialized in the development and distribution of aftermarket roof- and comfort controllers since 2002 allows them to offer an unsurpassed level of competence and product quality. Their main goal is optimization of each individual product to a maximum in compatibility, usability and intuitive operation. They put greatest effort into development and quality checks of all their products to achieve this goal and meet all expectations of their customers.

The extraordinary success of their products is also based on the great communication with their customers, which usually already starts for each new product during the development and prototyping phase.

As Far back in History as the mid 1700’s certain Experimenters have known that there are certain things that can kill Microbes and that had value in stopping infections but were being blocked from the public

The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information.

Horton, AL, August 10, 2017 – The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information. You may have not heard of the Rife machine nor of the Lahkovsky MultiWave Oscillator, as well as many other devices because the medical profession and the FDA work hard to keep people from leaqrning about these devices, even to the point of destroying historically significant objects. There is also a continuous stream if lies and misinformation claiming that things such as colloidal silver do not work.

As far back as the 1750’s, the first experimenters discovered that even low levels of electricity could kill the newly discovered microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi and resultingly could stop many diseases. The medical industry was extremely against such use because it was not profitable to them. One of these early experimenters was John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. Over a period of time, he set up and operated 3 clinics in London that used mostly electricity combined with natural therapies to treat and heal the poor. The clinics were such a resounding success that the medical authorities tried extensively to shut them down. You can read more about this in The Electric Cure.

Since the time of John Wesley, there has been a stream of electric and electronic products that have been offered to help relieve pain and suffering, as well for fighting disease and illness in the human body. The FDA has stepped in at every turn to suppress the products in favor of expensive and profitable medicines. In the 1870’s a product called “The Medical Electric Battery” was introduced and was available up into the 1930’s when the FDA stepped in and shut them down. There were even more advanced products such as the Rife machine that has a long list of successes claimed by users. Not only has the FDA forced these products off of the market, they have suppressed the information about these and even destroyed the original products whenever there have been able to get away with it.

Another significantly important issue is the suppression of colloidal silver. Silver has been used for centuries to fight unknown causes of death, including microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi. Yet the current medical profession even goes so far as trying to tell people that it does not work and that it can turn you blue ( which is true if you take way too much of the wrong form ). There are many many thousands of users of colloidal silver, yet there are only perhaps 3 or 4 who have actually turned blue. A current improvement to the use of colloidal silver is a product called Nano Silver.

At issue is the current situation in the medical industry where many people are dying every day from infections, both, those aquired in the hospital and those which are established before going to the hospital. These infections are difficult to stop with antibiotics because antibiotics are slow in working and in some cases may even suppress the immune system and cause other problems such as liver failure and kidney failure. Yet from reported experiences, the use of LVPEF ( low voltage pulsed electric fields ) can actually destroy or incapacitate many microbes in minutes or within a few hours of usage. The off-label use of these products can possibly save the lives of your friends, family members, or even your own.

What can be done? First, contact your congerssman or congresswoman and make them aware that the FDA is using its power to suppress potentially life saving technology. There are thousands of signatures and comments at http://paradevices.com/petition_link.html where you can add yours. Lastly, contact the FDA and let them know that this technology needs to be made available for the medical industry to use as well as for private individuals to use on themselves. Currently, this technology is used to kill microbes in water such as in cooling towers and backyard ponds. Similar technology is use to kill microbes in juices and drinks as well as elsewhere in the food industry.

Why should people die just because the medical industry does not want to allow this type of prduct for the sake of their own profits. The right to live is a basic human right and no one should be denied access to this type of product when life is at risk but that is the very reason that the FDA uses to justify preventing public access to these products. Their rule is that if it can save lives, it must be subjected to the most strengent and expensive regulations and requirements.

Notice: These devices are currently sold only for the experimental use of killing microbes in water. Any other usage is considered to be off-label and such usage is at the discretion of the user. This is not a Medical device and is not represented as such. The information above is posted only to highlight the potential of such use and to create public awareness.

Emblematic Artwork by Juan Luis Perez at Variations on the Same Subjects: People, Nature and Geometry Exhibition Curated by Mariavelia Savino

Special Artwork by Juan Luis Perez at Variations on the Same Subjects: People, Nature and Geometry Exhibition, curated by Mariavelia Savino, presented by Contemporary Art Projects USA.

Miami, FL, USA — An emblematic piece initiates the path throughout the exhibition “Variations on the same Subjects: People, Nature and Geometry” presented by Contemporary Art Projects USA and hosted by the ArtsPark @ Hollywood, FL. A large painting by the artist Juan Luis Perez, who was born in Cuba and lives in Miami, FL, Sombras de mi Pasado (Shadows of my Past) Illusions Series, is shown at the entrance of the space. Why? …because this artwork merges several concepts of the overall exhibition, in the intellectual, the creative and the technical ambits. As a curator, I believe that every artist is a communicator, who translates his/her own experience to the current moment in order to state his/her beliefs and messages to the present viewer, as well as to the future generations that later will contemplate the work. This particular artwork has figurative, abstract and geometric elements, creating connections with the natural, the human and the architectonical. Then, each artist is by talent and vocation an innovator, which does not mean that they would not use previous influences or inspiration by other artists. But, the important point, as it is for this artwork and for the artist in the exhibition, everyone is, and must be at the end, unique and original. Finally, any technique used has to be excellent and well managed. Well, I live now the artist to speak by his own. Juan Luis Perez says: “I consider myself away from trends. I create guided by my truest inspiration from total freedom of choice. Completely self-taught, I don’t believe in academic dogmas or market claims. I change style as if changing clothes. Art is passion, fun, great adventure. I use acrylic, oil, charcoal, graphite, resins, gesso, alcohol, and newspapers sheets, love monochromatic tones, rough or dynamic strokes, turning the spatula in my work’s biggest protagonist. I returned to my roots, expressing a traditions’ rich culture filled with energy from pure imagination. My interest revolves around human beings and their conflicts. My works are profound social portraits of a generation. I’m concerned in cultural dialogues between East and West, societies which, despite their differences, belong to the same condition: human.” – “…I use truth and fantasy bringing the viewer a sense of purpose, passion, realism as well as a timeless feel. Through abstract expressions I aim to achieve the emotional compass humanity reveals in all phases of life as a poetic evolution. With every stroke of the brush and a lyrical composition of visual effects I create a dramatic transformation of old and new …a profound connection to express the visuals of my soul.” – “I try to be unique in my own individual way, my work is a fusion of all my lived experiences and skills & techniques gathered over the years, combined to bring a personal expression of energy and a message to myself with a personal stamp that not even I can duplicate. Sometimes, I depict sceneries of natural culture with organic resources such as burlap, tree seeds, bark, raw rope, yarn to express what is available rather than what’s academic. However, from my early childhood Sandro Botticelli was the culprit of my love for visual art, and as a college student, José María Mijares, a Cuban vanguard artist of the San Alejandro School of Arts, was a personal friend and mentor in my beginnings. As I matured in my process, Antoni Tapies as well as Julian Schnabel became my greatest influences. The process of my work differs between installations, sculptures, and paintings. I can start my paintings several pieces at once and employ layers over a period of days. Sometimes I set them aside and finish months later, as they come complete in my mind and eyes. Others are finished rather fast, as I love the turnout of the accidents discovered in the process that then become as a rationalized finish. There are three key elements that separate free Caribbean and Latin American art from socially restrained Cuba and its artists: 1) A primary distinction for Cuban Art is the cultural inheritance of the Afro-Cuban culture and strong Spaniard influence; 2) The diverse level of creativity due to its social lack of resources elevates its inventiveness and passion for expression; 3) The inability to speak out in freedom promotes a more intense visual message.” To conclude, as in this exhibit every artist comes from a different place, background and experience, each artwork will communicate its own message to the public.

The exhibition will take place from August 19 – September 13, 2017.
Monday thru Thursday 11:00a.m. to 8:00p.m.
Closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Carmel, CA, August 7, 2017 — Renowned African Stone Sculptor Moses Nyanhongo, Carmel Sculptors Terrie Bennett and Steven Whyte Will be doing Live Sculpture Demonstrations and Displaying their New Works at Devendorf Park and their respective Galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea Sunday, August 27th, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m

Nyanhongo is a renowned fine art stone sculptor of Zimbabawe’s Shona Sculpture Movement, which has captivated art lovers and collectors the world over. Bennett is a second-generation sculptor who has been sculpting professionally for more than 30 years and exhibits at Bennett Sculpture Carmel. Whyte is an internationally renowned sculptor who specializes in massive monuments, including national memorial monuments to Bob Hope, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Steinbeck.

To celebrate the opening of “Life in Stone,” an exhibition of over 40 new stone sculptures at Gallery Sur in Carmel, the internationally celebrated Nyanhongo will demonstrate his stone-sculpting talents at the free event in Devendorf Park in downtown Carmel. Joining him that day will be Bennett, who will also conduct a live sculpting demonstration in the park.

Just a few blocks away, at his gallery on Dolores between 5th and 6th, Whyte will also be holding a live sculpting demo. Organizers of the event are encouraging people to visit all three demonstrations to see different techniques in use by each artist.

All live demos take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, and are all free and open to the public.

Moses, part of the well-known Nyanhongo family of stone sculptors, will show the various techniques used in their distinctive sculpting process and will share the deep cultural and spiritual traditions expressed in the stone.

Gallery Sur in Carmel is a North American leader in offering original, one-of-a-kind Zimbabwean stone sculpture. The new “Life in Stone” exhibition, opening Aug. 27 at Gallery Sur, includes Shona sculpture ranging from important traditional works by older, revered artists to contemporary, purely abstract works from younger, internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean artists.

“For the past 23 years, I’ve had the pleasure of representing a handful of world-class stone sculptors from Zimbabwe,” says Braden Coolidge, artist representative and curator of the show. “Each year I hand-pick a selection that focuses on the very finest quality by a select few artists. This year’s collection is truly stunning. Clearly the most diverse and dynamic body of work I have ever seen, and in 23 years I’ve seen a lot!”

Shona artists often draw inspiration intuitively from their traditional culture: the mythology, folklore, rituals and beliefs in ancestral spirits that remain strong influences in contemporary Zimbabwean life. The integral roles of women in society are also a significant source of inspiration, often expressing the importance of the mother and child relationship and the respect for the elder’s wisdom. Both the physical and spiritual relationship with nature is another important theme, reflecting the country’s deep rural roots.

Utilizing beautiful stones in various colors, unearthed by the artists from remote mines and quarries, their distinctive sculptures are hand-carved using timeworn techniques, without power tools, maintaining a close relationship to the stone.

The Shona Sculpture Movement, which first began in the 1950s, is named after the largest tribe engaged in stone sculpting in Zimbabwe. The name Zimbabwe is derived from the Shona word meaning “house of stone.” In the late 1960s, the new art movement born in Africa was celebrated at the famed Musee Rodin in Paris and Shona sculptors caught the attention of the art world.

Bernard Matemera, one of the founders of the Shona movement described the process of working with stone like this:

“The spirits are everywhere in the air, in the rocks. A rock is like a fruit — like an orange or a banana. You don’t eat them without peeling them first. It needs to be opened to be eaten. I open the rocks. The fruit is inside.”

About Steven Whyte

Whyte studied at the prestigious Sir Henry Doulton School of Sculpture, which served as a catalyst for a remarkable career in portrait sculpture. The sculptor’s accomplishments in the field were recognized when he was elected Vice President of the Society of Portrait Sculptor.

Whyte’s accomplishments as a portrait sculptor have made him sought-after for public memorials and installations both in England and throughout the United States with subjects ranging from local miners, to soldiers and fire fighters.

He is credited with more than 40 life-size and large bronze figures in Britain and the United States including The Silverdale Mining Memorial; The Lance Sergeant Jack Baskeyfield VC Tribute; The Spirit of 1948; the Dr. John Roberts Monument; the sixteen figure-multi-million dollar National Military Tribute to Bob Hope for San Diego; two over life-size monuments to Dr. Martin Luther King, and a twice-life size portrait figure of 1957 Heisman Trophy Winner John David Crow for Texas A&M at College Station.

In May 2011, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department unveiled Whyte’s four-figure tribute to the fallen deputies of the sheriff’s department. The year 2014 saw the unveiling of nine 110% life-size bronze figures for the Cannery Row Monument, in Monterey, a life size (11-foot) Jumbo the Elephant for Tufts University in Massachussetts, and in 2014, installed the largest single bronze sculpture for any college or university anywhere, the $1.7 million Aggie War Hymn Monument for Texas A&M University.

Whyte was awarded the Sports Artist of the Year in 2016 by The United States Academy of Sports and The American Sport Art Museum & Archives. Also in 2016, The Smithsonian Institute chose his portrait bust of U.S. Congressman John Conyers for National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.

Whyte’s edition work features the drama and evocativeness of his monuments combined with a more personal point of view.

Whyte works in an open studio gallery in the historic artist community of Carmel, California.

Fulham Joins CABA Together to Promote Intelligent Lighting as Part of Next Generation Building Management

CABA membership gives Fulham another conduit to advance global standards for smart lighting as part of building automation systems.

Hawthorne, CA, USA — Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, has joined the Continental Automated Building Association (CABA), a global not-for-profit group dedicated to the advancement of connected home and intelligent building technology. Fulham has been developing standalone intelligent lighting management systems to supplement the company’s comprehensive line of LED lighting products. Participating in CABA will give the company a voice in the development and application of open standards for building management, especially standards for intelligent lighting controls.

While actively developing its own lighting control, Fulham also recently expanded its lighting control offering with the acquisition of Control Network Solutions (CNS), including the elitedali™ smart lighting control and management system based on the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) lighting communications standard. Fulham recognizes a growing international demand for smart lightning solutions such as elitedali, which provides total control over LED fixtures including reducing input current, managing output to optimize LED longevity, adjusting lighting to dim at a constant level, and adjusting power output to accommodate different light sources. DALI is only one of the lighting and device control standards that are shaping intelligent lighting platforms.

“The future of lighting lies in standardized systems controls, and CABA membership gives Fulham an opportunity to listen to the voices of end users as we develop products for the next generation of intelligent lighting,” said Russ Sharer, Vice President of Global Marketing and Business Development for Fulham. “It also gives Fulham access to the latest building management initiatives as well as innovators who are shaping the future of building automation. Joining with CABA gives us a more active role in shaping standards for next-generation intelligent lighting and building technologies.”

Fulham also has been working with Tvilight, a Dutch technology company that develops sensors, wireless controls, and lighting management software to deliver programmable, wireless outdoor LED lighting systems. Using Fulham’s WorkHorse LED outdoor drivers with Tvilight’s real-time broadband mesh network applies an Internet of Things (IoT) approach to lighting control. Fulham’s outdoor LED drivers are fully integrated with SkyLite, Tvilight’s intelligent wireless control system, and also are compatible with CityManager, Tvilight’s cloud-based Smart City management platform.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Fulham into CABA as our latest representative in intelligent lighting,” said Ronald J. Zimmer, CABA President and CEO. “One of our most crucial functions is to educate industry stakeholders about the potential of connected buildings and the potential of interoperability as part of building controls. Lighting controls continue to be a major concern for many of our members and we anticipate Fulham will assume an important role in advancing the conversation around intelligent lighting.”
