Future Facilities Announces New White Paper: The Benefits of Supply Air Temperature Control in the Data Center

Using the Virtual Facility to illustrate the point, David King demonstrates the considerable benefits of controlling air temperature on the supply of the air handler rather than the return. By doing so, temperatures being supplied to IT equipment are more predictable, offering the potential for raised water temperatures and reduced data center running costs.

London, UK, November 18, 2010 — “Controlling temperature in the data center is critical to achieving maximum uptime and efficiency,” says David King, Consultant Engineer at Future Facilities. ( http://www.futurefacilities.com ) “But while data center layouts have moved swiftly to segregate hot and cool airstreams, typical air handler strategies are still rooted in the mainframe and comms room principles that have been in use since the last century.”

The importance of airflow management and close temperature control has become increasingly evident as power and equipment density in the data center has risen. Legacy cooling design strategies have proven unable to meet the cooling capacity requirements of blades and other compact servers. But even as cooling system design issues are addressed the question is raised as to whether temperature is being controlled in the correct place to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.

Controlling the temperature in the data centre largely takes return air temperature as an indication of the ambient air temperature in the space. It is often forgotten that the purpose of cooling is to provide air of an acceptable temperature and humidity to IT equipment at its inlet. It seems obvious then that return air temperature is not an appropriate measure of the IT inlet temperature. Whilst this is not a new idea, adoption of the strategy has been slow.

To model the thesis, a computer-generated Virtual Facility has been constructed. The Virtual Facility is an accurate 3D representation of the data center, incorporating ACUs, IT equipment, PDUs, racks and other familiar data center equipment. Using Future Facilities’ ( http://www.futurefacilities.com ) 6SigmaDC software for data center design and operation, CFD analysis of the space provides an accurate account of the thermal performance of the facility layout. The benefit of modelling in real life is that decisions regarding equipment placement can be tested to ensure thermal effectiveness before any work is carried out in the data center, reducing risk to the load.

In “The Benefits of Supply Air Temperature Control in the Data Center“, a Virtual Facility is created for a typical 652m2 data center with 200 equipment racks, which is modelled under various load conditions. The Virtual Facility is used to measure thermal efficiency and effectiveness when the cooling system is set up using return air control, and to test the improvements which can be obtained controlling supply air temperature with a sensor in the supply air stream.

The paper demonstrates that there are significant advantages switching to a supply temperature control strategy. Since many modern cooling units are set up for this approach, or can be modified very simply, the cost and control improvements make a compelling argument for its implementation. The strategy is able to manage an expanding IT estate, keeping server temperature within a tighter band and enabling more predictable headroom between chilled water and supply air temperature.

The potential for energy and running cost savings are facility-specific, and data center managers are encouraged to contact Future Facilities to discuss how these can be modelled and maximized. For a copy of the new White Paper “The Benefits of Supply Air Temperature Control in the Data Center” or to find out more about the Virtual Facility and 6SigmaDC data center design and operations software suite please visit http://www.futurefacilities.com or call Future Facilities on +44 (0)207 840 9540.

In WideWorld This Week Aron Ralston And 127 Hours That Changed His Life; Jimmy Chin Talks Photography And We Visit An Eco-Lodge In Ecuador

Three great stories of adventure and travel to raise the spirits and provide inspiration

London, UK, November 18, 2010 — Three great stories of adventure and travel to raise the spirits and provide inspiration: Aron Ralston’s incredible story asks real questions about what we humans are capable of; Jimmy Chin has literally put his life on the line in his quest to make the ultimate extreme sports photograph; and on a slightly different tack, indigenous Ecuadorians are saving their environment through eco-tourism.

127 Hours in the life of Aron Ralston:
In 2003, Aron Ralston went hiking in Utah, but climbing down a narrow slot in Blue John Canyon, a boulder became dislodged, crushing his right forearm and pinning it against the wall. For five and a half days, he struggled to get free until he was forced to do the unthinkable: One hundred and twenty seven hours into his ordeal he amputated his own arm. British filmmaker Danny Boyle has chronicled the events that day in a new film, 127 hours. This week, Ralston tells WideWorld his incredible story of survival.

Hands on with Chin:
This week WideWorld ( http://www.wideworldmag.com ) sent US writer Nicolette Mallow to Washington D.C., to meet 37-year-old National Geographic photographer and explorer Jimmy Chin. Chin is a sponsored athlete for North Face and in his career has photographed climbers thousands of feet up in the air, glued to ice-capped mountains and with storm clouds billowing in the distance. WideWorld also discovered he has an outstanding ability to capture shadows and light, sunrises and sunsets and nature at its most breathtaking.

An Amazon eco-adventure:
Eco-tourism is going from strength to strength; from hotel construction to how the fish are caught for tourists’ dinner. But the Sani Lodge resort in Ecuador is taking environmental thinking one step further. The whole business is run by a village of indigenous Kichwa, and with the help of visiting tourists, they’re managing to save the surrounding forests.

Texas Car Title Loans – Making it Easier for Consumers to Get the Cash They Need

With the economy in the shape that it is in today and the number of people in the nation who have hit the unemployment lines in the past year or so, getting a bank loan is literally like pulling teeth. If you do not have absolutely perfect credit then most banks simply will not even talk to you today. Those who live in Texas however can get cash when they need it quickly and easily. Texas title loans are a big business and allow consumers to get cash in exchange for their car title. Of course, once the loan is paid off then the consumer gets his or her car title back. Although many loan stores who offer this service charge fairly high rates, Texas Car Title Loans does not.

This company has been providing the lowest interest rates on title loans Texas for the past decade or so. Consumers who are interested in obtaining a Texas title loan simply have to visit the site at http://www.tx-cartitleloans.com and fill out a simple two minute application form. Once the form is submitted the consumer will be notified of the amount of the loan that is being offered and instructions on where to go to finish the process. Texas Car Title Loans currently has hundreds of office locations around the state of Texas including those in the larger cities and many in smaller, more rural areas.

While the actual amount of each loan will vary, loans have been granted for as much as $50,000 in some cases with very low interest rates. The amount of the loan for each specific consumer will depend on the value of his or her car. Those interested in obtaining a Texas title loan can check out the Kelly Blue Book website to get information on what their car may be worth. Credit checks are not performed which gives those with bad credit the exact same chance of obtaining a loan as those with perfect credit.

Questions on the online application form simply include those that are relevant to the vehicle that the consumer plans to use to apply for the loan. You will have to provide information such as the make and model of the vehicle and whether or not you have a lien-free title. This vehicle information is what will ultimately determine the amount of the loan and an instant message is sent automatically after the online application form is submitted.

Smoke Relief Electronic Cigarettes: America’s No.1 electronic cigarette is now available in the UK

America’s most popular brand of electronic cigarettes, Smoke Relief, is now available in the UK.

electronic cigarette , e cigarettes are a way for smokers to enjoy smoking without having to worry about the negative health effects of conventional cigarettes.

It is not the nicotine in tobacco cigarettes that is harmful it is all the smoke and tar that is generated when you burn them that causes cancer.

Safe smoke

Smoke Relief electronic cigarette combine the kind of smoke (in fact a vapour) which you get in nightclubs with flavouring and nicotine to deliver a nicotine hit without any harmful side effects.

Crucially the experience is just like smoking. Smoke Relief electronic cigarettes genuinely look and feel like tobacco cigarettes. And the whole smoking experience is very similar electronic cigarettes are just a bit heavier because they contain a battery.

America’s most popular electronic cigarette

The UK market has already seen some cheap electronic cigarette imports but now America’s number 1 electronic cigarette is available for the first time. Smoke Relief electronic cigarettes are popular for several reasons:

1.They have the best charger box.

2.They generate the most smoke.

3.They taste the best available in tobacco, cherry, apple, vanilla, menthol and chocolate flavours.

4.They look and feel just like a tobacco cigarette.

More and more people are starting to smoke electronically because you get all the look and feel of a tobacco cigarette without the harmful side effects. The smoke generated is actually vegetable glycerine vapour which is absorbed into the body and metabolised like sugar. In fact, there is no reason why athletes could not smoke electronic cigarettes it would not impair their performance.

About 80% cheaper

Electronic cigarettes also work out a lot cheaper than tobacco cigarettes. You can either buy disposables which work out equivalent to £3.50 a pack or you can buy a rechargeable kit and separate cartridges which works out equivalent to £1 to £1.50 a pack.

No bad breath and legal too

Another benefit of electronic cigarettes is that you won’t get stained fingers or bad breath and electronic cigarettes are technically legal to use on public transport, workplaces and in pubs and restaurants. But don’t expect not to be confronted and to have a bit of explaining to do however

Right now new customers can get £20 off a rechargeable kit by using the discount code LAUNCH on the Smoke Relief UK site.

Prepay Nation Wins Award For Innovative Business Model At Women 2.0 Conference

Award recognizes Prepay Nation’s impressive established network of key relationships and revolutionary approach to international micropayments.

San Francisco, CA, November 17, 2010 — Prepay Nation, one of the foremost providers of instant account refills for foreign prepaid mobile operators, ( http://www.prepaynation.com ) was recognized at the 2010 Women 2.0 Pitch Night event for its innovative business model. The fast-growth company presented its platform and operations to an audience of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry-leaders, showcasing the groundbreaking potential usage of their platform to send small currency denominations, or micropayments, across international boundaries without bank accounts or fees. The award recognizes Prepay Nation’s role as market innovator and premier provider in the up-and-coming cross-border micropayment service industry.

The annual Women 2.0 Pitch Night competition drew 130 qualified applicants this year, with contenders from New Zealand, Turkey, Korea, Germany, Canada, Russia, Israel, Brazil, the U.K. and the U.S. Each participant business model was evaluated by investors, with a select few finalists invited for the live pitch night at the Women 2.0 conference in San Francisco.

The conference is attended by industry-leaders, entrepreneurs, angel investors, and venture capitalists, and focuses on the growth and impact of women-owned businesses in the Mobile, Web, and Clean-tech industries. Pitch Night presentations from the Mobile track in which Prepay Nation was a finalist were judged by executives from ATT, Mayfield Fund and General Catalyst.

Prepay Nation ( http://www.prepaynation.com ) generated significant buzz throughout the conference, not only because their nearly zero-overhead platform allows seamless interface between mobile carriers and the retailers who sell refills to their subscribers, but also because that platform has the potential to break new ground as an international micropayment remittance system.

Currently, Prepay Nation’s platform ( http://www.prepaynation.com ) is utilized by leading mobile operators in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia to provide consumers in the United States with the ability to send instantaneous refills of mobile airtime to the phones of prepaid subscribers on their international networks. Expatriates traveling, living, and working within the United States can take advantage of this system to provide much-needed support to friends and family back home, in the form of mobile airtime. However, by tapping into “mobile money” ecosystems in the developing world, the Prepay Nation platform and network of operators and distributors can be used by expatriates without a bank account to send small amounts of actual currency to their friends and family back home, instantly and without fees.

By bypassing the hassles and cost of traditional money remittance systems such as Western Union, Prepay Nation ( http://www.prepaynation.com )addresses a critical pain-point in the immigrant community. Not only can expats now support their friends and family by remotely and instantly refilling their mobile phones with minutes, but using the connectivity established by Prepay Nation, they will soon be able to send spendable currency for use in the many developing regions where the mobile money system is established and accepted.

“This is very promising,” said Gautam Gupta of General Catalyst Partners. “Prepay Nation leverages several current trends in the mobile ecosystem with this remittance service, and they are moving fast.”

The potential for such a simple, instantaneous, zero-fee remittance service ranges from the support of friends and family in other countries, to gifts and critical connectivity and disaster relief. “During the recent earthquake in Haiti,” says Jessica Bishop, co-founder of Prepay Nation, “significant numbers of Haitians in the U.S. sent mobile refills to their friends and family back home, keeping them connected throughout the aftermath. Because of our relationships with these international operators, the disruption of the retail infrastructure in the recipient’s country did not affect replenishments. Haitians in the US simply took cash to one of our partner retailers here, and their loved ones in Haiti had minutes available on their phones instantly.”

Shaherose Charania, founder and chief executive of Women 2.0, praised Prepay Nation for moving to leverage their technology in novel and savvy ways. “Rather than reinventing the wheel, they’re using a top up approach that helps people transfer value to each other, or deliver micro-payments without the expenses and complexities of a wire transfer or money order,” she said.

Bishop said that the response and interest from the investment community present at the event was overwhelming and was a further validation of Prepay Nation’s innovative approach to international micropayments.

She also stressed that beyond their model and technology, their extensive reach added significant value. “We currently operate a fully-functional processing platform, interconnected with several key mobile operators in Mexico, Latin America, Asia and Africa,” said Bishop. “Our distribution cuts across a wide variety of channels – retail merchant outlets, online portals, mobile apps for smart phones, mobile money companies, even processors of gift cards.”

With mobile operator connectivity on four continents and distribution channels already connected to the Prepay Nation platform and more joining on every day, the fast growth of this company promises to be even faster.

About Prepay Nation:
Prepay Nation is a fast growth company in the business of enabling micropayments from one person to another across international borders. Prepay Nation utilizes the prepaid mobile ecosystem to transfer values in the form of international airtime remittance. With mobile operator partnerships in Central America, South America, Caribbean, Asia, and Africa, and a varied distribution channel spanning the US, Canada, and Middle East, Prepay Nation offers its innovative services to expatriates who financially support their loved ones back home. Prepay Nation’s unique business model, highly scalable processing platform, and interconnectivity with mobile operators, allows for instantaneous and no-fee transfers for the consumers and an opportunity to generate significant revenues for the distributors.
