Keeping Safe From Car Accidents this Halloween

October means cooler weather with more of us spending time walking outside in the fresh air.  This is especially true during the later part of the month for Halloween.  Although walking through the streets of your neighborhood Trick or Treating is fun, it is important to take proper precaution to keep you and your family safe from car accidents.  Most importantly, make sure you can be seen by traffic.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that children are four times more likely to be struck by a motor vehicle on Halloween than any other day of the year.  Halloween is a particularly deadly night due to drunk drivers. According to NHTSA, in 2008, 58 percent of all highway fatalities across the nation on Halloween night involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.

In order to help you and your family be safe this Halloween season, I purchased Pedestrian Safety Lights that I am giving out for free.  As seen in the picture below, it is a large red reflector with a flashing light that attaches by a clip to you or a child’s clothing.  This will help the wearer be better seen at night by oncoming traffic.  I highly recommend that you use it while you enjoy your Halloween night.  Please call my office to schedule a time to come by and pick yours up now while supplies last.

Have a happy and car accident safe Halloween.
