Ideas In Elevating Resources For Non-Profit Organizations

Nowadays, many non-profit organizations need fresh ideas in fundraising. Perhaps, the reason is the fact that more and more people are having a hard time giving their money. Many individuals aren’t interested in the old ways on how NPOs can raise money. Thus, NPOs must look for ways to raise more money without losing the interest of the public. With this article, NPOs will know how they can do it.

It would be easier for NPOs to draw more attention from the crowd if the event they hold stays true to the organization’s mission and goals. Furthermore, if they have a popular speaker that they could ask to work for free then the event could attract more crowds even if the crowd would have to pay for tickets just to attend the event. Sometimes, NPOs would employ the free services of famous celebrities, actors or singers. There can be a show for the public where they have to pay for tickets just to attend.

NPOs can even collect items that can be put on auction. This fundraising event is among the most successful fundraising ideas and it is among the most popular ideas as well. NPOs can still sell items for fundraising. These items have to be similar from those sold at a grocery store but it would be better if these items are handcrafted and are cheaper than the regular ones.

Fundraising events will not be successful without the public knowing; there should be ads on radio, television or perhaps the Internet. NPOs must provide a few incentives to any amount donated to them by individuals so that more are encouraged to join the cause. Another idea would be to hold a contest that is being publicized widely in order to motivate people to give. Of course, any friendly competition will do such as a baking contest, literary contest or even sports.

Still, there are other contests that require no skills. One fine contest would be holding a contest between followers of the NPO regarding who can raise the most amount of money. Offer a prize for the winner, but it should be in the range of the NPO’s budget. It is much better if NPOs would ask possible donors to donate prizes.

If there is enough manpower and time, NPOs can host large events such as bazaars where they can invite different companies to join and sell their products. NPOs can charge each business or perhaps require them to donate a portion of their profit to the cause. As long as the event is properly organized, everything will be as smooth as silk.

On Friday September 30th MyDish.co.uk Will Be Turning To Its Baking Recipes In Support Of The Macmillan Cancer Support Event The ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity close to MyDish.co.uk’s heart and as such is urging all to offer their support this coming Friday for the Macmillan ‘Coffee Morning’ event

Established in 1990, the Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘Coffee Morning’ event quickly grew in popularity and soon became known as the ‘world’s largest coffee morning’. Last year alone saw 43,000 people get involved in this great cause helping to raise over eight million pounds.

Cancer is still a huge health risk for the UK population with statistics showing 1 in 3 people suffering from the illness at some point in their lives. These individuals require financial, emotional and medical support which Macmillan attempts to address and provide.

It is for this reason and many others that the founder of MyDish.co.uk, Carol Savage, is a big supporter of the charity and will be baking her favourite recipes for the Coffee Morning this coming Friday. Donning the chef’s hat and sourcing her favourite baking recipes, Carol will be baking her best cupcake recipes and selling them to support the Macmillan trust.

Asked about the Coffee Morning event Carol Savage said ‘Cancer is something that affects us all in some form or another.  My Mother-in law Maureen died of Leukeimia and she inspired me with her recipes to start MyDish.co.uk. Cancer is a very real illness that is just too common and we should do what we can to help and offer support .A few cupcakes here and there is not much to ask’

Making even the smallest donation can still make a big difference.  £25 alone can pay for the cost of a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping to provide essential medical, practical and emotional support for cancer sufferers.

£51 can purchase a liquidiser for someone who can unfortunately no longer eat solid food as a result of their cancer treatment. These services and many like them are just some of the essentials cancer sufferers need and the Macmillan trust helps provide them.

If you need some recipe ideas this coming Friday then visit MyDish.co.uk.  Home to thousands of good recipes, MyDish.co.uk has hundreds of baking recipes and cupcake recipes ensuring that everyone can find the perfect baking recipe for the Coffee Morning .

You can add your own suggestions if you feel the MyDish.co.uk com munity would benefit. In addition to this you can also see loads of great recipes on MyDish that have been donated to Macmillan by big name celebrities. Check out Eva Longoria’s lovely Churros and Gwyneth Paltrow’s gorgeous Pancakes. Alternatively Judi Denchs’ delicious Rum and Chocolate Fudge may be more to your taste.

So this Friday spare a little extra change, get your baking gloves on, drink some coffee and join Carol Savage and www.mydish.co.uk in supporting this extremely worthwhile charity, as together we can make a difference.

Amazing Forest: Rebuilding the Amazon Rainforest One Tree at a Time

Jun 15 2011 /RTPR/– Yes, the Amazon rainforest is being cut down as you read this. 17% is already gone. The world’s lungs – as it’s referred to – is decreasing in size. Yes, everyone knows this. But what can we really do about it? The Amazing Forest is a chance to do something right from where you are, sitting in your chair, a few clicks and USD 60 away.

Amazing Forest is the venue where people from all over the world are combining their efforts into one single strain to restore the Amazon rainforest to its original state.

We sell trees. Not trees to be delivered to your door, but to be planted on your behalf, in your name, in a designated specific area of the Amazon rainforest. The trees being planted are new trees. So, instead of preserving already existing areas of the rainforest, the Amazing Forest is actually reversing deforestation. We take so much from Earth everyday; this is a way to give something back to it.

It’s a common saying that, to eternalise your passage in this life, one must have children, write a book and plant a tree. Well, the four tree species that are currently being planted in the Amazing Forest (they are native species typical of the region: jatoba, copaiba, ipe rosa and louro freijo) live in average 200 years.

And what’s cool about it, people get their own tree, which will never be cut down and remain throughout its life individualised by a name tag, with the name they choose for it.
“We want to give people the opportunity to make a difference for the environment while leaving their own positive footprint in the planet”, says Rodrigo Nascimbeni, the founding partner of the company, “a footprint so tangible and concrete that people can come and see it, show to their children, to their great-grand-children, to their friends…” he goes on referring to the fact that customers can visit their tagged trees in situ while walking inside the realAmazon rainforest.

Amazing Forest goes much beyond simply selling trees online, it is each person’s way to contribute to a better world and to guarantee that future generations will share the same bliss to live here on our planet.

And, better yet, this noble act of planting a tree and committing to a better world can be renewed as often as wanted. Each tree is sold for USD 60.

Besides doing your share of good for a better planet, people can buy trees either as a present for a loved one, a memorial, a way to mark an important occasion or as a simple and convenient method of offsetting their carbon emissions.

Amazing Forest launched on Monday the 23rd of May 2011. The first piece of land to be replanted is situated approximately 34 miles outside the city of Boa Vista, Roraima State in North Brazil (if you go to Google Maps, we’re right where the green arrow points to at these coordinates 2 29 44.40 N 60 56 40.85 W).

The Amazon rainforest is the world’s largest rainforest. It is the home of the world’s richest area of plant and animal diversity and an enormous source of potential lifesaving medicines. Not only that, it is a massive carbon sink that acts as the lungs of the world. Sadly, it is believed that “at current [deforestation] rates, 55% of [the Amazon’s] rain forests could be gone by 2030 – a looming disaster not only for the region’s plants and animals, but for the world”. (Quote Source:http://www.worldwildlife.org/what/wherewework/amazon/)

Who is behind Amazing Forest
Amazing Forest is the realisation of four guys. It all started when the Brazilian Rodrigo Nascimbeni and the New Zealander Ben Cook, two lifelong friends, decided to take on this journey.

“We don’t believe that the size of a task should limit your ambition,” says Ben Cook. “The sad fact is that over 17% of this forest which is so integral to the health of our planet has been devastated by deforestation. If we all wait for someone else to take on this problem then we might just be too late. Rodrigo and I believe we have the passion and the skills to make this project work as a viable business where we can have fun whilst using our respective abilities to actually do something positive for the world we live in.”

Before launching Amazing Forest, Rodrigo created something called a receivables investment fund, the first one in Brazil. He also started and managed a few companies in the financial sector – which means he probably just gave up a successful international career in Investment Banking to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest.
Ben, although he achieved an honours degree in Plant Science, is the co-founder of Shake Interactive, a digital marketing agency operating from South Africa and the UK.

The two met in 1993 when Ben took part in a Rotary youth exchange programme in the tiny town of Votuporanga in Brazil. What started as a mutual need to learn the others native tongue ended in a lifelong friendship. Both have always wanted to work together but their respective careers had taken them in opposite directions and to different hemispheres.

As Amazing Forest was boiling inside their minds, they met Manuel Haas and Florian Herzog, two German Forest Engineers – also lifelong friends – living in Brazil and widely experienced in rainforest management and regeneration. Manuel and Florian came on board at the founding stages and are now an integral part of the team.

Not only do the four men aim to reverse the deforestation process in the Amazon, but 10% of any profits made will be donated to the WWF and a range of local Amazon charities.

New Report Describes Poor Quality Tax Preparation In New Mexico

LONGMONT, Colorado (May 6, 2011) – Between February 1 and April 18, 2011, First Nations Development Institute conducted 12 “mystery shopper” tests of paid tax preparers in New Mexico. These mystery shopper tests were conducted in communities with a high Native American population and close to Indian reservations. First Nations visited tax preparer sites in Gallup, Grants, Bernalillo, Farmington, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. The goal of the work was to assess the quality of tax preparation services and to test the hypothesis that the tax preparation firms are steering people toward expensive products, such as Refund Anticipation Loans or Refund Anticipation Checks.

This research uncovered several problems with inaccurate, unethical, or unprofessional behavior on the part of tax preparers. “In our small sample of mystery shoppers, it was shocking what we uncovered,” stated Shawn Spruce, a financial education consultant for First Nations. Spruce also shared,“Unfortunately, the companies that our mystery shoppers visited did a poor job preparing even basic tax returns and could have exposed them to serious tax liability. In general, we were startled by the low quality service and the fact that two of these companies automatically signed our shoppers up for expensive Refund Anticipation Checks, even though they could have directly deposited their tax returns into their own bank accounts.”

Michael E. Roberts, president of First Nations Development Institute, stressed the importance of conducting the mystery shopper tests and resulting research on tax preparers.

“This research reinforces what other studies have found,” stated Roberts. “There is a great need for better regulation of tax preparers so that low-income people can hold on to their hard earned tax refunds and avoid expensive and predatory products like Refund Anticipation Checks. It is unfortunate that tax time serves as an opportunity to exploit Native American taxpayers through high fees and unnecessary products that take money out of taxpayers’ pockets.”

On May 4, 2011, Spruce presented the findings in Tax Time Troubles, a First Nations Development Institute report that provides details about predatory, unprofessional, and inaccurate tax preparation firms serving often low income communities in New Mexico. Spruce was the evening keynote speaker at the Effective Asset Building Strategies in New Mexico conference being held at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This conference was sponsored by Prosperity Works, a nonprofit organization that works to reduce the impact of predatory lending and whose mission is to ensure that every New Mexican has the opportunity, knowledge and relationships to achieve economic prosperity.

DAREN IS NO APRIL FOOL!

Forty six-year-old Daren Johnson is set to run a marathon a day throughout April in a bid to raise £100,000 for two charities close to his heart.

Daren, from Bromley, will run more than 850 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End in his Give a Bit Back challenge to generate funds for two charities very special to him – the Retired Greyhound Trust and Help for Heroes.

Greyhound owner Daren, whose dog Kinda Ready won the Greyhound Derby in 2009, has spent his life involved in the racing industry. He had always pledged to raise funds and give something back to the Retired Greyhound Trust, which supports the racing industry to find loving new homes for the dogs at the end of their careers.

The construction firm boss also chose to support Help for Heroes after former employee Rob Long was blinded in a bomb explosion in Afghanistan and was given crucial support by the charity.

Daren said: “I did a couple of marathons in the 1990s and until a few years ago I played a bit of football too. This is going be very, very tough, but if people are going to donate their hard earned money I can’t have it easy!

”The Retired Greyhound Trust and its hundreds of volunteers around the country work tirelessly to find good homes for greyhounds at the end of their careers. It has always been so important for us to find loving homes for our dogs when they retire, so we are delighted to be able to support the charity in this challenge.

“The Trust has more than 700 dogs in kennels across the country who need homes, so they have their work cut out for them. I want to try to make their fantastic work a little bit easier by raising funds that allows them to continue to look after the dogs while they are searching for new owners.

“I decided to support Help for Heroes after seeing the amazing support that Rob received from the charity as he came to terms with a life-changing injury. Rob lost both of his eyes and was standing next to his best friend who was killed in the blast. You hear it all of the time on the news, but when it happens to someone you know you see the impact it has on people’s lives. That was the incident that sealed it for me ” the run was on and I was determined to raise lots of money,” he said.

Daren, who has looked after his own greyhounds after their racing careers are over, is passionate about the dogs. He said: “If anyone is considering a pet then I would urge them to consider a greyhound. We have had years of joy from our greyhounds. When they retired from the track they like nothing better than to loll around and get fussed. Most love children and other animals and, despite their reputation as formidable athletes, most greyhounds only need two short walks a day, so they are very easy dogs to look after.”

To help Daren to reach his £100,000 target for the Retired Greyhound Trust and Help for Heroes or to follow his progress, log on to his website to find out more: www.giveabitback.net.

Daren starts his Give a Bit Back challenge on April 2 from John O’Groats.

The charity has housed more than 50,000 dogs since it was set up in 1975. Around 9,000 greyhounds retire from racing each year.
