Cape Coral Man Wants Children to Read More – Publishes First Book

“Adventures of Nutty and Twittles, Oh Nuts! I Lost My Little Sister!”.

Cape Coral, FL (USA), October 03, 2014 — Inspired and encouraged by his two granddaughters, Dennis Marcoux, decided to write his first children’s book, “Adventures of Nutty and Twittles, Oh Nuts! I Lost My Little Sister!” Published by Halo Publishing International, the book characterizes forest animals and includes a teaching element for children centered on listening to adults and learning safety.

“I want kids to be encouraged to get something out of the book more than just a story. I want them to learn a moral,” says the retired 68-year-old Cape Coral man.

He also wants them, including his nine grandchildren, to read more because he believes it is not encouraged as much as it should be in our culture. Marcoux says reading is important because it ultimately leads to greater creativity. He compares his philosophy on reading like playing dominos.

“Reading leads to imagination, that leads to ideas, and ideas lead to creativity. You can’t get to the last domino until you start the first one,” he says.

For Marcoux, he has always been interested in the creativity of the arts. He’s dabbled in commercials and small stage acting. He says his writing days started in elementary school, but had no purpose. That changed in 2000 with the birth of his mentally challenged granddaughter, Ellie Rose. He wrote a short poem about the love he witnessed between his wife and daughter for this newborn baby. Family members loved the poem, and from that point on he says his writing had a purpose.

It wouldn’t be until 2009, when his five-year-old granddaughter, Molly, inspired him to write short stories. Marcoux said they would take walks through the woods, and it was the animals that fascinated her—namely the squirrels. It was through his relationship with Molly and her imagination that led him to write his first children’s book.

Marcoux is currently working on a series of books with Nutty and Twittles that he hopes will continue to teach morals to children, as well as open up their imagination and develop their creativity.

You can purchase “Adventures of Nutty and Twittles, Oh Nuts! I Lost My Little Sister!” through Halo Publishing International. It sells for $12.95.

Biography:
Originally from Worcester, Mass., Dennis Marcoux worked in the manufacturing business for most of his life. Now he is retired and resides in Cape Coral, Florida. In his spare time, you can find him reading books as a volunteer in elementary schools and children’s hospitals. He is a member of the Gulf Coast Writers Association of Fort Myers, Florida.

LondonTown.com: London gallery prepares to explore sex, penguins and much more

Wellcome Collection unveils an idiosyncratic autumn events programme for 2014

LONDON, September 17, 2014, The Wellcome Collection, one of London’s most stimulating and unusual venues is preparing to reopen after a lengthy closure for redevelopment and has revealed details of its event-packed autumn programme featuring a busy calendar of exhibitions and one-offs. The Wellcome Collection is located on the Euston Road close to Euston, King’s Cross and St Pancras International stations and features items covering art, science and history from an idiosyncratic personal collection accrued by a pharmacology billionaire on his travels almost 100 years ago. The venue is being extensively refurbished but several areas are open, including some gallery space, a café and bookshop. For more about the Wellcome Collection, see LondonTown.com, where you will also find the best information about London events and exhibitions, as well as London hotels, shops and restaurants.

The Wellcome’s programme includes An Idiosyncratic A to Z of the Human Condition, a free exhibition that runs until 12th October featuring a curious combination of objects, medical artefacts, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and contemporary artworks. Running until July 2015 is the free video installation, Eye Contact, which forms two giant pairs of eyes that stare out from the windows of the Wellcome Trust’s headquarters, winking and blinking at passing tourists and traffic. The eyes will be ‘awake’ and active through the day and will close at sunset to ‘sleep’ through the night – unless they are woken by a passing pedestrian.

The Wellcome will also be running the Age Of Exploration event series, which looks at the history of exploration and the nature of human curiosity. Events include a talk called Into The Unknown on Thursday 11th September (7-8.30pm), that looks at the human desire to question the unknown and the impact this has on our minds and bodies, and The Worst Journey on Thursday 9th October (7-8.30pm), which looks at the formation of Henry Wellcome’s vast hoard of medical curios and features a specially commissioned musical performance that looks at how how Apsley Cherry-Garrard, the youngest member of Captain Scott’s fateful expedition, risked life and limb to collect emperor penguin eggs in the Antarctic winter.

Coming later this year is a new exhibition, The Institute Of Sexology – from 20th November 2014 to 13th September 2015 – which will be a candid exploration of sexuality, featuring more than 200 objects spanning art, archival material, erotica, film and photography. It will be the first ever UK exhibition to look at the work of the pioneers of the study of sex.

LondonTown.com: Tate galleries in London prepare for another bumper year

Sculpture, painting, photography and Pop Art all lined up for 2015 programme

LONDON, September 16, 2014, London’s Tate galleries have announced the highlights of their 2015 exhibition programme. The two galleries, which are among Europe’s leading cultural attractions, will be holding major exhibitions on sculpture, Pop Art and photography, featuring the work of the likes of Barbara Hepworth, Alexander Calder, Frank Auerbach and David Hockney. Tate Britain in Pimlico and Tate Modern in Borough are both located on the River Thames and are connected by a ferry service that travels between the two galleries. For more on this and other attractions and exhibitions to look forward to in 2015, as well as news about London hotels, restaurants, shops and museums, see LondonTown.com, the city’s best guide for tourists.

The first half of 2015 at Tate Modern features three major retrospectives by prominent modern and contemporary painters. Sonia Delaunay (1885 – 1979) celebrated the modern world of movement, technology and urban life as a significant figure of the Parisian avant-garde from the 1920s. American minimalist painter Agnes Martin (1912-2004) came to prominence in the 1960s with her subtle, evocative canvases marked out in pencil grids and pale colour washes. And Marlene Dumas’s (b.1953) paintings reflect contemporary anxieties about life and death, gender and sexuality, and the influence of mass media and celebrity.

Tate Modern’s later exhibitions will include Alexander Calder: Performing Sculpture, the artist’s first major retrospective in the UK. Calder was a pioneer of kinetic sculpture and played an essential role in reshaping the history of modernism. The World Goes Pop  will tell new and different stories about Pop art from the 1960s and 1970s. It will reveal how one of the world’s most accessible art movements was often a subversive international language for criticism and public protest.

At Tate Britain in Pimlico, the first retrospective in London since 1968 of the work of Barbara Hepworth opens in the summer. One of the most successful sculptors in the world during the 1950s and 1960s, it will emphasise Hepworth’s prominence and significance in the international art world. Frank Auerbach (b.1931) has made some of the most resonant and inventive paintings of recent times, of people and of the urban landscapes near his studio in Mornington Crescent. Tate Britain is working closely with the artist on an autumn exhibition of works from the 1950s to the present day. From the autumn, the group exhibition  Art and Empire  will present art of the last three hundred years, including contemporary works, associated with the British Empire.

There is an emphasis on photography at Tate Britain in the spring of 2015. Salt & Silver: Early Photography 1840-1900 is devoted to original salted prints, one of the earliest forms of photography.  Nick Waplington and Alexander McQueen  is the result of a unique collaboration between photographer Nick Waplington and acclaimed fashion designer Alexander McQueen. For more on these exhibitions at Tate Modern and Tate Britain, see LondonTown.com.

Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group Acquires Legendary Fear Farm Attraction In Partnership

Another Scream-Filled Year of Fear Begins on Sept. 19, with Opening Day at Fear Farm and 13th Floor Haunted House

Phoenix, AZ, September 14, 2014 – Haunted house fanatics should prepare for their worst fears to become a reality this 2014 Halloween season with the new partnership between the iconic Fear Farm and the intense, cutting-edge 13th Floor Haunted House. Previously run by separate companies, now Fear Farm will feature set design and direction from the 13th Floor Haunted Houses’ award winning production team, the Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group.

Fear Farm, located at 2209 N. 99th Avenue, in Phoenix, known as a long standing tradition in Phoenix for generations, with older siblings and neighbors reciting stories being passed down for 15 years about their experience of finally making it out alive, and living to tell their tale. Or remembering those who may have fallen behind to find their way through the haunted corn fields alone. What Fear Farm fans have come to expect year after year will only rise to a whole new level of terror. The Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group has a razor sharp track record with multiple successful haunts throughout the country with the promise to bring your worst fears to life at Fear Farm, as well.

“We are so excited to bring Phoenix two amazing haunted attractions in 2014 with 13th Floor and Fear Farm! Each one is unique and guaranteed to deliver an amazing and entertaining way to celebrate the Fall season,” said Chris Stafford, 13th Floor Entertainment Group.

This year, if Halloween fans plan to enjoy multiple haunted attractions in Phoenix, the Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group is excited to offer two quality venues to get your scream on. Both establishments will continue to feature different themes, actors and special effects, but are excited to bring a higher level of quality in haunt technology to residents in the Valley. To better serve groups of all ages, Fear Farm is an excellent choice, as the format is more open to the public with vendors and areas for less brave souls or younger children to hang out and wait it out for the rest of the group. During the 2014 season, Fear Farm will hold many community events and feature a family night, where a family of four can enjoy Fear Farm for a reduced price. As for the 13th Floor Haunted House, it’s not meant for scaredy cats as the content and characters of the haunt are far more intense, in-your face and take place in small, dark quarters, and therefore is not recommended for young children.

Opening Night:
Start the scare season off with us on Friday, Sept. 19, for Charity Night at either horrifying attraction, Fear Farm or the 13th Floor Haunted House!

About Fear Farm:
Fear Farm is Phoenix’s largest Halloween event. Now under the production of the Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, Fear Farm will be the ride of your life!

Dusk. The grey time, in between the reality of day and the unknown of night. Your mind fills in what your eye cannot see.

In a cornfield, you can look above and see all that surrounds you, but if you look below, you cannot even tell what might be a few feet in front of you. The stalks surround you.

You hear a noise, and forget for a moment that it might just be the wind, You run like the wind, the leaves of the cornstalks brush against the side of your face. You are blind as to what is ahead, and even blinder to what is behind you.

You know it is your mind playing tricks on you, that the sound you hear is the wind, or the echoes of your own footsteps, or just some small animal. Even so, it is that tiniest of possibilities that there is a something chasing you, a something that might mean you harm, that drives you now. That remote chance outweighs any worry that you are overreacting. As long as you make it out of the cornfield, you will be all right. It’s the cornfield that drives your mind into terror. See if your mind can reason with Terror in the Corn! Fear Farm is located at 2209 N. 99th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85037. http://www.fearfarm.com/
