A Human Story from Long Ago Inspires a Street Theater Production

A Minneapolis residential real estate investment company, Homestead Road, has commissioned an original “street theater” production to be performed for the second year at the May Day Festival in Powderhorn Park on Sunday, May 1.

Minneapolis, MN, USA — A Minneapolis residential real estate investment company, Homestead Road, has commissioned an original “street theater” production to be performed for the second year at the May Day Festival in Powderhorn Park on Sunday, May 1. There will be four performances that day, weather permitting. A preview of the performance can be viewed at https://youtu.be/9oZkFCY5QzY.

The performance theme is based on 2500 people being uprooted from their homes in Western Massachusetts in 1938 to make way for a man made reservoir. Deeply affected by the heart rending story, the artist Sue Chaffee decided to bring the lost homes back to life in watercolor paintings. One of those paintings was selected for Homestead Road’s logo at the top of this page, because what the artist did is a perfect metaphor for what the company does, which is to bring homes back to life for future families.

Homestead Road published a 20 page book that retells the story. A copy of the Storybook can be viewed at http://www.fliphtml5.com/xspp/kuex Hard copy versions are available free upon request.

The street theater production retells this story, as dancers called “Roadies” wield giant paint brushes applying paint to a distressed “lost home” as it magically transforms to its restored glory. A family dances for joy at the sight of their new home, and the entire troupe of 12 performers celebrate in choreography and acrobatics to lively music.

The walls of Homestead Road’s offices are adorned with the 24 paintings in the artist’s series. They testify to how important the home is in the human experience. They inspire the employees to put themselves in the shoes of the people and families they serve, and to place their needs above all else.

Looking at these homes, one can imagine the joy of family life that once resonated within the walls, and the laughter of children who once played in the yards. Roads that once led to the towns can still be followed to the water’s edge.

RJ Comer Releases his Second Americana-Rock Single “The Moon Ain’t Fallen on me Yet”

Music Video Released April 15th [Single Artwork]

Los Angeles, CA, April 21, 2016 – RJ Comer returns to his frequent themes of redemption and survival in his second release, “The Moon Ain’t Fallen on Me Yet” off of his recent six-song EP Nightly Suicide. The captivating single will be available April 18th with an accompanying music video released April 15th via Growling Moon Records.

While most people find inspiration and romance in sunrises and sunsets, like a lone wolf RJ Comer has long looked to the moon for comfort when he was down. “The Moon Ain’t Fallen on Me Yet” depicts RJ’s nightlife—an allegory for his darkest and most lonely thoughts and experiences, but also—ironically—his sanctuary. The moon symbolizes hope, and is RJ’s wry and subtle allusion to John 1:5: “The light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it.”

Showcasing psychedelic imagery along with RJ’s shadowy, lyrical content, the music video authentically portrays the brooding singer-songwriter as he lures listeners with every line. Through his metaphorical and cryptic songwriting, Comer carefully peels back the layers of his dark side to reveal the light he seeks, and most often finds.

As America is both rural and urban, so is RJ’s take on Americana music. With Nightly Suicide, RJ steps out of the southern American Swamp genre of his 2015 release Hell Hole Swamp and onto a decidedly more urban Americana-Rock terrain; replacing banjo and fiddle with electric guitars and a deep bass. In support of his new release, RJ continues to tour primarily throughout the southern United States, but will head north for an official appearance at Canadian Music Week and a show in Chicago.

Nightly Suicide has been well-received with numerous positive reviews and significant radio play. Larry Toering at Skope Magazine proclaimed “…easy to play on repeat…. the songwriting is world class” and Jessica Harrington of The Celebrity Cafe declared “… amazing songwriting lyrical skills…. Each song is personal and poetic.” MusicNotez Magazine told its readers “You can feel the pain and scars of past decisions dripping off every note and lyric sung.” In addition to critical acclaim, RJ has been climbing the Americana Music Association radio airplay chart every week since releasing Nightly Suicide.

Kathy Blankley Roman is Gallery’s Featured Artist

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that abstract artist Kathy Blankley Roman has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA — Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that abstract artist Kathy Blankley Roman has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist.

Kathy Blankley Roman was born and raised in Chicago, IL and is an award winning artist known for her expressive abstract paintings. All her life she has been making art of one kind or another. After high school, she relocated to Madison, WI to attend the University of Wisconsin, in a field only loosely related to art.

She taught it at Madison Area Technical College when she returned to school there to study commercial art. This led to work in the graphic design field, freelance illustration and a return to Chicago. After her retirement in 2010, she started painting her current abstract work when studying nonobjective expressive painting with arts educator and author Steven Aimone.

Kathy continues to explore and experiment with different media and ways of creating. Ultimately, it is all about the process and the physical act of creating: becoming the brush, responding to the surface, the visceral feeling of engaging it, the discovery, the evolution of the painting as it changes; and then finding the delicate balance between intuition and intention to bring the composition to a satisfying conclusion. Legendary Soul Musician and Author Charles Wright Releases New Single “She Don’t Believe in Love”

“She Don’t Believe in Love” marks the first single from Charles’ forthcoming full-length album ‘Something to Make You Feel Good,’ available April 15.

Los Angeles, CA, April 08, 2016 – Charles Wright, soul music legend, author, and founding member of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band has released a new single, “She Don’t Believe in Love” from his forthcoming solo album, Something to Make You Feel Good. The single’s accompanying music video will be released soon via Charles Wright’s official YouTube channel. This single from the writer of the 70’s hit “Express Yourself” features a funky blend of classic and contemporary sounds that will excite new old and new fans.

Set to release on April 15th, Charles Wright’s newest effort, Something to Make You Feel Good is one of the year’s most anticipated soul/funk/R&B albums. The 13 tracks showcase Charles’ legendary songwriting as well as his understated guitar lines and vocals. The lead single “She Don’t Believe in Love” is storytelling of a relationship and their attempts to reconcile their love. Wright conveys the pain of this situation not only through percussive guitars but also through his expressive vocals, which shine in a way that belies Wright’s fifty-year career in the music industry. The album will be released on Charles’ own label, A Million $ Worth Of Memories Records.

With the release of his first autobiography in a planned series of memoirs earlier this year, Charles Wright has become a critically acclaimed author. The book, entitled “Up From Where We’ve Come” tells the story of Wright’s upbringing in rural Mississippi in the 1940’s and early 1950’s. Howard Dukes of Soul Tracks raves that even though the book’s focus is removed from Wright’s music, “the story that he has to tell sings in its own way.”

You can find the book on Amazon or at ExpressYourself.net

About Charles Wright:
Best known as the leader of `70s soul group The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the composer of the enduring R&B smash “Express Yourself,” Charles Wright has evolved into a tireless watchdog of African American history. In the 1960’s and 70’s Charles Wright recorded five LPs with The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and one solo LP for Warner Bros. (Poetry & Rhythm – 1972) followed by three for ABC-Dunhill. In the `90s, Wright started his own label, A Million Dollars’ Worth of Memories Records, which has released 10 albums of Charles’ music. In addition, Charles possesses a wealth of knowledge, experience and anecdotes – humorous to profound – that make him a compelling personality for interviews, panels and multi-media platforms.
