Cleveland, OH, USA — In the spring of 1931 a conspiracy in Germany to assassinate President Hindenburg and elevate the Kaiser’s son to the throne threatens the peace of Europe and sets off an epic quest to discover the secret hiding place of the Spear of Destiny, the lance which pierced the side of Christ. Kaiser Wilhelm II insists that the missing Spear-a talisman of bloodthirsty conquerors from Constantine to Frederick the Great-must be found and restored to his family.

Adolf Hitler also deeply reveres Frederick the Great and wants the Spear every bit as much as the Kaiser. So does Winston Churchill-growling in the political wilderness-who has gotten wind of the two German tyrants’ obsession with the Spear and is determined to deny both of them a symbol that has led in the past to so much bloodshed.

Churchill enlists his Scottish goddaughter Mattie McGary, an adventure-seeking photojournalist for the Hearst media empire, to embark upon a quest to find the Spear and vindicate the vision of her late grail-scholar father. He also persuades law professor Bourke Cockran, Jr., a former military intelligence agent and Mattie’s lover, to represent a US company in Germany targeted by a Nazi extortion racket in Munich.

Mattie’s quest leads her to a mysterious villa in Egypt and then to a stronghold high in the Austrian Alps where she is in danger from religious fanatics sworn to protect the Spear as well as Hitler’s SS and the ruthless leader of her own expedition who is both secretly working for the Kaiser and determined to seduce a vulnerable Mattie who mistakenly believes Cockran has left her for another woman. Learning that Mattie’s life is in peril, Cockran mounts a desperate airborne mission to rescue the woman he loves.

Ilene Sims Encourages Others to Break Free and Become Empowered

Working as a pastor, Ilene Sims has been trained to listen and watch others carefully.

San Antonio, TX, USA, May 30, 2018 — “Working with young people and adults alike, I know firsthand that there can be, at certain times, many areas in our lives that are hurting.”

This is a reality that she faces every day in her work as a hospice chaplain, giving spiritual guidance to those in need during the last stages of their lives, as well as providing support to families and loved ones.

However, at a difficult time in her own life, after having gone through a divorce, a friend gave Sims a gift that would forever change her outlook on her life, as well as those around her. Her friend gave her a red-factor canary, named Frankie. Red-factor canaries are unique from other birds because their owner can actually influence their color.

Sims had had birds before, but never one quite like Frankie.

The relationship between animals and humans is something that modern science is just beginning to understand. For instance, innovative medicine programs are beginning to accept that there is much to learn from a cross-disciplinary approach between human and animal medicine, for example.

But even beyond the field of medicine, the parallels between humans and animals have much to teach us about who we are.

“You can overcome difficulty. That’s what I learned from Frankie. There comes a time to trust somebody. Frankie would perk up in the morning: he recognized my voice. As humans, we share that same ability to go to the Lord. There is help and there is hope, but you will never meet your full potential if you are hiding.”

The series of events that Sims shared with Frankie were so profound that she decided to write a book about it, using her experience with Frankie as a metaphor for her own life and challenges, one that she knows can speak to a diversity of readers who are going through their own challenges.

“This is a time on the earth when people need hope more than perhaps ever before,” Sims says. “My intention is for my book to give them that hope.”

“This is a unique account of the bond between a bird and a woman that can offer readers of any age insight into their own lives,” adds publisher Lisa M. Umina.

For more information about Ilene Sims visit www.halopublishing.com. “Soaring with Frankie” is now available at Halo Publishing International, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads, and Books a Million in Paperback for $10.95 and as an e-Book for $5.95.

First Edition Design Publishing Releases New Book by Will Shelton

Investing In Your Health… You’ll Love The Returns, by Will Shelton, is an insightful and innovative look at how we can improve our personal health.

Flushing, NY, USA — Will Shelton’s Investing In Your Health… You’ll Love The Returns examines current diets to help you make decisions about your eating style, as well as taking a look at sleep patterns in association with our overall health.

Health and physical education warrant a bigger role in our children’s overall health and well-being. One of the chapters is entitled: Games People Play, which focuses on games (like football, baseball, basketball, and soccer) you played growing up. Will Shelton is deeply concerned that some neighborhoods, including parks are too violent for youth to play in. He presents some innovative ideas that can help curtail violence in neighborhoods.

“We need to bring back pride as a core value in some neighborhoods, so youth have a vested interest in their respective neighborhoods. This can be done by creating jobs, safe parks, and recreation/academic centers. Some of our schools can have impactful improvements with better training of teachers, principals (including improved school curriculum), and better trained supportive school staff. There should be an emphasis on After-School Programs, like homework assistance programs, mentorship programs, violence prevention programs and sports programs. Sports can be a valuable link to children doing well academically. In addition, better training of police to dramatically stop how guns, other weapons, and drugs enter neighborhoods.” ~ Will Shelton

Will Shelton is a husband, father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend. He also is a powerful believer in God and His Magnificent Creations. Will Shelton is a cancer survivor of over ten years who feels God has work for him. Will Shelton feels part of that work is this book.

In his twenty five year career for the NY City Department of Education, he was a Health Teacher and Director of SPINS Program (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program). Today he is retired.

In his retirement, Will Shelton found time to develop his love for writing. Shelton states: “I always had a love for learning, which started with God planting the learning seed in me. My parents, family, friends, and teachers watered that learning seed.” Shelton has earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Community Health Education from York College, Jamaica NY, a Master’s Degree in Health Education from Hunter College, NY, a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, LIU-CW Post, Long Island, NY, and an Advanced Certificate in Administration and Supervision (Ed.S.) from City College, NY.

Jakarta Film Awards Celebrates Indonesian Cultural Park Anniversary

Jakarta, Indonesia — Jakarta Film Awards (JFA) just announced their lineups for this year. The international film festival held its Awards Ceremony at the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the Indonesian Cultural Park, celebrating the 43rd anniversary of the National Park. The Awards Ceremony is a blast with red carpets, and crowds flooded packed the place. Kings and queens of Indonesia, many ambassadors, artists, filmmakers, and cultural society attended the big event.

This year, Jakarta Film Awards received 251 films from all around the world. Four films from different countries compete for the Best Film. Here are the nominees:

Give Me the Sun directed by Ban ZhongYi, a documentary about seven aging Chinese women whose bodies and minds were irrevocably scarred by the unspeakable brutality they suffered during World War II, when they were often gang-raped for months until their families could ransom them. Some were lured into sexual slavery by locals working for the Japanese Army, who promised them work in factories or hospitals; others were simply abducted and enslaved in the nearest comfort stations.

The American War, directed by an American veteran of the Iraq War, Dr. Daniel Bernardi, tells the story of the Vietnam War from the perspective of six Vietcong veterans: a soldier, an officer, an informant, a guerilla, a My Lai survivor and the leader of the Long Hair (all women) army. Using rarely seen North Vietnamese archival footage, animated illustrations and interviews set in homes, villages and prisons, The American War gives voice and character to Vietcong veterans.

The Eve directed by Luca Machnich is a short film that tells a story about a young boy who dreams to meet the Santa Claus. This semi-horror film is chosen because the complexity of the mixed color made every frame of this film beautiful yet creepy.

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) directed by Korean director Inchun Oh tells the story of the most dangerous zone in the world, which was established on July 27, 1953, when the Armistice Agreement was signed during the Korean War. This film stars Joo Min-ha who played as a female officer who tried to catch a jailbreaker in DMZ.

Michael directed by Satrajit Sen is a Bengali film that revolves around a person working man who dreams to be a film director.

Among the VVIP guests of the event are: the king and queen of Keraton Amarta Bumi, Sri Anglung Prabu Punta Djajanagara Cakrabumi Girinata and Kanjeng Ratu Dinar Retno Djenoli; King of Tallo, Makassar, Haji Andi Abdul Rauf Maro Daeng Marewa; Sultan and Queen of Indrapura Indra Oesman and Triliyanti; Prince of War of Indrapura, Ir. Patricia Cardenas Speaks Out Against Violence, Encouraging Other Survivors to Find their Voice

Abuse is a major problem in the United States where an estimated one in three women and one in four men have been physically abused by an intimate partner, according to the Center for Disease Control and Protection.

San Antonio, TX, USA – May 12, 2018 — Patricia Cardenas is a survivor in every sense of the word. Having lived the majority of her life homeless and in domestic violence relationships, she has overcome much of the adversity that life has presented her in order to share her story with the world.

“I lived much of my life between shelters and on the street. I want other people to experience my life and the world that I live in. A lot of people do not know what it’s like, living on the other side of the fence or the other side of the tracks.”

In her work, Cardenas hopes to tackle some of the stigmas that surround not only domestic violence and abusive relationships but also drug addiction. “I’ve been in domestic violence relationships for over half of my life, for thirty-some years. That also brought me to drug addiction and not too many people write about that. It’s kind of embarrassing and they feel like no one will listen to them.”

Now in recovery, Cardenas says that her goal was, “to reach other people and enlighten them about this other life.” Publishing a book entitled “Bracing Faith: Empowerment from a Domestic Violence Survivor and a Recovering Addict,” was her way of doing just that.

“Cardenas is not just talking about domestic violence but about the relationship between drug addiction and abusive relationships. She gives the reader an insight into what so many domestic violence survivors have to go through to come out on the other end. Cardenas is taking a heroic step, exposing her personal story to help save thousands,” comments publisher, Lisa Michelle Umina.

Her book is just a beginning. Cardenas is working to become a certified domestic violence advocate and seeks to work in the field as a source of support for other women who are experiencing domestic violence. “Advocates at Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (a California-based domestic violence agency) helped me at a time when I most needed support, information, and encouragement. I know that it is my calling to be that source of support to help other women get out of the cycle of abuse and violence and move forward toward safety and self-sufficiency.”

A support system is one of the elements that Cardenas credits to her recovery. “My stepdad has been the most supportive person I’ve had my whole life.”

For more information about Patricia Cardenas visit www.halopublishing.com. “Bracing Faith: Empowerment from a Domestic Violence Survivor and a Recovering Addict” is now available at Halo Publishing International, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble, Goodreads and Books a Million in Paperback for $19.95 and as an e-Book for $9.99.

Shields Takes Readers on an Unforgettable Journey Into Loss and Love

What happens when you surrender and trust? This is the question central to Tim Shields’ first novel, “A Curious Year in the Great Vivarium Experiment.”

San Antonio, TX, USA – May 9, 2018 — On the morning of his thirty-sixth birthday, Thomas Furey finds himself alone and jobless. Devastated by the recent loss of his mother, he feels untethered, like he is falling into the depths of something he can’t describe. On a whim, he buys a one-way ticket to India. Possessed by fear, armed with hope, protected by naïveté, and guided by intention, when Thomas learns to operate in alignment with his true self, serendipity intervenes.

Taking inspiration from his own life and travels, Shields says, “After a decade bookended by sick and dying parents, I decided to set out to try and uncover what I’ve always called my ‘soul ache.” He adds, “I think each of us has our own soul ache, and whether we are conscious of it or not, it’s one of the central drivers of our life.”

As Thomas journeys all over Southeast Asia for a year, he learns about becoming a man in the shadow of his parent’s death, surrendering his past and trusting the future that is pulling him forward, and the power of gratitude and intention to shape his reality.

“This book is about overcoming the self, that voice in our head that’s not loving or kind to us. Beyond that, there’s a much deeper philosophy at play about the nature of reality and the role of consciousness to shape it.” Shields adds with laughter, “It’s kind of like a ‘Portrait of the Artist’ as a middle-aged, spiritual man. Thomas is an artist searching for his voice and a writer searching for his story.”

“Sitting on the mountain, it occurred to me that traveling was a lot like writing,” says the protagonist. “When you sit down to write, you have no idea where you’ll be when you get to the end. Sometimes the journey is joyful, sometimes it’s terrifying, and sometimes it reduces you to tears of gratitude or despair. And sometimes the most fantastic, serendipitous events get you to the next chapter when you simply do the work, stay open to ideas, and follow where they lead you.”

As publisher Lisa Michelle Umina observes, “We are releasing this book at a time when, more than ever before, people are inquiring about the nature of our existence. This book challenges readers to find their own answers and seek their own stories.”

Shields’ nephew and godson, Jack Shields, created an original musical score for the book’s theatrical trailer. This collaboration led to the creation of an original soundtrack for the book, which is currently being shopped around to record labels. To view the book trailer and for more information, visit the book’s website: www.acuriousyear.com.

The book is now available globally at Halo Publishing International, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble, Goodreads and Books a Million in Hardcover for $26.95, in Paperback for $19.95, and as an e-Book for $9.99.

About Tim Shields:
In December 2016, Tim Shields left behind his career in marketing and advertising for ghostwriting. He has since worked with two New York Times bestselling authors, both of whom write about the nature of reality, consciousness, quantum physics, healing, and more. Born with a curious mind and restless spirit, he heeds the call of the creative muse wherever it summons him. Whether playing in a band, taking improve and acting classes, volunteering at an orphanage in Tanzania, buying one-way tickets to India and Mexico, or attempting to create his own travel show in Europe, his interests can be found at the intersection of creativity, expression, travel, and expansion. “B.C. is an American classic like apple pie and baseball,” said Richardson. “60 years strong, the daily strip runs in over 800 North American newspapers – newspapers with a reach of 64.4 million readers. This gives us a tremendous connection to the fans, and allows us to expand B.C. to an on-screen and off-screen experience. Mason, Mick, and Patti at Hart Studios have helped us understand and blow out the characters – right down to what they eat for breakfast!
