“The Simple Guide To” Offers Easy-to-Read, Educational eBooks on Interesting Topics

“The Simple Guide To” recently launched a new website to give people a single place to go to enhance their knowledge about an array of topics.

London, Ontario (Canada), Saturday – January 14, 2012 — “The Simple Guide To” recently launched a new website to give people a single place to go to enhance their knowledge about an array of topics. The unique site features educational ebooks buyers can download to an Apple, Android, ebook reader or computer and read whenever and wherever they choose. “We want people to view The Simple Guide To as a great place to look for informative ebooks, and it’s a website that is clean and easy to use,” said Owner Chris Scott.

With the ever-increasing demands on consumers’ time, it’s becoming more difficult for people to learn about various subjects and people that interest them, according to Scott. The Simple Guide To site presents the ideal solution because it gives people instant access to educational ebooks that are short and easy to digest. Scott explained: “Most can be read in less than an hour. Additional links to guides are regularly updated on Twitter to further help people.”

The Simple Guide To provides a convenient online resource where people can locate educational ebooks that can help them learn something new or discover more about a particular person. For example, let’s say you hear that tea is good for you, but don’t want to spend $20 on a book you know you won’t have time to read. Or what if your kids are going crazy about Justin Bieber or Katy Perry, and you want to be able to have a conversation with them about their favorite artist? The Simple Guide To is the absolute fastest and easiest way to learn more about almost any subject.

Featured topics on the website currently include The Simple Guide to Tea, The Simple Guide to Having a Baby, The Simple Guide to Cocktails, The Simple Guide to Lasting Love and The Simple Guide to Lady Gaga. Other available titles include The James Bond Movie Guide, Travel Guide to Beijing, a Step-by-Step Guide to Professional Networking, Guide to Successful Sports Betting, and the Joy of Less, a Minimalist Living Guide. The site’s e-books are affordably priced, starting at 99 cents. There are also several free guides available.

The websites educational ebooks are not only beneficial for readers, but they can also be an effective communication tool for businesses wanting to promote their products and services. Ebooks can be produced by almost anyone and on any subject. Companies can tap the vast amount of information on the Internet or utilize their own expertise to create informative ebooks or guides for their target audience. The Simple Guide To can help make the process easy. “If you are an expert in your field and want a Simple Guide created for your business, please contact us for a free quote,” Scott said. “We are always working with experts to provide more ebooks that can educate and inform in a fun, simple easy-to-read format.”

1,127 Buddhism Tudongha Monks in Thailand

These eye-opening pictures have been happening for 12 consecutive days in Thailand. The starting date was on Jan 2, 2012 and it has been going on until today, Jan 13.  It will continue on until Jan 25, 2012 which is the last day of this special activity. Normally, Tudongha in Buddhism involves the discipline of detaching from materials as they are in order to free the mind from defilements.

Although the monks are walking from province to province instead of walking in the forest, they still have to practice their mind. This is the first time in history of Buddhism that 1,127 Theravada monks are doing Tudongha in unison for the distance of 365 km.  It will take them 24 days to walk on the path strewn with rose petals and with local people waiting along the path saying “Sadhu” to express their joy in seeing the monks doing this Tudongha on the entire route. What inspires a large number of people to carry out this activity continuously for a long time in strong heat of the afternoon sun?  These people never give up their intention even though they have to wait on the rugged roads and lack various means of comfort. They never neglect their participation even for a short time.

This is because of the peaceful temperament of the monks who have practiced their mind very well.  This enables the Buddhists to touch the real core of Buddhism by watching the monks doing their Tudongha. The monks and the people intend to walk the various routes that cover 6 provinces in order to pay homage to the 6 significant places that their Great Master used to stay.

As of today, the 1,127 Tudongha monks have walked through 2 places which are in Song Pi-Nong District, Suphanburi Province. These places are: 1. Phra Mongkolthepmuni Memorial which is the place where The Great Master was born, and 2. Song Pi-Nong Temple where The Great Master ordained.Today, all 1,127 Tudongha monks are coming to the third important place which is Boadbon Temple, Bangkuvieng, Nonthaburi Province where The Great Master attained Dhammakaya.

The monks have walked 150 km. already and they have to walk the remaining of 215 km. in 12 more days and that will be the end of this Tudongha.  We can say that this had never happened before in history.  What will happen next?  Let us continue in the next episode. Philadelphia World Future Society Hosts Expert Forum on Future of Higher Education

Will colleges as we know them disappear? Bill Ringle, nationally-known CEO advisor and president of the World Future Society of Greater Philadelphia, will moderate a panel discussion on the future of higher education on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Philadelphia, PA, January 11, 2012 – Bill Ringle, nationally-known CEO advisor, business growth strategist, and president of the World Future Society of Greater Philadelphia, will moderate a national expert panel discussion on the future of higher education on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 1:00pm EST. This event features prominent educators, economists, entrepreneurs, investors, designers, and futurists who are uniquely positioned to weigh in on the trends in this field.

Higher education is under attack from several fronts today. Business leaders want graduates with more relevant skill sets. Parents howl at the rising costs in a stagnant economy. Students resent graduating full of promise only to find themselves moving back home while they job search. Higher education leaders fire back that high schools are doing a poorer job than ever preparing students to do college-level work and that building expensive recreation centers and refurbishing dormitories is a requirement to remain competitive with other campuses. Meanwhile, private ventures offering online learning with accredited degrees and/or certifications without the campus overhead market more vigorously and online course materials appear with greater depth, polish, sophistication, and followings each week for no charge.

This panel discussion explores solutions and likely scenarios 10 to 30 years out based on informed thinking, powerful trends, thoughtful analysis, and decided bias for what is anticipated to be a probable or preferable future for Higher Education. Ringle will not seek common ground during the discussion, but rather to surface the underlying reasons for forecasts and to clearly illuminate the implications of the business model, demographic, sociological, and technological directions.

The expert guest panelists are: Cathy Curran, PhD, Associate Professor, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is a Fulbright Scholar whose research focuses on the Role and Purpose of Higher Education and the Impact of Public Policy on Higher Education, among other topics.

Mark Kantrowitz, a bestselling author and nationally recognized expert on student financial aid and paying for college, is the founder and publisher of FinAid.org and publisher of Fastweb.com, a popular and complete free scholarship matching site. Jack Maguire, PhD, is the CEO of Maguire Associates, a leading research-based consulting firm serving the education industry; he introduced market research to the field of admissions when he became the Dean of Admissions at Boston College in the early 1970s. Greg O’Brien is CEO of The College Bound Network, a leading provider of interactive, recruitment marketing services to higher education. Andrew Schrage is co-owner of Money Crashers Personal Finance, whic h provides essential education across a wide variety of topics and information on how to reduce and avoid student loan debt as the price of education continues to rise in a floundering economy. Art Shostak, PhD, author and Professor Emeritus, Drexel University, is a longtime member of the World Future Society who has been a futurist consultant for Johnson & Johnson, Monsanto, Proctor & Gamble, various levels of Federal, state, and local government, and major labor unions. Kate Tulenko, PhD, is a globally recognized expert in the field of health labor markets and health workforce education; she is a leading thinker on strategies for health professional schools to cost-effectively train larger numbers of qualified, relevant health workers. Mark Valenti, CTS, is President and CEO of The Sextant Group, Inc.; his particular area of expertise is designing cutting-edge learning spaces and learning environments of the future.

“Higher education, not just in the United States, but around the world, seems to have been immune from innovation and significant change in the last 300 years,” says Bill Ringle. “In the next 20 years, I forecast that we will see more agile organizations educating a wider range of adults, accepting higher levels of accountability, for a fraction of today’s cost of a traditional bricks-and-mortar 4-year degree by leveraging emerging technological advances and global infrastructure. For some today, having a smartphone with a signal that didn’t drop so often seems a wishful dream, but imagine a going to sleep and waking up the next morning with new abilities or knowledge from new forms of accelerated learning. What happens when a generation of top students elect NOT to pursue a higher degree at a traditional institution, but take self-paced courses because the quality and access become superior and a tipping point is reached? This panel discussion bring s together top minds from a variety of professional fields, who all want to share their perspectives and supporting examples. The discussion is designed to explore new frontiers, not to make any singular predection.”

Burg Simpson Attorney, Reeves Whalen, Leads Denver Fundraising Efforts for Red Cloud Indian School

Reeves Whalen, an associate at Burg Simpson, who practices personal injury and pharmaceutical drug litigation, recently concluded fundraising efforts on behalf of the Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Denver, CO, January 11, 2011 – Reeves Whalen, an associate at Burg Simpson, who practices personal injury and pharmaceutical drug litigation, recently concluded fundraising efforts on behalf of the Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Mr. Whalen visited and participated in class instruction at the Red Cloud Indian School in April 2011. Thereafter, he was prominently featured in the August 2011 Edition of Trial Magazine for his involvement in a letter writing campaign aimed at addressing the issue of poverty and alcohol abuse on the reservation and his efforts to raise funding for the school. Mr. Whalen became familiar with the Red Cloud Indian School when their men’s basketball team appeared during a half time scrimmage at the Denver Nuggets Pepsi Center in 2009.

The Red Cloud Indian School was founded in 1888 and has over 600 students in elementary, middle, and high school programs. Red Cloud has an annual average attendance rate of over 90% and is credited with an impressive 45 Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship recipients, the highest per capita in the country. Over 90% of the school’s operating budget comes from private donations. The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is 2.8 million acres, making it the second-largest reservation in the United States. However, approximately 80% of the residents are unemployed, 49% are living below the Federal poverty line, the per-capita income is the second poorest in the United States, the infant mortality rate is five times higher than the national average, the reservation has the highest teenage suicide rate in the country, and life expectancy is the second lowest in the western hemisphere behind Haiti. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease occur in epidemic proportions on the Pine Ridge and death rates due to diabetes among Native Americans are 3 times higher than among the general United States population. While visiting the school, Mr. Whalen met with administrators, teachers, and participated in classroom instruction.

“What I’m doing her matters, this is a program in serious financial need and their students, who are performing miraculously under horrible conditions, deserve our immediate attention and support. These conditions exist here in America and we have a duty to act,” commented Whalen. Mr. Whalen concluded his fundraising efforts this past week and presented donations to school officials on Friday November 18, 2011.

Mr. Whalen is an accomplished Colorado injury attorney. In 2011, Reeves Whalen was selected by the Denver Business Journal as a “Forty Under 40” Rising Star. In 2010, Mr. Whalen was selected as a Finalist by the Colorado Bar Association for the “Young Outstanding Lawyer of the Year” Award. Furthermore, in 2011, Mr. Whalen was appointed by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to serve on the Administration’s Transition Team as the Co-Chair for the Department of Excise & License. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl’s Athletic Leadership School of Denver (GALS), The Save Our Youth Mentorship Program (SOY) in affiliation with the Denver Rescue Mission, and the Anschutz Medical Center Cancer Fund (AMC). Mr. Whalen teaches annually in the Denver Public Schools through the Denver Bar Association’s Attorney Guest Teacher Program. In the past, while he served on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Denver (DPoD), he moderated and participated in education reform forums with State Senator Michael Johnston and Lt. Governor Joe Garcia. In addition, he has served on campaign finance committees for State Representative Crisanta Duran, Denver Public School Board At-Large Representative Happy Haynes, State Senator Chris Romer, former Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff, and Governor John Hickenlooper.

Mr. Whalen has an extensive background in philanthropic projects that extends beyond the United States. In 2009, Reeves visited Haiti and participated in the construction of an orphanage outside of Port Au Prince with a non-governmental organization, Center of Hope Haiti (COHH). Thereafter, in 2010, following the earthquake in Haiti, Mr. Whalen raised money to bring professional medical clinics to Haiti through The National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH). As the community service co-chair for the Arapahoe County Bar Association, Mr. Whalen has established an annual volunteer program putting local attorneys together with Project CURE to help pack medical supplies for shipment to third world medical clinics. Mr. Whalen has been an associate attorney at Burg Simpson since 2008 where he practices personal injury and product liability law representing injured victims and consumers.

Pay Your Family First and Choices Educational Empowerment team up to launch ThriveTime Scholarship Challenge across Arizona High Schools

Best selling author Sharon Lechter’s financial literacy organization, Pay Your Family First, has joined forces with the non-profit group, Choices Educational Empowerment to launch the first ThriveTime Scholarship Challenge at Estrella High School in Avondale on January 18, 2012.

Paradise Valley/Phoenix, AZ, January 03, 2012 – Best selling author Sharon Lechter’s financial literacy organization, Pay Your Family First, has joined forces with the non-profit group, Choices Educational Empowerment to launch the first ThriveTime Scholarship Challenge at Estrella High School in Avondale on January 18, 2012. Schools across Arizona will participate in the initiative through April 2012 and students will be eligible for regional and state level competitions. The student organization, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is holding competitions at their regional and state conferences between January and April for advancement as well.

The challenge invites high school students to compete in game play of Lechter’s award winning board game, ThriveTime for Teens. Developed by Lechter as a tool for teaching money management to youth and families, the game requires participants to navigate real-life scenarios related to earning, saving, investing, spending, and giving. Top winners from all competitions will earn scholarships or cash prizes and move on to the state competition in April of 2012, coinciding with Financial Literacy Month.

A struggling economy and budget cuts at the national and local level have left schools struggling to maintain high quality education, with many families questioning how to finance college expenses. Compounding the issue, studies show that many youth demonstrate a very poor understanding of money and finances. The challenge promotes Lechter’s mission to empower schools, families and youth to embrace financial literacy.

“Managing money is a life skill – and as parents, grandparents and interested adults – it’s up to us to equip our children for the financial world they are going to face. Our ThriveTime Challenge will teach critical, practical skills while awarding scholarships and prizes for well deserving students and their schools,” said Lechter.

Arizona State Treasurer, Doug Ducey applauds this initiative and is expected to appear at the state competition, where students will compete for cash awards ranging from $2500 to $5000, plus chances to earn spots at the regional and state competitions. There is no cost to participating schools, and each one receives a $250 donation from Pay Your Family First in addition to classroom resources that will be used to ensure the sustainability of the program. Every student participating in the competition will receive a take home copy of the ThriveTime for Teens game to share will family and peers.

Members of the Arizona State Society of CPA’s will provide volunteers to facilitate the competitions. New Green App For Eco-Gamers

The Co-operative Group releases innovative new children’s gaming app on Apple’s iTunes store!

From today (9 December), kids, teenagers and adults with an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can download the Green Schools app from iTunes and get tackling the addictive eco-tasks straightaway. By downloading the new Green Schools Revolution game, kids up and down the UK can battle it out to become the ultimate eco warrior.

According to a recent study by The Co-operative Group, over 90 per cent of children want to learn more about green issues* and this fun new app, being launched today, sets kids on a mission to become green revolutionaries.

By downloading the free app to their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, kids can race against time to harvest the carrots before the rabbit gets them, turn off the taps to save the duck in the bath tub and save energy by switching off lights whilst putting their green knowledge to the test to unlock the secret bonus level and become an eco warrior.

With fun quizzes about energy, water and healthy living, the app is a great way to learn important lessons while having loads of family fun this Christmas!

Melanie Phillips, who heads up Green Schools Revolution for The Co-operative, said: “We are lucky that our youngsters have such a tremendous appetite to learn more about green issues.

“Our new Green Schools Revolution app is a fun and engaging way to help children and young people learn about building a more sustainable world whilst competing with their friends and family to become eco warriors!”

The Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution education programme, part of its Inspiring Young People campaign, was launched in 3,000 primary and secondary schools in September by farmer and TV presenter Jimmy Doherty. It has been designed to inspire the next generation of green pioneers, with free lessons, trips and green activities available to all UK primary and secondary schools.

You can download this exciting app, available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, from the iTunes store from today (9 December). Simply search the app store on iTunes for ‘green schools’ to download the game for free or visit the Green Schools Revolution site to find out more about the app and the initiative.
