NanoMarkets Announces Release of OLED Lighting: Companies, Products and Strategies – 2012 Market Report

NanoMarkets has announced the release of its latest report on OLED lighting titled “OLED Lighting: Companies, Products and Strategies – 2012.”

Glen Allen, Virginia – May 9, 2012 — NanoMarkets has announced the release of its latest report on OLED lighting titled “OLED Lighting: Companies, Products and Strategies – 2012.” NanoMarkets projects that the OLED luminaire market will reach $6.4 billion ($US) by 2017 and within the report shows how far the OLED lighting industry has developed in the last two years. The report notes that OLED luminaires are available at affordable prices and a surprisingly large number of major electronics and lighting companies have developed plans to take OLED lighting into the mainstream general lighting market. Performance criteria for OLED lighting are close to acceptable for many real world applications.

This report analyzes in depth the product/market strategies of leaders of the OLED space including; Acuity Brands, AUO/Lextar, Blackbody, First-o-Lite, GE, Kaneka, Konica Minolta, LG, Lumiotec, Mitsubishi, Moser Baer, NEC, Novaled, Osram, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sumitomo, Visionox and WAC Lighting. The report also provides insight into the strategies of smaller and emerging companies in this space.

Additional details about the report are available at: http://nanomarkets.net/market_reports/report/oled_lighting_companies_products_and_strategies_2012

The firm recently released its forecast of the OLED lighting global market. Details of that report are available here: http://nanomarkets.net/market_reports/report/nanomarkets_oled_lighting_market_forecast_q2_2012

Highlights from the Report:

One of the main selling features claimed for OLED lighting is “energy efficiency.” Two years ago, OLED lighting wasn’t very efficient, offering around 20 lm/W. Today, it is much closer to CFLs and LEDs as OLED lighting panels now routinely reach 45 lm/W to 65 lm/W. Prominent OLED lighting firms are confident that they will soon offer panels in the 100-150 lm/W range, which would then enable OLED lighting to rapidly penetrate general lighting markets. Firms that have announced superior efficiency performance in product roadmaps include Panasonic, LG and Philips.

OLED lights already compete with CFLs on lifetimes but remain challenged by LEDs. Still OLED lighting lifetimes continue to improve rapidly. Philips believes that OLED lighting panels will reach 40,000 hours by 2018. LG says it can reach this by 2015.

Firms in the OLED lighting space see office lighting as an early revenue generator. For this to happen, panels must be much larger than they are today. Major OLED lighting firms expect progress in this area soon. The often-conservative Philips plans 1 m x 1 m panels by 2018; Panasonic will have 600 x 600-mm panels by 2019. The Korean firm, Jusung Engineering has already built a 730 x 920-mm panel, although not as a commercial product.

There is a revival of interest in solution processing as a way of producing low-cost OLED lighting panels to profitably meet the price points of general lighting. Although GE’s efforts in this area are behind schedule, Sumitomo’s announcement that it is making a strong effort to print OLED lighting panels has given new life to printing OLED lighting panels. The Pioneer/Mitsubishi alliance is also developing a printing process for some layers of its panel.

Ecotech Institute Increases Veterans’ Resources, Including Partnership with Veterans Green Jobs

With Veteran Population on the Rise, Ecotech Seeks to Understand the Educational and Emotional Needs of Military Students

Denver, CO, May 08, 2012 – Ecotech Institute, the first and only college entirely focused on renewable energy and sustainability, today announced that it has formed a relationship with Colorado-based Veterans Green Jobs, whose mission is to engage, transition and connect military veterans with meaningful employment opportunities. About 15 percent of Ecotech’s current student population is made up of military veterans.

Together, Ecotech and Veterans Green Jobs will focus on encouraging and enhancing opportunities for military veterans by promoting career opportunities in the green jobs sector, both in Colorado and nationally.

“Our military population has already been through so much and we want to make sure we’re providing the support they need to excel in school and go on to have productive careers,” said Michael Seifert, president of Ecotech Institute. “Veterans Green Jobs has a similar focus, believing that the right jobs can make all the difference in helping our military veterans enjoy a successful life after service.”

As part of its commitment to military students, Ecotech recently hosted a seminar on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), taught by the Denver Department of Veterans Affairs. Ecotech administration, program directors and instructors attended the session to better understand what many student veterans are going through. According to “Help my PTSD,” one in every five military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan has PTSD and in the past year the number of diagnosed cases in the military has jumped 50 percent.

At Ecotech, 67 students are either military veterans or currently serving in the military. Of those, three will graduate on June 21, 2012. One of those students is Monica Soto, who will graduate in June with a degree in Wind Energy Technology. Monica spent more than eight years in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic, but after 9/11 she left the Navy to be closer to her son and build a career where she could raise him in one place. After trying some other career paths, she found Ecotech when seeking an opportunity that would capitalize on her training and previous associate’s degree, and also build a bridge between her time in the military and her life as a civilian.

“As a single mom and 100 percent disabled vet, I didn’t know where to find my place in the civilian community and Ecotech met my needs in a variety of ways,” said Soto. “I knew my purpose in the Navy and felt lost after I left; I now feel a purpose again. I’m excited about putting my skills to work to better my own family and our environment.”

Ecotech Institute will have its first graduating class in June 2012. Ecotech Institute, which is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, offers highly practical renewable energy degree programs that provide graduates with skills valued by today’s alternative cleantech employers.

Learn more about Ecotech Institute, or call 877-326-5576. The next round of classes begins in late June and applications are being accepted now. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

LOS GATOS, Calif. (May 8, 2012) — TripInsurance.com, the most trusted online resource to help travelers find the trip coverage they need, today announced that it has added non-medical emergency evacuation coverage as part of its extensive online portfolio of travel coverage. These policies, underwritten by BCS Insurance Company and US Fire Insurance Company, will pay up to $25,000 to evacuate travelers to safety in the event of a natural or man-made disaster or due to covered political issues.

Unlike medical emergency evacuation coverage, these policies are designed to provide protection in case of unforeseen disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, the nuclear emergency in Japan, or the political crisis in Cairo. The policies cover all reasonable expenses to remove you to the nearest place of safety, or to your home. Travelers can call On Call International LLC toll free, and they will arrange for the most appropriate, economical, and safest means available for evacuation. Evacuation coverage is only provided for arrangements made by On Call International.

“When travelling, even to traditionally safe locations in the world, disaster can strike without notice. One minute you are touring the great pyramids, and the next minute your hotel is in the midst of political unrest. You can never predict when an earthquake, flood, or hurricane will affect your trip,” said Dan Skilken, founder and CEO of TripInsurance.com. “That’s why we offer this invaluable Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation Benefit. You can now travel with the peace of mind knowing that we can help get you to safety.”

Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation Benefit is designed to protect travelers if, during a trip, the local authorities or the U.S. State Department issues a warning to leave due to: a natural disaster, civil, military, or political unrest, or you are being expelled as a persona non-grata from the country you are visiting. Evacuation must take place within 10 days of any covered event. If Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation is required, these policies do not cover the loss of the balance of your travel expenses for the interrupted trip. The provisions are designed to help make arrangements to evacuate the area, and cover the expense of getting you to safety.

All the policies offered on TripInsurance.com are exclusively designed for our clients and are not offered by travel agents or other online sources. PriceTravel Becomes First Travel Agency in Latin America to Offer Cruise Travel Online Directly from its E-Commerce Site

PriceTravel establishes itself as a pioneer in the cruise travel industry, reinforcing the company’s leadership and innovation within the tourism industry.

MEXICO, D.F., (May 8, 2012) — PriceTravel, Mexico’s most innovative online and wholesale travel agency, today becomes the first agency in Latin America to offer cruise travel directly through its website and more than 100 retail travel kiosks located in major shopping centers and department stores throughout Mexico. The addition of cruise travel is part of PriceTravel’s continued growth plans and conquest of the Latin American market, including the company’s recent entry into Colombia.

Initially, PriceTravel established an alliance with Royal Caribbean International, who recently announced plans to expand in Mexico’s cruise market. As a result of this partnership, PriceTravel has become the only online travel agency in Latinamerica that allows customers to book all routes offered by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises Club cruise lines directly from its website. PriceTravel plans to offer all major cruise lines, as well as cruise packages including the hotel + flight portion of the trip by the end of 2012.

“Our venture into selling cruise travel is the result of a long evaluation and preparation process. We work closely with cruise lines and understand that although currently viewed as a premium product in Mexico, there are many opportunities for growth in the market’s cruise segment. We are confident that we have the formula to reposition the product and reach a wider range of customers who perhaps previously viewed cruise travel as an unaffordable luxury. Providing detailed descriptions and content, and easing the purchasing and payment process is essential to change our customers’ and the travel industry’s current perception,” said Oliver Reinhart, CEO of PriceTravel.

One of the many advantages for PriceTravel customers in Mexico is that the cruise offerings are available through an innovative reservation system developed especially by PriceTravel, which allows customers to compare cruise line offers, routes and prices; book up to four cabins per transaction; and have access to information and images with the ease that characterizes PriceTravel, all in real time.

“There are many advantages of booking cruise travel through PriceTravel. Aside from ease of use, having access to the personal service of PriceTravel’s 500 travel professionals is especially important for those who have never traveled by cruise. The wide variety of payment options we have for all of our products – including cash; debit and credit cards with up to 12 interest-free months; and layaway – make a difference for our customers,” added Diego Del Vecchio, Marketing Director of PriceTravel.

“Through this partnership, both Royal Caribbean and PriceTravel will offer Mexican travelers a quick and easy option to purchase cruise travel online,” added Jose Ceciliano, Director of Sales for Royal Caribbean Mexico. “Royal Caribbean guarantees PriceTravel customers the best vacation aboard the spectacular ships of Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises. This partnership will provide our mutual customers with a comprehensive service, featuring the professionalism and quality that both companies are known for.”

EnviroMajik presents Green Technology Products and Solutions for High Energy Bills

While not an immediate concern in some parts of the United States, it could be an indicator of what to expect in the future.

Georgetown, Texas, USA – May 6, 2012 — Another blistering hot summer in Texas means high demand for electricity. This could become a problem for Texans because unlike many other states in the nation, Texas’ electric grid is not connected to the rest of the national grid, which means that Texas does not have readily available sources of supplemental electricity. Rolling “black-outs” are a real possibility as generation capacity struggles to keep pace with increasing demand. As a result, the appliances in your home could experience power surges as your neighborhood participates in the rolling blackouts. This surge results from the return of electricity when your section of the power grid is reenergized.

Another possibility is a “brown-out” condition. A ‘brown-out’ occurs when the electrical demand is great and the voltage drop along the high voltage distribution lines becomes large because of the amount of load on the line. A ‘brown-out’ condition can also be the result of generation facilities mitigating the effects of “reactive power” on the distribution grid resulting from the air-conditioning compressor motors and fans operating in the multitude of homes and office buildings. You, the consumer, notice this as a prolonged dimming of lights or lower intensity of the TV screen when your air-conditioner or other motorized appliance starts. Georgetown resident Michael Robinson, a retired nuclear power plant operator and now an energy management consultant, explains: “When this ‘reactive power’ (measured in VARs or Volt Amperes Reactive) becomes great enough to pose a threat of damaging the generator, the generating facility must reduce the output voltage of the generator in order to keep the VARs within the manufacturer’s specifications for the loading of the generator.” He further explains, “As a result of reducing the generator voltage, and consequently the voltage on the grid, the appliances in your home draw more current (Amperes) because the appliance still needs a specific amount of power in order to perform ‘work’. Power is calculated as volts multiplied by amperes. If voltage goes down, then amps must go up to produce the same amount of power and therefore do the same amount of work.” As the appliances use more current, they get hotter. This is a result of the resistance of the wiring within the air-conditioning compressor motor or any other motorized equipment operating in the home. As the motor gets hotter, it gets closer to ‘failure’ due to overheating.

“But, there are some solutions!” states Mike Robinson of EnviroMajik, a Georgetown based company specializing in energy saving technologies. “We have a device, called the SteadyPowerTM, that suppresses power surges and voltage spikes before they have a chance to affect your electronics and appliances. It is connected to the electrical distribution box in your home and serves as a surge suppressor, an electronic noise and harmonic filter and power factor correction device that mitigates the effects of ‘reactive power’ (VARs) and saves you, on average, between 8% and 18% on your electric bill. Appliances run cooler and therefore they last longer.” He further states, “We are in the process of becoming an area distributor and energy consultant for EnergyShield-ABTM Attic Blanket System (from YellowBlue Eco Tech). This is a double-layered 99.9% pure polished aluminum foil blanket with a high tech insulation, or ‘thermal break’, sandwiched between the aluminum layers. Installing this system in your attic reflects 97% of radiant energy and restricts convection and conduction heat transfer from your attic space into your home thus cutting your heating and cooling expenses by 20-40%!”. That’s pretty significant savings! These products are also available for commercial applications.

Mr. Robinson says, “We are often asked how we differ from other energy savings companies. We are different from many other companies because of the products that we market. For instance, the SteadyPowerTM by Vollara, offers a 10-year, $25,000 warranty and has a life expectancy of over 20 years. The EnergyShield-ABTM Attic Blanket System is the same technology used to control the temperature in the International Space Station and the space environment suits used by our astronauts. I guess you could say that the products we offer have been thoroughly tested and will live up to expectations. But first, they have to live up to mine.”

The SteadyPowerTM by Vollara must be installed by a licensed electrician for the warranty to be activated. The EnergyShield-ABTM Attic Blanket System is installed by factory-trained specialists, is proven to reflect 97% of radiant energy and is an EnergyStar rated product. For more information on these and other money saving, green technology products, contact Michael Robinson at EnviroMajik.

What is Hotter than Facebook’s IPO for High Frequency Traders in Warsaw, Poland, and Kiev, Ukraine

Edgar Perez, Presenting The Speed Traders Workshop 2012, “How Algorithmic and High Frequency Traders Leverage Profitable Strategies to Find Alpha in Equities, Options, Futures and FX”, Warsaw, Poland, May 11, and Kiev, Ukraine, May 18, 2012.

(May 5, 2012, New York) — As reported by Bloomberg, Facebook Inc.’s $11.8 billion initial public offering will cement the status of 27-year-old Mark Zuckerberg as one of the world’s richest men and put his social network among the highest-valued companies in the U.S. Facebook is offering about 337.4 million shares for $28 to $35 each, according to a regulatory filing yesterday. At the upper end of that range, the co-founder’s stake would be $17.6 billion, making him richer than Microsoft Corp.’s Steve Ballmer and Russian steel billionaire Vladimir Lisin, who are both twice his age, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Zuckerberg, who began the service for Harvard classmates as a 19-year-old in his dorm room, built Facebook into the most popular social-networking site in the world, topping 900 million users last quarter. Now he has to prove he has the leadership skills to deliver enough growth to justify the company’s valuation, said Paul Saffo, managing director at Discern Analytics in San Francisco.

That being said, investors and traders in Poland and Ukraine will be paying close attention to Edgar Perez’s The Speed Traders Workshop 2012, “How Algorithmic and High Frequency Traders Leverage Profitable Strategies to Find Alpha in Equities, Options, Futures and FX” (http://www.TheSpeedTradersWorkshop.com) on May 11 in Warsaw and May 18 in Kiev.
