Grassroots Idea by Ecotech Institute Student Inspires Float in The Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade

About 150 students, staff and friends expected to participate in the parade to make it truly “green”

Denver, CO, March 13, 2014 – Chris Stevens, an Ecotech Institute student, wanted to help pick up recycling along The Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade route in order to keep this favorite green holiday truly as “green” as possible. He took his idea to parade organizers and from there it turned into a float in the parade that could gather recycling along the route. Students and staff at Ecotech Institute rallied around Chris and today they are making final preparations on the float, which will include a student made recycling bin to collect all recyclables collected during the parade, a truck outfitted with solar panels and a wind turbine.

“It has been remarkable watching my vision come to life,” said Chris. “I originally just wanted to help pick up trash and it’s turned into so much more. Building our Eco-Float has been an exciting adventure that brought several students together in great ways and I’m so proud of what we’ve put together. Our efforts will keep the parade route much cleaner.”

Ecotech Institute is the first and only school in the U.S. that is solely dedicated to sustainable energy, such as solar and wind. Chris is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering technology and will graduate this April. For him, this idea was simple, but sends a powerful message.

“We have to care about not only where our energy is coming from as we look ahead, but also how we’re taking care of our planet today. Small changes can make a difference and we’re excited to help divert trash from the landfill – giving it a second life,” said Chris.

To see images of the float’s progress you can keep up with the construction team by following Ecotech’s social media updates on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EcotechInstitute and Twitter at @Ecotech_Inst.

How Much Could Maintaining Home Appliances and Systems Cost in 2014

TotalProtect Home Warranty shares average cost of annual repairs and replacements; warns most homeowners aren’t prepared.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (March 11, 2014) — If a major home appliance or system unexpectedly breaks in 2014, do most homeowners know how much it would cost to repair or replace, and do they have the funds set aside? According to experts at TotalProtect, a home warranty company that aims to make home ownership easier, the answer is a resounding no and it could spell trouble for many in the coming year.

“Our research shows more than 60 percent of homeowners feel that an expense of more than $2,000 would be devastating to their household finances, yet the annual cost of repairs is often much more,” said Steve Burnett, general manager and senior vice president of TotalProtect. “In addition to the financials, there is a great deal of stress that comes with finding the right service provider and trusting them to perform the job effectively and honestly.”

According to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and a Bloomberg report, the average age of consumer durable goods is the highest since 1962. This means homeowners are keeping their appliances longer than ever before – an average of 5.3 years – increasing the chance they could break from routine wear and tear.

“The best way to ensure financial stability is proper planning, said Emilio Escandon, CPA, principal-in-charge of the Northeast Region Tax Practice of national accounting firm MBAF. “Setting aside a designated amount each month so you are covered in the event of a major crisis is preferable as opposed to hoping for the best and then having to incur an unplanned expense. It’s a healthy budgeting habit and provides peace of mind simultaneously.”

“A home warranty is a great option for those who want to budget throughout the year and avoid a large, unplanned expense,” added Burnett. “The truth is, things break. Homeowners should ask themselves, ‘can I withstand these costs?’ If the answer is no, now’s the time to put a new plan in place.”

USDA Certifies New Cold Chain Technology at South Florida Logistics Center

First-of-its-kind, eco-friendly process extends the shelf-life of perishables arriving through South Florida.

Coral Gables, FL (March 10, 2014) — Flagler Global Logistics, formerly South Florida Logistics Services, today announced its South Florida Logistics Center has received United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approval for a revolutionary treatment process for fruits, vegetables and other perishable items. The new technology allows for better management of the “cold chain” to extend produce shelf life and quality, while the Miami-based entry point of the South Florida Logistics Center decreases the amount of time the products are in transport.

Industry reports cite nearly $35 billion of perishable foods are wasted annually, with nearly half of those losses due to temperature changes experienced in-transit between the grower and the grocer. Flagler Global Logistics’ new USDA-approved treatment process stabilizes the cold chain integrity by exposing fruits and vegetables to a more uniform temperature, vastly improving the quality of the products. Additionally, the new treatment’s filtration system makes the process more environmentally friendly.

“This new technology is a game changer for exporters looking to bring their produce to supermarket shelves in the United States,” said Chris Scott, President and CEO of Flagler Global Logistics. “With this cold chain infrastructure in place at the South Florida Logistics Center, our partners have a new gateway to the Southeast that allows them to get their product to market more quickly-adding at least a week or more to the product’s shelf life. It’s a true competitive advantage, aiding our economy’s growth while saving exporters and grocers time and money.”

The South Florida Logistics Center officially opened for business in October 2013. Located adjacent to the Miami International Airport, the 200-acre intermodal logistics complex offers world-class cargo handling including unprecedented multimodal transportation access, Foreign Trade Zone advantages and refrigerated cargo options.

The Logistic Center’s first building, a 170,000-square-foot facility, is now fully operational including 60,000 square feet of refrigerated space.

With more than two million square feet of Class-A warehouse and distribution space at full build out, the South Florida Logistics Center offers flexible space options with existing space from 12,000 to 275,000 square feet and build-to-suit space. Conveniently located adjacent to the Miami International Airport with exclusive rail connectivity to PortMiami, Port Everglades and Florida East Coast Railway’s intermodal yard, South Florida Logistics Center significantly reduces transit times and transportation costs for importers and exporters looking to reach end-users throughout Florida, the U.S.A., Latin America and the Caribbean. The Center also offers convenient access to all major highways, including I-95, I-75, Florida Turnpike, US 41 and US 27.

Output Factory Server for Adobe InDesign Improves Image Color Management

Zevrix Solutions announces Output Factory Server 1.0.10, a feature update to its output workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. Output Factory Server automates printing and exporting from InDesign by processing files from watched hot folders. The software offloads output tasks to a central system leaving operator workstations free from the output process. The new version lets users create large format JPEG files and improves color management of exported images.

Toronto (ON), Canada (March 7, 2014) — Zevrix Solutions today announces the release of Output Factory Server 1.0.10, a feature update to its solution to automate printing, exporting and post-processing from Adobe InDesign. Developed originally for a major magazine publisher in the United States to free up their operator computers from outputting InDesign files, the software automates InDesign workflow by processing files from watched hot folders.

The new version lets users create large format JPEG images that exceed the file size limitations imposed by InDesign. This improvement has been achieved by using intermediate PDF files as the image source instead of InDesign’s direct JPEG export. In addition, the new update lets users embed document’s color profile to preserve the original image color values in exported TIFF and JPEG files.

Under Output Factory Server workflow, production artists, prepress operators and designers simply copy InDesign jobs to hot folders that reside on a network. Users can create hot folders for any type of output – for example hi-res PDF, large format printing, EPUB files and so on. Output Factory Server offers the following key features:

Print and export InDesign files automatically from watched hot folders
-Support for print, PDF, PostScript, EPS, JPEG, Flash, EPUB and other formats
-Supports unlimited users on a network
-Export as single pages
Layer versioning: output specific layers and their combinations as single files
-Variable output file names
-Preflight files before output
-Automatic e-mail notifications of process stages and errors

Pricing and Availability:
Output Factory Server can be purchased from Zevrix web site for US$699.95, as well as from authorized resellers. Trial is also available for download. BatchOutput Server users can upgrade for $349.97. Output Factory Server runs on Mac OS X 10.6-10.9 and works with Adobe InDesign CS3-CC.

From Street Stray to Outer Space Story Focuses on Human Emotions During Cold War Era

Before man journeyed into space, animals were sent into the cosmos. The Laika Mission is a fictional story based on a real-life street stray that became part of the Soviet Union’s effort to win the space race.

Houston, TX (USA), March 08, 2014 — Author Mark Phillips, a retired naval officer who spent part of his career hunting Soviet submarines, said The Laika Mission focuses on not only history and science, but the emotion of the world’s fascination with space during the 1950’s. His story is about the launch of the Soviet Union’s second satellite which carried special cargo – a dog named Laika.

“Readers will follow her journey from street stray to space, and meet her young Russian dog handler, Dimitri, who readies her for the historic flight,” Phillips said. “The story brings Dimitri and Laika together with a venerable rocket scientist and two military doctors amongst the backdrop of a communist country trying to shake the oppression of the past.”

Published by Halo Publishing International, The Laika Mission will intrigue readers from teen-age to adult as they wonder if the dog will make it around the Earth and return home safely or have her chances for survival doomed by the rush to the cosmos. “We mostly focus on the politics and science of the United States race to space against the Soviet Union, but Author Mark Phillips brings out the emotion involved in the human desire to be number one in the world,” said Publisher Lisa Umina.

Phillips said he wanted to show how people working on the mission felt. “I wanted to show the human element. We tend to forget that the scientists and others involved were human beings, not simply our enemies.”

DAD Technology. Optimizing Work in BPM

DAD (Dynamically Activated Divisions) Technology, recognized by the analyst firm Gartner Inc. as an innovative functionality, is used to create user-friendly Dynamic Forms

Woburn, MA, March 07, 2013 – AURA (www.auraportal.com), a global provider of AuraPortal. Business Process Management (BPM) software, has announced that the latest developments in DAD Technology that have been incorporated exclusively in AuraPortal BPM clearly differentiate it from other BPMs, creating a fluency in its use unheard of until now.

AuraPortal has been distinguished with great advantage over its competitors by Ovum in its Decision Matrix report and by other renowned analyst firms.

In short, the idea of DAD Technology is that anyone performing a task within a process will find that, on opening it, the information will appear in a timely fashion depending on the direction the task itself takes and the circumstances or options that are progressively chosen. This functionality enables maximum effectiveness and an extraordinary saving in execution time.

Manel Orovio, Technical Director at AuraPortal, comments:

“A common problem for those who work with BPM Suites is the fact that the forms often contain hundreds of fields to cover all of the possible scenarios that may occur throughout the task execution, although, depending on various circumstances, the performer of the task may only need to see or act on a few of them. If the user has to look at hundreds of fields that they are not going to use it can make their work cumbersome, and can also lead to multiple execution errors.

With DAD Technology, as the performer executes the task, the system makes the elements appear in the form automatically as and when needed. This greatly simplifies work.

The person responsible for designing the Task form should make it as user friendly as possible, so that on opening it, the user will find a form that contains all the data and documents necessary for them to carry out their work without having to leave the Task. Thus maximum effectiveness is achieved.”

About AURA (www.auraportal.com)

Eye Tracking helps Internet Marketing and Online Advertising

Using the latest Eye Tracking equipment Vancouver area company I-METRIX can now help answer many questions using eye tracking technology samples of the webpage and ad can be viewed by test participants and their eyes tracked as they progress through the website.

Vancouver, BC, Canada (March 6, 2014) — Many companies and marketing managers invest in Internet marketing and online advertising, however they are not sure how the viewers will react to their adverts.

Banner blindness is a term used where viewers never see the ad due to them learning how to tune out items they consider advertising and that might slow them down with their endeavours. This can happen when a viewer is looking for particular information and goes directly to the area they are looking for.

Several factors can be involved that affect the success of online banner type ads.

Is this the right type of website to advertise on; are their visitors likely candidates for your offering?

What is the best position for the ad is it the Leader Board a Tower Ad or other position?

Are there too many ads competing for traffic on the page, is the webpage too busy with other information to distract the viewer.

Does the ad contrast with the webpage? Do animations in the ad help or deter the viewer.

Is the ad positioned above or below the page fold, or is it rarely seen.

If paying for impressions only it is critical that the ad at least gets seen. Will changing the ad style or even moving to a text ad improve the investment?

If images are involved will changing them to a different image improve click trough rates?

Many of these questions are difficult to answer often when low click trough rates are blamed on the website used for advertising and it could well be one of many other factors.

Using the latest Eye Tracking equipment Vancouver area company I-METRIX (http://www.I-Metrix.ca) can now help answer many of these questions using eye tracking technology samples of the webpage and ad can be viewed by test participants and their eyes tracked as they progress through the website. Tasks are often given to the participants and real time data and reports are generated. Often different scenarios can be created to determine which the most effective promotion for the campaign is. Similar services are offered by I-METRIX for customers that place advertising in video applications.
