FRA lends support to Brazilian Forestry Plantation Claims

Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has announced its support for a statement from Timberinvestments.co, claiming that plantation projects in Brazil can help to reduce deforestation in the developing country.

Bainbridge Island, WA, November 23, 2011 – Forestry Research Associates (FRA) has announced its support for a statement from Timberinvestments.co, claiming that plantation projects in Brazil can help to reduce deforestation in the developing country.

FRA is a research and analysis consultancy that specializes in forestry investments as an alternative asset class. Its analysis partner, Peter Collins, claims that Timberinvestments.co is correct in claiming that plantations, such as those run by forestry investment firm Greenwood Management in Brazil, can contribute to the effort to reduce deforestation.

Timberinvestments.co claims that European investors have become increasingly keen on timber investments as an option instead of investing in the stock markets. Forestry has typically seen far better returns than the equity markets over the past decide and at the same time, the rate of deforestation in Brazil has fallen significantly.

FRA claims that the forestry plantations are helping to provide alternative timber that is produced through felling native trees. The consultancy also adds that the Brazilian government has been taking more and more measures to try to monitor the destruction of the rainforest by using satellite technology, for example.

FRA welcomed the move from Timberinvestments.co to try to talk about the destruction that is still going on, however, and the fact that attracting investments in forestry projects taking place in the region can help to increase the supply of non-native trees for use in the production of charcoal, for example.

Plantation projects can also help to promote sustainable forestry management practices, which will ensure that the forestry industry can continue to exist for generation to come, while preserving the native rainforests.

Peter Collins of the FRA explained, “Forestry is a strong asset class for those who want to diversify their portfolios at the moment.”

He added, “In addition, investing in sustainable projects in Brazil can help to protect the natural forests from illegal logging.”

Effekt-Etage Creates Innovative iPad App

Seemingly real paint samples that react to movements of the iPad, leather that you can actually touch as well as see, and individualised image content in many app areas. A new benchmark for innovation, interactivity and customer communication.

BMW Individual, the most exclusive way to drive a BMW, is now available as an interactive experience on the iPad. Thanks to an innovative user interface, this unprecedented virtual product catalogue enables a breathtaking experience of BMW Individual, the BMW premium range.

The app commissioned by BMW M GmbH and developed by Effekt-Etage had a simple aim: to fully exploit the interactive potential offered by the iPad medium in an innovative way, thus creating a new benchmark. The app developed by Effekt-Etage is set to establish a new trend in the category of interactive product magazines.

Its various chapters relate interesting facts about the BMW Individual philosophy, paint finishes, fine leather upholstery and other equipment options. In addition, users can create a virtual vehicle according to their preferences and view the finished result in a Visualiser.

The app is the first to achieve a near-realistic representation of paint finish samples in a virtual environment. In part this is due to Effekt-Etage’s high-quality 3D renderings, which perfectly communicate the BMW Individual paint finishes’ special appeal. In addition, the virtual paint finishes react to movements of the iPad, so the user has the actual impression of moving a real-life paint sample in relation to a light source. This virtual reality effect has also been implemented for the leather samples, allowing the user to leaf through them and touch them.

The interactive capability of this app means that almost every product image can be interacted with, creating a virtual environment that allows users to experience the look and feel of the various equipment details for themselves.

Another outstanding feature is the way the app combines the product information and vehicle configuration processes.

The conventional approach involves the user finding information about products and features such as paint finishes, equipment etc. in a physical catalogue, or on the web. They then begin a separate step of vehicle configuration in a Configurator, beginning with a default vehicle. The BMW Individual app goes one step further by combining these previously separate steps. While reading the various chapters, users are already able to bookmark paintwork finishes, leather colours or other features they like. They can effectively configure their vehicle while gathering information, performing both activities within a single process. As a result, the vehicle initially shown in the Configurator already reflects the user’s individual preferences.

Users can of course save “their” dream car, share it with friends and acquaintances on Facebook, file it in their personal photo album, or send it off in an e-mail.

The BMW Individual iPad app comes in English and German, is optimised for the iPad and iPad2, and is available free of charge in the App Store.

Christmas Shoppers Should Go Online To Find Black Friday Deals, Says Parcel2Go

Britain’s leading online parcel delivery specialist Parcel2Go has reminded shoppers looking for great deals on their Christmas presents this year to remember to capitalise on Black Friday on November 25.

The annual event, which marks the start of the Christmas shopping rush in America, is designed to inspire US consumers and get the tills ringing at the start of the festive season. But thanks to the internet, next week’s shopping bonanza won’t be restricted to people living in the United States.

Amazon UK is one retailer that is joining in to bring British shoppers deals on a range of goods from books and music to fashion and beauty products, and Parcel2Go has reminded people not to miss out. Amazon will be offering timed deals between Monday, November 21 and Black Friday on the 25th.

Richard Mercer, marketing director at Parcel2Go, said: “Black Friday might have begun as a US tradition but deal-conscious shoppers from the UK now have the chance to beat the Christmas rush and grab themselves a few bargains.

“Online shopping has completely revolutionised the way people buy presents at Christmas and as long as people make sure that their gifts are being shipped with leading couriers then buying online is a great way to avoid the queues at the tills. U.S. Spanish Children’s Book Sales Climb

Amazon Spain launch and U.S. book sales indicate next big market. November is National Picture Book Month.

Midvale, UT, November 22, 2011 – Publishing is evolving and crossing borders like never before, as is children’s literature. Amazon.com’s recent entry into Spain and the explosion of Spanish-language ebook platforms are indicators of the next big publishing market.

Sales of Spanish language books in the United States demonstrate significant demand–including for children’s literature in Spanish. Bilingual author Karl Beckstrand has seen an increase in demand for his Spanish-language and bilingual picture books and e-books.

This year Beckstrand has had three titles on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” in Spanish list. His Spanish titles outsell the English versions, though most of his titles come with an English/Spanish pronunciation guide. Positive national reviews by the Horn Book blog and ForeWord Reviews don’t hurt either.

During November, National Picture Book Month, Beckstrand expects record sales–not because of the added emphasis–but because, lately, every month is a record sales month. Customers are not all likely to be to Spanish-speakers. It may be that individuals, schools and families agree with Amazon: an additional language is a good idea.

Considering that native Spanish speakers are more common than native English speakers worldwide (the only other native language more common than Spanish is Mandarin, according to Time and Wikipedia), Amazon’s lead should be followed. Beckstrand’s picture books may be a good start.

Premio Publishing has been delighting readers since 2004. Nationally lauded (ForeWord Reviews, Horn Book blog, Midwest Review), our activity picture books–including a cookbook for kids, Spanish/bilingual books with pronunciation guide and English, Spanish or bilingual text, and ebook mysteries–feature minority characters, capture attention and create repeat readers. Distribution via: Ingram, Brodart, Baker & Taylor, Follett/BWI, Amazon, Nook/Kindle/ibooks/Kobo, Premiobooks.com

Magazine Subscriptions Demystify Online Shopping

Forrester research indicates that, by the end of 2011, Americans will spend around $200 billion in online purchases. They also predict that by the year 2015, U.S. retail sales will well surpass the $275 billion mark. This growth in ecommerce is being attributed to existing shoppers pushing their online shopping boundaries by purchasing more items off the World Wide Web like home appliances and furniture in addition to increasing spending in traditionally popular online shopping categories such as books and media. Also driving the numbers are consumers who are turning to the internet as a shopping resource for the very first time.

Print magazine publishers are looking to be a part of this dynamic and rapidly expanding online retail marketplace. By partnering with various online retail sites, popular discount magazines which are available as low cost, promotional subscriptions and have over the years cultivated a loyal readership base, will be able to avail their readers of opportunities to buy items featured within their publications via online sales portals.

Magazine aficionados who hold their magazine subscriptions dear will find the explorations being made by publishers to harmonize print magazine content with online retail sites advantageous. Magazine lovers need not renounce their love for the printed periodical but can use it instead as a trusted guide to chaperone them through their online shopping experience. Magazines and cheap magazine subscriptions will become especially invaluable tools for all consumers who feel intimidated when purchasing items from the internet or who have heretofore felt reluctant to shop online.

In recent years, many publications have shifted their focus from print to digital magazines, in some cases completely revamping their online presence. While some have found great success in the switch, making the entire magazine available online, while others have struggled to get footholds in the online arena opting to only post specific content from the current issue. In either case, the content is usually free, which leads to the other problem: whether or not online magazines are profitable from a business standpoint. The primary reason for this trepidation is that the internet is still considered an unstable marketing tool.

Magazine lovers however can enjoy a choice of online or print magazines and save on annual subscriptions, sometimes getting a whole year’s worth of magazines for the cost of just two or three at stand prices.

Infantellina Contemporary present, in Venice (Italy) the art exhibition “Dreaming of Lucidity”

Whole treatises have been written about the dream and its motivations, sources and consequences anayizing the topic from the most different points of view.

Berlin, Germany, Monday – November 21, 2011 — The human being, since the dawn of time, was fascinated by the magic and strangeness that resides in dreams. Whole treatises have been written about the dream and its motivations, sources and consequences analyzing the topic from the most different points of view. Special studies have been conducted since the 60s by looking at specific dreams of examinated groups including some subjects with special peculiarities: in addition to dreams in color and sharpness they unexpectedly remembered their dreams, claimed to drive the characters of their personages and deciding the screenplay and the choreography, practically they were the directors of their own dreams. It was observed that this capability had multiple purposes and effects, the characters of lucid dreams had the temperaments, the forms and the voices that oneironauts decided to award to them, as well as they determined what the scenarios and the scripts are supposed to be. They were the pilots who decided, at their own will and by lucid dreaming, whether the characteristics had to match with reality or if new parameters had to be given by applying transformations that finally produced a sort of “fantasy” (film), thus they could had achieved their wishes and at the same time been fully aware of the own creative act.

The lucid dream is particularly strong thanks to the fact that, compared to the few canonical minutes of standard dreams, they can be prolonged and that the scan time is more or less equivalent to the real time. In the western hemisphere many have dissertated about “lucid dreams” including Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and Friedrich Nietzsche, compared to the eastern approach where lucid dreaming is deeply rooted in ancient times. So it can be interesting for the audience to check out for more, as lucid dreaming can be induced through training in order to develop a capacity that for some is innate.

Of course Art is the supreme instrument that allows to shape the reality or to talk about it, always based on the interpretation and technique of each single artist. The artists are the creators and makers of visions more or less conventional, more or less suited to the objective reality. They develop a whole idea or a concept deciding the roles and the positions and the times through the use of colors, materials, techniques. The aims of the artists are the most different ones. Some may be: to communicate emotionally and so avoiding accidently unintended sophisms stemming from the use of words; to outsource their intimate peculiarities and hidden desires; to bring up a memory defining new paths and by that altering the experiences of reality. Basically, artists want to share their beliefs, their point of view and thoughts that were lived, to share the passions and perplexities, report their own or induced experiences, to be and imagine that others can be not only pawns but leading actors.

What is the artist if not the oneironaut that not only looks, lives, develops, produces but exists in order to communicate with the public by metabolizing too what comes back from the interaction with the spectator itself, gently dwelling in front of or being attracted by the artwork, expressing own thoughts and subjective emotions.

The title “Dreaming of Lucidity” wants to be a stimulation to the audience, led by the qualities of those individual artworks. The selection of the artists followed a specific thread by extrapolating from the single individual personality the various references and still-image-experiences. The origin, extraction, life of each participant is very different from each other and provides an emotional spectrum of arguments and aesthetic interpretations.

Children’s Book Series Inspires Lifelong Learning

Experienced educator Molly Nero has created a series of stories to get children excited about learning.

Houston, TX (USA), Monday – November 21, 2011 — Experienced educator Molly Nero has created a series of stories to get children excited about learning.

“Learning is not just for school, it’s for life,” says Nero, author of Smarty Pig, soon to be released through Halo Publishing International. She hopes teachers will utilize Smarty Pig in their classrooms to inspire their students. “It is important to help children understand that learning to count and read is not just something we make them do at school, but lessons they will be applying throughout their lives.”

Smarty Pig is a story about a family of pigs who give up on school. One of the pigs, though, loves to learn. She creates games to help others practice skills eventually getting the family members to realize that learning can be fun and how important school really is to their future. Reaching out to young students, the pro-learning book is geared toward children in grades K-3.

“This book series will be valuable to teachers working to inspire learning in children,” said Halo International Publisher Lisa Umina. “Molly knows from her own experience as a teacher how important it is to get children excited about school.”

First-grade teacher Barbara Walsh said Smarty Pig ( http://www.smartypigbooks.com ) appeals to readers of all ages. “Parents and teachers love the positive message about learning,” Walsh said. “And kids love it because it’s fun.”

Nero said she wants children to understand that school is a good place, and it isn’t just about tests. Creative and experiential learning are essential to development, said the author. She said reading to her own children inspired her to write stories that will build self-esteem and help young students deal with issues at school.

A native of Arlington, Texas and the youngest in a family of seven children, Nero taught academics and music at the elementary school level after achieving her degree at the University of Texas. She also has experience as a musical theater performer. Nero recently relocated to Pennsylvania with her husband and two children, ages 9 and 15. She leads Shining Stars Musical Theater Camp, and also developed My Kids Art Forever.com, a business that creates unique gifts from children’s artwork.

Smarty Pig will be released in early 2012. To order the book, visit halopublishing.com. For additional information, visit http://www.smartypigbooks.com. To reach Molly Nero, call 412-722-4373 or e-mail mollynero@smartypigbooks.com.
