Aditya Bansal and Praveen Elak, Weartrons, Presenting Run-n-Read at Wearable Computing Conference NYC

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking takes Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (www.wearable-computing-conference.com) global: New York City, San Francisco, London, Seoul and Munich, “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”.

New York City, NY, USA (January 29, 2014) — Aditya Bansal, Technical Co-Founder, and Praveen Elak, Business Co-Founder, of Weartrons Labs, will present at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”, forums to be held throughout 2014 in New York City (January 30), San Francisco (March 18), London (May 29), Seoul (September 25) and Munich (November 20).

Started in 2013 by experienced hardware specialists and product evangelists Mr. Bansal and Mr. Elak, Weartrons imagines and creates wearable electronics products that aim to make day to day life better. Based in New York, NY, Weartrons is committed to building simple and inexpensive products that anyone can use. As a child, co-founder Mr. Bansal was a constant source of consternation for his parents due to his tendency to dismantle every electronic object in the house. Years later, aided by a PhD from Purdue, he creates wearable electronics to common problems. Not satisfied with a PhD from SUNY Buffalo, Mr. Elak did an Exec MBA from Wharton. Armed with these degrees, he has been walking the line between business and technology with a successful mobile software venture in its exit phase.

Weartrons, creator of wearable electronics products that aim to make day to day life better, launched last year a project on Dragon Innovation’s crowdfunding platform. Weartrons’ goal was to raise funds to begin production of its small device, Run-n-Read. The Run-n-Read is a device that enables people to read while working out and can be used with most cardiovascular workout machines, such as treadmills, elliptical trainers, stepmills, stairmasters and stationary bikes. It reduces the strain on eyes while reading on a train or bus.

“Run-n-Read is providing an elegant solution for a problem that many people can easily relate to and have assumed that there is no fix for it,” said Mr. Elak. “We are launching on Dragon Innovation’s platform as we believe that their deep experience and practical knowledge in volume manufacturing of electronic products will help us recognize and address – all of the second-, third-, and fourth- order problems. Those are the things you can’t learn elsewhere unless you try and fail, something we cannot afford.”

What looks like a smaller version of a zippo lighter with a clip, is actually a stabilizing device that makes it easier to read while your head and/or body is moving. Clipped to your headband or to your shirt, the Run-n-Read uses motion sensors and tiny controllers to sync your head movements with a tablet via Bluetooth. The device tracks the user’s head movements and then adjusts the text on the screen in real time so that it bounces around in time to the user’s pace. Though a person standing nearby can see the text jumping up and down, the person wearing the device would see the text as perfectly still.

Fighting Fires and Speed Tickets with Google Glass at Wearable Computing Conference 2014 New York

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking takes Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (www.wearable-computing-conference.com) global: New York City, San Francisco, London, Seoul and Munich, “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”.

New York City, NY, USA (January 22, 2014) — According to CNN, Patrick Jackson has developed an app for Google Glass, Google’s experimental head-mounted computer, which feeds important information directly to the eye-line of firefighters in an emergency. When a building is on fire, every second counts for the first responders rushing to the scene. This computer-savvy firefighter in North Carolina is hoping a bit of futuristic wearable technology and clever programming can help save time and lives, themes that will be covered at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”, forums to be held throughout 2014 in New York City (January 30), San Francisco (March 18), London (May 29), Seoul (September 25) and Munich (November 20).

By routing information directly to Glass, the app can save firefighters from having to stop what they’re doing in order to reach for a radio, smartphone, tablet or computer. Jackson plans on adding even more useful data in future versions, like information on specific buildings including blueprints, potential building hazards and contact information for owners. A firefighter might be able to say an address out loud or simply look at a building with the Glass camera to retrieve information.

Glass can also record the first video of a situation when crews arrive. That early documentation will be important to fire investigations down the line. For now, Glass isn’t compatible with the oxygen masks firefighters wear on the ground, so the app is more for external personnel. Jackson’s Glass stays behind in the truck.

A self-taught programmer, Jackson first started tinkering with computers when he was 7 and later spent a year studying computer science in college before transferring to the University of North Carolina, Asheville, for an environmental management and policy program. He became a firefighter and didn’t do much with computers for another decade. Then, about four years ago, he purchased a smartphone and was inspired to start programming again. “Since then I’ve taught myself way more than I ever knew about programming. I’ve developed an Android app, an iPhone app and a Glass app,” Jackson said.

His first project was the Android app Firefighter Log, which similarly routed key information directly to the smartphone, including text messages from fire and EMS dispatchers, streams of emergency radio feeds, and location information for fires and nearby hydrants. Jackson says more than 20,000 people have downloaded the apps. To get his hands on Google Glass, Jackson submitted his idea to Google’s IfIHadGlass competition. He raised money to cover the cost of the hardware through an Indiegogo campaign and received the device in September.

Other fire departments and researchers also are experimenting with wearable technology, thanks to a recent availability of affordable wearable sensors that can track vitals and environmental factors like air quality and temperature. The Wearable Advanced Sensor Platform, or WASP, can track a firefighter’s location as well as physical data such as heart rate, breathing and activity levels in real time. A Belgium finalist for Microsoft’s Imagine Cup created a system that combines location sensors and augmented reality glasses to help firefighters move around buildings when there is minimal visibility.

When he’s not fighting fires or perfecting his app, Jackson is working on another possibly life-saving use for Google Glass: an app to help administer CPR. Using the built-in accelerometer in Glass, the app can measure how fast someone’s chest compressions are and instruct the person to go faster or slower.

Why Wearable Technology is all but Fad at Golden Networking’s New York Wearable Computing Conference

Building off of the momentum of past successful conferences, Golden Networking takes Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (www.wearable-computing-conference.com) global: New York City, San Francisco, London, Seoul and Munich, “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”.

New York City, NY, USA (January 22, 2014) — Is wearable technology truly destined for the great success that its many advocates might suggest? Hundreds of developers and enthusiasts about these technologies will converge at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2014 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “How Wearable Technologies are Revolutionizing Mobile Wireless Internet, Healthcare and Fashion”, forums to be held throughout 2014 in New York City (January 30), San Francisco (March 18), London (May 29), Seoul (September 25) and Munich (November 20).

According to Forbes contributor Georgiana Foster, for real success in the world of technology, entirely new products must be introduced that can create entirely new markets, thus impacting society on a much deeper level. At the moment, a lot of what she is seeing just doesn’t do all that much. And for a trend that includes the word ‘wearable’ in its product description, she claims she honestly wouldn’t be caught dead in a lot of it.

There seems to be a huge gap between what is being made and what the female consumer, in particular, would be willing to purchase, Foster continues. “Almost everything available is currently too chunky and masculine. The products seem to be aimed at men with a vague hope that (maybe) some women might like them. Let’s think about who, between men and women, is more likely to wear an accessory, or even multiple accessories at the same time to begin with. Surely the answer is transparently obvious.”

Design needs to be a much more important factor when it comes to wearable technology, in order for it to appeal to absolutely everyone, including women. Foster can’t help but wonder if it’s a case of the tech industry simply needing more female designers? But even more crucially, these products need a real use and purpose. In this new digital age, what a brand actually means is just as, if not more, important to the consumer than simply what it does. It doesn’t take a genius to predict that the brand that manages to reach equilibrium between style and substance holds the key to tech world domination, she concludes.

Wearable Tech Trends to Watch on November 7 at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference NYC

Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 29, 2013) — Wearable technology is all the rage, but the craze goes beyond connected eyewear such as Google Glass and smart timepieces such as Samsung Galaxy Gear and Apple’s rumored iWatch. Designers are creating apparel, accessories and fitness wear that can do everything from monitor your heart rate to charge your smartphone. These trends will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7.

CNBC reports that start-up Heapsylon has a smart sock, Sensoria, that is paired with an anklet to automatically detect the type and level of activity based on pressure signals coming from the foot of the wearer. Sensors in the sock communicate data to the anklet, which then can relay the information to the user via an app. For example, it can track a runner’s regular form and send an alert when he or she is making an injurious movement.

Berlin-based label Moon Berlin, which makes luxury clothing, focuses on using technology to enhance the look of its designs. Soft-circuit LEDs are integrated into the garments, connected to an electrical circuit attached to rubber-like materials that are integrated into fabrics.

Someday users may be able to charge their smartphone with their clothes. Flexible solar panels have inspired designers to come up with clothes and accessories that can power electronics. Start-up Wearable Solar is using the technology to make lightweight wired garments that enable the wearer to charge a smartphone up to 50 percent if worn in the sun for a full hour. Finally, New York-based Voltaic Systems makes a collection of bags that can charge a variety of devices.

Why Apple iWatch and Google Glass Will Change Tech at Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York

Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 29, 2013) — Apple iWatch and Google Glass are a few of the new high-tech wearable products that are capturing the imagination of technophiles and public in general. More and more large-scale companies from Olympus to Samsung are pouring significant investments in wearable technology. Analysts predict a rally in the new mobile device category is around the corner as demand grows.

The introduction of wearable technologies allows users to access technology hands free. There will no longer be the need to carry around bulky devices. Information can be accessed at your command and pictures or videos can be taken with the wink of an eye. What are the key features of this technology? How are these functions different from the traditional computer and phone programs? How can wearable technologies be integrated with already established technologies?

There is no doubt that the wearable technology is a robust flexible display market, which IHS predicts will reach nearly 800 million unit shipments by 2020 from just 3.2 million in this year. That is why a rising number of companies get involved in it in spite of excessive expense.

Several companies have expressed interest in designing wearable technology including Google, which has thousands of people testing its Google Glass smart headwear through its Google Explorer program. Meanwhile, Dell, Samsung and Acer, all of these electronics giants claim about developing wearable gadgets to deal with declining sales of their traditional products. Most companies are still in development and stuck in testing period as exorbitant amounts of money on this next-generation technology. This technology spur will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7, forum featuring insightful discussions:

What Samsung Galaxy Gear SmartWatch Brings at Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City

Golden Networking brings Wearable Computing Conference 2013 New York City (www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, November 7.

New York City, NY, USA (October 29, 2013) — Samsung Galaxy Gear, the latest smartwatch from the Korean electronics company, was just announced on September 4, 2013, and is now available in over 140 countries. What this technology development bring to the consumer landscape will be debated at Golden Networking’s Wearable Computing Conference 2013 (http://www.wearable-computing-conference.com), “Revolutionizing the Human Experience Through Next-Generation Technology”, to be held in New York City, on November 7, forum featuring insightful discussions:

– Key Features of Wearable Technologies

– Wearable Computing and its Impact on the Technology Marketplace
– The Future of Wearable Computing Today

Masable’s Lance Ulanoff has already alerted the developer’s community of 70 third-party apps ready for the Galaxy Gear when it launches in the U.S. in October. When he quizzed Samsung execs on whether apps are ported or built, they acknowledged that they’re mostly built. Samsung Mobile’s Chief Product Officer Kevin Packingham, however, clarified: Since the apps are all Android-based, “it’s typically slimming it down, not a complete rewrite.”

As for where the rest of the social network apps are (at the unveiling the Gear only had Path), Ryan Bidan, Director of Product Marketing for Samsung Mobile, said, “There are safe expectations that additional social networks are coming in short order.”

While the Galaxy Gear can already take pictures and sense its own movement and orientation, the initial set of apps and connected devices (namely just one, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3) only scratch the surface of what’s possible with the device. Samsung plans to deliver a set of open APIs to developers so they can engage with all the sensors on the Galaxy Gear and leverage its persistent connection to the phone.

Finally, when asked how the Gear can succeed where, for instance, Microsoft Spot watches failed, Packingham first offered an admittedly trite answer, “The technology available to us makes a big difference,” adding, “These devices are genuinely intelligent.” He also noted that they run actual operating systems (Android) and have access to far more real-time data than their ill-fated predecessors. They’re also more adaptable and flexible, putting for instance, your social network on your wrist. According to Bidan, who was at Microsoft during the Spot era, “the technology is finally catching up to the expectations.” They also believe the smartphone era has helped train and prepare consumers for this new age of smart watches.
