National Volunteer Week is April 7th – 13th . How Will You Give Back?

Help Interim Inc. Celebrate National Volunteer Week By Offering Your Time and Talents

Monterey, CA, March 07, 2019 — National Volunteer Week is April 7th – 13th , and Interim Inc. is seeking volunteers from the community to pitch in to help support their valuable services.

Interim is a Monterey-based private nonprofit organization that provides support services, housing and treatment for adults with mental illness in Monterey County.

Volunteering has long been a popular activity in the U.S. Each year millions of people give their time and talents without any compensation. While people volunteer to help others, they also get something in return.

A growing body of research has established a strong relationship between volunteering and health: those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer.”

Interim has a number of volunteer opportunities available to members of the community, for example, group cooking projects. Many of our clients benefit from having prepared frozen meals accessible, so it’s nice to have a group of volunteers to prepare and package individual entrees. You can schedule a weekend cooking project with your club, congregation or co-workers.

If you are a gardener and would like to donate your time, the garden and greenhouse at Shelter Cove need tending during the spring and summer months. Volunteers who can help Interim clients with planting, weeding and harvesting are greatly appreciated!

Our Voices and OMNI Resource Center would love to offer a wider range of classes. If you can teach a four-to eight-week class in yoga, art, Spanish, or cooking, we’d love to hear from you.

To inquire about volunteer opportunities with Interim Inc., contact the Development Office at (831) 649-4522, ext. 205.

Monterey County Nonprofit Max’s Helping Paws Gives Holiday Hope to Families Who Can’t Afford Treatment for Pets Who Become Ill

To Heather, her dog Trigger is more than a companion, he’s her “gift from God” and a certified Emotional Support Animal (E.S.A). But even more than that, he’s a member of her family along with her husband and three kids.

Del Rey Oaks, CA, December 23, 2018 — To Heather, her dog Trigger is more than a companion, he’s her “gift from God” and a certified Emotional Support Animal (E.S.A). But even more than that, he’s a member of her family along with her husband and three kids.

Heather is a U.S. Navy veteran, a former mineman used to dealing with high explosives, and suffers from PTSD. Trigger helps her deal with everyday life as a PTSD sufferer. So when Trigger fell ill, with blood and vomiting, he was diagnosed with a multitude of conditions that needed to be addressed right away, Heather’s heart sank.

Heather and her family were faced with a very difficult decision. The family was not able to afford the necessary medical treatment for Trigger. Without treatment and surgery, he would surely die.

“It’s hard to imagine that you could lose a member of your family over not being able to afford a simple test that we as humans take for granted,” said Heather. “I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like if I didn’t have him in my life.”

Luckily, Pet Specialists of Monterey, one of 20 partners, graciously arranged to have Trigger receive assistance from Max’s Helping Paws Foundation (MHPF). Max’s Helping Paws Foundation is a Monterey County-based animal welfare organization that has actively given back to the community by helping more than 100 senior, low-income, veteran, disabled, disadvantaged and in-need responsible pet owners in the past 18 months.

Since its inception in mid-2017 it has awarded $75,000 in financial assistance to those needing it. Max’s Helping Paws is a financial lifeline for those desperate to save their dogs and cats from unexpected circumstance.

“We cannot express how much we appreciate all those that chipped in and came together to help him and us,” said Heather about Trigger’s last-minute reprieve. “I am so grateful for all the help we received. There was a point where I really felt we may have to say goodbye to Trigger. When I count my blessings at night, Max’s is at the top of the list.”

Today, Trigger is continuing a smooth and steady recovery. His gastro-intestinal complications have almost completely resolved and his skin improved just in a few days of medication. Trigger is also back to climbing up on his owners bed to snuggle with his best friend, the family’s 8-month-old son Wesley and even getting back into the habit of begging for a ride in the car when he hears anyone grab the car keys.”

But other dogs and cats may not be so lucky, their owners are constantly faced with decisions that no pet owner wants to face.

“These are my babies, I don’t have kids. I think about their own happiness before my own. I’d go homeless before I’d get rid of her,” said one, Sarah. “We wouldn’t amputate his arm — he’s so young. I considered putting him up for adoption,” said another.

“To see pets suffer, or to see pet owners consider euthanasia or surrender because of financial circumstance is heartbreaking,” said Dyana Klein, executive director and co-founder of Max’s Helping Paws Foundation with her husband, a veterinary internist. “With your help, we can keep families together and keep giving deserving Monterey County pets an incredible gift.”

This year, Max’s is also part of Monterey County Gives fundraising campaign.

For every dollar given to Max’s Helping Paws through MC Gives!, a prorated match is applied to the first $75,000 the organization raises during the MC Gives! campaign, which runs through Dec. 31. And every dollar counts:

>$100 can provide medications for a pet in need.

>$300 can pay for critical blood/lab work.

>$500 can pay for biopsies and diagnostics to determine if a pet has a chance.

>$1,000 can provide initial treatment of chronic illnesses, including diabetes, Cushing’s, Addison’s, asthma and some cancers.

>$2,000 can provide a life-saving amputation or surgery.

A generous donation to Max’s through MC Gives! allows Max’s to continue to help families from having to make difficult decisions and save their pets from an awful fate.

To donate, go to the MC Gives! website at www.montereycountygives.com/PAWS. To be accepted as part of Monterey County Gives!, all checks from donors must be made payable to CFMC/MCGives!, and include instructions that it is a donation for Max’s Helping Paws Foundation, either in the memo line or on a separate piece of paper.

About Max’s Helping Paws Foundation

Maximillian was co-founder Dyana Klein’s 14-year old Miniature Pinscher, who passed away on May 27, 2016, from a rare kidney cancer. While grieving the loss, she and her husband found comfort in knowing they did everything medically possible to try to save Max’s life, though ultimately the war was lost. What they realized was just how important it was to know that no stone was left unturned, and they imagined the guilt and heartbreak for those who might have to allow their pets to suffer, or may need to euthanize or surrender them because of financial circumstances. Wanting to do something meaningful, and honor Max’s memory in a way that would help them heal while helping others, Max’s Helping Paws was born. Max’s Helping Paws provides a financial lifeline for responsible Monterey County pet owners with a pet in a health crisis.ll

Indie Rapper Souleye Delivers Treatment for your Mind and Spirit

With New Single, “Hip Hop Medicine” Feat. Dustin Tavella, Out May 5th!

Los Angeles, CA, May 01, 2017 – Conscious hip-hop artist, Souleye drops his brand new single “Hip Hop Medicine” featuring Dustin Tavella on May 5, 2017. This is the third single off his upcoming album, Wild Man expected for release in June 2017.

Infused with contemporary hip-hop soundscapes and bass heavy rhythms, producer Crush Effect seamlessly blends Souleye’s well-crafted original rhymes with his velvet-like vocals over a sonically searing beat in the new single. Souleye lyrically unloads a multi-layered storytelling consciousness that awakens the minds of humanity with great encouragement. His stream of consciousness style is both conversational and thought provoking.

Pop and R&B artist Dustin Tavella enters the track with his infectious hook continuously encouraging ‘don’t you stop it.” “Hip-Hop Medicine” is Souleye’s musical remedy to strengthen listeners’ passion and support, liberating them from their perceived limitations.

Souleye’s previous single “Snow Angel” featured his wife Alanis Morissette, and received tremendous support from their fan base and media outlets nationwide. “Snow Angel” was also reviewed by Fuse TV, Just Jared, Above Average Hip Hop and more. The Fresh Committee noted “Souleye’s lyrical ability and uncanny flow is felt immediately after Alanis finishes belting the powerful hook. The song’s electronic vibe provides the perfect playground for Souleye to showcase his diverse musical abilities over ethereal electronic glitches.”

With the perfect mix of hard hitting basslines and Souleye’s distinct lyrical flow, “Hip Hop Medicine” is a natural and fiery single to build on his fans’ anticipation for the forthcoming, Wild Man.

Childhood Stress is Rising, Eating Recovery Center Offers Insight to Help Prevent Eating Disorders

Center cites the connection between rising anxiety and stress-initiated mental illnesses as likely factor driving increased child and adolescent treatment inquiries

Denver, Colo, January 29, 2013 – Stress among children and adolescents is on the rise, and mental health professionals are seeing the impact as more families seek treatment for their children and adolescents to address stress-initiated behavioral illnesses such as eating disorders. At Eating Recovery Center, an international center providing comprehensive treatment for eating disorders, more than 20 percent of the Center’s total inquiries for treatment in 2012 were for children or adolescents ages 17 and under, of which 35 percent related to boys and girls ages 10 to 14.

Children today are growing up in what experts say is a more stressful environment than ever before.

“As an outcome of globalization and the information age, children and adolescents are more aware of their surroundings than they ever have been,” said Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, FAED, CEDS, chief medical officer and medical director of child and adolescent services at Eating Recovery Center. “This access and exposure can pose serious challenges as children and teens are inundated with fear-inducing global news and anxiety-causing social media interactions.”

Studies confirm this increase in stress among children and adolescents. Forty-five percent of teens (ages 13-17) say they were more worried in 2009 than they had been the previous year, according to a 2009 report from the American Psychological Association (APA). The study also found that 27 percent of tweens (ages 8-12) and 39 percent of teens reported eating too much or too little due to stress. However, only 28 percent of parents thought their teen’s stress had increased and a mere 8 percent reported being aware of their child’s eating issues.

Due to the connection between anxiety and stress-initiated mental illnesses like eating disorders, Eating Recovery Center encourages parents to take proactive steps to understand the impact of stress on their children, identify events and situations that may induce stress and recognize patterns of thinking and behavior that may indicate anxiety:

1. Childhood stress generally fits into one of four categories: personal, interpersonal, interfamilial and global (a stress reaction to national or world news).

2. Children of all ages are vulnerable to the effects of stress. Although they may internalize stress differently, children at different ages – from toddlers to teenagers – can all suffer from anxiety.

3. There is no universal response to stress. Children at different developmental stages and under different life circumstances will respond to stress differently.

4. The burden of stress is cumulative. Just like adults, children and adolescents can only “take so much,” and multiple stressors can become increasingly difficult for a young person to manage.

5. Even positive change can be stressful. For children and adolescents, change can be difficult, even perceived positive changes such as starting at a new school or joining a new sports team.

To help parents minimize stress in their children, Eating Recovery Center recommends following these four guidelines:

1. Be aware of your own stress as a parent and recognize how your words and actions can directly or indirectly affect your child.

2. Make yourself available to discuss their perceptions of stressful situations.

3. Talk to your children if you feel that something is causing them anxiety; do not wait for them to vocalize their feelings to you.

4. Provide age-appropriate information regarding their questions or concerns.

“While everyone feels stress at some time or another, individuals with a genetic or temperamental predisposition toward behavioral disorders will often adopt unhealthy coping mechanisms as a tool to manage their anxiety,” said Dr. Bermudez. “Because disordered eating behaviors such as restricting calories and purging actually release chemicals that minimize anxiety, many children and adolescents use these behaviors to experience relief due to their inability to identify feelings, articulate causes of stress and manage their anxiety appropriately.”

Eating Recovery Center encourages parents whose children have begun exhibiting troubling eating behaviors or body image issues as a potential outcome of stress to seek help from a qualified professional. Early intervention maximizes the likelihood of lasting recovery. For more information about eating disorders treatment resources, visit EatingRecoveryCenter.com.

Effectively Kill Toenail Fungus Safely at Beauchamp Foot and Nail Laser Clinic

Millions of people suffer from an embarrassing toenail fungus problem called onychomycosis which can be difficult to get rid of. At Beauchamp Foot and Nail Laser Clinic, hundreds of patients have been successfully treated with a revolutionary new toenail fungus laser treatment

Knightsbridge, London, March 31, 2012 (Straight Line PR) — Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic is pleased to announce the treatment of patients with a revolutionary toenail fungus laser treatment. Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic has been using the laser for the past three years. It has been successful in the treatment of toenail fungus with proven clinical results and no side effects.

“It has been a pleasure working with so many patients and offering a treatment with no side effects,” says Fiona Patterson of Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic. “Patients typically try several medications without success. By offering the new laser treatment, patients no longer have to deal with traditional methods and can be successfully treated with a non-invasive drug-free option.”

Research shows that the laser technology, which vaporizes fungal spores embedded in the nail bed, has a 70% or more success rate.

“For years, I have been embarrassed by my unsightly cracked and yellowing toenails… I tried every cream on the market but nothing worked… and then I read about the laser at Beauchamp Foot Care,” said James West, a patient of Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic ( http://www.beauchampfootcare.com/ ). “After plucking up the courage to make an appointment, it’s one of the best things I have ever done. A few months after a painless and professional treatment, even my ‘foot phobic’ wife has said my tootsies actually look rather nice. Next summer I’ll be wearing a pair of flip flops and leaving the trainers behind!”

The procedure is non-invasive and requires no anesthesia or recovery time. During the toenail fungus laser treatment ( http://www.beauchampfootcare.com/treatment ), a specially-designed laser beam is directed across the nail. The laser penetrates the nail bed, targeting the fungi responsible for the infection, while leaving the nail and surrounding healthy tissue intact. The procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes and can be done comfortably in the privacy of a doctor’s office with little or no discomfort. Results show that in most cases, fungal nails are completely cleared.

“Even my doctor was amazed at the improvement in my toenails,” says, S.R. a patient of Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic. “Laser was my last resort after living with toenail fungus for years.”

Overcoming the Pain of OxyContin Addiction in Ontario

Many individuals from Ontario choose the Narconon program. Narconon offers addicts and their loved one’s comprehensive information about OxyContin addiction as well as details on their rehabilitation program for people in the Toronto, Ontario area.

Toronto, ON, March 07, 2011 — Active, healthy people sometimes fall victim to accidents and illnesses that result in pain. Most of the time, these conditions are temporary. Sadly, however, the treatment can end up being worse than the illness, and addiction occurs. OxyContin is a popular pain medication in Ontario often prescribed by doctors and also a readily available street drug. What may begin as a method of pain relief often becomes the pain of OxyContin addiction.

Unlike alcohol or cocaine, OxyContin is not something people usually encounter at a party. Rather, it is a drug prescribed by physicians for relief of pain. OxyContin, in reality, causes just as much pain as it relieves. Those same healthy, active people become trapped in a world of addiction that causes their lives to begin spiraling downward. This video provides a brief glimpse into the sudden changes that occur with OxyContin addiction. ( http://www.oxycontinaddict.org ) The pain of addiction continues far longer than pain from accident or illness.

OxyContin causes a euphoric reaction ( http://addiction.narcononrehab.com/oxycontin-addiction-stories/my-painful-oxycontin-trip-part-2 ) in people by blocking pain receptors and affecting the central nervous system. It is this reaction that causes addiction. However, a tolerance is built up, so people need increasing amounts of the drug in order to achieve the same results. This is one of the first signs of possible addiction. Another indication is that even after the physical pain is gone, the person will still seek out OxyContin. If they cannot get it from a doctor, they will get it elsewhere. Like other addictions, it causes people to do whatever possible to obtain the drug up to and including, lying and stealing.

OxyContin, sometimes called Oxy is highly addictive and changes a person not only mentally, but physically and spiritually. Since this is the case, a person who has become addicted to OxyContin must be treated physically, mentally and spiritually. This kind of comprehensive treatment is offered by Narconon. The life of an addict is never truly a happy one. All thoughts and actions of the addict are geared toward obtaining more OxyContin. Narconon can help addicts rebuild their lives and leave the pain of addiction behind.

Many individuals from Ontario choose the Narconon program. Narconon offers addicts and their loved one’s comprehensive information about OxyContin addiction ( http://vimeo.com/narconon/oxycontin-addiction ) as well as details on their rehabilitation program for people in the Toronto, Ontario area. There is help and hope available. The pain and suffering inflicted by OxyContin can be left behind to allow addicts to learn to live healthy lives without the use of harmful drugs. Please call 1-877-782-7409 for more information about the Narconon drug rehab program.
