Fulham Names Chris Veira to Head Distribution Sales and Harold Thompson to Head North American OEM Sales

Staffing changes come after Fulham achieves record revenue in 2018.

Hawthorne, CA, USA — Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, today announced that Chris Veira has been promoted from Southwest Distribution Manager to Director of Sales, North American Distribution. Harold Thompson, who has been serving as Northeast OEM Manager, also has been promoted to Director of Sales, North American OEM.

The changes come following the retirement of Richard White, Vice President, U.S. Distribution Channel, and the departure of Mike Bauer, VP of Global Sales, who left for a job outside of the lighting industry. Thanks largely to a commitment to continued innovation in LED lighting, Fulham has just completed 2018 with record company revenue despite market pressures such as increased tariffs and other costs.

During his 13 year career at Fulham, White was responsible for developing business relationships with the top 10 North American electrical and industrial distributors. He also was instrumental in driving Fulham’s e-commerce initiative, including overseeing the company’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Industry Data Exchange Association (IDEA) initiatives. During White’s tenure both the annual sales volume through distribution and the number of distributors associated with Fulham grew significantly.

Bauer, who was with the company for nearly five years, contributed to Fulham’s growth in the LED and emergency lighting markets, as well as structuring the global sales organization to maximize these types of product sales opportunities. Bauer, who is based in North Carolina, departed in early January for a role closer to his home.

“During my tenture at Fulham, developing bench strength in all of our departments has been a top priority for me,” said Bob Howard-Anderson, CEO of Fulham. “While Mike and Richard will be missed, we are confident that Harold and Chris will continue to drive our business. It’s never easy to see good people depart, but they left on the high note of record revenue.”

Veira has been with Fulham since 2015, helping build and support the southwestern distribution channel. In his new role he will assume responsibility for overseeing all U.S. sales distribution, including providing sales support and bringing on new distributors.

Thompson has been with Fulham since 2006, helping to expand and service the company’s OEM customers throughout the Northeast. In his new role he will assume responsibility for overseeing all North American OEM sales, including major accounts.

Howard-Anderson is acting as the interim head of Global Sales while a new leader is being recruited. Fulham was founded in 1994 so 2019 marks its 25th year in business. The company now employs more than 500 people worldwide in North America, China, India and Europe.

Fulham To Show New DirectAC LED Engines at Strategies in Light

New DirectAC Designed with Integrated Circuitry to Create a Low-Flicker, Low-Profile Lighting Component for Surface Mounted Luminaires.

Anaheim, CA, USA — Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, will be demonstrating its new DirectAC LED Engines at the Strategies in Light conference being held here this week. The new AC direct drive unit removes the need for a driver, resulting in a cost-efficient, reliable lighting solution that is ideal for wall sconces and ceiling luminaires.

Eliminating the need for a separate LED driver gives the DirectAC LED Engines an extremely low profile that simplifies installation. The units come in a full range of wattages, from 10W to 34W, making them ideal substitutes for fluorescent luminaires. They also feature extremely low flicker to achieve CEC Title 24 requirements, and offer smooth TRIAC/ELV dimming down to 10 percent.

“We are seeing increasing demand for versatile LED luminaires that can serve as fluorescent alternatives and retrofits,” said Edwin Reyes, Product Director, LED Light Sources at Fulham. “Our new DirectAC LED Engines are designed as high-performance, low-energy units that are easy to install and offer a longer lifespan than fluorescents with a fraction of the power consumption. They are an ideal solid-state lighting alternative to fluorescent lighting.”

In addition, the DirectAC LED Engines are available in a variety of color temperatures with a CRI up to 90. The units feature a high voltage barrier lens that meets the UL 5VA flame-rating, which allow them to be used with plastic diffusers in open or fully enclosed luminaires. In addition, they can be installed in both dry and damp locations.

The DirectAC units are available in three configurations: the engine only, the engine with lens, and the engine with lens and mounting plate. All units are UL and select models are ENERGY STAR® Luminaire 2.0 listed so they qualify for most rebate programs.

The DirectAC LED Engines are available from Fulham locations worldwide. For more information, visit http://www.fulham.com.

Fulham VP Outlines Need for Interoperability Standards for Smart Lighting at Upcoming Strategies in Light Conference

Russ Sharer, Fulham’s VP of Global Marketing, to Review the State of Industry Standards for Lighting Control Networks and Next Generation of Smart Lighting Products.

Anaheim, CA, USA — At the upcoming Strategies in Light conference to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center, Russ Sharer, Vice President of Global Marketing for Fulham Co., Inc., supplier of lighting and LED components, will be speaking to lighting industry professionals and influencers about the need for true interoperability standards as the lighting market embraces smart lighting. Sharer’s presentation entitled “Standards are Meaningless (without Interoperability)” is scheduled for Thursday, March 2.

As Sharer notes, the smart lighting industry lags far behind other industries when it comes to commonly accepted communications standards to for on/off, dimming, color tuning, remote monitoring, task tuning, remote and wireless controls, system alerts, and energy usage reporting. In other industries, accepted, open standards have had a dramatic positive effect on market growth. Consider, for example, the impact of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, both well-documented and well-understood standards that assure product compatibility and interoperability. Lighting control standards, such as ZigBee, DALI (the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface), and Thread are becoming more commonplace but don’t guarantee end users can buy lighting components from multiple vendors and operate them with a common control system. As a result, interoperability is only assured if you standardize on a single vendor.

“LED systems can be controlled in any number of ways, but there is no standardized means of mixing vendors,” Sharer said. “End users want to create multivendor lighting systems that use a common language, but as yet there are no established standards that guarantee compatibility for lighting control.”

The need for interoperable lighting control systems is becoming more urgent with the growing adoption of related applications and standards. For example, the Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling IP-based control of networked devices and components. In turn, IoT is driving demand for centralized network control of devices, including lighting, for applications such as automated building management. Wireless networking standards such as 802.11ac are being adopted for in-home systems management, including home security, climate control, and remote lighting control. Power over Ethernet (PoE) also is becoming popular for new construction and applications such as retail lighting, where lighting is frequently moved. All of these standards are well defined so they can be incorporated into a central control system.

“As smart lighting continues to evolve, interoperability of controls has become more important,” said Sharer. “The lighting industry is going to see more demand for lighting standards-compliance, interoperability testing, and certification procedures for both new and retrofit products. And customers are going to shop for standards-certified products that are guaranteed to be compatible with new smart lighting platforms. Those lighting vendors that will prosper in the future are the ones that embrace standards and promote product interoperability.”

Fulham Products Receive 100% Compliance and Excellence for Inclusion in IDEA’s Industry Data Warehouse

Fulham Product SKUs Now Listed in the IDW for Lighting Distributors.

Hawthorne, CA, USA — Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial, industrial, and specialty applications, today announced that its company’s product SKUs have achieved 100 percent compliance and programmatic excellence from the Industry Data Exchange Association (IDEA). The approved product SKUs will be listed in the Industry Data Warehouse (IDW) database to make it easier for distributors to find details about Fulham lighting products and pricing.

“The IDW provides a standardized format for electrical and specialty distributors to search for products that meet their traditional and solid-state lighting needs,” said Richard White, VP of Distribution Sales for Fulham. “Inclusion in IDW’s database ensures greater product depth and breadth with distributors and is designed to keep them abreast of specification and pricing changes for Fulham components in real time. IDW is a great resource to help us optimize and serve the US electrical distribution channel.”

Lighting and electrical distributors are important partners to Fulham and help serve the North American market. The use of IDW shortens the time between a new product’s launch and its accurate information appearing in distribution partner systems. As product lifecycles accelerate, an automated tool is needed to update hundreds of distributors as quickly as overnight.

Manufacturers can share accurate product and pricing data with distributors and wholesalers using the IDW as a secure, centralized database platform, and North American electrical industry companies rely on the IDW system for up-to-date, accurate product information. IDEA, which maintains the IDW, provides standardized templates for data listings and provides a central repository for product, pricing, packaging, and related information, eliminating the need for distributors and wholesalers to maintain and synchronize their own databases.

“We are delighted to add Fulham’s name to our list of vendors who have received Compliance and Excellence ratings in the IDW database,” said Paul Molitor, President and CEO for IDEA. “For the IDW to remain valuable it’s important to have as many manufacturers’ SKUs listed as possible and Fulham’s products expand our list of lighting components available to distributors and wholesalers.”
