Learning House Announces Fourth Annual Connect Conference

Connect Conference Brings Educators Together to Discuss Trends, Tactics and Technologies to Take Online Degree Programs to the Next Level

Louisville, KY, June 06, 2012 – The Learning House, Inc. announced today that it will host its fourth annual Connect conference on July 10 and 11, 2012, in Louisville, Ky. Learning House is an online education solutions partner that helps colleges and universities develop and grow high-quality online degree programs and courses. More than 200 professionals from every segment of higher learning—including presidents, deans, faculty members, marketing staff and more—will attend to discuss topics ranging from how to start an online program to online student recruitment and retention.

“Open collaboration and shared ideas are essential to a successful classroom environment,” said David T. Richardson, President and CEO of Learning House. “At Learning House, we intend our Connect conference to be just that: a space where leading practitioners from colleges and universities can come together to look to the future of online education and share best practices. Our breakout sessions offer both niche technical training and big picture program planning. It’s a win–win for attending professionals and their organization.”

Last year’s conference celebrated Learning House’s 10-year anniversary and, like the previous two years, was primarily invite-only. Due to the success and positive feedback of previous Connect conferences, Learning House is taking this year’s conference to a new level. This year, Learning House offers open registration for higher education professionals interested in learning more about how to create, manage and grow online programs. The conference’s theme, Full Speed Ahead, highlights the addition of well-known, forward-thinking experts in the education field. Keynote speakers include Dr. Kenneth C. Green, founding director of the Campus Computing Project, Jonathan Grayer, CEO of Weld North, LLC and former chairman and CEO of Kaplan, Inc., and Doug Lederman, editor and founder of Inside Higher Ed. The keynote sessions include “Seven Challenges for Succeeding Online,” “Fireside Chat” and “Technology-Driven Disruption: Separating the News From the Noise,” respectively.

Other highly anticipated sessions include “How to Build a High-Quality Online Course,” led by Dr. Bruce Gillies and Cindy Grether of California Lutheran University; “Using Social Media as a Recruitment Strategy,” presented by Patrick Dezort from Brescia University, Tim Hooper of Campbellsville University and Sara Smith of Highland Community College; and “State Authorization and Joint Ventures,” by Washington, D.C., attorney Michael Goldstein.

“A standout component of the Connect conference is the variety of tracks we offer participants,” said Dr. David Clinefelter, Learning House’s Chief Academic Officer. “Whether you make high-level decisions or tweet with potential students, we have a session designed specifically for you. Connect also enables participants to meet industry experts and their colleagues from colleges and universities across the nation, creating lasting professional and personal connections.”

Towson University Partners With Learning House to Offer Professional Certification Classes Online

Learning House fulfills university’s goals of creating its own faculty-developed online courses and addressing Maryland’s workforce needs

Louisville, KY, May 15, 2012 – The Learning House, Inc., an online education solutions partner that helps colleges and universities develop and grow high-quality online degree programs and courses, announced today that Towson University’s Center for Professional Studies (CPS) has selected Learning House to help expand its online continuing education course offerings. CPS offers programs that focus on meeting identified workforce shortages for the region and address skill gaps and career advancement needs.

Towson University has a robust set of existing continuing education programs, but CPS identified a need to develop self-paced, industry-driven, professional certification programs that leverage the expertise of the University’s faculty.

“We wanted to develop our own courses and truly control the content, deployment and quality of the curriculum,” said Jeff Beeson, Director of the Center for Professional Studies at Towson University. “We selected Learning House because they represented what we needed—a partner that could help us turn classroom curriculum into dynamic online courses that engage non-campus-based learners. Their dedicated team approach is a plus because we feel very supported. Additionally, the assurance that Learning House can help with all our online education needs from course design and development to marketing, as well as provide IT and tech support is a true value add.”

Together, Learning House and CPS will create workforce and professional certification courses online that align with Towson’s core academic mission of business, IT and the health professions. The first courses will include a project management professional (PMP) certification course, an A+/Net+ certification course and a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) course with a health information supplement. All of these courses will directly address workforce needs in Maryland.

“Developing online courses takes a deep understanding of both the subject matter and the technology. A big mistake institutions often make is simply taking existing curricula and posting it online using a simple learning management system. Towson University’s CPS team understands that reaching online learners takes something more, and we are excited to work with them to expand their professional certification courses,” said Dr. David Clinefelter, Chief Academic Officer at Learning House. “Having the involvement of faculty is critical to the way we develop online courses. We plan to work closely with the faculty at Towson University to ensure they have the support they want to build engaging courses and the professional development they need to help their students achieve success.”

Learning House collaborates with schools that have various levels of online education experience to achieve each institution’s unique goals and create a positive student experience. Learning House Announces Free Webinar to Help Colleges Develop Successful Online Summer Sessions

Instructional webinar will feature panelists from a variety of educational institutions and offer strategies and best practices to launch summer courses online

Louisville, KY, March 20, 2012 – The Learning House, Inc. (www.learninghouse.com), an online education solutions partner that helps colleges and universities develop and grow high-quality online degree programs and courses, today announced it is offering a free instructional webinar to help institutions learn best practices in building and launching online summer courses. The webinar, “Building a Successful Online Summer Session,” will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at noon EDT.

“Online summer courses not only allow students the flexibility to earn credits while still enjoying their summer, but the reduced costs and prospect of accelerated graduation can make these courses incredibly attractive, especially if they are difficult to get into during the school year,” said Dave Clinefelter, Chief Academic Officer at The Learning House, Inc. “By offering a summer session online, institutions not only keep students engaged, improving student retention rates, but students can take required courses they need for their degree or electives they are interested in without having to go to elsewhere and transfer credits.”

The webinar will feature panelists Sean Butcher, Director of Online Programs at Shorter University; Peter Gochis, Associate Academic Dean at Missouri Valley College; and Denise Peters, Director of eLearning at Highland Community College, who will share their experiences developing online summer sessions, as well as best practices and lessons learned. The presentation will discuss the benefits of making summer courses available online and offer strategic insights into what colleges and universities need to do to launch programs, from course selection and curriculum development to marketing.

During the webinar, participants will:

* Learn how to create a timeline and set due dates to get online summer sessions off the ground on schedule

* Discover how to choose the right courses to offer online

* Discuss ways to establish policies on who can take online courses, what incentives to offer faculty, etc.

* Identify what resources are needed to best support faculty and students

* Explore marketing best practices to promote online summer sessions and drive enrollments

The webinar is designed to provide actionable information for academic affairs and continuing education professionals, provosts, chancellors, deans and others who are interested in building successful online summer courses.
