Chef Kevin Binkley: Back to the Kitchen

Chef Binkley has now decided to go back to basics (and get back to the kitchen) by bringing an entirely new concept to the Phoenix Valley in October 2016.

Phoenix, AZ, USA — “I didn’t get into this business because I love business,” says Binkley, who’s been a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Best Chef Southwest award for five straight years. “I want to cook food, and the more locations we have, the less I get to do that, and that’s not OK.”

A trained chef that has worked at 2 of the top 13 restaurants in the United States and has been nominated by the James Beard Foundation 5 years running – has gone from owning one award-winning restaurant in Arizona in 2004 to owning four restaurants by 2013. Chef Binkley has now decided to go back to basics (and get back to the kitchen) by bringing an entirely new concept to the Phoenix Valley in October 2016. Located in his previous restaurant Bink’s Midtown – the restaurant is a converted house built in 1928. The dining experience will take guests through different sections of the house – anywhere from the patio, communal dining at the bar, or your own table in the main dining room. The walls will be knocked down between dining room and kitchen and the chefs’ will be delivering the courses and explaining the dishes along the way to guests and asking for instant feedback.

Chef Binkley is known for pushing the boundaries of gastronomic innovation and highlighting the bounty of local, artisanal and house-made ingredients. The restaurant will only be open 4 days a week, Thursdays and Sundays will have one seating and Fridays/Saturdays will have 2 seating’s. An estimated 20 people per seating will be available and staff will be cut down to the minimum. Only one tasting menu will be available with limited substitutions available.

Not only is this story one for a chef re-inventing himself to push more culinary boundaries – but changing the game in Phoenix with an entirely new concept.

Cooktorial, a recipes application, available for iPhone and iPod Touch

Jun 08 2011 /RTPR/ – Athens, Greece – WEBST Consulting S.A., a mobile application developer, proudly announces the launch of its new project, «Cooktorial», available for iPhone and iPod Touch. Cooktorial is a recipes application, mainly addressed to the novice cook, although it can be of value to the more skilled cook as well, given that its main idea is to suggest what can be cooked based solely on the ingredients already available at home.

In fact, the main attribute setting Cooktorial apart from the rest of the cooking applications available on App Store is that, using Cooktorial, one can browse recipes which can be cooked using ingredients they already have, instead of finding a recipe which will, almost certainly, require a visit to the super-market. Cooktorial implements an easy-to-use interface, a database of over 1.000 recipes, images and thorough description of each recipe, as well as providing the user with the option of filtering the results by preparation time, cuisine type and difficulty level.

Furthermore, with a single tap the user can generate a list with the most commonly found ingredients, which can be easily edited and will be automatically stored for future use.

Last but not least, using Cooktorial does not require an internet connection, allowing thus the user to browse recipes without the use of a 3G or a Wi-Fi network. Cooktorial is a Free application available on Apple’s App Store. Users may enhance it by purchasing any of the two available In Apps, allowing them to perform unlimited number of searches within the app and to remove the Ads.

GET COLOUR HELP WHEN PURCHASING YOUR NEW RANGE COOKER WITH BRITANNIA LIVING

There are so many options available when purchasing a new range cooker it can be difficult to decide which one would suit you best.

The choice of colour is extremely important to complete the whole look and decor of the home, whether it is an ultra-modern and contemporary vibe you are going for, or a more homely traditional feel.

Britannia Living can help colour guide you when buying the range cooker, by revealing what the top favourites and popular picks were in 2010.

Even though stainless steel ranked the highest in the colour chart, it was closely followed by Black range cookers . Britannia Living also received orders for a variety of colours including apple green, pink and Windsor blue.

Consumers who wanted more of a traditional style kitchen opted for stainless steel, whereas those who preferred a classic look were torn between choosing cream and matt black.

The colour depends greatly on personal preference and whether you want your range cooker to blend into the rest of the kitchen theme and colour palette or stand out.

If you have a cream painted kitchen, you could have one of Britannia Living’s Cream range cookers installed, so that it blends in beautifully with the kitchen cabinets; or alternatively you could have the black, so that the cooker stands out and provides a feature point.

Internet users to decide who gets $14,000 kitchen makeover

“America’s Ugliest Kitchen Contest”, sponsored by Mei Kitchens, was launched to renovate the “ugliest” homes as defined by web users in the wake of a sagging economy. A contest, which has endured accusations of cheating, personal attacks on the “ugliness” factor of individual kitchens, and a wave of recruiting in order to generate more votes, is now inching closer to the finale. With less than 25 more entries needed to close the contest, time is running out to be crowned the winner.

The contest has given exposure to all types of kitchens, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some of the kitchens appear smaller than a mop closet, while others appear decayed and decrepit, according to web users leaving comments at www.meikitchens.com/uglykitchen/. The owner of one of the kitchens describes it as wheel-chair challenged. A husband with a brain tumor can longer upgrade the kitchen from its shoddy state, she decries in the message forum.

“The beauty of this contest is that the definition of ‘ugly’ is in the eye of the beholder,” said Sean Lin, founder of Mei Kitchens, an online kitchen and bathroom cabinetry store. Some may consider a kitchen that is stuck in the orange and brown overtones of the 1970s and decorated with boxy and bulky countertops and cabinets as ugly. While others may argue that a kitchen that appears ravaged by a hurricane with layers of erosion, dirt, and slime is the ultimate indicator of ugliness. “Regardless of individual take on ugliness, because of the diversity of opinion, it leaves the contest wide open,” says Lin. “A new kitchen can appear on the site tomorrow that breaks away from the pack with its own distinct flavor of ugly features.” Hence, he adds, there is no clear winners at this point and the tide can shift dramatically.

The top contestants have pointed to social media networking sites as the source of their success. In their quest to solicit new votes, they swarmed big titans, including Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. Their motivation is to expand their reach and generate some buzz about why their kitchens are in dire need of an overhaul.

The contest is designed to bring relief to those homeowners who are in need of a kitchen renovation. The Grand Prize winner will receive up to $14,000 in products and allowance from meikitchens.com. This includes up to $7,000 in Mei Kitchens cabinets, knobs/pulls, sink and faucets, up to $2,000 in cabinet assembly and installation, up to $3,000 in countertop materials, fabrication, and installation, up to $1,000 in miscellaneous plumbing and electrical supplies, and up to $1,000 in professional, customized kitchen design. Interested parties are encouraged to enter the contest at www.meikitchens.com/uglykitchen.

Mei Kitchens is a global online retailer which offers kitchen and bathroom cabinets, countertops, and other accessories. For more information, visit www.meikitchens.com.
