How to Get AVCHD MTS/M2TS, MOD Files off HD Camcorder to Mac, iMovie, FCP
Most digital camcorders record videos in mts, m2ts, mod, tod formats, for example, Camorder stores video in MTS, M2TS format: Sony HDR-CX150, HDR-CX500V, HDR-SR7, HDR-SR100, HDR-XR150, Panasonic HDC-SD700, HDC-SD100, HDC-HS700, HDC-TM700, Canon VIXIA HF R100, VIXIA HF M300, VIXIA HF100, VIXIA HF200, etc; MOD format: Canon FS100, Canon FS200, Canon FS300, Panasonic SDR-S100, SDR-S150, SDR-H20, JVC GZ-MG37, GZ-MG100, GZ-MG630, etc; TOD format: JVC GZ-HD3, GZ-HD5, GZ-HD6, GZ-HD30, GZ-HD40.

However, to get these camcorder videos off camcorder to Mac is not easy for some green hands who own HD camcorders.
Tutorial and steps to get Video off Camcorder to Mac, iMovie as follows:
Step1: Turn on your camcorder and make sure your camcorder is set to the right mode to import videos or photos.
Step2: Connect camcorder to Mac with USB cable(a 6 pin or 4 pin cable), and make sure you insert cable to Mac and camcorder in the correct port.
Step3: Your Mac will automatically launch iMovie, So you can review your video or select “Import All”, and make sure your camcorder is set to “Automatic”. If DVD Player automatically open, quit DVD Player first.
Step4: If you select “Manual”, you can import some clips to iMovie.
Step5: If you import from tape-based camcorder such as DV or HDV, iMovie will automatically revise tape and import all. iMovie can automatically create thumbnail video after complete importing.
Tips: 1. iMovie can automatically detect your camcorder when you have a FireWire camcorder connected. If you see the message no camera or camcorder attached, you need to check your camera is on and you plugged in the cable in the correct way, and then make sure your camcorder is set to VCR, VTR, or Play mode. 2. You can select the right video format as your needs. If you import video from your camcorder, you can select DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i, and HDV 720i. If you record video from your iSight, select iSight. If you copy MPEG-4 files from your PDA or phone, select MPEG-4.
