Rosendin Electric Receives 2015 Safety Excellence Award from National Electrical Contractors Association

NECA Awards Rosendin Electric for Its Exemplary Safety Performance.

San Jose, CA, USA (June 14, 2015) — Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and an employee-owned company, has received the 2015 Safety Excellence Award, one of the highest honors for workplace safety, from the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

Every year, NECA recognizes member companies for their outstanding safety performance during the previous calendar year and rewards those companies that achieve the highest safety score. The cumulative score is based on points for the lowest injury and illness rates and the insurance industry’s Experience Modification Rate (EMR).

“On behalf of NECA, I would like to commend Rosendin Electric, Inc., for achieving the 2015 Safety Excellence award. Your commitment to safety raises your company’s standards…we congratulate you on this achievement. This award reflects your dedication to following the industry’s highest safety standards,” noted John M. Grau, Chief Executive Officer of NECA.

As part of its expanding safety program, Rosendin Electric recently implemented the use of smart devices to perform real-time safety audits. The mobile app is used to identify potential problem areas before there is an incident. Results are sent to the Safety Team for review, to be monitored and addressed, as necessary, during site visits. The same data is shared with field supervision and project management for safety monitoring and administration. The company has also added a toll-free number that employees can call to share their safety concerns. Calls can be anonymous or callers can leave a name and number for callback.

As part of their commitment to continuously improve, Rosendin Electric has also begun training its operations management team to receive Safety Trained Supervisor for Construction (STS-C) certification through the America Society of Safety Engineers. The company’s goal is to have all Project Managers and Division Managers STS-C certified.

“Safety is a part of Rosendin Electric’s DNA and we are delighted to receive this acknowledgement from NECA for our commitment,” said Marty Rouse, CSP, CHST, STS-C, Vice President of Safety at Rosendin Electric. “We want to thank NECA for their dedication to promoting workplace safety and for recognizing our safety culture with this prestigious industry award. By working with NECA to build safety best practices, Rosendin Electric is continuously improving our safety culture with new protocols and procedures.”

Rosendin Electric Launches New Website To Profile Breadth of Capabilities and Promote Online Collaboration

Rosendin.com Gets a New Look with More Details on Specialty Divisions, Projects, Events, History, and a New Subcontractor Portal.

San Jose, CA, USA (February 23, 2015) — Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and an employee-owned company, today announced the launch of a new website to reflect the company’s diverse construction and engineering capabilities and activities, and the company has added a new portal for subcontractors to manage their information.

The new website provides an immediate snapshot of Rosendin Electric’s services, including Design-Build Engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and renewable energy. Rosendin Electric is a pioneer in Lean Construction best practices and has been an innovator in streamlining construction practices using mobile communications and networking technologies. The new website also provides a showcase for the company’s construction projects, including work in commercial construction, transportation, solar and wind power, and low-voltage wiring.

A new addition to Rosendin.com is a Subcontractor Portal that allows partner contractors to log in to access information about payment status, insurance certificates, W-9 status, and other documentation. Each subcontractor is assigned a secure account that they use to share documents, paperwork, and invoices for review and approval. The portal will become the primary means of communicating with contractors and Rosendin Electric executives predict that providing a self-service portal will save hours in administrative time and speed payment processing.

“We continue to incorporate online resources into our everyday operations,” said Sam Lamonica, CIO of Rosendin Electric. “The launch of this new website with the Subcontractor Portal marks the next step in promoting online partner collaboration. We expect to use the new website as a springboard to expand our online capabilities to continue to streamline workflow and business processes.”

Rosendin Electric is very involved with the community in every region where the company maintains an office, not only through its construction work, but also through community projects and goodwill activities. The new website will serve as a means to communicate with the communities they serve and profile projects that serve those communities.

The new website also shows Rosendin Electric’s international reach. The company now has 13 regional offices serving regions across the country, and the company has been responsible for projects in Israel, Sweden, and Guam. There also is a company timeline dating back to its founding in 1919, and a profile of Rosendin Electric’s commitment to teamwork, quality, service, and integrity.

“We are a very old company working on the cutting edge of electrical construction and this website more closely reflects who we are,” said Tom Sorley, Chairman and CEO of Rosendin Electric. “Rosendin Electric has always been dedicated to attracting the best talent available and building a business with national reach and positive local community impact. Our new online presence allows us to share more details about our industry and community involvement and more closely collaborate with our partners.”

To facilitate recruiting and community outreach, Rosendin Electric has added a list of current job openings and expanded its social media reach. The new website has been designed to be more easily accessible on mobile devices as well, since more of today’s users are browsing the web using smartphones and tablet computers.

Rosendin Electric’s Sam Lamonica Chosen as Finalist for 2012 Best CIO by Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and San Francisco Business Times

Lamonica Singled Out for Harnessing Mobile Technology for Construction Sites and Improving Procurement Processes.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (June 29, 2012) — Sam Lamonica, CIO of Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and a 100% employee-owned company, was named a finalist for the 2012 CIO Awards by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times. Sam was one of three finalists in the Private Company category.

The Bay Area Business Journals selected Sam because of his innovative work adapting mobile computing technology for construction and implementing new paperless supply tracking and procurement processes. Under his leadership, Rosendin Electric has been equipping field personnel with mobile technology such as smart phones and iPads and adding mobile construction solutions from vendors like Vela to provide workers remote wireless access to materials lists, blueprints, QA/QC and safety checklists, vendor data, and more. Sam also introduced a new paperless procurement system for handling orders, billing, and invoices that saved the company $80,000 in the first year. With the help of Sam’s technology initiatives, Rosendin Electric has seen a faster turnaround on construction projects, and financial savings for both the company and its clients.

In commenting on his nomination, Sam noted that the best advice he ever received was “about the importance of ‘MBWA’ (Management by Walking Away). You get out of your office, get out of your chair, get in front of your end users often and understand their needs. Be in front of them a lot. I practice that all the time, I teach it to my direct reports, and get great customer service.”

“Sam’s technological innovations have made a tremendous contribution to the ongoing success and growth of Rosendin Electric,” said Tom Sorley, the company’s CEO. “His expertise and collaborative management style make him a welcome member of our management team, and his contributions have had a real impact on our operational efficiency, our responsiveness to our partners and our clients. Sam’s positive approach continues to win the praises of his staff and peers, and we are pleased that he has received this recognition from the Business Journals as well.”

Phoenix Business Journal Ranks Rosendin Electric First Among Electrical Contractors for 2011

High-Profile Projects and State-of-the-Art Construction Techniques Put Rosendin Electric at Top of List for Second Year in a Row.

Tempe, AZ, USA – (May 30, 2012) — The Phoenix Business Journal has named Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and a 100% employee-owned company, the top electrical contractor for 2011 as ranked by gross sales. This marks the second year in a row that Rosendin Electric has been named the top electrical construction company by the Phoenix Business Journal. Rosendin Electric also ranked number two in 2009.

Based on an independent survey, the Phoenix Business Journal selected Rosendin Electric number one among the area contractors with $117 million in local sales for 2011, up $8 million from 2010 when Rosendin Electric took top honors with $109 million in annual regional sales. Even though Rosendin Electric has 30 percent fewer employees, the company outranked the second runner up by $24 million in revenue or more than 20 percent.

“Our reputation continues to grow, and our Arizona office has been instrumental in helping the company expand its business throughout the Southwest,” said Mike Greenawalt, Vice President of Southwest Operations for Rosendin Electric. “Our commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation, and our ability to complete work on time and within budget is what allows us to continue to outpace our competition. The fact that we have ranked at the top of the Phoenix Business Journal list of area contractors provides independent evidence of our ongoing success.”

According to Greenawalt, part of the success for the Tempe office is due to a number of high-profile projects, including wiring a new campus for a noted technology firm and construction work on the new Maricopa County Courthouse, which was completed in February 2012. The Rosendin Electric Tempe office has been setting new standards in electrical construction best practices, especially in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Fred Meeske, who was instrumental in bringing new computer modeling practices to the Maricopa County Courthouse project, was recently named to the newly created position of Corporate Director of Building Information Modeling (BIM) Services for Rosendin Electric with responsibility for training and setting new BIM standards for the entire company.

Rosendin Electric’s Participation in Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition Helps Train Next Generation of Project Managers

Rosendin Electric Expands Support for ASC Western Region Student Competition with Open Call to Train Student Teams from Any College.

SAN JOSE, CA (April 26, 2011) — Rosendin Electric, one of the nation’s largest private electrical contractors and a 100% employee-owned company, was back again this year with an extended program to support construction management students participating in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Western Region Student Competition held in Reno, Nevada. Rosendin Electric has committed to support the student teams by offering assistance to any school participating in the competition.

Every year, students from construction management schools across the country compete in the regional ASC Student Competitions to win trophies and monetary prizes. Each team of six students must complete a complex problem in various construction categories, including one in the electrical industry. Since the ASC added the electrical question to the Western Regional competition in 2008, Rosendin Electric has offered comprehensive training to students to bring practical experience and expertise to help them solve the problem.

Rosendin Electric is committed to expand and continually offer its support program to any college participating in the electrical problem. The field included 1,300 students from 64 schools throughout Regions 6 and 7, which covers the Rocky Mountains and western United States. This year, Rosendin Electric worked with student teams from seven schools, including Arizona State University, Auburn University, Boise State University, California Polytechnic State University, California State University at Chico, Purdue University, and Sacramento State University.

The problem posed for 2012 was the construction of a multi-level condominium in a high-density location in San Francisco. Rosendin Electric has an office in San Francisco and the company’s experts are familiar with the unique aspects of the city’s zoning and construction, so they were able to assist the ASC competitors using their special knowledge. More than 20 Rosendin Electric employees from engineering, estimating, safety, business development, operations, and human resources volunteered their time to help students prepare for the competition. A number of students received on-site training at Rosendin Electric’s San Jose headquarters and Rosendin Electric experts traveled to school locations to offer on-campus training as well.

“This annual competition continues to raise the bar for both students and contractors,” said Richard Wilder, Human Resources Manager for Rosendin Electric. “We love supporting the ASC because it gives us an opportunity to train students using our best practices, and perhaps meet budding project managers who could be working for Rosendin Electric in the near future. In fact, we hired a winner from last year’s student competition. The entire industry benefits from this collaborative competition.”

This year’s ASC Region 6 and 7 winners in the electrical category were Auburn University with first place, Purdue University taking second place, and California Polytechnic at San Luis Obispo taking third place.
