This summer Mods4cars has improved not just one, but two aspects of the kit: On one hand the wiring harness was redesigned with OEM quality connectors in order to make installation even easier, on the other hand the SmartTOP module itself received a design overhaul and comes in the exclusive, custom designed Mods4cars enclosure.

The plugs and sockets are all equipped with latching mechanisms in order to provide a safe and reliable link. “Installation of this kit merely requires opening an access panel in the trunk of the car and is completed in just a few minutes.” Sven Tornow continues.

Also the appearance of the product itself was improved by using the new, custom designed product enclosure for the SmartTOP module. The new enclosure is smaller and more ergonomically shaped, so it can be installed in tighter locations in the car. The main connector and USB port are now fully enclosed and protected. The conformally coated electronics board inside is protected from moisture.

Apart from the two signature features each SmartTOP module made by Mods4cars offers a host of bonus features: On cars with keyless entry option the top can be lowered or raised by touching the door handle without the need to retrieve the key. The windows can be controlled independently from the top by remote and a chirp signal can be programmed to sound briefly when locking or unlocking the car. An extended mode can be activated which allows starting or stopping the engine while the top is in motion. Also the entire product can be temporarily disabled while retaining all user configurable settings.

All features and functions are user programmable. Settings can be adjusted in the car using key combinations or by connecting a Windows or Mac computer to the USB port present on the module. The USB port also allows quick and easy firmware updates which are provided free of charge online.

The SmartTOP aftermarket add-on module for BMW 3-series (E46) convertibles allows opening and closing of the top while driving at slow speeds and with one-touch convenience. The top can also be controlled from the existing key fob remote. Automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars has now extended the functionality of the product to include automatic door locks while driving, remote controlled lighting (coming/leaving home) and park assist for cars without seat memory.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), May 30th, 2013 — The SmartTOP add-on convertible top module offered by Mods4cars for BMW 3-series (E46) allows drivers to open or close the top while moving at up to 40 km/h (~28mph). Thanks to the convenient one-touch operation a single touch of the console button is enough. Additionally the top can be raised or lowered, also fully automatically, from outside the car via the original key fob remote.

Giving owners even more extra convenience, the manufacturer has now added a few new functions into the module, all of which are user programmable. The module can be programmed to lock the doors while driving and automatically unlock them afterwards. This convenient anti-carjacking feature is standard on most cars nowadays. Another new feature is the ability to turn the front and rear lights on by remote to light up dark garages for example or to find the car in a dark parking lot. Lastly, a new park assist feature was included for card without seat memory. This feature automatically lowers the passenger mirror when shifting into reverse gear in order to avoid damage to the rims when parallel-parking.

Existing functionality was improved as well. Closing the top by remote is now also possible by pressing the lock button on the remote three times. “The new firmware makes operation from the remote more intuitive”, says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. Now the formula is simple: click three times on unlock to lower the top, click three times on lock to raise it.

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – January 25, 2013 — Effective immediately, the SmartTOP convertible top controller offered by Mods4cars for the new Mercedes-Benz SL R231 Roadster is available for purchase and promises added convenience for the upcoming convertible season. The add-on module makes it possible to open and close the convertible top while driving at slow speeds (up to 60 km/h / ~38mph). Thanks to the built-in full auto one-touch operation it is not necessary to hold down the console switch; a quick tap is enough.

The module also allows one-touch control of the top from the original factory remote key fob. A quick key combination on the fob is enough to raise or lower the top. Additionally the SmartTOP increases the range for remote top operations. It is not necessary any more to stand right next to the car and hold down the button. No changes are necessary to the original fobs and receiver system.

“Apart from these main features we were able to integrate a couple of neat bonus features into the module.” says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. The factory provided keyless go system was taken into consideration and you can open or close the top just by tapping the door handle without the need to take the key out of the pocket. All programming is done via the fully integrated clear text setup menu which displays all options and settings in the dash display.
