Norcross, GA, November 22, 2010 — LAN Systems, a leading Atlanta IT Consulting company, CEO Mary Hester was the “Principal for a Day” at Chattahoochee Elementary School in Duluth, Georgia. The program is a joint venture of the Gwinnett County Board of Education and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Its objective is to provide CEO-level business leaders a firsthand, authentic look at the operations of today’s schools and the principals who lead them. Leaders observe the rewards, challenges, and satisfaction that come with being the instructional and managerial leader of a modern public school.

Mary shadowed Mr. Jeff Lee, Principal of Chattahoochee EC, during his normal and very busy schedule. Starting by greeting students and staff, they moved to the media center for the morning television broadcast. A local school council meeting, lunch with the student council, lunch room duty, classroom visits, dismissing the students and a staff meeting completed the day.

“Nothing is more important to our future than maintaining excellent schools that provide the best in math and science education,” said Hester, “and there is no doubt that the students of Chattahoochee EC have a challenging curriculum and a dedicated staff. Liz Hansen, Healthcare Consultant at LAN Systems serves as the Communications Chair for the Georgia Chapter of the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS). She provided an overview of the services and resulting benefits available for medical practices through the Georgia Healthcare Information Technology Regional Extension Center (GA-HITREC).

Plans are underway to provide a group purchasing agreement and technical staff, GA-HITREC is gearing up to support providers with selection, installation and implementation to achieve meaningful use.

Practices already utilizing an EHR will receive technical assistance to include a gap analysis and direction in achieving meaningful use. During the seminar, Ms. Hansen reviewed the current plans and discussed services that will be available to medical practices in Georgia. “This is a wonderful opportunity for practices to get expert assistance with their EHR,” said Ms. Hansen. “We discussed strategy with doctors and practice managers so they can align their EHR plans with the current Healthcare initiatives.”

A Smart Grid primer class was taught by Chuck Newton of Newton-Evans Research Group and Mary Hester of LAN Systems. Topics included what utilities are currently doing to support the grid and a discussion of initiatives to incorporate the latest technology for electric utilities. SCADA, communication, monitoring and database systems will all benefit from the increased priority and awareness of the importance of the power grid. Norcross, GA, September 13, 2010 — Mary Hester, CEO of LAN Systems, a leading Atlanta Computer Support company, will teach the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) course at the Municipal Substation School organized by the ElectriCities of North Carolina. The school provides an opportunity to learn about the operation and basic maintenance of electric substations.

The students from municipal power utilities will participate in the five day school. Topics of study range from safety in electric substations and switchyards to SCADA and transformer testing to maintenance testing of power equipment.
