LAN Systems CEO on Women’s Leadership Forum Panel

Mary Hester CEO of LAN Systems joined the Women’s Leadership Forum Panel on “You take care of everything, how do you take care of yourself?” moderated by Ruchik Tulshyan, Staff Writer at the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Norcross GA (USA), April 19, 2013 — Mary Hester CEO of LAN Systems, a leading IT Service Provider, joined the Women’s Leadership Forum Panel on “You take care of everything, how do you take care of yourself?” moderated by Ruchik Tulshyan, Staff Writer at the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

With this year’s theme of Winning in a New World, some of Atlanta’s top business women shared what it takes to succeed in today’s new business climate at the 15th annual Women’s Leadership Forum. The event is presented by Atlanta Business Chronicle and Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

Beverly Langford, co-director of the Women’s Leadership Forum, said as society rapidly changes and businesses have more a global reach, leaders have to adapt to the change. “You are not on your own little island anymore,” she said. “Because society has changed so much we have to figure out new ways to lead, whether that includes embracing diversity, having a heightened sense of intercultural sensitivity or figuring out how to do business in new ways.”

“It was an honor and pleasure to be on the WLF Panel,” said Hester. “With my fellow panelists, Camille Kesler, President of the Junior League of Atlanta and Sam Lueder, President of Anthill Communications, we gave our formula for balance and answered many probing questions and gave our best advice on how we balance home, family and our business.”

Langford said this forum is one way that female leaders can successfully connect in a high-energy arena for idea sharing. She is especially excited that a portion of the ticket sales, along with a match by Belk Inc., will help support Georgia State University’s Women’s Philanthropy Initiative, which provides scholarships.

Adapting to change:
* Embrace diversity.
* Look at doing business in new ways.
* Be authentic as you build relationships.
* Believe in your abilities.
* Work with and support others.

LAN Systems Named to the Bulldog 100: Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses Class of 2013

LAN Systems was honored on January 26, when the UGA Alumni Association announced the rankings of the 2013 Bulldog 100: Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses at a celebration in Atlanta.

Athens, GA (USA), February 11, 2013 — LAN Systems, based in Norcross, was honored on January 26, when the UGA Alumni Association announced the rankings of the 2013 Bulldog 100: Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses at a celebration in Atlanta.

LAN Systems, helmed by 2006 UGA graduate Mary Hester, ranks as this year’s 84th fastest growing Bulldog business. The firm specializes in IT Solutions and Services for growing businesses.

“This is an incredible honor and a proud moment for all of us at LAN Systems,” said Mary Hester. “We are fortunate to have received many awards over the years, but the Bulldog 100 is our most coveted award to date.”

The Atlanta CPA firm, Warren Averett + GH&I, has annually partnered with the UGA Alumni Association since the inception of the program four years ago to verify the information that was submitted by each nominated company. Warren Averett + GH&I then ranked the companies based on compounded annual growth rate.

Nominations were collected between January and September 2012. To be considered for the program, an organization must have been in business for at least five years, had revenues of $100,000 or more for the calendar year 2009, and be owned or operated by a former UGA student who owns at least 50% of company or be the CEO, President or Managing Partner. The program recognizes the fastest-growing businesses regardless of size by focusing on a three-year growth rate average.

More than 700 nominations were submitted for this year’s program. The class of 2013 includes companies ranging in all sizes and services, including agriculture, aircraft parts manufacturing, insurance, robotics, healthcare, and industrial gases, just to name a few. Several different areas of the country are represented, including companies from as far west as Utah and as far northeast as New Jersey.

UGA alumni and friends celebrated the 2013 Bulldog 100 honorees at a banquet at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta on January 26, 2013. The evening began with a reception, followed by dinner and the awards ceremony. Keynote speaker, A.D. “Pete” Correll, chairman of Atlanta Equity Investors and chairman emeritus of Georgia-Pacific Corporation, offered entertaining examples of how his entire experience at the University, both in and out of the classroom, prepared him for the challenges of leading a global company into the 21st Century. Then members of the Student Alumni Council led attendees through the highlight of the evening—the release of the final rankings and countdown of the 2013 Bulldog 100.

Alumni Association Executive Director Deborah Dietzler said the Bulldog 100 celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of UGA graduates. “The annual celebration is our most well-attended event of the year, as the unveiling of the rankings makes for an exciting evening,” Dietzler said.

Nominations for the 2014 Bulldog program will be accepted until May 31, 2013. For the full listing and rankings of the 2013 honorees, photos of the celebration banquet, and sponsorship information, visit http://www.alumni.uga.edu/b100.
