Indie Folk/Rock Band Cranky George Featuring Actor Dermot Mulroney to Release Latest Video, Single “Misery Road”

“Misery Road”will be released November 18 and is the second single from the band’s debut full length album Fat Lot of Good, available now!

Los Angeles, CA, November 15, 2016 – “Misery Road,” the latest video and single from Los Angeles-based indie folk/rock band Cranky George, will be released on November 18. The song is the second single from the groups debut full-length album ‘Fat Lot of Good,’ following September’s release of the first single “Nighttime.” “Misery Road” features co-founder and actor Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding, current CBS series Pure Genius) on vocals and co-founder of both Cranky George and The Pogues, James Fearnley on accordion.

Watch the Video for “Misery Road” Here (Pass: miseryroad2016)

Cranky George describes “Misery Road” as “a song with a country flair” and says the song wears its “emotions on the sleeve.” The lyrics, sung by Dermot Mulroney, center around “a love affair gone wrong and a man leaving town to find answers” and the music video continues to explore this theme with a narrative following a man struggling with his love life and jumping in his car to escape. All of this action – including the band performing in a junkyard – is “set against a toe-tapping beat, led by a hooky accordion line.”

Recorded over a span of five years at bassist/producer Brad Wood’s Seagrass Studio, Cranky George’s debut full-length album Fat Lot of Good tips music from the bucket that dredges the confluence of the Danube, the Shannon and the Missouri. The album embraces fourteen songs, individually divergent, but which together ply a course from haven, round horn and back to harbor, by means of lullaby, torch song, sea shanty and murder ballad – an album which, with compassion, irony, humor and sometimes horror, tells stories of desire, love, loss, cruelty, ruination and pity. The music on the record, while diverse, features common threads such as Cranky George’s signature folk-inspired instrumentation – including accordion, violin, mandolin, acoustic guitars and ukuleles. Fat Lot of Good is available now via major digital outlets, on CD, and in a 450-copy limited edition double vinyl.

About Cranky George:
Los Angeles based Cranky George has brought together members and musical styles from both sides of the Atlantic to create a unique take on folk-influenced indie rock that is as special and diverse as the members themselves.

James Fearnley, co- founder and accordionist for the London-Irish folk-punk band, The Pogues, and the Mulroney brothers, Kieran and Dermot, siblings from a large, Irish-American family from Alexandria, VA, first came together as neighbors in Hollywood, California. While both of the Mulroney siblings are known for their work on and behind the screen with movies, they are both classically trained musicians; Dermot on the cello, mandolin, and guitar and Kieran on violin, ukulele, and tenor guitar. In 1994, they formed the LA based band, The Low and Sweet Orchestra, which released an acclaimed record, Goodbye to All That, on Interscope Records in 1996. After The Low and Sweet Orchestra split, both Mulroney brothers and Fearnley formed the Cranky George Trio.

During this time, Brad Wood, who has produced records for artist from the likes of The Bangles, Ben Lee, Pete Yorn, and Veruca Salt, was added on bass. To round out the new line up of Cranky George, Sebastian Sheehan Visconti, a sound designer and sound effects editor who notably worked on the television series The Muppets and The Flash, joined on percussion. After five years of work, Cranky George’s full-length debut – Fat Lot of Good – is available now. Dermot Mulroney and other band members are available for interviews about the group.

Vietnam is shaping up as one of the Most Attractive Destinations in Asia

New cruises and resorts bump up luxury travel in Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam, November 03, 2016 – Luxury travel on the rise, Vietnam adds luxury cruises, seaplane, helicopter, hotels and experiential travel. Luxury Travel Ltd. (luxurytravels.asia) promotes world’s most authentic experiences in Vietnam and Southeast Asia countries in the upcoming WTM London from 7 to 9 Nov 2016.

Many British travel experts say Vietnam is now one of the top ten destinations in Asia, with luxury the fastest-growing segment. The beauty of Vietnam is that it continues to evolve without diluting its cultural heritage, achieving that delicate balance between modernity and the past.

Pham Ha, founder and CEO of Luxury Travel Ltd (www.luxurytravels.asia), one of the country’s first luxury travel and tour operators said, “Today’s luxury travelers want to be entertained and stimulated, rather than simply pampered, and Vietnam offers a magical mix of tropical beaches, post-colonial charm, a string of World Heritage Sites, stunning inland scenery, world-renowned cuisine and a home-grown flair for hospitality. Britons look for authentic experiences, Vietnam has all to offer.”

The luxury traveler is being tempted with new cruises in Nha Trang, hotels such as Le Meridien Saigon and the Reverie Hotel Saigon, experiences and tours, such as flying to Halong Bay from Hanoi by sea plane or helicopter service in Danang to Son Dong Cave or Nha Trang. Son Doong Cave in Quang Binh makes adventurious travelers crazy to explore it.

Vietnam’s tourism infrastructure has improved dramatically, a fast-growing list of modern luxury and spa destinations and recently opened golf courses, the launch of luxury yacht and river cruise services ensure stress-free journeys away from the busy roads. More airlines fly to Danang and Nha Trang and other hubs such Hanoi and Saigon, such improvements account for the the country’s recent growth in popularity especially with visa wavers for 6 European countries.

So what are some of Ha’s top hotels and activities in Vietnam? He says his personal favorites are Amano’i Ninh Thuan, near Nha Trang and an overnight cruise on Halong Bay, one of the country’s highlights and his favorite authentic cruising experiences in Nha Trang.

Luxury travelers now have the opportunity to cruise in Nha Trang Bay, not just in Halong Bay and along the Mekong. Being recognized as the pearl of the South Central Coast of Vietnam, Nha Trang has become one of the most famous tourist destinations in Vietnam because of its natural beauty and superb climate with 300 days of sunshine.

According to this travel guru, the all-inclusive Emperor Cruises Bai Tu Long Bay is the most authentic new cruising experience in Vietnam in 2017. Being treated as kings and queens, indulging in services such as music, fine arts, architecture, culture, cuisines, history, and outdoor activities where everything is all included on the overnight 8 all suite cabin.

“The top ten that seem to leave travelers in awe are the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel, La Residence Hue Hotel and Spa, Banyan Tree Lang Co, InterContiental Sun Peninsular Danang, the Nam Hai in Hoi An, the Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay Nha Trang, Princess d’Annam Phan Thiet, Six Senses Con Dao and Amano’i Ninh Thuan,” he said.

Pham Ha and his Luxury Travel team attend the upcoming WTM London to promote the authentic travel experiences in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Discover more at www.luxurytravels.asia

Washington, DC, October 29, 2016 – For two days only, Fathom Gallery will host a multi-media exhibition featuring the work of Washington, DC-based artist Otessa Ghadar. In conjunction with FotoDC, Fathom Gallery presents This Must Be The Place, a photo and video exhibition exploring a story about finding those moments in time, like tears lost in the rain.

The exhibit will take place Tuesday, November 15, 2016 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and a Public Reception: Wednesday, November 16, 2016 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Fathom Gallery, a multi-use event space located in the heart of Logan Circle at 1333 14th Street in Washington, DC.

“Ultimately it is about searching, sometimes failing, but truly celebrating those moments, however fleeting, when we find our lost time, when our echoes reach us again,” says Ghadar. A storyteller at heart — whether through her photography, film, her books, or teaching–Ghadar seeks to capture that fleeting sense of nostalgia, but in the present… and to consider what could be.

As one of the web series medium’s earliest adopters, Ghadar is a true forerunner of digital media. Her MFA thesis at Columbia University’s film school (“Orange Juice in Bishop’s Garden) is now the longest continually running show online. With an international audience in over 145 countries, OJBG has been recognized not only by a loyal global following, but also by industry heavy hitters. OJBG is a six-time Telly Awards Winner, a three-time Webby Awards Official Honoree (considered the “Oscars of New Media”), among others.

Ghadar is also the founder and president of DC-based full-service digital media company: 20/20 Productions. In addition to creating and curating work, her non-profit is currently planning its 5th Annual DC Web and Digital Media Festival (DC Web Fest).

Through insight gained from both “Orange Juice in Bishop’s Garden” (OJBG) and 20/20 Productions, Otessa Ghadar wrote and published the digital media industry’s first textbook, The Wild West of Film. This DIY-guide for creative professionals teaches novices and experts alike how to create, market and manage in the digital age. Otessa is also an Adjunct Professor at American University.

New York, NY, October 27, 2016 – Oleg Frish, revered for his affable and quirky personality as a popular television talk show host and singer/performer will make his debut live performance at The Iridium, one of New York City’s most respected and legendary venues on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. His “Swinging into the Holidays” show will feature a world-class contemporary jazz quartet and repertoire that blends a fusion of classic American Songbook, swing and jazz songs. Show time is 8:30 pm.

Frish has also announced plans for a couple of surprise special guests who will share the stage with his notable quartet, Allen Farnham, piano, David Ephross, bass, Lawrence Feldman, sax and Dwayne Broadnax on drums. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, he has requested for his guests to bring dry and canned goods that will be donated to the New York Food Bank.

Last year he fulfilled a once in a lifetime dream come true with the release of his latest album titled, “Oleg Frish, Duets With My American Idols,” on his own imprint, Time Out Media, (distributed BDG/RED/Sony Red Distribution). The 15-track album featured an introduction by Connie Francis and duets with notable guest artists including; Bobby Rydell, the late Ben E. King, Lainie Kazan, Melissa Manchester, Gary U.S. Bonds, Lou Christie, Peggy March, B.J. Thomas, Tony Orlando, and Chris Montez. He performs several of the songs from the album in his live show.

Frish grew up in the Soviet Union, and after hearing his first American Standard, “Hello Dolly” by Brenda Lee on the radio (at the age of four) he instantly fell in love with the genre. By his early teens, Oleg had memorized over 15,000 contemporary American hit song and artists from The American Songbook that were recorded during what’s considered the “Golden Age of Popular Music “(1920 -1960). He also etched in his mind other noted music genres, like swing, rock n’ roll, jazz, rhythm & blues and learned to sing many of them in over a dozen languages.

Next year he will be celebrating his 25th Anniversary as a television talk show host since moving to New York. In 2011, he began hosting his current show, THE FRIDAY NIGHT, a weekly 30-minute format that features one major celebrity guest (taped with Russian voice over). The show is presently broadcast nationally in every state on RTVi (Russian Television International) via several US cable network affiliates. Over his career, he has interviewed some 2000 music and entertainment personalities including; the late James Brown, B.B. King and Donna Summer, Connie Francis, Engelbert Humperdinck, Paul Anka, Marvin Hamlisch, Petula Clark, Gloria Gaynor, Brenda Lee and Vikki Carr, to name just a few.

Frish has continued to build up his live performance resume. ABOUT PROJECT GRAND SLAM: Project Grand Slam is an acclaimed jazz rock fusion band, led by bassist/leader/composer Robert Miller, combining the power and beat of rock with the complexity and improvisation of jazz, with a jam band sensibility.

In August 2016 the band released its fourth CD, “The Queen’s Carnival”, featuring nine original tunes written by Robert that are rich in texture and diverse in feel, while still staying true to the PGS sound. Plus Robert’s totally reimagined cover of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” (feat. Lucy Woodward on vocals). As Robert says, “The new album is the work that I’ve been building towards my entire career. It truly captures the two musical genres that have informed my composing and playing – rock and jazz. I consider this a breakthrough album for me and the band.”

The album has garnered incredible reviews, including:

“Unquestionably one of the year’s best albums!” (Mac Wire)

“An inspired album…a work of ensemble genius!” (Music Existence)

“A uniquely affecting work…impossibly memorable!” (No Depression)

“A sonic cavalcade of different shades and textures (IndieMunity)

The album’s title song has left the reviewers breathless:

“Party powered happiness!” (Jamsphere)

“Percolates with restless kinetic energy!” (Indie Music Review)

“Crackling hot Latin song craft!” (IndieMunity)

The Official and Live videos of the song have been viewed over 500,000 times to date.

And the band’s reimagined version of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” has been called:

“Astonishing!” (Music Experience)

“Stunning!” (IndieMunity)

“Breathtaking!” (Indie Music Review)

In November 2015 PGS opened for Scott Weiland (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots) at the Gramercy Theater (NYC). In May 2016 the band opened for 4-time Grammy Award nominee Boney James at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (NJ). In July the band was the featured performer at the F.M. Kirby Center For The Performing Arts (PA). In August PGS performed at the Tin Angel (Philadelphia) and at Garcia’s at The Capitol Theater (NY) (following YES). In October the band opened again for Boney James at the Ridgefield Playhouse (CT). In November PGS will open for The Reign of Kindo at The Knitting Factory (Brooklyn, NY), and in December the band will be the featured performer at the Highland Lakes Concert Series (NJ).

Robert originally formed PGS in 2007. The band’s first two celebrated CDs, “Play” (2008) and “Spring Dance” (2012), had three top radio singles – “The Captain Of Her Heart” (feat. Judie Tzuke on vocals) from Play, and “Catch You Later” and the title song from Spring Dance.

The band’s third CD, “Made in New York” (2015), included “New York City Groove” (feat. Kat Robichaud from NBC’s The Voice on vocals), Robert’s love letter to his NYC home, and “Fire” (again featuring Kat Robichaud on vocals), Robert’s reimagined version of the Jimi Hendrix classic. “Fire” was called “Stunning”, “Brilliant”, “Superb”, “Inspiring” and “Fiery” among many other accolades.

In 2009 the band and Robert had a featured role in an episode of the hit NBC-TV series “Lipstick Jungle” starring Brooke Shields and Kim Raver, with five of the band’s tunes featured in the soundtrack.
